“Dark, Suspenseful Psychology Fiction that tells the story of Letty Stark and Multiple Personality Disorder.”
“Horror Psychology. A shocker murder suspense, not for the fainthearted.”
The story asks the reader to Who is Letty Stark?
Letty developed Disassociative Identity Disorderas a coping mechanism for childhood trauma. Her alter ego's representing different aspects of her personality, including empathy, fear and violence. The story takes the reader through each of Letty's personalities as they wreak havoc on the unsuspecting and asks the reader to discover who is the real Letty Stark...
I first met Letty Stark in October 2021, two years before she passed away in 2023. I still remember as she walked into the hotel foyer my initial surprise. She was a small woman with silver hair that appeared slightly bohemian. Her hair tied up to form a bunch on the top of her head that kept her face clear. Her clothing reflecting fashion from a couple of decades ago in the form of a gray and purple check woolen suit and a 70s style blouse with oversized collars and colorful scarf. She walked directly up to me faster than I expected for a person of age, as though with deliberate intent...
Letty Stark is not your typical heroine. Letty presents herself as a composed and successful individual, navigating the corridors of her professional life with precision and control. Yet, beneath this facade lies a tumultuous inner world marked by psychopathic tendencies and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), a condition where multiple distinct identities coexist within a single individual. Each of Letty’s personas is a testament to her fractured psyche, each vying for control, each a guardian of the different aspects of her personality and memories.
From the outset, ‘Mind Keeper’ immerses readers in the intricate web of Letty’s mind. The narrative begins with a glimpse into her daily life, a seemingly ordinary existence marred by extraordinary challenges. Letty’s condition, rooted in a traumatic past, manifests through various personas that emerge unpredictably, often triggered by stress or specific stimuli. These alter egos range from the nurturing and protective to the dangerously vengeful, creating a volatile and unpredictable internal landscape...
Not for the fainthearted. Genetic Engineering Science Fiction.
Messes with your mind and keeps you in suspense right to the end !Highly recommended Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 November 2024 When I started reading Mind Keeper by Derek Finn, I knew it was psychological fiction, yet I was not prepared for the journey I was about to embark on once I was introduced to the main character and their multiple personalities. The novel is a page turning thriller that pulls the reader in and holds you in a state of suspense, at times fear and mystery, and at times you will start questioning and doubting your own mind . Yet, by the end of the novel it will have you in awe and you will feel like you've been part of the main character's world. Multiple voices force their way to be heard , each character will draw you in and will play with your emotions and mess with your mind until the bitter end.
In my opinion, writing about a complex subject such as multiple personality disorders is a brave task and Irish author, Derek Finn, combines excellent character development alongside fascinating information on topics such as neuroscience and psychology and the result is a very well written thriller that encourages the reader to strive to the end, longing to get to the truth. I will admit I found some chapters disturbing to read, as this isn't the type of book I normally read, but by the end I've become so fascinated with the topic of multiple personality disorder that I want to further research it. Highly recommend this thrilling rollercoaster ride that certainly will convince you that monsters are real and is definitely not for the faint hearted !
I really thought this was going to be a completely different story and to be honest I was pretty disappointed. This was marketed way differently, so if you’re not wanting a psychological sci-fi type book, then don’t waste your time like I did. The beginning was interesting, I’ll give it that, but after about 50 pages and I was so bored and honestly was confused as to what the hell was happening.
I’m disappointed that I spent money on this and really wish I didn’t. My rating would probably be more of a 2.5 if the rating could be rated that way, so I rounded it up to a 3. Extremely disappointed with this story.
This almost felt like something I would have read in a psychology class…
I was drawn in by the amazing cover and title. The story of Letty is a complicated one due to her DID (Dissociative identity disorder) stemming from a traumatic past. The author has a great fictional story with this character but I found the science info distracting. I understand the author was blending both his knowledge of science and fiction together in the novel but I felt the science parts overtook the fictional story which was a pity for me.
Great book that I'd highly recommend! While reading, I couldn't help but to think back to the things I learned about the human mind and behavior from my Psychology of Aging course. A lot of the unfurnished tracks. This book was dark, enlightening, and entertaining all at the same time.
