The enemy has her. And the man she loves seems intent on using her dark magic to destroy her kingdom…
In the chaos of the magical assault on Pelias, Wren has been swept far from home. She is now a prisoner, in the heart of enemy territory. At least she has the man she loves beside her, keeping their passion alive during the cold nights in this unfamiliar place.
Or so she thought…
Finn has changed since returning to his father’s kingdom. Instead of serving the princess he’s proven his loyalty to time and again, he is keeping her under guard in a tower. Desire still lights up his eyes when he looks at her. But is he enamoured by Wren, or her power?
With the unfamiliar castle calling to her dark magic, Wren is fighting every minute to keep her growing power in check. And she struggles to ignore the still-smouldering heat between her and Finn every time their fingers touch – even as he keeps her under lock and key…
Is everything she believed about Finn a lie? Or is he under the influence of the dark power here too? And will she have time to figure it out before she’s forced to turn her magic on her own kingdom?
You will not be able to put down this gripping and unputdownable romantic fantasy! Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Stacia Stark and Rebecca Yarros.

Jessica Thorne watched far too much sci-fi and read far too much fantasy at an impressionable age. And it was awesome. She writes fantasy and sci-fi romance with a steampunk edge and just refuses to face reality.
A Crown of Darkness is the stunning conclusion to The Lost Queen series. Picking up where A Kiss of Flame had left off, A Crown of Darkness brings heartbreak and betrayal for our main characters. The storyline is littered with plot twists and reveals whilst Wren, Finn, Elodie and Roland all battle towards a final showdown between the Aurum and the Nox which departs from the classic expectation of how it will all end.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and would like to thank @secondskybooks @jessthornebooks and NetGalley for the opportunity to read the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a rollercoaster! I had all the feels, but thankfully got a HEA. Parts of book were slow compared to the others in this series. However, those parts did contribute to fully closing out this trilogy without unanswered questions.
Thank you Second Sky for providing me an ARC and to Jessica for writing one of my favorite trilogies.
What to expect: ✅ Strong FMC ✅ Magic/witches ✅ Prophecy/The Chosen One ✅ Multiple POV ✅ 🌶️🌶️ 1/2 ✅ Is it all that it seems? ✅ Court intrigue ✅ HEA ✅ Completed trilogy

A Crown of Darkness is the conclusion to The Lost Queen trilogy. Wren's final journey is one of epic proportions as she fights to save her kingdom and forge her own destiny.
Following the magical assault on Pelias, Wren is taken into enemy territory. Held far from her home, she grapples with the possibility that the man she loves might harness her dark magic to destroy her own kingdom.
As Wren faces betrayal and heartbreak, her powers are pushed to their limits as she struggles to harness them for the greater good. She must navigate a treacherous landscape of deception and danger, all while battling the shadows within herself.
"A Crown of Darkness" marks the gripping finale of "The Lost Queen" series, a must-read for fans. The books captivated me, especially the dynamic between Wren and Finn. Following "A Kiss of Flame," I eagerly anticipated the unfolding events. The narrative begins with profound heartbreak and treachery, as Wren, Finn, Roland, and Elodie confront the Aurum and Nox, leading to an unforeseen denouement. Wren is imprisoned by the enemy, who plans to use her magic against her realm. It's inconceivable that Finn, her beloved, is implicated. Held captive, Wren questions whether Finn's affections are for her or her ominous powers. His demeanor has changed since they reached his father's domain, leaving Wren to ponder if their love was ever genuine or if her dark abilities have ensnared him as well. The bond between Wren and Finn was a highlight for me, and her abduction in "A Crown of Darkness" was devastating. Jessica Thorne has quickly become a favorite author of mine; her "Lost Queen" series, particularly the third book, was thoroughly satisfying. Thank you Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The third book and epic conclusion to The Lost Queen series. A Crown of Darkness picks up where A Kiss of Flame left the reader. A stunning romantasy series with a set of covers to die for!
This has to be a must-read for fans of romantasy. World building, characterisation, nonstop adventure, and action all create such a gripping, immersive tale. I have to say I was so invested in Wren and Finn all the way. The amount of betrayal and heartbreak in this final book had my heartbreaking, never mind anyone else!
It amazed me how much I got involved emotionally alongside Wren. The pages felt like they were turning themselves as the story progressed. This definitely is a series that doesn't give you a choice but to feel everything. The storytelling is excellent. The twists, along with the conclusion, just put the cherry on the top of this story I didn't want to leave. Even now, I miss the characters! Thanks to NetGalley and Second Sky Books for my gifted ebook to write my review as part of the tour.
ARC Review: 👑 A Crown of Dakrness 👑 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/5 🌶️ 🌶️.5/5
The final chapter in Wren and Finn's journey unfolds. Though the story starts off a bit slow and slightly confusing, it picks up pace midway, launching into a whirlwind of magic, love, and loyalty tests.
Finn is on a mission to find Wren, but Wren is already confronted with a version of him—or at least, someone who resembles him. A twist on the brothers of Ilanthus.
The characters face battles both within and without, with tensions mounting between Nox, Aurum, and ancient forces. Shifting points of view immerse the reader in different corners of this world, where some characters are deceived, others uncover long-buried truths about their past and future, and still others fall prey to the allure of power, resulting in heartbreak and loss.
Elodie stands alone, fighting for the light, while Roland discovers the old magic and the ways of the "free." Are they destined for the light, the dark—or perhaps both? And who among them is strong enough to bear the weight of it all?
If you were captivated by the first two books and are looking to conclude the series with a mix of hope, emotion, and fulfillment, I highly recommend diving into this beautiful finale!
I liked the first book in the series, A Touch of Shadows. I loved the final book in the trilogy, A Crown of Darkness! This book wraps up the story of Wren and Finn and their struggle to find the balance between light and dark, duty and love, in wonderful fashion.
Wren has been kidnapped and is being held captive in Ilanthus, and Finn is the one responsible. Or so she thinks, and it breaks her heart. Wren now has to question whether Finn ever truly cared for her, or whether he just wanted the power of the Nox that she could access and control. Roland and two of his knights seek out the College of Winter, hoping to find help and healing for Elodie, who is trapped in her mind, fighting the Aurum that she was raised and trained to serve. Treachery and betrayal lurk in unexpected corners.
This story, y’all. Wren, while still a young woman, has grown so much since the first book. She wrestles with situations and questions that could have broken her. There were times I wasn’t sure how she would make it past something, and yet she did, time and again. She was bloodied but unbowed, even when she thought Finn was committing the most heinous betrayal of her love and trust. She has to resist the temptation to give over to the Nox completely and find a way to use her dark magic without being altogether lost to it. I wanted to reach in the book and hug her.
And Finn has some growing and learning to do, too. Is the Aurum, the light he has followed and sought to serve as a Paladin, truly the force for good he’s always been taught it was? Is it as simple as light good, dark bad? How can he reconcile the Nox with the Wren he knows and loves?
Jessica Thorne answers all these questions and more in glorious fashion. We see more of the rebel witchkind here, and the old magic has a part to play. We learn more about how the divide between Ilanthus and Asteroth, dark magic and light, came to be. It’s a fascinating world she creates, and she fills it with characters you can love and hate.
I felt like I was bidding farewell to friends when I finished the book. I hated to see it end, but I adored the ending. (Spoiler: If you want a HEA, you get one. I won’t tell you the details, but when the book is breaking your heart, KEEP READING.)
Jessica Thorne has added herself to my list of must-read authors. I’m here for anything she writes. Wren and Finn and Elodie and Roland have won my heart.
Disclaimer: I received an advance copy from Second Sky Books and Netgalley. All opinions here are mine, and I don’t say nice things about books I don’t actually like.
If you’ve been following Wren’s journey from the beginning, A Crown of Darkness is the thrilling payoff you’ve been waiting for! In this third installment, Wren finally steps into her power and takes charge of her destiny, leaving behind the uncertainty of her past. With dark magic threatening everything she holds dear and a master manipulator pulling the strings, the stakes are higher than ever. As she and Finn fight to protect the Aurum (or is it the Nox?), the mysteries of their pasts unravel, pushing them toward an epic showdown that will test their limits. If you thought the first two books were good, buckle up—this one promises to answer the lingering questions since the first book.
Wren is stepping into her strength, and it’s refreshing to see her take on a more proactive role. She’s no longer the naive character from the earlier books, but she’s still young—and that youth definitely shows at times. Wren gets herself into some frustrating situations that feel like she should’ve known better, which kept reminding me that she’s still learning. I just wish the author had given her more complex challenges from which to grow. It felt like some of the scenarios were predictable, given the stakes in the world around her. At times I as the reader felt like Iike I knew what Wren was going to do even before reading her next move.
Leander is still playing the role of master manipulator, using old magic to control and twist things to his advantage. The dynamic between him and Wren was intense, especially as Wren starts to realize how deep his deception runs. She’s not fully prepared for the dark magic he wields, but you can tell she’s starting to piece things together.
The introduction of the Nox adds a deeper layer to Wren’s journey as she and Finn set out to protect the Aurum, all while uncovering more about their past. Finn, as always, is steady and dependable—always there to balance out Wren’s impulsiveness. Their bond continues to grow as they face the mysteries of their world together.
The book hits hard on the classic good vs. evil and light vs. dark magic themes, but with Wren finally embracing her power, I wish the stakes had felt a little more complex for her. Still, it’s a solid continuation of the series, and Wren’s growth (though bumpy) makes it a worthwhile read. If you’re in it for the magic, the adventure, and Wren’s evolving strength, this one delivers!
***Thank you to Jessica Thorne, Second Sky, and NetGalley for allowing me the chance to read an advanced copy for my honest review.** #ACrownofDarkness #NetGalley
Jessica Thorne’s Crown of Darkness, the second book in The Hollow King series, takes readers on a thrilling, emotional journey, filled with dark magic, betrayal, and romance. It’s a perfect continuation of Wren’s story as she faces greater dangers, both external and internal.
The novel picks up with Wren trapped in enemy territory, her fate intertwined with Finn, the man she loves—or thought she did. Thorne expertly plays with themes of trust, loyalty, and the tension between love and manipulation. Finn’s sudden change in behavior keeps readers on edge, as Wren struggles to discern whether he’s still her ally or if he has become a pawn in his father’s sinister plans. This ambiguity surrounding his true motivations adds a layer of psychological suspense that makes their interactions even more intense.
Wren’s internal battle is a highlight of the story, as she fights to control her dark magic and not succumb to the growing pull of power. The castle’s eerie influence on her enhances the Gothic atmosphere, giving the novel a haunting backdrop. Thorne crafts vivid descriptions of this magical yet foreboding world, making it easy for readers to feel immersed in the dangers Wren faces, both magical and emotional.
The romantic tension between Wren and Finn is palpable throughout, particularly as Wren wrestles with her desire for him and her doubts about his loyalty. The chemistry between them still smolders, but the uncertainty in their relationship heightens the stakes, as Wren questions whether Finn is truly under the influence of the dark power surrounding them, or if he’s making a deliberate choice to betray her.
While the pacing is fast and action-packed, Crown of Darkness does a good job of blending character development with plot. Wren’s growth is particularly well-handled; she’s not just a pawn in the political game but a powerful force of her own. However, some secondary characters, while intriguing, could have used more development, and a few plot twists feel slightly predictable, even if they’re executed well.
Overall, Crown of Darkness is a dark, romantic fantasy that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. Fans of Thorne’s work, or anyone who loves a good balance of magic, romance, and emotional complexity, will find this installment a satisfying read that sets up exciting possibilities for the next book in the series.
Thank you so much to the author and the publisher, Second Sky, for sharing an ARC of this book with me on NetGalley!!!
“When you are lost, look for us in birdsong”
“Giving yourself over to old magic is folly”
“In the shadows still she weeps. In the darkness she must wait. The lost Queen who was forsaken, Is bound by Sidon’s fate”
What a brilliant conclusion to a series that took some pieces of my heart and won’t let them go!! The war is about to begin. Darkness and light once again facing each other. Two lovers lost after a betrayal. And a family on the brink of ruin because of powers they can’t control. Once again I fell deeply in love with Elodie and Roland and Wren and Finn’s story and I don’t know what to do with myself now. I felt overwhelmed. After the big betrayal that was the end of book two, it truly felt impossible to recover. But as we get into book three more is happening under eye and we are not supposed to know it until a very specific and strategic moment in the story where everything starts to make sense. The intricate truth of Wren’s magic and the Aurum and the Nox battling one another out and the secret surrounding the Sidon’s family and by extension, Finn is more complicated than ever. And you can’t help but feel enthralled by it all. It felt almost impossible for me to stop reading. I feared I would have lost some important key explanations as to how something was happening or why. And in this confused dynamic that was Wren and Finn, only one light was kept: the strength of Roland and Elodie that after book two felt more fragile than ever. These two truly are my favourite characters !!!! Right now as I’m writing these words, I already feel some nostalgia settling in. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Into the darkness, into the void, into another place and time”
“She was his beloved, his light, his dream: she was the one thing that kept him sane. She was his everything”
I can't believe this series is now over. I adored Wren and Finn's plight in this world against the Nox and the Aurum. I am going to be honest here and say, I think I have done the book a disservice. I bought the audiobook, as I can read quicker this way. But I wished I read them. I loved the narrator and I loved the book, but I think I missed the connection if I had read it. I think I will need to find time to re-read it - and what a great excuse! Mainly because I am gutted it's over already! I wanted more and still do!
What a change these characters have gone through! It was the beginning that got me, I dove straight into this after finishing Book 2 and I was eager to see how Finn and Wren were doing at court. Man, it was dark.!! I couldn't believe what was going on, I thought the narrator was making things up. Then my mind was blown! I had suspected something was coming, and I thought it might be what it was, but the relief I felt when it was!! Cryptic I know! But thank god, that is all I can say!
Second Sky has been banging out some epic romantasy books, and this is one of my top ones! I have some of the older books by Jessica on Kindle and after reading these, I can hear my Kindle whispering to me....or is it the nox?
I love the world-building from this series, I could see the courts, the forest, especially with Finn tied up at the end *wink wink*, everything was so visual and clear in my mind.
I have to end my review with three words...Elodie and Roland *sigh*
What a great way to trap up this intriguing tale! Wren has been through the wringer in this series and I'm so happy that she has found her way to some peace.
Wren has accepted her fate and her power and she valiantly attempts to leave her old worries in the past. But her love for Finn should be her prop but can she trust Finn? He has changed since their last adventure and as much as she loves him, she's not sure that she can rely on him to see things through to the end.
The Aurum & the Nox are pivotal to Wren's fate and as the story unfolds we learn the true history of the divides between the peoples, not just the stories that have been told. Wren may be souped up power wise but she's still a young woman, she still makes mistakes as she doesn't have the experience to fall back but she at least is proactive in her own life and doesn't let others dictate what happens to her.
Leander is a real Machiavellian character, I really enjoyed watching him get what he's owed! He can manipulate events only so far before fate starts to fight back!
Finn and Wren are great partners in this adventure - Finn is steady and dependable to Wren's more impulsive behaviour. But this story really does have layers of tension and deceit to cut through. Not all is as it appears and there will be a few times you an "aha/WTF" moment.
Great world building, empathetic characters and complex storylines that were all resolved and I'd happily read more books set in the same world.
One-word review: Complex Emojis: 🥺🤔💔🥰 Series: The Lost Queen, book 3 Rating: 4.5 🌟s
My Top-Five-style Review:
5. The world-building is a perfect blend of relatability and uniqueness. The creativity of the different magic systems, their symbolic representations, and their integration with the political systems make the story easy to grasp and yet intriguing enough to keep you engaged.
4. The characters are developed very well. They are stereotypical heroes and villains—except for Wren, who is so conflicted and complex that I enjoyed every moment with her.
3. The second-chance romance between Elodie and Roland just grabbed my heart and held on to it. I loved their story and how it developed in this trilogy. I wish I had felt the same about Wren and Finn's romance. They are the main characters, so I thought I should care about their story as much or more, but somehow I just didn't.
2. The ending is not just good, it's brilliant - a masterpiece of storytelling. I won't spoil it, but it's a perfect conclusion that will leave you wanting more.
1. What I loved the most was the story's progression from book 1 to book 3. It started off simple, but as the complexities grew, it developed into a highly intricate story that twisted and turned, captivating and enthralling me with every page.
A Crown of Darkness delivers an emotional and intense finale to The Lost Queen trilogy—full of heartbreak, magic, sacrifice, and just enough hope to leave you breathless by the end.
Wren’s journey has been one of power, loss, and learning to trust her own strength—and this final chapter puts her through her hardest test yet. Trapped in enemy territory, separated from everything she’s fought to protect, and unsure whether the man she loves is still truly hers, Wren is forced to confront her darkness in more ways than one. Her inner strength and resilience continue to shine, even when her world is at its most fragile.
While parts of the book were slower than the first two installments, the emotional payoff is absolutely worth it. Jessica Thorne brings the story full circle with high-stakes drama and moments of quiet intensity that show just how far Wren—and her relationships—have come. The romance is full of tension, longing, and tenderness, with just enough fire to balance the darkness.
And yes—we get our HEA (happily ever after), but not without earning it. I felt this ending. It’s not just a conclusion—it’s a reward for all the heartbreak and trials the characters (and readers) have endured.
hanks to @SecondSkyBooks for having me on the tour for A Crown of Darkness Which is the third book in The Lost Queen Series by Jessica Thorne
Wren has been captured and imprisoned by the enemy who has plans to use her against this realm and her love Finn is also held capacity main her question if there feeling for each other are true or is it just because she’s powerful especially since he’s changed after they’ve reached his father’s areas. I have got to say I have absolutely devoured and loved every minute of this book. This one had me absolutely engrossed and I did not want to put it down. I really felt for Finn within this book and Wren this broke my heart and had me on tethers throughout. The ending has absolutely blown me away and has been a fantastic way to wrap up the series. My heart ached for both Finn and Wren as they faced challenges, making the ending a truly remarkable conclusion to the series. This book was an absolute delight to read, leaving me wanting more.
A Crown of Darkness, the final book in The Lost Queen Series. Book 3 picks up right where the last ended. Everything is not as it seems in this conclusion. Wren & Finn, Elodie & Roland, and the fight between light and dark continue. Experience every emotion as this inthralling series comes to an end. Loved the journey with these characters and the magic system is unlike any other!! "And here she was, taking the form he feared the most, the woman he loved and the goddess he was fated to die for, all in one beautiful shape."
'Wren.. Her name was an entire psalm and his heart sang the harmony. 'This is real and you are everything to me. You have to know that. You always will be whether I live or die. Whether you kill me or not.'
"Our lady will come for you and your life will be hers. There will be no more fear." - "His life was already hers, it always would be."
I really enjoyed reading this series!!! Thank you to @secondskybooks @jessthornebooks and NetGalley for the opportunity to read the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Book three; the last book of this series and I finally got my happy end! This book was a bit slow compared to the other ones and it took me a bit longer to finish. There happened a lot and I think all questions were answered in the end.
”‘Those we love, those for whom we would give everything, they are the ones who can reach us when we are lost.’“
I really loved this trilogy, it was suspenseful, compelling and unpredictable! There were always twists I didn’t saw coming and this made the series so so good! The third book was the spiciest one and I still wish the first would’ve been a bit more like this.
”‘Trust me, Wren. Believe me. No matter how long it takes, I will find you again.’“
Right before the epilogue I was a bit heartbroken about the ending, but with the epilogue came the happily ever after ❤️🩹 This book did not end the way I expected but still, this is what made this whole series so so good and I so wish I could read it again for the first time!
Thank you NetGalley & Second Sky for this ARC! I’m so grateful, that I got the whole series ❤️
I absolutely loved this series! It was definitely hard to put down and each book took me only a day to read. I love that this series is jam packed with all of the great romantasy essentials, but the books are just a little bit shorter. Sometimes it's nice to be able to enter into a fantasy world and not have to commit to 3+ 500 page books! This is the 3rd book in the series and it is non-stop action, betrayal and twists.
I highly recommend this series to any and all fans of a good romantasy with shadow magic, lost queen, found family, dark vs. light magic and what I consider to be a great shadow MOMMY!
Thank you so much to Second Sky Publishing, NetGalley and Jessica Thorne for the opportunity to read all 3 books as ARCs! I purchased them on audible so I can have my husband listen to them now too!
What a perfect conclusion to this series!! I genuinely do not want to ruin this ending for any other readers, so let me attempt as much of a spoiler free review as possible:
Once again, we pick up right where book 2 left off. Our main characters are separated, and there is little hope that they will be able to evade the prophesied destiny that will end in the death of one or more of them, and plunge their world into darkness. Elodie, Roland, Wren and Finn must all fight to get back to each other, and to find some way to save everyone they love.
I was absolutely heart broken at times reading this. At others, I was filled with that sense of impossible hope that reminded me of seeing Gandalf crest the ridge at the Battle of the Black Gate… The themes of good vs evil, of free will vs destiny, are so well explored in this series; ultimately, finding balance and choice is what leads our characters through.
This has been my favorite series of the year so far - it is well written, cohesive, and oh so satisfying at the end. A fantastic series for fans of true fantasy, but approachable enough for those new to the genre. I will absolutely be rereading this over and over again!!
Thanks to the author and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this series!
Thank you Second Sky Books and NetGalley for the gifted review copy!
A Crown of Darkness by Jessica Thorne is the sequel to A Kiss of Flame and final installment of The Lost Queen series.
The third book was whole rollercoaster of emotions for me. Some things confused me int rh beginning before I realised one of the majors plots twist. The first few chapters are confusing but then you get into the action and reality of the situation before everything sets up.
There's a lot of plot twists and revelations, all throughout the book. Every page has essential movement and information to contribute to the plot. There is pain, heartbreak and betrayal and a lot into the insight of the hedge witches. There are new tales and ballads by the scholars that are as captivating as the main sorry.
I enjoyed the new side to Roland and Elodie. They deserve the world. There was a lot of improvement on Finnian and Wren's romance and story.
It was a thrilling and heart-breaking conclusion to the story, there's a lot of hope for spin-offs. Overall, a very emotional read for me. I enjoyed the last book in the series every much and it was be close to me.
I needed to collect my thoughts for a minute after I finished A Crown of darkness, what a crazy ride! Ready… get set… GO! Book 3 picks up right after that book 2 cliffhanger and when I say it’s a race to the finish line, I really mean that the action and adventure barely stops until the end 🤯 Talk about fast paced! I adored the ending, and really felt that Jessica Thorne gave me everything that I wanted for Wren and Finn and more. I ALMOST felt as if books 2 and 3 could have been condensed and combined to create a fantastic duology instead. But then we may not have gotten some of the characters in Crown of darkness that I ended up loving, and their conclusion was a plot twist I never knew I needed! 🥰
On StoryGraph, I gave this a 3.5 since Goodreads does not have partial stars available.
While this book shares some of the same pacing issues, repetitiveness, and unnecessary POVs as the previous one (it really should have been a dual POV in first person!), it had some redeeming qualities that made the story worth reading.
I thoroughly enjoyed continuing the political intrigue and shadow magic! I was particularly appreciative that the tension between Finn and Wren, established at the end of A Flame of Shadows, resolves so satisfyingly. Plus, the final battle was incredibly cool and felt perfectly earned.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jessica Thorne, and the publisher for allowing me access to the e-Arc.
4.25 stars
This was such a great and fun trilogy. The way that it ended was wrapped up beautifully. I was a little nervous that there wasn’t going to be any happy endings but there was. I know that I will be thinking about these characters for a while. There is something about Wren that is so special. She is a strong FMC but also a girl struggling to find her place in the world. She is constantly divided by her divine path and her personal one. I enjoyed this series more than I thought I would. If you are interested in this trilogy then I would highly recommend you give it a chance.
I absolutely ate this trilogy up. I mean: a unique magic system, dark vs. light, first-love type romance, AND second-chance romance?! Jessica Thorne truly delivered with the entire thing.
This book in particular was so incredibly well done. It was a beautiful conclusion to the story, one that made me tear up a bit!! I applaud Jessica Thorne for her character development, even just in this book! The second-chance romance we get a little more of in this final book is one of my favorites. This story & these characters will be in my heart for a long while.
I cannot wait for more books by this author!
Thank you to Second Sky, Jessica Thorne, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my *honest* review.
The end is upon us. Wren & Finn have been through so much but the fight isn’t over yet. Will they ever be together just the two of them? The fight is about to get tougher and many losses will be felt. Roland will do whatever it takes to free his queen he can’t lose her again. But do they deserve a happy ending after everything that they have been through? Queen Eloide will do anything to save Wren she can’t lose her now. But will they be strong enough to fight all their enemies and win? A great way to end the series. Great characters a good solid storyline. Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for the copy. This is my voluntary review.
A Crown of Darkness wraps up "The Lost Queen" series with an emotional and satisfying finale, though it suffers from some pacing issues. The conclusion effectively resolves the tension between Wren and Finn, and the final battle is both epic and earned.
However, the middle of the book drags a bit, rehashing some character conflicts that were already well-established. While it provides closure, the slower pace prevents it from reaching the high-octane energy of the previous entries. It’s a decent and necessary read for fans of the series, but falls just short of a truly stellar five-star finish.
A Crown of Darkness is a tense and emotionally charged continuation that leans hard into betrayal, power, and the painful cost of love. Wren’s struggle with her dark magic and her captivity in enemy territory kept me hooked, especially as her relationship with Finn twists into something far more complicated and unsettling. I loved the way desire, distrust, and control are woven together, making every interaction feel loaded with meaning. While some elements follow familiar fantasy romance beats, the emotional conflict and escalating stakes kept the story gripping, and the ending left me eager to see how far Wren is willing to go for her kingdom and herself.
Gothic magical vibes!! This is the final installment in the lost Queen trilogy. I’m so thankful to the author for letting me arc read her trilogy. I have loved following Finn and Wren’s love story. The beginning had me so angry, as I couldn’t figure out why Finn had changed his tune, but all the twists and turns led to finding the real Finn. Wren’s magic grows and she has to fight with the Nox to not take her over, while also hoping Finn doesn’t get taken over by the Aurum. There are a few spicy scenes. The love story between Elodie and Roland is followed as well, as a secondary romance. And we get the ending we’ve always wanted!!
Great conclusion to a wonderful series. If you like a well paced story and a unique magic system The Lost Queen series is for you! A fantasy with romance and spice giving mystery vibes. Great world building with glossary and chapter epigraphs. Warring kingdoms, light vs dark, hidden identity, shadow mommy.
I was provided with a review copy of the ebook and this is my honest opinion. I gave this book 4 stars. (If I am unable to leave partial stars, I will always round up.)
Thank you again NetGalley, Second Sky, and Jessica Thorne!
A Crown of Darkness was the perfect jaw-dropping, finale to The Lost Queen series. Book 3 unravels hidden truths, the mysterious histories of the kingdoms, the true and heartbreaking intentions of some unexpected characters. The battle between soul bound duty and hearts true love was profoundly moving. The plot twists kept this epic conclusion, thrilling and unexpected. The relationship between Wren, Robin, and Lark took me entirely by surprise. I was so concerned about not getting a HEA, but we got there, and the way in which it happened came full circle and was just a beautiful nod to the first book.
Wow, just wow!

This was a beautiful HEA ending to the series! The plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat and the suspense was just *chef's kiss* perfect. I love how much Wren has grown into skin and power.
