Fake it till you make it!

That’s up-and-coming actress, Cassie Shaw’s mantra. Working on her first big-budget film amongst global stars, she’s having to fully embrace it. But can she pull off her first romantic scene, complete with the perfect kiss?

There’s one teeny-tiny huge problem. She’s never kissed anyone. Who’s going to notice? The director and film crew? The millions of filmgoers who will see the film?

She could do with some help. She didn’t expect it to come from brooding award-winning actor Dylan Thorne. The last time Cassie and Dylan worked together was a total disaster. She messed up on a crucial scene, and he threw a fit about the ensuing rewrites.

Suddenly, Dylan’s an unexpected ally, offering to help Cassie rehearse … and there’s an international rumour that they’re dating.

As Cassie’s life goes completely off-script, her best performance might just be off-screen.

Set in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand, Take Two is a never-been-kissed, fake dating romantic comedy with a sweet hit of chemistry and a happily ever after.

I grew up in the South Island of New Zealand, accustomed to the Southern Alps, the Pacific Ocean and a windy climate. From a young age I wanted to go to France, and I lived there for eleven years, studying French at university and teaching English. I also fell in love and married a Frenchman! I have always loved to write, but it wasn’t until I came back to New Zealand and was feeling homesick for France that I really got into my writing. This eventually led to being a freelance journalist for a few years and then starting my first novel, Alignment.

I’m a romantic and love love stories. Some favourites are Kate Grenville's The Idea of Perfection, How to Fall in Love by Cecilia Ahern and Me Before You, Jojo Moyes. Recently, I’ve developed a taste for thrillers, and I’m a big fan of Gregg Hurwitz’s hero Evan Smoak in Orphan X and The Nowhere Man. I also read a lot of YA books.

Such a delightful story about a naïve actress who's nativity is more personal than professional. Cassie, who is about as down to earth as your best friend, is a female lead in a fantasy trilogy. When she interacts with the actor Dylan (who has been titled as sexiest actor) she's unsure of how to act. The other male co-star Zac, she finds repulsive, making her dread romantic scenes with him yet to be filmed. She is a native New Zealander and happy to be able to go home most weekends to be with her sister. So many complications, past assumptions, and confusing personality traits make the process of character development fascinating and unpredictable.
This story, like the film being made, can't be rushed. And nothing is perfect the very first time, also like the progress filming the movie. But the emotions and tension peeks through giving the reader hope for the ending they want. However, so many differences between characters doesn't bode well for that happy ending.
I love a book like this that tells a story that isn't quite the story you would have told or expected. Roadblocks put up when you expect smooth sailing keeps the momemention building to the very end. And when the book is over the ending is absolutely perfect! The book was sensational, and I look forward to reading it again.

Take Two by Tracy Chollet promises to be a fake dating romantic comedy with a sweet hit of chemistry and a happily ever after set in New Zealand. It delivered. Cassie Shaw is an actress working on a big-budget film with proven stars. The two leading men, however, leave something to be desired. Zac Summer is a Hollywood heart-throb who keeps hitting on her. Dylan Thorne wasn't happy with her acting when they worked together on a film and still doesn't talk to her. But there can be more to a person than meets the eye and Cassie finds that out when she rehearses her scenes with Dylan. I liked the setting of the book, the main characters, and the interest in rescue dogs. This book was different than anything else I've read which made if fun to read. This book has a nice flow and I can recommend it to readers who enjoy romance.

I finished this book in record time, it’s a really sweet romance set on a film set! As someone who loves films, I loved this setting and them being actors! But most of all I loved the NZ location, as someone who lives in Christchurch it was so lovely to read a book set in the South Island!
