In a nation fractured by war, survival demands strength and sacrifice.
Ayden’s world has been torn apart, leaving him with only one to protect Mia and her young sons from the chaos consuming their homeland. As foreign invaders tighten their grip, Ayden’s group flees to Brooks Lake, a breathtaking sanctuary nestled high in the rugged Wyoming mountains. But survival in this unforgiving wilderness comes at a cost.
Battling an early snowstorm, Ayden’s group encounters a local resistance force determined to take back their country. Faced with an impossible choice—stay hidden to safeguard those he loves, or join the fight to reclaim their freedom. Ayden’s courage is put to the ultimate test as his focus on defense suddenly requires an offensive strategy more monstrous than he has ever faced. Failure on this new treacherous trajectory means certain death for not only himself but everyone he loves. The stakes are deadly, and every decision comes with a price.
Resistance is the fifth book in the fast-paced Conquer the Dark series.
THEIR ORDEAL ONLY GETS HARDER AS THEY FINALLY REACH WHAT THEY WERE HOPING TO BE SAFETY
Seventy Seven days after an EMP attack on the U.S., life is anything but easy. The Chinese are waging war on the east coast, the Russians on the west coast, both trying to meet up in the midwest to gain full control of the supply lines and subdue population in order to become little more than slaves to work for the two Communist Parties if they are not just outright butchered. The only thing standing in their way is a few small group of resistance fighters until the U.S. military can come in and help take the country back from the foreign invaders.
Freedom fighters, nothing more than a few survivalists, farmers, cowboys, fathers, mothers, grandparents, and kids are all that stand in the way of the invaders.
A small group of in Wyoming all banding together to not only survive the hardships they now face in the aftermath of the EMP, the foreign forces on U.S. soil, the freezing winter which is starting to show up, but they taking the fight back to the invaders (Russian and Chinese) who have invaded the U.S.
This is a well written tell of what easily has to be one of the worst scenarios one could face. Our heroes in this book and series are well defined and you will be routing for them as they struggle to survive the day, and you'll feel heartbroken when they lose loved ones in the battle of survival.
Quotes: "They had all fought, bled, and survived together. They were family now."
"You don't survive on your own. You survive by building something bigger and stronger."
"Women, when pushed to the brink, could be just as ruthless in protecting their loved ones."
This continues a good series, but I had mixed feelings on this book. It mostly felt like a lot of marking time, though some is likely to set up big action in the next book. I like the spirit of resistance, but the odds seem very dicey for our group. This book was about a 3.5 for me, but the writing is good and I like these characters, so bumped it.
This was another great book in the Conquer the Dark series. Things take a turn as the fighting ramps up. The ending of this story is not a big cliffhanger, but its not the end of the series either. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the next book.
This was a good, post apocalyptic read, as I always find with this writer. Good ideas for the story, interesting situations & a good energy for the plot. I did find the levels of angst a little on the high side for me, but overall a good fun read with lots of twists, turns & paranoia!
The group has dealt with so much, and in this book they deal with so much more. I was a little disappointed in the decisions certain people made and there were consequences. So emotional and tense. On to the next book!
After Aiden's reunion with Mia and the boys, the group is forced to bug out to what they believe would be a safe, remote location. Unfortunately, PLA forces don't allow for a moment of respite and the group links up with a special forces group training civilians guerrilla warfare to take the fight to the enemy. Joined by new friends, they do all they can to disrupt Chinese/Russian supply lines. I'll leave it to you to read bout the "how" of the resistance, just know that Resistance meets the same level of excellence readers expect from Payne and was well worth the wait! 5/5 stars, highly recommended reading!!
What a stoty! Reading this book was like being in a surround sound movie. I could see the fighting, smell the odors, seethe helicopters. I had the shakes, at times. Must read this book.
