IV Reuben
Grieved for the loss of his two friends that were swept out to sea, Reuben decides to return to the island of magic and risk his life for the one he loves. The Ian's Realm series is filled with sorcery, wizards, magic, legend, and fantasy adventure, great for young readers middlegrade, young adult and the entire family.
With a passion for a good wholesome story, Gardner dives into the adult and young adult fantasy genres. She is both a best selling author and an award winning illustrator who lives in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Dabbling in screenwriting, she's won screenings and a trophy for some of her film projects.
She loves a tale that ignites imaginations, strengthens friendships, spurs courage and applauds honor. Though she targets her stories for young adults, her books are enjoyed by all ages.
Fourth in the Tale of Four Wizards is Reuben, the tale of the final teen wizard, who chooses his own secret mission as the party falls apart. Reuben’s mysterious goal soon becomes clear, but the rescue he plans will be hard and finding friends in a world of enemies proves treacherous. There’s a nice balance between suspicion and trust in this tale as Reuben follows his quest. But the ending leaves readers longing for more—the story’s come full circle and the evil queen is rising to greater power. Will the wizards save the realm, or will that be left to others in a future, modern time?
Reuben is the only one of these tales that doesn't feel complete enough to standalone. I guess it left more questions unanswered, and it ends on a more obvious cliffhanger. But it's still fun and highly recommended.
The author kindly gave me an ecopy of this books as she knew I'd enjoy it.
For some reason Reuben wanted to return home and not follow through with his mother's desires. He felt it was a mistake to have left in the first place. Would he be able to right the wrongs? What was the secret he held so dearly?
This series was suspenseful and intriguing and I cared about the characters and their outcome. When I came to the last page I was disappointed that there was not more. This collection was written with skill and precision like a beautiful work of art. Each segment hand crafted to perfection.
"He rested his hand on the young wizard's shoulder. There'd be no reason to tell Silvio why he was going back. The boy was too young to understand the turmoil that haunted him, and they barely knew each other anyway. Their eyes met. Reuben gave the boy a nod and a hopeful smile, then picked up his bow and quiver."
