A mission gone sideways sets events in motion neither of us is ready for.
Tavish
For nearly twenty years I suffered, but it lead me to him. As crazy as it sounds, he makes it all worth it, but the return of his sister and the man I escaped jeopardizes everything.
Draven
I’m beginning to believe I’m cursed. I’ve lost everyone I’ve ever loved. Then I found him and even though I fought it, I couldn’t help falling for him. Now I may lose him too.
A first chance at love and happiness for one is the second chance for the other, but only if they can overcome the secrets from their pasts and the threat to their future.
Escaping the Code is book two in the Sins of the Father duet.
Sara identifies as a geek and an extroverted introvert. She loves being out in a crowd and having a good time, but getting her there can be a pain.
Most of the time, you will find her nose buried in her phone, reading or rereading a book. Besides a good book, Sara loves technology, building things, and learning as much as possible about almost any subject. Sara believes there can never be too much romance in this world and reads romance from all angles and facets of life, which makes Sara an ALLY to all, and she wants her books to show that.
She’s a wife and mom of three kids, two dogs, and two cats—a lover of baseball, hockey, motorcycles, spin classes, and roller coasters.
OK... So.... Book 1 was phenomenal right? Even on the re-read of it I did before I started this one it still blew me away and I was knee deep back in this world so quickly it felt like I'd never left.
But this book? Sweet Lord it's phenomenal and I cannot put in to words the emotional rollercoaster these 2 extraordinary men took me on.
Plot = Outstanding Absolutely zero spoilers but there was only 2 ways this could go in my head after the last chapter of book 1 and, hand on heart, I had no idea which one (if either) would play out. There's absolutely zero predictably in this (and book 1) and, whatever you think is going to happen because you think you've worked it out or spotted a clue somewhere, just laughs in your face as it takes a leap-frog in to a completely different direction! And I love that so so much. Yes I love your standard HEA romance reads that have the 3rd act break up. But you always know things are going to work out in those. But in this? You have absolutely zero idea where it's going and I was scared of how it might end. It's Gut wrenchingly heartbreaking in parts but you still can't tear yourself away from it. It's like rubbernecking but on your kindle.
Characterisation = Phenomenal Tavish and Draven stay a true continuation of book 1 and, as the book progresses and we delve deeper into their minds, the characterisation of these 2 just blew me away. I feel like I know them, I feel like I'm there in the room with them and every word, move & thought is so perfectly written it feels like I'm invading their privacy because they're so clear in my mind. And it's all absolutely perfect in quantity. No description is stretched out to fill up the word count, nothing is cut or half-added to save tine/space. It's literal perfection and I cannot praise this book & series enough.
Book 1 of the series was my first by the author and, as it's a cliffhanger, I wanted to read book 2 before adding Sara Hurst to my fav author list 😊 safe to say she is now top 3 and I'm going to read everything she's written quicker than I can down shots of tequila (almost) 🤣
Easy 5 stars but that doesn't seem like enough. So have a *chefs kiss and a 10 minute standing ovation as well 🤣👏🧑🍳💋
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review
This book. Yall. This book will pull on ALLLLLL of your freaking heart strings, over and over and over again. You'll want to reach through your screen and hold onto Tavish and Draven and NEVER freaking let go. Ever. These two are put through the absolute ringer. Testing every possible thing you can imagine. Ugh my heart has never raced so much with a book before like it did with this one.
Tavish, oh sweet boy. I wish I could be friends with him in real life because he is absolutely the best person ever. His heart is so pure even with having the life he's been given. I just love every single thing about him. Don't you fret, if we were friends, you'd never have to worry about running out of snacks, I'd stock you up forever! Don't tell Draven! 😘
I absolutely loved everything about this book. Maybe not certain aspects, but it tied the story together and created a beautiful completion to Tavish and Draven's story. The development of both of these characters absolutely exceeded the first book, in the best way possible.
That epilogue....boy....the tears! Gahhhh my heartttttttttt.
4.25 stars - This story picks up pretty much right after the last one ended. Tavish is still working as the tech master for the group while Draven is off following leads Tavish has come up with for Draven to find his sister. When he returns from one trip, he finds Tavish is out with the group but left alone in a van where Draven believes he is not safe. After taking Tavish back to the mansion, they spot and are spotted by the evil guy who originally trafficked and kept Tavish, whom they thought was destroyed when they escaped in the last book. This forces Draven to take them to his ancestral home in Scotland where he believes Tavish will be safe until they can take care of the problem.
In the meantime, Draven and Tavish are working through their own relationship. Tavish still has some major issues from his past and while he is secure in his feelings for Draven, they have to navigate things carefully here and there, which, in turn, causes insecurities in Tavish, etc. So, they are treading on some shaky ground here and there, although their feelings for each other are always pretty clear.
One of the things I loved from the first book was the genuineness of Draven’s Scottishness. It is sometimes difficult to read, but that makes it more realistic to me, as I’d have the same trouble if I were listening to it. It isn’t hard to catch on to the meanings of things at all – it’s more of not being natural language for us English speakers to read – and I loved this about it.
The story moves along at a great pace for the most part. There were some parts I felt could have been a little more fleshed out, such as Tavish’s PTSD-type issues, but all in all, I was flipping pages to get to the finale. I’m actually sad this was only a duet. However, there are a lot of characters we are given a taste of and possible spin-off opportunities, so I’m really hoping this isn’t the last we see of this world. I’ve really enjoyed Ms. Hurst’s writing and look forward to reading more of her catalogue.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review! 5/5 ⭐ 's
Well as I stated before, I loved the first book. It was everything I love in a book. Sara Hurst has a knack for the darker romance that I cannot get enough of! Angsty, hurt/comfort, mystery and action all jam packed in a sexy kinky romance of the ages! The ending to this duet definitely didn't disappoint either. It focused more on the relationship of Tavish and Draven more so then on the kinky dynamics between them (but fear not there are plenty of spicy and kinky scenes as well).
This book continues on from where we left off in the first book, and is definitely much darker so again, check the TW's, but if you've read the first book you should already be prepared for it. It hit the spot for a darker MM romance and I definitely still love the underground society and vigilante Justice vibes that are throughout this duet. I don't want to give too many spoilers but trust when I say, this finale is a good one and will make you fall so much harder for Daddy Draven. Tavish is the same sweet, resilient, strong and brave little boy we know and love, but we get to see more in depth how great a daddy Draven is. We also get to see how Tavish completes him.
I loved how they included Draven's late husband into their love and kink dynamic as well. It was beautiful and amazingly done, because sometimes we see a dead partner or as a competition but Sara Hurst definitely takes that and dumps it on its head. She weaves a beautiful tale of loss, hurt, trauma and love into a deadly story full of thrilling plot and very sexy kinky scenes 😈🥰. I adored and can't wait to see what other MM romances this author has to offer in the future!
Sara has done it again with *Escaping the Code,* the second book in the Sins of the Father duet, and it’s everything you want in a high-stakes, emotional romance.
Let’s dive into Tavish and Draven’s tangled web of love, pain, and secrets. Tavish has endured nearly two decades of suffering, and just when he finds a reason to believe it was all worth it, his past comes back with a vengeance. And then there’s Draven, the man who’s convinced he’s cursed. He’s lost everyone he’s ever loved, and now, just as he finds a shot at happiness with Tavish, the fear of losing him too threatens to consume him.
The characters in this book are what make this story shine. Hurst gives us layers upon layers of emotional depth. You can feel Tavish’s pain and hope, Draven’s fear and longing, and it’s all wrapped up in a plot that doesn’t let you catch your breath. The pacing is on point—no unnecessary filler here. Every scene moves the story forward, keeping you hooked from start to finish.
What really sets this book apart, though, is its modern and relevant voice. Hurst writes with a freshness that makes these characters and their struggles feel real and relatable. The dialogue is sharp, the emotions raw, and the humor perfectly timed to break the tension when you need it most.
In short, *Escaping the Code* is an emotional powerhouse of a novel with characters you’ll fall in love with and a story that’ll stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page. If you’re ready for a romance that’s as intense as it is heartfelt, this book needs to be on your TBR list.
I loved the first book and was looking forward to reading this and I was not disappointed. I thought there was a lot of action in the first book but wow this was full on from page one. Concentrating on the stars of the show Tavish and Draven we follow them as Draven is trying to protect Tavish from his past. and there was more than once that my heart was in my mouth. Tavish is still his loveable, snack eating self but at the times when his bratty side came really showed Draven in full Daddy mode and you can see just how much their relationship had come on. Whilst there was not many quiet times, there was still some tender moments between the pair and I was glad that the Gaelic and Swedish endearments were back and I was reminding just how much I liked Draven. There were some scenes that I did not expect which ties the books together and throughout the book my emotions were all over the place. I do not want to say anymore due to spoilers. What I will say was I was so glad I read this book and it will be a series that I will return to. I love the new covers and I am looking forward to seeing what Sara Hurst has to offer next and I will be at the front of the queue to purchase the next book.
It's quite the challenge to unpack all of my feelings from this book. In the series' first book, Breaking the Code, there's a lot of brand new information and the introduction of the characters, so there's a bit less action and we're left at the end of that book on a cliff-hanger. Jumping into Escaping the Code, I will say that my first reaction was a bit of relief, when thinking back on said cliff-hanger. While there are happier moments of calm throughout, the level of danger and stress in this book increased my heartrate ten-fold quite often. I only want the best for Draven & Tavish, and the evil of the Order of Death puts a massive hamper on that happiness.
By the end of the action-packed story, I had definitely cried far more than I had expected. While we get this couple's HEA, there are others that don't get the same treatment, and it makes my heart hurt every time I think about them.
You cannot read this book without first reading Breaking the Code. But if you enjoyed the first book, you will likely enjoy the story's conclusion. Sins of the Father is an intense series, but very well written and enjoyable.
I received an advance copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
Draven and Tavish are trying to settle into their new relationship. Tavis is spotted by his evil former captor. This spurs a race across the pond to Scotland in order to hide and protect Tavish. They have a little bit of time together to play and get to actually know one another better. Unfortunately, the danger looming finds them, and Tavis is shoved back into his former traumatizing life. When Draven goes after him, secrets and ghosts from the past are revealed. When Tavish is rescued, he mistakenly believes that he won't fit in with Draven's new life. He pushes Draven away after he pledges to wait for him. He finally gets some sense knocked into him and rushes home to Draven. I really hope we get a story with a certain brat and his hopefully two men.
I love me some Draven and Tavish. They are the perfect Daddy-Little team. They don't always fit that dynamic, but it is there. I am definitely here for the way Draven takes care of Tavish. This book keeps up the excitement. For these two, there always seems to be something lurking around the corner. Societas Exspiravit has put Tavish in danger. Draven was not having that mess. He knew just how to take care of his boy. Draven whisked Tavish away right before they fell into a trap. Now in Scotland, they can become a real couple with no fear.
Unfortunately fear and evil have no bounds. Simon is back and he is willing to do anything to get Tavish back in his grasp. This book had my blood pumping, anxiety on ten. I loved every minute of it. This dark M/M romance is similar to the first book. Draven's Scottish vernacular is still in full force. Readers will have no problem getting used to it. As always, I am ready for more Ms. Hurst.
🖤 Dark romance 🖤 Age gap 🖤 Enemies to lovers 🖤 MM 🖤 Secret society 🖤 Nice kink list 🖤 Grumpy x Sunshine
I was so excited to get back to Travis and Draven’s story, I was enamoured by the pair of them from the first page of book one and couldn’t wait to see where life took them both in book two and I was not disappointed with the outcome.
As far as theory goes, they are complete and utter opposites, but on the page they just work so well together and make up one of my top favourite MM pairings in a book to date.
Sara knocked it out of the park with the final instalment of their story and really did the characters justice in her portrayal of their unconventional story of finding love. It’s going to take my heart a little while to recover from this one.
I loved Draven and Tavish. Draven just came back from another unsuccessful from finding his sister when he didn't see that Tavish wasn't inside the mansion and the computer was still on and a dot wasn't moving. Draven ran to the garage grabbed some keys and opened the garage door and got into the the vehicle and speed where Tavish is at. Draven told Tavish to get into the vehicle we're leaving it's not safe. Someone that hurt Tavish most of his life was after Tavish. Draven took Tavish to his house in his homeland

The story was already great on book one, one of those stories you wait but are afraid of reading at the same time. Is one of those that was too good and you are afraid for the second part to not live up to it because it was that good. Yet, this part is even better.
The story is beautiful, the characters... I just love them too much. The relationship evolves naturally and the end is everything you could expect of it and more. It has become one of my favourite books, and even having reread breaking the code before this it didn't become boring or it didn't make me want to close the book at any point.
Escaping the Code is the second book in the Sins of the Father series. This book is action-packed, exciting, steamy, and a bit heartbreaking. I couldn’t put this book down and just want more of Tavish and Draven!
I loved Tavish and Draven together. They both need each other and help each other heal. I would to see more of them in the future with an extended epilogue or something.
If you are looking for an exciting book with mentions of secret societies then you need to read the duet right away. Be sure to check the trigger warnings because there are quite a few potential triggers.
What an ending to this story! It is definitely way darker than book one so make sure you read the TW/CW. This story was so emotional, action packed and suspenseful. I felt for Tavish and everything he went through. And Draven’s feeling of defeat and responsibility tore my heart, but the happily ever after was exactly what I needed. Lots of DD/LB play this time around and the spice was great as well. I felt like the pace and the action was much better in this book as well.
Picking up where the last book left off, Tavish and Draven escape Samuel and hide in Scotland. But they can't stay hidden forever. Filled with action, terror, assault and pain, violence and so much loving between a Daddy and his Boy, this book brings a thrilling conclusion to their part of taking down the bad guys. I love Tavish in his brattiness and Draven with his sexy Scottish hunkiness. It was an ending worth waiting for. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
I didn't know what I got myself into with the first book, and this one definitely put it on my top tear shelf for 2024. I fell in love with Draven as much as his black heart is he has a soft spot for Tavish. Tavish was a whirl wind of emotions to read this pore boy and the tragic/trauma he had gone through prior was just heart shattering. This was a beautiful read over all
I thought Breaking The Code was awesome but Escaping The Code was off the charts Amazing. Like wow. I loved it. Gotta see Daddy Draven back with Tavish. I love their dynamics together and everything they go through. This book deals with a lot of trauma, loss, love and hurt. Sara Hurst did an amazing job bringing it all together in this story. This is the 2nd book I’ve read from her and I most definitely will read more. Bring it on. I want more.
This second book in the Sins of the Father duet leads us through so much action, danger, sadness, depravity, lost family and a new life. Yet the love between Tavish and Draven is so powerful and steamy, you want to read more. Sara has given us two strong main characters and amazing locations to get lost in.
I really enjoyed the conclusion to Tavish & Draven’s story. It was well written and covered some hard topics. I enjoyed seeing their relationship deepen into something real between them. My heart was broken in some parts over what happened to Tavish but I loved that Draven wouldn’t give up on him. Great read.
If I thought I loved the first one then I absolutely fell head over heels in love with this one. It was filled with so much heartbreak, anguish, found family, kidnapping, dom/sub relationships and so much more. It had me captivated from the start and I couldn’t put it down once I started
I adore Tavish and Draven🖤 I wish we could have more. I started reading into this world with Zayn's book and I become more obsessed with each part I read.
