I read these books several years ago, in a few days. I was just that captivated by Flicka’s amazing story – plenty of sarcastic humour, drama, angst, secrets, duplicity and suspense, along with several steamy encounters.
ONCE UPON A TIME:
Princess Flicka von Hannover has always been a force unto herself – strong-willed, dynamic, gutsy and determined, but now we also see her vulnerability. We gain a little insight into Dieter’s past, but he remains for the most part, a man of action and few words.
IN SHINING ARMOR:
Dieter scrambles to get Flicka to safety after her newly-minted husband Pierre, revealed his true intentions, along with his true nature, on their wedding night. I enjoyed learning of Flicka’s childhood and teenage years, along with the role Dieter played in her life during that period of time.
IN A FARAWAY LAND:
Who knew Flicka’s princess skills would come in so handy? I loved the push and pull between Flicka and Dieter; she’s one very stubborn princess and he’s one very bossy bodyguard.
AT MIDNIGHT:
Dieter Schwarz’ life has come full circle. He’s risen from the ashes of the family bridges he burnt fifteen years ago. As their situation becomes more perilous, it’s a good thing neither he nor Flicka is without some skill in the game of survival.
HAPPILY EVER AFTER:
I quite enjoyed the cat and mouse chase across Europe as the good guys eluded their pursuers. The final confrontation with Pierre brought a resolution I hadn’t anticipated along with the potential for very interesting consequences – for everyone.

Never mind the assassins who want to kill you for their own notoriety, or how about the guys who date you because if you choose them they will never have to work again. Or the people you hang out with are only there because of what you can do for them. But you decide to date and marry someone who doesn’t understand NO! To him you are now his property.
Then we have your bodyguard who has to try to keep up with you when you ditch your security. Someone who has fallen in love with you but believes he’s bad for you. How many times can he rescue you from the same person. How can he keep you from danger from his past? And most of all, how can he explain all this to his best friend, your older brother?

Remarkable Romantic Suspense
Blair Babylon has been one of favorite authors for years. I can never get enough of her books. Her ‘Royal Bodyguard” series about Princess Flicka von Hannover and her bodyguard and brother’s friend, Dieter Schwarz, is one of my favorite. After reading “Once Upon A Time”, Book 1 in the series, I could not wait for each book to come out as it and subsequent books in the series ended on a cliffhanger. Each of the books is well written with steamy friends to lovers forbidden romance and riveting suspense at every twist and turn. The characters are remarkable and endearing. Wish I could gotten a Box Set when I was reading the series.

I thought I was going to be disappointed when I started reading this boxed set. The first story was too familiar and I realized I had already read it and Flicka was my least favorite character of these stories. Yet I wanted to find out what would develop between she and Detier, they were always so hot for each other. There are four books in the set so all you have to do is turn the page when you reach the cliffhanger ending of each story. The following three books were all new material to me and kept me reading into the early morning hours or until my Kindle fell out of my hands.
What I didn't enjoy was all the information about the royal houses and lineage and who can do what and why. There was too much fluff. Colors for weddings, silk vs polyester, multiple receptions and even two wedding ceremonies for the same two people. All this while characters are marrying the wrong people!
There's lots to enjoy, adventure, betrayal, scams, drama, and developing love. You really won't be able to put it down.

As usual for this author, the overall story and characters were wonderful. My problem was sone really long dragging sections filled with minutiae.
I won’t give spoilers, but I will say that most of what happened between about page 450 to 678 could be skimmed without missing much of importance. I nearly gave up during that stretch.
The other dull bits weren’t nearly as long. If someone in the future made cuts with a critical eye, this would definitely earn a top rating.
