An outstanding collection of autobiographical stories and short fiction about Australia and Australians, Sunburnt Country was first published in 1966. Since then it has reprinted and has sold over 6,000 copies. Contributors include Elizabeth Jolley, Sally Morgan, TAG Hungerford, AB Facey, Joan London and Gail Jones.
A good collection from a wide range of writers giving glimpses into days past in the big brown land. Some grabbed my attention more than others, but that is expected with a collection like this. The harshness of conditions, of the times and the attitudes. The driving need to survive against a land that in many ways must have appeared determined to destroy the settler or immigrant or youngster heading out into the world. Definitely worth a read. I would recommend the option of the audiobook for this title.
