“In every moment, you have the power to choose love or fear.”
For so many years, Deanni felt she had been robbed of that choice. After enduring an experience that could break even the strongest individual, she feared being hurt the same way twice. Closing herself off from the possibility of love seemed like the only option, so she resigned to a life alone. As the years passed, Deanni grew content with focusing on her family and ever-growing career until she met him. A perfect job offer in paradise brought Cairo King into Deanni’s life. From the moment she laid eyes on him, she couldn’t get him off her mind. Being near him every day drove her crazy… in more ways than one. Cairo was handsome, intelligent, and rude. He was also endearing and challenged everything Deanni had accepted as truth about her love life. His presence inspired her to confront her fears and try love again, but she’d soon learn that she wasn’t the only one afraid to love again.
Cairo was on top of the world until an injury and a disloyal woman shattered life as he knew it. Angry at the world because of the hand he’d been dealt, Cairo decided women couldn’t be trusted. So why was his personal chef stirring feelings inside him he thought were dead? Deanni was beautiful, sweet, and selfless, but if she betrayed Cairo like the last woman, he knew he wouldn’t survive it. Everything about her felt right, but were those feelings enough to let his guard down–again? Only time will tell…
First read by this author, and what an experience! Two people scarred and filled with trauma, put in the same place for an undetermined amount of time is a recipe for disaster, right? Well, ummm, maybe?
Cairo, a successful architect, was living the good life until an injury at the work site leaves his body and his hopes for the immediate future shattered. Already depressed and angry about the hand he was dealt, he learns that his wife has committed the ultimate betrayal. He is done with women, as they cannot be trusted. He temporarily moves to Hawaii for some r&r, to continue healing with therapy, and come to terms with the chaos his life has become. He is uninspired and is unable to create, causing a rift between he and his business partner. He’s also hit a plateau with therapy, and wonders if he will ever get his strength back to walk. He just wants to be left alone, but Momma Chey starts to meddle. 👀
Deanni, a sweet young woman, who has experienced unimaginable trauma at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, buries her pain in the past and moves on. Although she has become a great chef, not dealing with her feelings is causing her living in fear. Not allowing people to get too close to her, and afraid of relationships especially with men. When her brother offers her an opportunity to be a private in-home chef for his best friend, who is recovering from an accident, she is leery. But she pushes fear to the side and accepts the job.
Cairo and Deanni’s meeting was nothing less than a disaster. Cairo was rude and mean as hell to Deanni and basically told her to get out of his house. Deanni is incensed at this man’s behavior when HE is the one who hired HER. 😤 The attraction is apparent between the two, but with all the baggage they each have how will this work out? But God! ❤ When Cairo pushed his anger to the side and spoke to Deanni like he had some sense, he learned that she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, as she began to chip away at his black heart. Deanni was feeling things she had never felt before, without fear or apprehension and she wondered why? She learned that Cairo was smart, and charismatic when he wasn’t being rude, and she was feeling him big time. Their journey to love was beautiful as Cairo was so patient, understanding, and supportive of Deanni once he learned her story. It was heartbreaking by the way her story! 💔 That damn Jaden needed to be under the jail in pieces, you hear me? Ughhh….. 🤬
Now this read was not without some drama, and haters lurking, trying to cause harm. But the love these two shared, and the bond they formed could not be broken on some bull ish! Really enjoyed this and will be diving into her catalog. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
His Sweetest Escape is my favorite book by Jaimsss P. It is healing and swoon-worthy, and the characters are lovable. I love it when the characters overcome adversities and obstacles. It warms my heart, and Ani and Ro deserve all the love and happiness.
Deanni's brother, Deion, proposes an opportunity for her to work as a private chef for his friend and business partner, Cairo, in Hawaii. The deal was too good to pass up and was just what Deanni and Cairo needed. When they first meet, Cairo is grumpy and mean towards Deanni, but it is a front. Initially, there is an instant physical attraction on both sides, but the stories within are what sealed the emotional connection.
Both characters battled dark pasts. Cairo sustained an injury at work that left him needing physical therapy and needing to walk with a cane. On top of that, he is going through a divorce. Deanni is an assault survivor and is content with being a single chef and content creator. She is understandably guarded; her trust is nonexistent. The author handled both characters’ issues with gentleness but was realistic and detailed enough to make me feel their pain.
Aside from their issues, Cairo and Deanni healed each other in ways that only they could. It is beautiful and captivating to witness. I was in awe of how Cairo spoke words of affirmation into Deanni and helped her see her beauty. I also loved that they explored their love languages and were able to build on them. It just shows that you have to meet people where they are and help them to expound on their strengths.
While the story is romantic, there is so much drama. I wanted to lay hands on Tina and Faye for the chaos they caused. It was the audacity for me!! I am glad that Cairo and Deanni were able to overcome those situations. Their love was pure and mesmerizing. Cairo is one of my favorite book baes. Amazing job on this story!!
This is a slow burn, and I loved it. I loved Cairo and Deanni. This was a sweet read with some drama mixed in. Cairo's affection for Deanni was evident from the start. Deanni has trauma, so it was nice seeing Cairo bring those walls down. If you enjoy a true slow burn, then you'll enjoy this one.
Imagine going through life for the last 4 years your pouring everything into work and your family due to a traumatic experience that literally was haunting you. Only for your brother to land you your dream job in paradise. When you get the job you’re literally taking it all in and living for the 2nd time in a long time away from all of the madness. Your employer hides from you and really your there under false pretenses. With only three days on the job your already bring a piece of sunshine and comfort without trying. Then you have said employer who literally can’t get you out of their head since they seen you further more why they have yet to make their presence known. Upon official introduction you both know that you both have been fantasizing about each other but keep it professional. Only for you to look for friendship in the physical therapist while said employee wants you all to him self but doesn’t know how to articulate that without coming off harsh. This was the sweetest book and get gets so much better!!! I loved everything about Deanni and Carlo’s story. Both MC are dealing with hurt and trying to learn and new way of living and trying to lower walls from around them that other have caused and have them pushing everyone away. Deanni has a very small circle that she depends on while she trying to navigate through her pain. Where as Cario simply has become mean and has put his health, career, best friend and life on pause just so he doesn’t have to deal with life while he too is navigating some hurt betrayal and drama he might have to sit in for a while.
Both characters do allow each other in and motivate each other to keep pushing for better and reaching higher. They struggle in areas that allow doubt and fees to take up space. When secrets are revealed and the blinders are removed they are forced to see people for who they really are to one another and everyone that was once apart of their lives don’t all serve a purpose anymore and want more pain than anything.
I loved their chemistry and the story of how they came to be even when they got on my last nerves but was glad they seen it through. When Deanni ups and leaves I was so scared that they would have a hard time finding their way back. But ya boy Cario is a man and stands on business and goes for what he wants and has been listening all along.
Them ex’s and old friends got what they deserved. The friend knows she was moving funny and stupid games get you stupid prizes. My anxiety was going through in when the friend shows up with a visitor.
Give this book a try you won’t regret it!!! If your a love will find its way kind of person!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥Babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The way I was only 64% done with the book and had to write this review and i don't really even do them is crazy. The way Cairo was so patient with her, how he showed her that she could trust him, and that he was willing to heal not only with her but that they could do it together is chef's kiss. I love the way the author wrote this book. I love how Cairo called her brother and asked for his blessing even though he didn't have to. The way Cairo mother was secretly playing matchmaker lol and they knew it to but just let it happen. The way how the book really showed them healing each other and taking their time together I loved every bit of it.😘

This was such a sweet read that was the embodiment of “we sometimes heal best in relationship with others”. I absolutely loved Deanni & my heart truly broke for her. But the way that Cairo loved her through her trauma and taught her to love & trust not just him but herself was beautiful, after he got over himself of course lol. He was a mean thing at first, but he was also learning to trust and be vulnerable again as well. The 3rd act breakup made my chest hurt because it didn't have to happen. BUT I was glad thar they were able to move through it quickly. Loved the side characters too! There aren't any trigger warnings so be mindful if themes involving SA are challenging for you.
I haven’t read something so beautifully written in a while. I realize now that I’ve been using “swoon-worthy” to describe too many books, but my goodness, this was definitely it! The character development was top tier and the focus on healing and really getting to know one another was outstanding. This story touched on some tough topics, but I loved how those things didn’t stop these two once they got started! I may have to reread it again in a few weeks because it was THAT good!
With friends and exes like Tina and Faye Ani and Ro certainly didn't need enemies. These two main characters got reaquainted after though times in both their lives and realized that they should have never said never to love again because it didn't take long before proving they were each other's ones. It certainly wasn't without drama and a bit of grumpy VS sunshine behavior, but Mama Cheyene and bestie Ezzy kept everyone in line and proved to be very likeable characters. Overall, this was a solid read with a little bit of everything to keep me entertained.
I haven't read this author before but I will definitely be reading more!
The way she had me all in my feelings about these two! I know I'll lobe whatever else I read from her.
Cairo and Deanni are two souls who have lived a lot of life. Life has really been lifing for them but its all going to change because love will overcome anything!
Was a cute little love story. At times there was a bit much of inner dialogue and a good bit or repetitiveness. I was a little tired of the tears from Ani. I understood what she was dealing with but also I was tired of her being so stubborn and always asking why. I am glad she didn’t hesitate to take Ro back and didn’t stay mad at him long. Overall I like this author and the story was cute.
This was a wonderful story about finding true love after traumatic experiences Cairo and Deanni both experienced different trauma but they found healing and love in each other unexpectedly. The characters were relatable and the extended family and friends made the storyline more realistic. You will definitely enjoy this story and its ending It was beautiful Great job Jaimiss
I have been hook on Jaimsss P books since A Love that Saves and this book was no different. Deanni and Cairo were exactly what each other needed. Deanni had trauma she was trying to work through. Cairo was trying to get healthy and get away from some extra baggage. I love Mama Chey and Ezra they were to funny. Faye, Tina and Jaden needed someone to lay hands on them. I loved everything about this Story. Cairo and Deanni helped heal each other and Love won. Great Job Jaimsss 👏🏾.
This is my first time reading this author & I’m highly impressed! Cairo & Deanni were meant to be! I loved the patience he showed her & I loved that she was able to be open. Her story was heartbreaking & I CRIED!!! I was filled with joy when the love was shown through everyone. Tina and ex-wife made me want to unalive them! Ezra, Haley & Bailee were the true definition of a friend! I want to go to Hawaii now! O & I need a plate! lol
Deanni never thought she would let a man touch her again. Then she is called out to Hawaii to be the personnel chef for her brother’s business partner, Cairo!!
Cairo never thought he would trust a woman again. He was going through a divorce and recovering from an accident at work.
Another hit from Jaimsss P. When a slow burn is done correctly, it's beautiful, and Cairo and Deanni's story was just that. I loved how tender he was with her and how he loved her where she was comfortably. They really did help each other heal from their traumas and hurts in an organic way.
You have to love a so very interesting slow burn romance that doesn't have you wanting to skip pages or put down the book because it's too slow; everyone will enjoy this one, although it does Include a mention of a sexual matter that could be a trigger for some readers. Everything needed to make a book a good read i is in there... Enjoy!
This was decent read. I’m a big fan of enemies to lovers so this was right up my alley. There were minor mistakes and also sometimes the time line didn’t make sense. But other than that it was decent and I look forward to reading something else from this writers catalog.
My first time reading anything by this author and I would recommend this book! The storyline flowed from start to finish! I loved Cairo and Deanni story! Their love story wasn't without Bulls in the road and past trauma, but with family and friends along with faith they made it!
What a beautiful love story. I was so in awe at the way the couple evolved. Momma was the ONE. She got everyone and kept everyone straight. I enjoyed every page. If you’re feeling a true love story this is the one. Jaimess really did it with this one.
Okay first thing first!! I dont know what I was expecting when I started this book. But from the 1st page I was captivated!! First it mostly took place in Hilo,Hawaii paradise in itself!! And just the flow of the story was awesome!! Easily 10 out of 10!!!
This was truly a love, love story. Cairo and Deanni both had love issues. Sometimes you are just with the wrong person. Deanni should have seeked professional help. Great love story!!!!!
That beginning was a struggle ba-by. i wanted to stop but i kept going. The redundancy if details was annoying, could of gotten a little less of those and more detail towards the ending.
Ani and Ro gave good love. Insta attraction, with a little denial. Friends to lover, and then Ro was like I ain’t letting go 😆. Trash folks got what they deserved.
