Haunted by heartbreak and a past decision in Tucson, Teddy Sanders resolves to no longer turn away from trouble—and in the aftermath of the H7N9 pandemic, trouble is all there is.
With the US in chaos, the government, ensconced in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, enacts Presidential Directive 40, declaring a national emergency. FEMA, now a militarized police force, rules over the remnants of society with an iron fist, establishing civilian work camps and enforcing martial law to maintain control.
In one such camp, Teddy, alongside his new ally, Ein, navigates a minefield of authoritarian brutality. Committed to escape and desperate for freedom, Teddy’s resolve is tested when he uncovers the camp’s chilling secrets. As winter encroaches and the camp’s stability wavers under the strain of dwindling supplies and rising tension among guards and detainees, the stakes skyrocket.
Amidst the growing chaos, will Teddy find a way to free himself and Ein before the camp collapses into violence, or will their hopes for freedom be crushed under the weight of an imploding regime?

I liked this one more than the first one (I'm not a very romantic person and the romance aspect of the first one wasn't really up my alley).
Much as in the first one we get a lot of action and no punches pulled (most of them are headed straight for your proverbial gut).
Teddy is a bit of a one-track mind kind of guy but he has moments of cutting insight which show him as something more than a tough guy and contribute to make the story more than just the usual survival tale.
Book 2 did not disappoint. I like this authors style. Well written without repetition and fluff. Action packed and never a dull moment. Creative and captured my attention all the way thru. On to the next book!
