The book offers a chilling look into the dark world of deception, crime and murder in the age of social media. From catfishing unsuspecting victims to orchestrating a brutal murder, Priya's transformation from an innocent student to a cold-blooded killer is both terrifying and gripping.
Bhattacharyya paints a vivid picture of how social media once a platform for connection can be used as a tool for exploitation and manipulation. The book’s strength lies in its detailed exploration of how Priya manipulated men and engaged in high-stakes deceit leading to the gruesome murder of Dushyant Sharma. The psychological motivations behind each character’s choices- driven by greed, desperation and a hunger for power are sharply portrayed.
The narrative style is direct and journalistic, making it an accessible yet deeply disturbing account of a real-life crime that shocked the nation. Bhattacharyya does an excellent job of weaving in the investigation process and how law enforcement unraveled the case. A spine-chilling murder case that had shock the nation. The book is a vivid description of how Priya Seth used social media to extort money from the innocents to fulfill her desire of living a lavish life. How the youths like Dushyant are falling in grips of glamorous social media sites and got trapped so easily, even got murdered for a crime they had not committed. A well-researched book with intelligent narrative. Author Anirban effortlessly showcased the psyche of the murderers and their greed for earning money. A must read.
A word of caution for the first-time readers of this book: While this book sparkles in numerous areas, you are bound to find its tremendously explicit images and piercing subject matter very very disconcerting. Furthermore, the emphasis on the crime’s sensational features might outshine profounder discussions of deterrent measures or systemic reforms. The book centers on the tragic murder of a young woman in Jaipur, whose encounter with a man she met on Tinder spiraled into a horrifying crime. Bhattacharyya reconstructs the case from various angles, delving into the lives of the victim, the perpetrator, and the investigators. The story goes beyond the sensational headlines, offering readers a nuanced understanding of the events leading up to the crime and the aftermath that followed. Bhattacharyya, known for his work as a true crime author and television producer, brings his expertise to the fore. The narrative is well-paced, blending journalistic rigor with dramatic flair. The use of firsthand accounts, police reports, and interviews adds credibility and depth to the storytelling. Bhattacharyya’s ability to humanize the characters, while maintaining an objective tone, ensures that readers remain invested in the story without feeling overwhelmed by its darker elements. One of the book’s strong suit is its investigation of broader leitmotifs, such as the anonymity and ruse enabled by dating apps, the erosion of faith in digital exchanges, and the societal burdens faced by young adults in urban India. Bhattacharyya also touches on the trials of law enforcement in tackling cyber-enabled crimes, as well as the psychological substructures of the individuals involved in the case. The greatest strength of this tome is that it offers a comprehensive view of the case, leaving no stone unturned. Bhattacharyya’s ability to interlace multifaceted facts into a coherent story is praiseworthy. Secondly, beyond the crime itself, the book provides thought-provoking insights into the cultural and technological shifts shaping modern relationships. To conclude, we can say that this book is a convincing and deterrent tale that underlines the dangers and authenticities of circumnavigating relationships in the digital age. Anirban Bhattacharyya’s dexterous storytelling and intense intuition makes this book a must-read for anybody fascinated by true crime, psychology, or the societal influence of technology. This book serves as both a fascinating account of a disastrous event and a sobering reminder of the hidden dangers prowling in the digital dominion.
Every second day, we get to hear of someone falling for online fraud. The person should consider himself lucky for only losing money. Once you read this book, you will know how much a criminal mind can stoop and the victim can lose a lot more than money… his life, too.
The Jaipur Tinder Murder case shocked the daylights of the public, especially given the circumstances that led to the death of Dushyant Sharma.
In 2018, Dushyant, who had been using a fake identity in the virtual dating world, fell prey to the scheming Priya Seth. While Priya was a veteran who used her charms to scam unsuspecting men for a long time, Dushyant was naïve and his libido overpowered grey matter in every aspect. He realised his folly only too late. Priya and her accomplices Dikshant and Lakshya had plotted to kidnap Dushyant in hopes of getting a hefty ransom. However, it all fell through when they realised Dushyant had faked it all. He didn’t have the money. Blinded by greed and fear, they killed him.
However, in the process of evading arrest or getting spotted by the police, they made innumerable mistakes and were soon caught.
While the case was a direct one, the author takes us through the complete investigation process that followed after the FIR was lodged when Dushyant first disappeared. It’s overwhelming and educative to learn about how criminals can escape using the loopholes in the law and this time the police were extra careful. Very often media trials bling judgements in favour of the criminals. However, this wasn’t the case here. The case that shook the country was taken to its logical end.
There is also a lot of discussion on the mental state of the perps and the victim. Its interesting to understand the varying dynamics of the same and how they impacted each other.
The author has raised pertinent points on the dangers of the virtual world where it doesn’t hurt to be careful. The book also throws light on several cases that were a precedent to the current one. I applaud the author for the detailed research and thank him for serving crucial information on a platter to the readers.
Swipe Right to Kill is more than just a retelling of a crime case—it’s a gripping, multi-layered narrative that takes you deep into one of Rajasthan’s most sensational incidents: the infamous Tinder case.
While many of us had heard snippets of the story through the media, reading it from both the criminal’s and the police’s perspectives brought a whole new dimension. It makes you reflect on how ordinary people—those who appear completely normal on the outside—can be hiding terrifying secrets.
The book explores how greed for more—more money, more attention, more thrill—can blind a person so badly that they lose all sense of reality and morality. He had everything: a stable job, a child, a family that believed in him. But his desire to live a double life eventually led him down a dark path. Pretending to be someone else online, and thinking he could get away with it—this illusion shattered with just one wrong move.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the book is the way it shows the police investigation. The speed at which the authorities acted, their dedication, and the tactics they used to unravel the truth were impressive. It’s a reminder that no matter how smart or careful a criminal thinks they are, justice has a way of catching up—sometimes because of their own foolish mistakes.
The writing is crisp and engaging. You’ll find yourself flipping through pages, eager to know what happens next—even if you already know the broad outline of the case. The suspense, the psychology, and the raw human emotions are all captured beautifully.
If you're a fan of real crime stories or hooked on shows like Crime Patrol, this book will definitely keep you glued till the last page. It’s disturbing, thought-provoking, and absolutely worth reading.

This case shocked us when it happened. The criminal Priya Seth came across as a cold blooded killer who had no regrets or remorse after committing a murder. Anirban Bhattacharyya who has earlier written a fabulous book on serial killers of India once again delivers a knockout punch with this one. First of all a super name and a super cover! Next, the author goes into the minds of mastermind priya Seth and shows us how her conniving brain ticks and how she thinks and manipulates herself. We also get a glimpse of the mind of Dushyant the victim. The story is grippingly told in a fast paced narrative cutting across the past that influences their present and how the present affects their future! It is a cautionary tale of greed, ambition, lust and the sociopath Priya Seth. if you like mindhunter and other netflix true crime docus - you will love this one!! I read it in one sitting - I could not put the book down.
I felt that the author was writing with his own judgment about the incident, rather than maintaining a neutral tone and presenting the real events as they happened. Throughout the book, he frequently spoke about his own talent in creating shows he has worked on or commented on what he would have done in that situation.
It's great book, based on TRUE story. There are no fictional things added, or trying to make something less impacted, it's written in the right way possible.
