The worst part of this book is claiming that John Wexler discovered the 1969-S DDO cent. He did not. The person who discovered the 1969-S DDO was Michael Tremonti. ref. PCGS website Claims are made about several mint workers describing error coins is not provable without names and dates.
The authors claim of being a renowned expert does not show in this book filled with inaccuracies and unfounded stories
The book is a narrative about error coins. This type of writing is usually reserved for storybooks.
Calling the 2000 Sacagawea dollar mule error legendary is not based on any credible information. There are many multiple errors that have been encapsulated by PCGS and NGC, some more valuable.
The author states that error coins have “artistry or craftsmanship.” This makes no sense.
The author states that the 1974-D aluminum mintage is a rarity. Only seven samples were minted, and all seven were destroyed, so there is no rarity.
The author proclaims the Kansas State “humpbacked” quarter is historical and notable. This is a curious choice since it is obscure and there are other state quarters more notable, like the MN extra tree.
This is not an error coin guidebook. It is a poor representation of error coins with a few randomly selected error cons. The selection of error coins has no order, no structure, and serves no real purpose except to fill pages in a book. No photos were offered.
There is a section for “Historical and minting circumstances leading to errors.” Listed is “the decimalization of British currency" and “the introduction of the Euro.” How does this fit with the title “US Error Coin Guide?”
This book is well written and easy to understand. It teaches you how coin errors happen and helps you to identify them. It has in-depth information on the errors and teaches you how to compare them. It has tips on how to start collecting or even on selling. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about coin errors.
