Reunited with her sister—as captives of The Obscuritas Kings—Seraphina faces disaster at every turn. She uncovers old wounds and lost allies while exposing secrets hidden not only by the cult but her very own family. Alongside Michaela and her daemon mate, Morax, Seraphina’s plan to take down The Obscuritas is quickly coming together.
The daemon city of Caligo, along with much of the world of daemons and lumens, is at war. Morax is determined to protect his mate and save his people, even if it means bringing his erratic brother, Phenex, to earth. Phenex, however, has his own agenda: finding his long-lost mate. But will she accept him in time to save their people?
Seraphina and Michaela awaken powers even The Obscuritas Kings couldn't imagine they possessed. With danger looming, the daughters of Aurora Valdis are running out of time to master their new abilities. And yet, the bonds Seraphina has formed with her Princes are stronger than ever. Those bonds might just be exactly what Seraphina needs to unleash her true potential.
New alliances are formed, traitors are unmasked, and both sisters face their most difficult choices yet.
This series is so, so addictive and I absolutely love it!
First up - you must read this in order, and read 1.5 novella as well, otherwise you'll be pretty lost if you were to start with this one. Also, check out the trigger warnings and content in case, as there are some dark moments within the books of this series.
We've been building up to Sera and Michaela reuniting and trying to put an end to the Kings. They must all work together to try and put a stop to the cult. Along the way, there are lots of feelings, plenty of steam, and some major surprises! (OMG THAT ENDING!)
It's hard to review this without giving away major spoilers. But I can say that I loved Michaela and Morax together so much, I adore Sera and her mates. And there's a new player as well! I really loved the guys getting more comfortable with each other and wanting to act on things too. My favorite type of "why choose" is poly and where all of them are open and loving, and I love this new development.
We also get to see Tibby a bit more, and I love that she finds some happiness and peace! I love their dynamic too!
If you're looking for an intense, fast paced, high heat fantasy/paranormal romance, with MF, MMFMM, MFF, then you gotta get on this series!
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
✨✨✨ Resurrection by S.D. Paine (@everafterauthor) is the third book in her Daemons and Lumens series.
Dedication: Alis volat propriis - She flies with her own wings. I dream of gods and monsters, and of the man who knew I was both. - Anon Dear readers, this book will tease your minds, choke your dreams, and fill your pretty little...hearts. And you'll like it, my sweet sadists.
Steph did it again! I quote: “It’s a bit of a cliffhanger.” She left me speechless and craving more! I’m not even sure what I feel—sadness that it happened, relief that at least one of them is safe? But one thing I do know: I’m frustrated. I need the next book now, not in several months! At least there’s another novella coming soon.
This story picks up where Retaliation and A Daemon’s Alliance left off, bringing all the characters—and even more—together at the mansion of the Obscuritas Kings. The journey to the main event is painful for many of them, and if you didn’t already hate the Kings, you definitely will now.
Resurrection is a story of truths, trust, and intense emotions, all wrapped up with some serious spice. Be prepared before you dive in!
Quotes: He brought my hand to his lips and kissed my palm much too er0tically for my liking. Actually, I did like it. His lips on my skin woke up the h0rny b!tch between my legs, but there was nothing I could do right now to satiate Miss Mina.
“Why you want this many irrational men, I’ll never know.” Delphine smirked. Seraphina shrugged, her own smirk devilish. “They’re delicious?”
Her words spurred Dev on, and he wrapped his lips around my ç0çk, making me groan. His mouth was warm, and I filled it further, thrųsting to the back of his thr0at.
This book was phenomenal, amazing, spectacular, insert your preferred adjective here. The previous two books in this series focused on plot lines that were running in parallel to each other and with Resurrection, readers finally saw those plot lines merged and the entire cast of characters are finally together, especially the Valdis sisters, Seraphina and Michaela. One thing that I loved about this book is that not only is it told from multiple points of view, more than 7 distinct voices, but somehow S.D. Paine is able to weave together all of these different POV in a way where the plot line feels refreshing and not muddled or confusing. While I am absolutely in love with plot and their battle to take down the The Obscuritas Kings, I am obsessed with the spice. The smex scenes are almost hot enough to melt your e-reader. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a spicy fantasy/paranormal romance series. Each book in this series builds off of the plot from the previous books, so all books need to read in order, which included the second book, which is a novella.
You want five hot as fuck creatures and a badass fmc, this is for you.
Action packed, delicious smut and sister love, hidden identity and powers this book has it all.
I struggled slightly in the beginning getting back into it and learned after reading that there’s a 1.5 that I missed. I suggest you read that to prevent having the same experience.
The ending though, it’s going to be a long wait… again.
Definitely no hold backs on this book at all!. From the characters to the thrill of the ride with all the right spice. This book blew my mind the way these characters hold a place in my heart 💙. What a breathtaking magical read!. ✨️
When this ARC landed in my inbox I squealed with delight- this series has me in a complete chokehold and omg this installment delivered!!! Angst. Heartbreak. Action. And oh my the spice and bonding!! It. Was. Everything. But that ending..... holy shit i did not see that coming 😭😭😭😭😭
Oh my gosh. This book. The perfect sequel. This book was so amazing and I can't get over it. Sara and all her mates? Phenex? Fabulous. I love the characters all so much and the way they all fit together is seamlessly. The relationship between all of them and when they all accept the mate bond is just amazing. When Sara and micheala finally see each other it's just so beautiful. Especially after all the misconceptions get solved. I love seeing all the characters finally get together and figure things out. Tibby finally finding her mates and finally getting the attention she deserves is so very great and I definitely think she needed it. This story made me feel so many things and I can't wait for more.
I had the chance to beta read this book, and what a delight 🥹
Everything is perfect from A to Z! The story, the plot, the characters!!!!🥵
If only they were real...😏
I honestly have an addiction that consumes me day after day, I need more!
S.D. Paine, you're fabulous. You deserve a huge success on this series, and I hope you get it soon!
My friend, thank you for everything you offer us in your books. You give us so much more than just a book. It's way more than that, it's a real moment of pleasure, a real dream we can all share together!
So please, guys, just read this series. It's the perfect series to start now!😈
Oh my GOSH, I don't think you're ready for this SPICY 2nd book 👀👀 (3rd if you read the Novella, which you 100000% SHOULD)
I've devoured this series so far and enjoyed every second of it. The writing really throws me 😅 in the best possible way.
I'm not sure how she does it, but S.D Paine manages to write a dark and emotional damaging book with such vile and disgusting characters you would absolutely stab in the eye with a blunt object, while also making parts fun, light and sassy?
It's got loads of POVs, and such a vast array of different personalities and at some points I wasn't sure who I liked the most or who I'd consider the "main character" as they're all fantastic and complex.
I'm over here dying because she ended on a cliffhanger and now I'm sitting here like.... what?!?!
I have no words...I never wanted this book to end!!! If you havent entered the world of Daemons & Lumens you are truely missing out. This is the second book in the series as well as a novella and OMG they get better with every book that comes out. This Why Choose world has princes that will automatically join your book boyfriend line up. The storyline is on point and if you pick it up make sure you have no plans because you wont be able to put it down!
Going into "Resurrection", my first thought was, "Please don’t let this end in another painful cliffhanger." But then I remembered—this is Stephanie, and she loves cliffhangers! And wow, she really delivered.
I can’t believe I finished this book in just five hours! Someone needs to smack me—how could I devour it so quickly after waiting so long for it? But honestly, I couldn’t help myself. My review, in short: "I LOVED IT, I DEVOURED IT, AND I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE HAS TO SAY!"
I have no rational thoughts left. This book has left me speechless. The writing has gotten so much better since the first book. It’s more detailed, more vivid, and so much easier to visualize. Everything felt real, as if I was living in the world of daemons and lumens myself. The way the author reveals small hints while still keeping key secrets hidden was masterful—it kept me guessing and completely hooked from start to finish.
From the dedication, I knew we were in for a ride. "Mera Dil? Stephanie?" Excuse me—what? Dev’s POV was like an emotional bomb ready to go off from the start. The angst, the betrayal—"oh, my heart!" And when Dev called her "Mera Dil?" AHHH! His pain hit hard and fast.
One of my favorite scenes had to be the moment between Tibby and Grem! That moment gave me life. Also, the way the princes practically worship Seraphina? Absolute perfection. Every time they’re near her, you can feel the devotion pouring off the page.
The plot just keeps getting better, and I’m obsessed with how it all flows together. The pacing is perfect, with seamless transitions between POVs. I already knew about the infamous cutlery scene, but seeing it unfold was even better than I imagined. I felt Seraphina’s frustration, her raw stabby energy. And Michaela and Morax? They absolutely stole my heart. Morax is the sweetest daemon, and this book will make you swoon in a thousand ways—I promise!
Honestly, I’m so wrapped up in this world that I don’t have space for anything else. The story has completely absorbed me, and I’m almost tempted to find a way to step into the book myself! It’s addictive in the best way, with so many love stories intertwined, each more captivating than the last. And, oh my goodness, the withdrawal is real—I might need a support group to get through it!
Resurrection took everything I loved about the first two books and turned it up to eleven. P.S: If Seraphina doesn’t want Phen, I’ll be first in line to take him!
“ Beg me for it, mate. I’ve been in anguish for days, mini monstra. My heart near to breaking at your dismissal. I want you as desperate for me as I have been for you. Is your body aching? I can give you what you need. If you f*cking beg.”
This👏Book👏. I don't want to give anything away because you absolutely have to go read this series from the start but I will say the plot, plots and the spice, spices! 🔥🥵🔥🥵 The dirty talk from these men, I can't even deal. I love the characters and the building story, the way she makes you loathe some of the characters while caring so much for the others 🤌. I know I'm going to be wrecked when this series ends because I'm so invested in these characters and this story right now. It was everything I needed in the next part of this series, other than it ended on a huge cliffhanger and I want more like yesterday, ahh I cannot wait for the next one.
If you enjoy a dark, super spicy series that has a little bit of everything thrown in to make you love it, go to the start of this series and read it. 😉 (Retaliation, Daemon's Alliance, Resurrection)
This book was a rollercoaster!! The continued pain and treatment of some of our fav characters by the kings was so hard, but seeing them work thru it and come up with plans was so fun and so inspirational! I loved seeing the internal conflicts of different characters and the plot twists were insane! Diff connections being formed, new characters, new details about the past and politics in the world were all incredible and kept me on my toes!
The spice was INTENSE, reverse harem, lots of overlap of male and female relationships and such a fun change from my normal spice reads! I loved seeing Seraphina break some of her walls down and the magic in this was soooo dope! The CLIFF HANGER at the end was insaneeee 😭 but I’m so excited to see how it develops in the next book!
Please read TWs bc there are some hefty scenes in this book but the author knows how to write in a way that hurts your soul but heals you after ♡
As always SD Paine makes us suffer beautifully with a soul crushing cliff hanger. This series is beautifully crafted and has been one of my favorite reads this year. I cannot speak highly enough of these books, or characters.
After the first book and half of this series, getting to see Seraphina and Michaela reunited made my heart so happy. And after all the drama at the end of book one and Dev’s betrayal, I loveddddd watching him beg for forgiveness like a good boy, and not just forgiveness from Seraphina but the boys too.😮💨👀 This book really amped up the spice and let me tell you how much I love this little harem and the relationship we got to see more of between my princes.🫣 Also, introducing Phenex (!!!!) to Seraphina and the others was just 🫠🫠🫠 everything. I’ve been a Ty 🥹 girly from the start but Morax and Phenex have really got me on a hook over here.🤪 I cannot wait to see what happens next with the series, I have a feeling it’s gonna be EVERYTHING and more, and it’s gonna be a wild ride like the first two have been. 😅🖤
I did receive this book as an ARC but all thoughts are my own true opinions.
S.D. Paine has knocked my socks right off, yet again! All I can say is that the day I was introduced to this author’s work was a fortuitous one. I cannot get enough of her writing and this series.
Seraphina is one exceptionally badass chick— a woman after my own heart and on of my favs of her ilk in the dark para-mance sphere. Her journey in book two is well worth the wait, with character arcs coming into their own, new intros and some beautifully depicted expansion to the D&L world-building. There’s even a familial reunion that managed to set my black little heart a flutter. And don't even get me started on a certain someone’s *cough “Dev” cough* grovelling return on bended knee. 😝 Such a wel-behaved boy... in the end.
For lovers of suspense, twisted secret societies, occult themes, supernatural characters and an FMC on a mission then book two, Resurrection, from the Daemons and Lumens series is a must.
I could not have imagined how possibly good this book would be.. even after reading the other two Daemons and Lumens books!
Not only do we have Seraphina and her dark princes, but her sister, Michaela, and her demon mate are in this book. We also are reunited with Tibby and Gremory (who we meet in the novella). Plus, add in another yummy character and a few supporting roles and IT IS A PARTY! A rave to be more specific!
This is very much a secret society Romantacy, and the plot + action is REALLY GOOD…. But the spice. The naughty scenes. The banter. It all could not possibly be any better. I absolutely love this and I hope one day I can put an omnibus on my bookshelf with this strong FMC, her men, and the strong supporting female cast of this series!
Wow 🥵🌶️ I’m so glad I decided not to push this back in my TBR because this was HOT. I definitely agree with others saying to make sure to read the novella between book one and two or you might be a little lost. But this was a great continuation of the story. I still love Seraphina’s bad assery and the absolute devotion of the princes. ALSO new characters POVs unlocked! While sometimes I had a hard time keeping up with whose POV we were in I did love the sneak peeks inside their heads.
This is still a super solid and spicy paranormal RH that I’d definitely recommend if that’s your jam. I know I’ll be back for whatever book is next ❤️
In the next Sega of why can’t I get daemons to come to my house but Michaela can. I’m just a salty little lady because I love Morax. 🤣
By chapter four I’m again reminded that Seraphina is a wild free spirit and maybe a little insane with her stunt.
By the end you’re raging and I mean raging at how the book ends. Honestly. Please see me wanting to cry because I need more. I am so entranced by this book, the hot AF daemons, and the amazing MFCs. I didn’t want it to end. Can I please have more.
You’re in for the shock of your lifetime. My jaw hit the floor. Many. Many. Times. Not just from these men and their mouths either.
I love S.D paine’s style of writing, she leaves you craving more and willing to give anything for our daemons. There is never a dull moment with her books as well.
Please read this, please. It’s jaw dropping, entrancing, and spicy spicy spicy. Like gah.
Thoughts: This book had all the violence and action you could want, I absolutely LOVED it. The Spice was hot and Spicy with Seraphena and her Princes, Michaela with her Daemon and Tibby with her witch and Daemon. There were even some D/s elements weaved through the groupings - these were very k!nky individuals. Beyond all the intimate scenes, there was a great overarching plot and a lot of violent action as they take on the evil cult with their newfound magic powers.
🛑Please read all the author warnings as themes and events in this book could be triggering. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
After having read both of S.D. Paine’s other two books in the Daemons and Lumens series I couldn’t wait to find out how the story continues. Both definitely need to be read to fully understand what happens in Resurrection.
Seraphina is still a kick ass, act now, ask questions later FMC. For me, she has similarities to Aelin from Throne of Glass but with a twist. Add in the why choose/harem aspect and it just feels different. This one is definitely the spiciest out of the three so far and is definitely more intense in all aspects (both spice and violence), so I do recommend checking the trigger warnings.
I have to say that I was frustrated (as I usually am) with the cliffhanger ending, but there was at least an epilogue that I found helpful.
Overall, it was a bit more on the intense side in general for me (but I felt like I knew what I was walking into), but I did still enjoy it and will more than likely continue to follow the series.
This was unfortunately a DNF for me, and I am honestly upset with myself for it.
The book seems to be a hit with a lot of other readers who are following the series, I myself have read the first two in the series and loved them, but I was simply not a fan of the introduction and I couldn't get past it.
I'll come back after it's published to explain my reasoning as I do not want to spoil it.
Again, there's nothing wrong with the book! It just wasn't my cup of tea.
This book throws you right into the action from page 1 and I just devoured it! The series gets better and better. Sisters Seraphina and Michaela are getting more badass, the Kings are getting more evil and the Princes are getting hotter!! Add the Daemons to the mix and you have a very dangerous (but very nice) cocktail ♥️
The plot thickens!!!! We are introduced to a few more characters throughout the story and the ‘team’ dynamics that are starting to appear are very good. But I’m really at a loss now as to how I feel after that ending. I mean WHAT THE FREAKING HELL!!!!
Along with lots of action and spicy romance there are sad moments too but it’s a good balance to make this worthy of a 5🌟 review.
Book 2 (or 3rd book if you read the 1.5 novella, which you really should) in the Daemons and Lumens series.
This book reunited Seraphine and Michaela in torturous circumstances. Both have their men as their sides as they try to navigate The Kings and stay alive.
The spice was spicing with Michaela and Morax finally solidifying their mate bond and then with Seraphine and her 4 princes, but now she has 5 😱 The introduction of Phenex into their Harem was exceptional and super hot 🔥
I honestly thought we were greating our HEA as I neared the ending of the book, but as much as the twist absolutely threw me for a loop, I'm dying to see how our MCs get out of this situation fully in tact. Roll on the next instalment 😍
Between the spice, new characters, and plot twists, I couldn't put this book down and completely devoured it 😎
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book had everything I was looking for- powers, daemons, lumens, mates, battles, badassery, smexy time, even short chapters. I loved all the twists and turns, there were so many unexpected things. Our characters slayed once again (literally), and I loved seeing them all come into their powers and embracing eachother. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
This series is so cool!! You have Daemons, Witches, Luimens, and a secret evil cult. All of it was so creatively written and interconnected.
This is book 2 (after 1 and 1.5) and you definitely should read them in order or you will be lost because so much that has been building up finally gets it’s time to shine in this book.
I’m so in love with Michaela and Morax’s relationship. They are so cute and he is so protective of her. Then there is Seraphine fully encompassing the why choose vibes with a bunch of hottie cult princes that are actually good guys.
There are a lot of twists and turns throughout and you also get the POV from most of the main characters which makes it a lot of fun and a smart way to connect with all of them.
Definitely the perfect smutty read for all of my paranormal romance readers out there!
This whole series, including the novella, is just amazing. The spice continues and is so amazingly done. The reverse harem continues, and there may be another added 👀👀.
The storyline continues and of course, left on a cliff hanger. There’s so many twist that you wonder where the characters will end up. And you see from every perspective with the multiple POVs.
Please read this series in order and check those trigger warnings!
And a special thank you to the author and their PR team for the eARC.
I have been highly recommending this series since the first book. Each book just keeps getting better and better! If you love paranormal, monster, and/or whychoose romance, this series is a MUST READ!
Normally, I don’t enjoy multiple POVs as much, especially if there’s more than three. BUT it was perfect for this second book. I loved that we got glimpses into multiple main characters, and it really makes sense to have that for this storyline. The author wrote it so seamlessly. I never felt whiplashed or confused.
I don’t want to say too much because it definitely will give away spoilers for the first book and even for the novella, A Daemon’s Alliance, which is about one of the sisters (it released after the first book). But I will say that the action and the spice was 🔥
PLEASE add this series to your TBR! It’s one of my favorite reads and series of the year. I cannot wait to read the next book!
A very special thank you to the author for the the arc! 🥰🫶🏼
More strong, feisty females, men and daemons who worship them, female rage, dark worldbuilding, and spicy interludes that serve the plot.
I savored this one 😈 I NEEDED the fierce feminine rage Seraphina exudes, and I so appreciate how her Daemons worship her...and each other. 🥵
The harem is getting stronger, and the sisters come into their power. Sacrifices are made, and Paine almost let's you think there will be a happy ending with this one...
But Paine is the master of twisted cliffhangers, and this one will leave you desperate to know what's next.
These are spicy reads but honestly there's so much more here...including fury at injustice, bad guys who are frightening and vindictive, healing narratives, and all sorts of love and heart.
The good guys WILL triumph...but not in this one y'all.
Steph got the luxury of getting my live reactions during this. It was AMAZING. I loved this book. I was so excited to jump back into Sera's story and getting to see more of her and the princes. I also loved getting more of Mikaela and Morax because I love them. Some of the stuff in this book i was expecting after what we learned in the other 2 books but some of it was so unexpected my jaw DROPPED! It was crazy. I wish I could put into words how I felt. Seriously, if you like Daemons (or Lumens) READ THESE BOOKS!
