I look to poetry for musicality, vivid imagery and wisdom, and this book did not disappoint. Again and again, I was drawn into the exquisite beauty of these poems and plunged into a world where growth and healing are possible, despite our struggles. Gathering apples at an orchard and companioning a parent at the end of life are the kinds of human experiences I found in these pages. I was sometimes intrigued and sometimes heartbroken, but always left with fragments of hope.
An emotional collection of poems in which weather and landscapes take on, with Annette Sisson's careful and detailed descriptions, heft of human meaning--not out of an anthropomorphism, but because for this poet, we and the natural world are integral. "We find each other among trees--/leaf on leaf, skin on skin,//wave upon shoal." Her lexicon is striking, alluring, unexpected and brings strong music. Highly recommended.
Annette Sisson’s book of poems is an exquisite collection reminiscent of Linda Pastan. Its everyday themes offer consistent reading pleasure as well as inspiring material to poets. I look forward to reading the other works of this skillful poet!
