Naturally Vegan: Delicious Recipes from Around the World That Just Happen to Be Plant-based

Rate this book
Discover artisanal, unprocessed recipes from around the world―that just happen to be plant-based.

To many, the vegan movement is a novelty that might pass us by sooner or later. But long before the advent of veganism, plant-based cooking was already essential to most cultures.

With 100 naturally vegan recipes from around the globe―from fluffy Keralan pancakes to lemony Turkish koftesi―Julius explores classic home-cooking techniques and dishes that champion simple, sustainable ingredients.

Naturally Vegan is as much about balancing flavors as it is about making nutrient-rich meals. It’s a reflection of treading lightly on the Earth, slowing down, and taking pleasure in process. Above all, it’s a celebration of traditional plant-based food and of eating and cooking in tune with nature.

A wonderful gift book ! This book has delicious recipes from around the world many I've never heard of before but they sound tasty. The photos are beautiful the directions easy to follow. A couple of the recipes included are ones I already make and are favorites. I cook a lot of International dishes, and am always looking for new flavor combos.
** the only down side is that it might be hard for some to gather the ingredients mostly exotic spices for some of the recipes. Amazon doe shave them if you can't find a local seller
I will be buying this for several of my friends for the holidays.

The title says it all: vegan is a term that instigates condescending remarks, but it is only natural; eating balanced, nutritious meals that are plant-based. Our contemporary way of life couldn't be farther from the traditions, despite what people think. The author brings together delicious recipes that can be seen as "cooking of the poor". Beautifully illustrated, no animal harm.

Sometimes I think that labelling a cookbook as vegan can do a disservice to the book since non-vegans will pass it by thinking the recipes won't be for them. So I am here to report that the well-written recipes are in fact based on tasty dishes from around the world that are by nature, vegan. That said, experienced vegans aren't likely to find dishes they aren't already familiar with but those looking to eat a more plant-based diet are likely to appreciate what the book brings to the table.

The book is nicely designed, which shouldn't come as a surprise since he comes from the Jamie Oliver universe. There are expertly-styled photos for the majority of recipes but they are a bit muted based on matte paper design choice. I do appreciate the author's ethical reason for going vegan and respect his business acumen in finding a nice niche to supplement the Oliver cookbook empire.

Whether you are vegan or not....if you are interested in eating a more plant based diet, this is a great cookbook to have on hand. Julius Fiedler takes recipes from around the world, which are all plant based, and shows you how easy it is to cook and eat with fresh and easy to obtain ingredients. The introduction talks about how historically regions and peoples did not include animal products in their diets, whether because of religious beliefs or just because of poverty. The recipes are broken down into sections, like Appetizers, Legumes, Grains, Whole Meals and Dips and Condiments, and there is a section that breaks the recipes down by region...ie Germany, China, Turkey and Italy and many more. Recipes include good colour pictures. None of the recipes include ingredients that are hard to find.

We have purchased this cookbook and have already tried a few of the easy to make recipes. Highly recommended!!

some really good recipes

So I am not a vegan but I have made quite a number of vegan meals simply because they just happened to be vegan. I have been trying to add more good vegetables and proteins to my diet. No one needs to develop scurvy in their 40s

This is frankly the most useful cookbook I've gotten in a while. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan but I do try to pick a non-meat option when it's easy ("lazytarian" perhaps?), plus i live in the pacific northwest so it's good to have options in the common occurrence that a vegetarian comes for dinner. I don't care for veggie cooking that just takes a meat recipe and swaps in a replacement. Rarely good outside of, like, stir fry. This book is the alternative and it's way better! Plus, it's full of recipes that I wouldn't have thought to make myself - maybe the Indian stuff I guess but I don't know much about Turkish or African cooking so those are things I never would have thought to look up online.

I've made I think five recipes already from this book and they've all been good, which is a very high hit rate. Approachable recipes with good flavor. The recipes don't shy away from requiring a bit of effort, so don't expect like a 30-min-meals approach or whatever, but if you like cooking then nothing I've seen is too difficult.

A fair number of recipes rely on ingredients that you might not find in a typical Western supermarket (still planning to see if Uwajimaya has Idli flour) but I haven't made that trip yet and even without a special grocery trip there's plenty to do here. Strong recommend even if all you want is a few vegan dishes in your arsenal.

edit: the recipes I've made so far:
Kuru fasulye
Spanakorizo
The homemade Burmese tofu (so good I've made it many times, even the kid loves just eating it straight since it gets so crispy
Pan con tomate (better than it has any right to be)
Chana masala

I’m vegan myself but anybody that’s vegan or not would enjoy the recipes in this book. I love that the recipes are from so many different cultures around the world so you can experience various cuisine. The recipes aren’t overly complex where you’d be intimidated from making the food.

I’ve already tried a few recipes in this book and they’re fantastic so I can’t wait to continue to make more!!!

I'm not vegan but I was so intrigued by the concept of collecting traditional recipes that are plant based I just had to give it a go. My family also enjoys the recipes. They're flavourful and easy to follow.
