This short read is part of a series. Book 1 gives us the backstory on our FMC, Laura, who was going through some significant life changes all at once.
“She was the one that poured her heart and soul into every novel she wrote…”
Midlife, recently single and unemployed. She decides to turn to family to help her out. Buying an abandoned Bed and Breakfast on a whim. She’s now thrown into a workday she knows nothing about.
“It was the first step to becoming an independent woman.”
She hires a handyman, Noah, to help her with renovations. Initially both were short and curt with one another and clashed. As their working relationship grew, they both in turned opened up.
“I've met a lot of people in my life, gone through a lot of things. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that good things come to those who wait."
This is going to be a slow burn. Its was the first step towards a romance, but thus far just establishing a connection. No spice. The first few encounters the dialogue was clunky. But towards the end of this book it flowed more naturally between them.
“She felt a deep sense of longing for both the past and the future.”
Would recommend (based on book 1):

Book 2 picks up shortly after book 1.
Laura meets potential new publishers but. Has a nasty run in with her ex.
“Going backward, going back to the way her life used to be did not appeal to her.”
All it doesn’t make her realize she loves her new mountain life.
“Karma was full circle.”
Going forward with renovations, her and Noah finally share a tender moment. Book two get extra props for not being as slow of a burn that I thought it was going to be.
“I’ve decided to stay here and pursue my passion project. I’m going to open the BnB. No more maybe.”
This book focused mainly on the renovations and how things can go right. She and Noah spent several scenes together and further explored this attraction.
Clean romance no spice.
