Well, maybe not handled, but de-escalated. Professor Replica isn't vaporizing people, Civil unrest is staying civil for the most part, and giant robots all over the world have shut down, no longer threatening to wipe out humanity.
Life is pretty good for Paradox and his family, but circumstances endlessly conspire to complicate things.
Unplanned magical Bio-teleportation surprises, conniving androids, super-politics, and royal family infighting are only the beginning when a power begins to grow in the West: A power so potent, insidious, and over-educated, it will give the Prince of Manita a run for his money.
I could tell you that the author is a middle class, middle age white dude with a generic wife and a generic pet who lives somewhere vaguely rural...but aren't they all? F%$! that noise! There are Author Bios and then there's Mythos.
Welcome to the Mythos of Macronomicon.
Macronomicon is almost three years old now, hatched on the open-mic writing website Royal Road. The pen name burst from the cocoon of blissful ignorance and deposited his first humble contribution into the world of writing, tired and sticky, yet satisfied. Content in the knowledge his work would be warmly received by thousands of potential fans, and more importantly...friends.
The first comment was, "Can you, I don't know, make the main character less stupid?"
That was sobering.
Macronomicon has no actual weight, because he is a pen name, and while his existence is ephemeral, he does have a presence, often stalking the back-channels of Discord like a novelty vampire, waiting to suck nourishing creativity out of unfortunate* fans.
Macronomicon has a talent for brainstorming and stringing together disparate ideas into a cohesive story. That talent has been strengthened and built upon to form the foundation of his writing career. He once outlined the plot (quality notwithstanding) of an entire book from start to finish in a tiny room with nothing but Cheerios, beef jerky, Pepsi and B.O.**
If you wish to hunt for the elusive Macronomicon, you may find him at Royal Road, where he began, or Patreon, where he works*** at distilling new stories from a raw, chunky slurry of ideas.
*Or fortunate, depending on your point of view. The sucking is consensual. **Quality of B.O. also notwithstanding. *** Working is subjective.
When the author is on, as he is here, the clever imagination of the writing is exceptional. Lots of fun, but pretty heavy under the surface, the characters are interesting and the story moves well.
Just when I thought this would close out, a new plot arc opens in the final chapter. If it's as good as the series has been so far, I look forward to where this goes from here.
Don’t think you know where the narrative is headed. There are so many unexpected turns…you can’t guess which way Paradox is going to go. Just that there’s going to be insanity.
I love this author... but I hate him too... let me explain: the books are awesome! Great world building, character development, excellent editing, the books are novel length... he is just an awesome author and storyteller. But whenever he comes out with a book, I lose a TON of sleep! I am so tired!
Macronomicon does it again. Not only does this book chronicle more of Perry’s rise to power while addressing all the new threats, but it perfectly sets the stage for
*Spoiler*
Solaris gone wrong. The idea of the world’s most powerful hero having dementia and the ability to go supercritical at any moment is absolutely brilliant. So many of the characters in this book are just flawlessly executed. The love triangle manages to be both funny and touching without turning into a pointless harem, and almost every character has interesting arcs. Furthermore, Paradox excellently deals with themes of loneliness and feeling alien even when surrounded by friends as he loses his sanity. This truly is a pinnacle of the LitRPG/Xianxia genres.
10.3/10 (weighted max of 11) Plot: 10/10 - Exceedingly well done. Only a few minor pacing issues that don’t harm the story. Characters: 10.2/10 - Fantastic. All of the characters feel 3D and well made. Even the “heroes” have flaws, with family relations and individual concepts being perfectly balanced. Misc. (Magic/System): 10.3 - Best in class. The balance of magic and system combined with absurd synergy and a focus on sanity provides such a unique experience. All of the powers feel reasonable and in check, with not too much contrivance.
The scope of the book is a bit weird because the plot only really starts half way through. The first half lags, but by the second half, there's a neat twist and some new characters that feel like a good extension of the world building. Less Heather + Natalie, more pushing the bounds of magic with an enemy / friend who we discover half way through.
The magic takes off a lot in #2 and #3 but that ended up being a minus for me as there's basically no limits on what Perry can do, so it's just OP Perry inventing magic out to get out of increasingly tricky situations. I did enjoy the resolution to the main arc in the book, but I can't imagine #4 introduces anything I'm interesting in reading more about.
This is going to be one of those 'leaves a hole in your life when its over' series. I want this to go past book 4, but I can also see where the author has an end point in mind and the power scaling will be moot at some point. The throuple settles in a lot and Heather and Perry's status quo is unlikely to change much at this point, I wish they had a bit more closeness, instead of it all being banter. The primary focus is still going strong, I was had my expectations subverted by certain plot points not going the tropy way I expected.
Lots to read here, if you are reading for an upbeat prog fantasy it's perfect.
Love this series and this book continues to deliver. Perry and company are hilarious, and the level of his chill as murder is attempted against him over and over always entertains. Loved how much ground was covered in this book and appreciated the long read. Excited for the next when it comes!
Eight wild story that continues from beginning and in a way that is confusing actually explains the Confusing nature of time.Travel with ridiculous He's wearing bad timing, ugly shirts.A narcissistic dragon and eight and a cliff hanger ending that totally ticked me off. I can't wait for the next one.
Buy it! I got Unlimited but I bought it anyway. Anything this author writes is worth reading. Organic fast paced non cookie cutter structure. I'm a fan for life Mac, where's my pre-order? Notification of other pen names? Gimme more. Ever scene that robot undead series I've been a fan.
This series has been full of nonstop pleasant surprises. Item never gets old and constantly keeps getting more inventive as it goes. Would recommend it. With all the subpar stuff on kindle these days this really shines through as an example of something that still feels new and exciting
The adventures of Perry have been a lot of fun. The world is in a dangerous dynamic balance, that could end tragically but keeps stumbling along - highly engaging. Perry himself has become a powerhouse, and his new rival will push him to new heights; and then push Perry off those heights to crash spectacularly. Recommended, after the first two.
The second half of this is really good. The first half is a bit slow but kinda fun.
The main problem, because of the main characters power growing exponentially, the next book seems like it'll be like reading Akira as a superhero. Just too powerful for anyone to even slow them for a millisecond.
when mad science meets magic the result is…. funny?
Incredible third instalment to the series. It’s funny, engaging and involves a much improved level of character development that macrinomicons previous series have lacked. Looking forward to the next chapter in Perry’s rise to the heights of SCP royalty.
Still a damn good series. With the power creep you'd think things would get more boring, but the author keeps shaking new interesting challenges out of his sleeve. Tyrannus is a great antagonist and the plot points remain exciting.
A bit disappointed Heather and Nat were on sidelines so much, so I hope in the next book they will play a more prominent role.
Well, at least *among* his best works. Absolutely love this series, the books have been getting better and better, and I'm really looking forward to the next volume.
This was the 3rd book in the series and continues to engaging enough to keep me up late into the me lose sleep. The MC and characters are interesting and the world building is a pretty well fleshed out mix of fantasy, science fiction, and litrpg.
Long, meandering and kind of nonsense this series has wandered so far away from the original premise that I’m not longer convinced it’s good. I think this was my last one, but if you’re still enjoying them, I cannot fault you.
I know it’s a book on super heroes but the the writing is so good, the main Character is so smart, you gotta read carefully to catch the subtle punch lines. A very good book.
Rating: 5/5 Cover: 2/5 Narration: na Favorite Line: na
Great way to bridge the MCs meteoric rise to OPness... giving him a frenemy. Add in a touch of snark, a dash of will/they wont they, and a smidge of cute babies, and you have a true winner.
I’ve found myself unable to put down this series since I picked it up again a few days ago. I’m happy that even 3 books in the humour, the storytelling, the characters etc. didn’t disappoint.
Another fun-filled entry in the series. It's always a blast to see what Paradox and friends are getting into. Crazy and ludicrous....but also fun! I'm looking forward to the next in the series!
This is a fine fantasy post apocalypse adventure novel. It is well written and edited. I especially like the creepy grandmother. I anxiously await the sequel.
I enjoyed reading this book and I recommend this book to anyone who likes LitRPG and progression types of books with an apocalypse type theme with lots of action.
