'DC Farmer's urban fantasies bewitch the imagination with supernatural crimes that resonate poignantly with the real world. Prepare for sleepless nights and a lot of snorting (laugher only).’
Rare plant. Apocalypse. Inquire within.
When Kenwyn Wimbush's botanical expedition turns into a run for his life, and Captain Kylah Porter's sinkhole problem starts speaking in tongues, you know it's going to be one of those days.
Toss in a mysterious banished cult escapee, a trainee witch named Miracle (no pressure), and a drug that makes users think they can fly ( they can't), and you've got a recipe for multidimensional disaster.
Who knew saving the world(s) would be this awkward?
‘Brilliant series. Loved all of the books. Will wait impatiently for the next one, characters are brilliant & I do hope there will be more buffing the vampire slayer to come! AMZ review.
‘Once again, DC Farmer draws us into the Hipposync world and keeps us breathless. The entire series has had me hooked - I love the characters and the way he develops them. I love that each book introduces new people to care about but doesn't completely abandon old friends…’ AMZ review.
DC Farmer (as someone else--names changed to protect the innocent) began writing thrillers while the kids were in the bath. They grew up and so did he. Now he writes speculative fiction under the umbrella of the Hipposync Archives.
He lives in Wales and uses quite a lot of that umbrella.
Well that was a lot of fun. Cleverly weaving stories from the past and present, across both New Thameswick and our world, this complicated story, could very easily been confusing, but was instead, easy to follow and full of the crazy characters and daft situations we have come to expect. I loved that we got all the usual suspects from both worlds in this story along with new baddies, allies and surprise appearances. The were moments where I was crying with laughter. The world building is clever, intricate and ridiculous (very Pratchettesque in places), the plot was well thought out and every thing was neatly tied up at the end.
Another great story. With every new book The Hipposync Archives go from strength to strength. Each new character introduced brings so much more to the series. So looking forward to the next in the series.
Now I have found this series It has been added to my list of books that I will read as soon as a new release comes out.
The first couple books in this series are some of my all-time favorites in the urban fantasy genre. Granted, I kind of burned out on that category and haven't read that much in recent years. It's been eight years since I read the fourth entry in this series, and after the first three chapters, I was utterly confused, as none of the characters I remembered had made an appearance yet. Instead, it read like an extremely bleak fairytale. Eventually, our heroes from the D.O.F. (Department of Fimmigration) that specializes in cross-dimensional entities, gradually make their way into the story, and things kind of pick up. However, the "real world" doesn't really factor in this book, and it might as well be straight-up fantasy along the lines of Terry Pratchett's Discworld. The book has a satisfying enough conclusion but had I wanted straight fantasy, I'd have probably read some Pratchett.
Nicely blends threads that appear to be separate by bringing together some of my favourite characters, and introducing us to another female protagonist whose quiet strength keeps the investigation on track. I have to mention the dialogue again as its very British wit shines, and. I did have issues with it being the wrong book in book 5's cover for far too long, but that was an Amazon issue and nothing to do with the author. All I'll say, is that if this happens to you, insist that Amazon gives you the job number, as they didn't raise a ticket until I complained a third time.
These books are so fun! I grew up reading and loving fantasy but had traded that in for science fiction (and the science had to make sense). Discovering this series has been a reminder that fantasy is remarkable and something to enjoy. The author writes with a snarky tone that I love. Find myself chuckling as I read these books. Looking forward to the next one.
DC Farmer has once again crafted a magical story of herbs, foul doings and great adventure. The regular cast are all involved with the addition of new characters. Ned the “post boy” is probably my favourite secondary character and who knows may even get a starring role in a future story. Right I’m off to dive into Book 6 and hope that there will be even further adventures. Similar to STP’s Discworld novels there is plenty of scope for many more adventures.
An enjoyable chase across the centuries with the gang
I don't know whether it was the numerous interruptions I had reading this instalment, but I did struggle at times to link the various factions across the ages.
I'm glad the usual suspects were in this story and Nadia makes a welcome addition to the group.
I'm moving straight to book 6 to try and reignite my enjoyment of this series, which this book is for me, has the least momentum.
Circular timeline worthy of Escher finds the Hipposync Team separated by time as well as space with only magic mushrooms to help. The usual "shouldn't work but it does" blend of thrills, mythology and laugh out loud humour but with a heartfelt attack on child labour
I really enjoy this series and its imaginative combination of urban fantasy, romantasy, and reimagining fairytales. The characters are fun, fresh, and entertaining. I look forward go the next book in the series.
I am loving this series, and especially the brilliant characters old and new! Hilarious last names and places, fantastical creatures, evil villains, what's not to love?
Another highly entertaining story with lots of humour and wonderful characters. An improbable romance with a happy ending was a delight. A great series so far, waiting for the next one.
Gets a whole Lotta love from this reader. Many more characters introduced, complex story with lots of subplot. The series keeps getting more entertaining.
