Rate this book
In the shadow of a fallen world, law and order are just memories. Only survival remains…

Shannon Grayson had made it through the brutal early days of the EMP apocalypse. Despite suffering a bullet wound in her shoulder, she’s managed to reunite with her daughter, Kim. And she’s found a safe haven at the Wander Motel.

But tensions are rising in her group of survivors. Kim struggles with the aftermath of Dennis’s death and the brutal trials she’s been forced to endure. She needs to be at her best to survive and lead in this harsh world, but her past haunts her every step.

Shannon, Kim, and their newfound community aren’t the only people fighting to survive in the post-EMP world. Andre, Shannon’s ruthless ex-husband, is out of prison. He’s rebuilding his motorcycle gang. And he’s coming for Shannon and Kim.

Both mother and daughter have paid a heavy price for survival. They need time to heal, physically and mentally. But with Andre closing in, the Wander Motel is no longer a refuge—it’s a trap.

Grace Hamilton

Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.

Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"

It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.

MAD MAX ON STEROIDS

Shannon, Bill, Kim, Lee, Mutt, and The Black Rats take to the road to find a safe place to survive and to avoid the threat of Andre and his ruthless thugs who are set out for vengeance and destruction leaving death on their wake. They run into a community that even being leery of them offer somewhat of a sanctury from they chaos in a world full of nothing else.

Final Days: A Post-Apocalyptic Thriller Filled With Fascinating Characters & Prepper Info (After the End Book 3) by Grace Hamilton is very well written, intriguing, suspenseful, and action-packed thriller that will keep you interested throughout the all three books and you will find yourself routing for Shannon, Bill, Kim, Mutt, and Lee. You'll find yourself routing for the good guys, touched at the loss of some, and cheering when the bad guys are taken out of the storyline for good. You'll find yourself glued to the pages to see what is coming next. Believe me, the end will blow your mind in a good way.
I have truly enjoyed reading this book and the other two previous books in this series and hope you will also.

Final Days is Grace Hamilton's third book in the After the End series. It picks up shortly after Fractured Days left off. Final Days was just as good, if not better, than Fractured Days and Trapped Days. The moment I began to read either book, I was pulled into its world as the world around me disappeared.

Shannon and her daughter Kim have finally found each other after a long hard journey. They have found a safe place to hold up in. They have made a few friends along the way. Each one is helping out and doing what they can to survive.

Andre, Shannon’s ex-husband is still hot on their tail. Andre blames her for having to go to prison and plans to make her pay for testifying against him. Shannon and Kim have been through a lot since the EMP hit. Everything they have been through and witnessed has made them stronger and tougher in more ways than one.

I have loved reading all three books in the After the End series. I can’t wait to see what Grace Hamilton has waiting for us in the book. I enjoyed reading Final Days so much that I highly recommend it to all dystopian and post-apocalyptic fans. Grab a copy of Final Days today!

Final days
This third book was as well written as the first two. Again, we eagerly follow the heroic yet flawed characters and cheer them on as they work their way through their injuries, their grief, their fights to survive, their kindness, their planning, their further grief and their triumphs. Hamilton shows us the positives of working together, gaining trust, sharing what we have, never giving up and winning even when it seems unlikely. The ending gave me hope for maybe more about these characters.

Grace Hamilton does it again with Final Days! Reading it takes you through the terror, pain, loss, anger and the strength of family as the wonderful characters struggle to survive. I think Andre would be the most evil of those characters, or any really. For others, I cried more than once. Apart from all of that I loved the book from start to finish.

The book cover fits well with the rest of the series so far. The cover for this book really fits a scene a devastation from within the book very well.

The book picks up right after bk2 Fractured Days left off. The main characters, Shannon/Sarah, her recently violently widowed Aunt Carol and recently reunited daughter Kim are all still reeling from the ambush, fire attack at the scrapyard and the way Andre killed Uncle Bruno. Though all three women are strong and stoic in their approach to their loss they are all feeling the loss deeply. However as is a theme that reoccurs throughout the book, losses happen, you have to take charge of the situation at hand and grieve those losses later when you have time. Bill has taken the Lee under his wing trying to protect the young man and protect him somewhat from the hostility of the Black Rats.

Andre is as devious as ever and has a new sidekick he can fully control called Austin. Andre knows he has struck the Black Rats deeply in killing their leader but he will not be happy until he has exacted his revenge on Shannon/Sarah and he will use anyone and everyone she cares about to get to her. Andre is building his own group or Black Rats gang made up of Black Rats disgruntled by Shannon/Sarahs return and some of the most violent, sadistic men he met whilst in prison. Shannon, Aunt Carol and the original Black Rats would perhaps stand a fair chance against their own like but how can they predict what violent escapee convicts will do?

The way Shannon’s birthday is celebrated in the book is really poignant as it seems to mark a point where the Black Rats fully accept her back in the gang. It also shows the rekindled closeness and mother/daughter relationship between Shannon/Kim, the fact Kim has taken the time and trouble to source ingredients for a cake of sorts and they throw a party for the whole gang to enjoy.
After a lot of discussion with not many viable options Aunt Carol decides the remainder of her faction of the Black Rats should head to the nearest Black Rats group in Tupelo, sure that their leader Toad will give them shelter and help against Andre.
After the horrors awaiting them in Tupelo, Aunt Carol, only just escape with their lives, with the help of some crazy truck driving on Shannon’s part. Lee, though still somewhat of an outcast other than to Bill, Kim & Shannon/Sarah & still regretting his earlier actions proves himself as being worthy of being a “Black Rat” by saving Aunt Carol, Lee is accepted as a prospect in the Black Rats gang, he will however have to do grunt work and continue to earn his spot. The group see mindless destruction and devastation everywhere they look and have no real idea where they are heading until they come across Rebecca Holden, her car has broken down whilst she was searching for heart medication for her father Rufus. They offer Rebecca a lift back to Watchdog a settlement of people that have been run out of New Wren by men on the way to joining Andre and his group. The people in Watchdog are in need of help and the Black Rats follow the lead of Aunt Carol, Shannon, Bill and Kim in trading skills. The community at Watchdog accept the group with the exception of the Reverend who spouts bible verses and warns they are the enemy. Shannon, Kim etc decide to tell the residents of Watchdog the whole truth about who they are and who is chasing them. There is a vote and the vast majority of Watchdog vote to make a stand with Shannon as Andre and his gang are coming and will wreck anything in their path anyway so they decide to go down fighting. Andre is prepared to fight dirty and captures a beloved member of the group, whom Shannon, Kim etc are close to. Andre chooses to send back a tortured dead body with a message he wants to speak to Shannon, only she can end all this killing. Those in Watchdog make plans, they are betrayed by a Watchdog resident but luckily on a hunch from Kim realise in time to adapt their plans and create back ups to them. Though its still a risky move when Shannon decides to use herself as bait to draw Andre out and end this war he has created once and for all. One way or another it will end, either Andre will die or she will!!!

I loved the existing characters, the growing friendship between Kim and Lee and their ending…..or could it be their beginning? I’ll be interested to find out! I found the scene where they snuck off to their bunks to collect their back packs to sneak off really moving, the fact someone, maybe Aunt Carol had pre-empted them sneaking off and had left items for them including bike keys and a Black Rats jacket for Lee! Finally, a fully accepted part of the gang. Then the specially made seat contraption for the bike so that mutt could also ride along! I loved it!
It was a shame to lose much loved characters old and new but that is the nature of the world we live in and certainly the world these characters are trying to form an existence in! I would still love more from the characters that survived even if the future books end up more centred on Kim and Lee. I adored the poignancy of them stopping to help someone stranded and it being a character we already knew from the very first book. Maybe they could be the central characters of more books in this series or a spin off.
Even though Austin was, shall we say “on the wrong side” and riding with Andre I did feel kind of sorry for him, he didn’t have the best start in life, and once he felt a little power and prestige decided he would do anything to hold onto it. Then when he came to his senses and didn’t want to do what was asked of him, he was in too deep to get out. In different circumstances I think perhaps Austin and Lee could have been friends. If only Austin had followed Aunt Carol and the original Black Rats rather than falling for the promises of Andre and the free booze, drug and women.
So characters I loved were, Shannon, Kim, Aunt Carol, Bill, Lee and Dennis even though Dennis is not physically in this book, the things he taught Kim and love he showed both Kim and Shannon shine through in their actions. I adored the references to Kim’s “Dennis radar” the way things he had taught her saved her on many occasions.
Initially suspicious of Rebecca Holden and her father Rufus, they grew on me.
Characters I thoroughly enjoyed strongly disliking/hating were Andre, his convict followers, and the Reverend.

I really enjoyed the whole book, it started off slowly with the both groups planning what to do and where to go phase but then the pace picked up and really kept you hooked reading to the very end. The final confrontation between Andre and Shannon was very edge of your seat stuff! I liked how well set out the book was with chapters the different points of view of Kim, Shannon/Sarah, Austin, Andre and Austin & Andre. Definitely a book/series I recommend reading!

This is book three and the finale of the After the End series, as Shannon Grayson (Sarah Nakamura) was finally reunited with her daughter Kim at the home of the Black Rats MC base at the scrapyard in Memphis, only for her ex-husband, Andre Atkinson, to come and try to kill them all. He had the help of a young man, Lee, but when he saw what Andre was truly up to, he stayed with the bikers rather than Andre. He wasn’t quite trusted by Carol, the head of the MC club now her husband Brun had been killed by Andre, but Bill Wheeler, who had been with Shannon from the start of the fall locked in a superstore, takes Lee under his umbrella. Kim has found it impossible to tell her mum about what happened to Dennis, the WITSEC Marshall, who had been in charge of her mother’s case and had promised to protect Kim. He sacrificed so much to ensure Kim could get back to her mum, but none of them could have guessed that Andre would get out of his maximum-security prison! Andre knows exactly where Sarah and Kim would head, once this disaster hits, as their only other family was her Aunt Carol and Uncle Bruno. Shannon and Kim just never knew how close he was! Shannon knows how badly he wants to get revenge on her and blames herself for bringing trouble to her Aunt Carol, especially after the remaining bikers have to leave their home and find temporary refuge in a motel. Carol wonders if they should find allies from a nearby chapter of the Black Rats, as Shannon well knows that Andre will be building an army to come and wipe them all out!

Andre has found a weak biker, Austin, who ran from the scrapyard and clearly isn’t doing well on his own, without his drugs and alcohol to feed his addictions, nor the strength to get them for himself. Andre promises him all of this and more, labelling him as his second, in a new chapter of the Black Rats that he is starting. He spread a message in prison, for those with a similar mind as his, to come and join his gang to take over the city, if not even further afield. Kim is getting antsy and wants to keep on moving after the attack on the scrapyard, rather than stick in one place. Andre has managed to send Austin out to get to Carol’s nearest ally and he made an example of the people there who were against him and Andre. Carol and the rest of her group travel there and come under attack, only just managing to get away from Austin and a large number of convicts, finding a new safe haven in a small, deserted town, where the survivors of a small town, New Wren have settled recently. They came under attack by the convicts heading to join Andre and their small town was destroyed! The survivors headed out to an old sawmill settlement, long deserted, which they have named Watchdog, but they are struggling for supplies. They are told all this by one of the town folks, Rebecca, who offers them a chance to come and join them, in thanks for helping her get back there safely.

Their arrival isn’t treated well by all the survivors, especially their evangelical and outspoken pastor, who likes a bit of a drink! The pastor tries to turn the townsfolk against the newcomers but when Kim suggests sharing their food supplies and Shannon explains what help they can give the people with, which makes many realise they are nothing like those that drove them out of their hometown! Shannon does however warn that there is probably trouble following them, from Andre. The last resident of the sawmill town was a total prepper, believing in a world ending disaster and there are plenty of rumours about stashes he made there. None have ever been found, so it could be more myth than reality. Carol, Shannon, Kim, Bill, Lee and the rest of their MC gang, must work with the survivors of New Wren, to come up with a plan to protect themselves against an attack by Andre and his gang of convicts. They know he will definitely come for Shannon, and in some part for Kim, as he is obsessed with getting his revenge against the woman he holds responsible for him ending up in prison! A key betrayal will leave the people at Watchdog at a huge disadvantage, but they are determined to fight back as well as they can against the cruel people Andre has collected to help him get his vengeance! A surprising twist gives them a chance, but plans have to change last minute, and it will be up to Shannon to call Andre out and rile him up into a frenzy, where he won’t be thinking right, and time for her friends to come to her aid. A fitting ending and nice to see Lee redeeming himself and gaining more acceptance, even when he goes through a hard time losing someone he looked up to. A hard hitting finale, that comes down to the wire and brings shocks and heartache, as survivors try to make their way in this changed world.

I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This is # 3 in Grace’s After the End series. For the most part series like these tend to get repetitive or nowhere near as interesting as the first one or two, but not this series!

Final Days picks up where Fractured Days left off with the story of Shannon, Kim and Andre. The same characters are there, along with a surprise character from book #1, and a few new ones come along. Final Days finds Shannon, her family and motorcycle gang leaving the Memphis area and running into more trouble generated by her ex Andre.

This would be a hard book to just pick up and read without reading the previous two in the series. This installment of the story wraps up a few story lines, but leaves new tendrils opening for possible sequels.

Definitely recommend this book, series and anything by this author!

I was given this book for free and am now leaving my voluntary and honest review of the book.

The story follows a young protagonist who finds themselves at a crossroads in life. Living in a small village, they are faced with the harsh realities of their environment, including poverty and social injustice. The protagonist’s journey begins when they encounter a mysterious thief who becomes an unlikely mentor. This thief, although initially seen as an enemy due to their criminal activities, teaches the protagonist valuable lessons about survival, cunning, and the importance of making choices that define one’s character.

As the plot unfolds, the protagonist grapples with moral dilemmas that challenge their understanding of right and wrong. They must navigate complex relationships with friends and foes alike while uncovering secrets about their own past and identity. The narrative is rich with vivid descriptions of medieval life, from bustling market scenes to quiet moments of reflection in nature.

This has quickly become one of my favorite post-apocalyptic reads. Grace Hamilton has a way of writing that makes this genre incredibly accessible—even for someone like me who doesn’t usually reach for it. The characters are all compelling and serve a real purpose in the story, which never slows down for a second. It’s fast-paced and just as gripping as the rest of the series.

This is definitely not a standalone—you absolutely need to read the first two books to fully understand what’s going on here. This installment leans more heavily into the motorcycle club angle now that the characters are back with their crew, and I loved seeing them work together in that new dynamic.

If you’ve been enjoying the series so far, you obviously need to read this one too. I also highly recommend the audiobook—it’s really well done. Even with a large cast and shifting POVs, it’s always clear who you’re following, which makes for a smooth and immersive listen.

Grace Hamilton is a prolific author of "after the world as we know it" series. She has many outstanding books to her credit. FINAL DAYS is book #3 in the After The End series. Picking up right after the end of book #2, this group of survivors continues to grow stronger through the losses and pain. Each will learn they are stronger than they thought as they face the hostile groups who kill for their own survival. These books are thrillers in the apocalypse genre, building tension with each new chapter until the violence explodes and it's a shock who will survive.

Grace Hamilton is a top notch author. She has written many, many apocalypse survival books and they are all complete stories without copying or repeating characters or communities. I've read many of them and am now qualified to survive an apocalypse should one find my neighborhood.

Final Days is the conclusion to this series which focused on Shannon, her daughter Kim, her aunt Carol, her good friend Bill, and Lee a teenager befriended by the group. Shannon and her family and friends leave Memphis and travel by chance to a little out of the way town of Watchdog once they learn of the presence of Andre, her criminal ex-husband, in Memphis with revenge on his mind. This well written and exciting book has well developed characters, unexpected plot twists, violence, and past domestic abuse.

This is the final book of the series. I AM SO MAD ABOUT BILL. I MEAN REALLY MAD. AND UPSET. I literally sat in the couch crying. I couldn’t keep reading I was so upset! I just don’t understand! Why???!!! He was literally the best character in the book from a good person standpoint.

I wasn’t surprised by the ending giving how Kim kept pushing for the nomadic lifestyle for the club. Also not surprised that Lee went with her.

As I was reading the Epilogue I thought - no way! Rick from the supercenter? Like from the first book?! I would love to have another book written that talks about Kim, Lee, Rick, and the dog’s adventures.

This is the third book in this saga and answers questions I had. I read part 2 and kept wondering what happened to Shannon and Kim? Things were still up in the air after part 1.
Well part 3 answered my questions. There’s a lot going on in this part. We’ve got new people; some good, some bad. A lot of action. Some of it made me sad; some made me cheer.
I don’t know if a book 4 is planned but I’ll be watching. In the meantime, I do have another series by this author to read.

This is the final book in Grace Hamilton's "Final Days." There is so much excitement going on and planning to outsmart the enemy that you have to keep reading to see if they get away from Andre. Final Days is book three of the After the End series and it picks up where book two Fractured Days left off. You should read this action packed, post apocalyptic, it could happen, page turning read. Just like books one and two, there is a lot going on, but it makes this a fantastic read. After the End is one of my favorite series by this author and I can't wait to read the next book by this talented author. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

The Series of 3

Grace Hamilton can write a book! This series was different from the usual incident driven that you usually find in the genre. Don’t misunderstand. There was plenty of story. But this one was more psychological aspects of the characters. Parts of the backstory were a bit implausible. But I found it refreshing to think how the characters were trying to make sense of present while still dealing with their past.

his was a thrill ride of a series as usual and the author does a bang up job getting everyone banged up with the “end of the world” as we know it. Lots of action and enjoyable characters to root for and bad guys aplenty to hiss at. Great reads for the series as a whole and a fabulous finish! This book is full of intrigue, suspenseful, and action-packed. Great characters in Shannon, Bill, Kim, Mutt, and Lee., you will not be surprised that you will find yourself routing for them. Feeling their loss and lets say shouting for joy when the bad guys get want is coming to them.
