Mark Waid is an American comic book writer widely known for shaping modern superhero storytelling through influential runs on major characters at both DC Comics and Marvel Comics. Raised in Alabama, he developed an early fascination with comic books, particularly classic stories featuring the Legion of Super-Heroes, whose imaginative scope and sense of legacy would later inform his own writing. He first entered the comics industry during the mid 1980s as an editor and writer for the fan magazine Amazing Heroes, before publishing his first professional comic story in Action Comics. Soon afterward he joined DC Comics as an editor, contributing to numerous titles and helping shape projects across the company. After leaving editorial work to focus on writing, Waid gained widespread recognition with his long run on The Flash, where he expanded the mythology of the character and co-created the youthful speedster Impulse. His reputation grew further with the celebrated graphic novel Kingdom Come, created with artist Alex Ross, which imagined a future DC Universe shaped by generational conflict among superheroes. Over the years he has written many prominent series, including Captain America, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and Superman: Birthright, bringing a balance of optimism, character depth, and respect for comic book history to each project. Waid has also collaborated with notable artists and writers on major ensemble titles such as Justice League and Avengers, while contributing ideas that helped clarify complex continuity within shared superhero universes. Beyond mainstream superhero work, he has supported creator owned projects and experimental publishing models, including the acclaimed series Irredeemable and Incorruptible, which explored moral ambiguity within the superhero genre. He later took on editorial leadership roles at Boom Studios, guiding creative direction while continuing to write extensively. In subsequent years he expanded his involvement in publishing and digital storytelling, helping launch online comics initiatives and advocating for new distribution methods for creators. His work has earned numerous industry awards, including Eisner and Harvey honors, reflecting both critical acclaim and enduring popularity among readers. Throughout his career Waid has remained a passionate student of comic book history, drawing on decades of storytelling tradition while continually encouraging innovation within the medium. His influence extends across generations of readers and creators, and his stories continue to shape the evolving language of superhero comics around the world today through enduring characters imaginative narratives and thoughtful reinventions of familiar myths within popular culture and modern graphic storytelling traditions.
A kind of mixed issue for me. Great moment with Jon, and Green Arrow obviously fucking sneaking around behind Amanda's back is great, but the way it was told seem to jump all around.
The action continues. Former JL members infiltrate Themyscira through a portal. Nightwing plans to lead Amanda Waller's dangerous soldiers with his incredible leadership skills.
Meanwhile, Waller's team has become a world power. A brainwashed Jon is searching for the heroes. Amidst the chaos, Nightwing has a secret plan to outsmart Amanda’s strategy.
Many DC characters are battling here, but there is too much exposition in this issue.
The writing and artwork are great, but the chapter feels a bit rushed.
Comics Review Name: Absolute Power (Issue #3 of 4) Writer: Mark Waid Artist: Alejandro Sanchez, Dan Mora Publication Date: April 4th, 2024 Publisher: DC Comics Genres: Action, Adventure, Superhero Reviewer: Wasim Hasan Mahmud
Uma espécie de FOMO (fear of missing out) acontece nessa edição.
An emotional read with an optimistic end. Nightwing is an incredible leader. I wish there was more time to dig into the divide between heroes who believed Jon was too much of a threat not to take the opportunity to kill him and those who insisted there had to be another way, but this is an event so the pace is obviously moving too fast to get into psyches of this many heroes. I kinda wish there were more Batfam characters involved in this event, even just as sort of backgrounders, considering they already don’t have powers so their ability to fight wouldn’t be affected.
this issue was all right compared to the others nightwing was kind of annoying though low-key like I get that he hast to keep it a secret but from an outside perspective, it looks like he’s just stopping the efforts you know I didn’t really make sense to me how John could transfer his memories into brainiac Queenlike what allowed him to do that I guess it was the Amazon magic because it was kind of low-key. I would give it 2.5 out of five if I could.
We’re starting to see how this event will lead into the launch of the Absolute Universe, and I’m pretty intrigued for issue 4. But this series stands on its own as a huge, sweeping story. I continue to be impressed by how Waid and Mora weave together different storylines. There are some quiet moments with real pathos, like Air Waves heart to heart with Aquaman, along with some crazy battles.
Reads like a World's Finest issue in the sense of fun team-ups, multiple things happening at once and conveniences. Art was great although lots of very small panels crammed - each worthy of their own bigger zoomed panel.
The main issues are good but I wish they would simply have all the side plots that matter into the main issues and have more of the event itself issues of it. I am tired of a reading a puzzle and not knowing in advance what will really matter or not.
SOOOO good, Dan Mora on art is breathtaking. Mark Waid really is top tier. This jumps about a lot which isn’t great and I feel people who haven’t read all the tie ins will be somewhat lost. Which isn’t great honestly but I suppose that’s what these “events” are for. That and making DC bank.
This one was awesome! Great action, love seeing Jon overcoming Brainiac Queen's influence, and some cool behind the scenes stuff. Good to the GL tie-in paying off in this issue as well. Just GL #15 and AP #4 before getting to DC All-In!
Again, another superb issue. Action from start to finish. Great artwork. Looking forward to more action. Next issue should be the setup for the grand finale.
