She had sworn to never fall in love, but one man changed all the rules . . .
Louisa Morgan never intended to fall in love, so when the stuffiest of men offers to marry her for the sake of convenience, it feels like an offer from heaven itself. Things change, however, and the rigid Duke of Boroux begins to wax poetic, doing his best to win her hardened heart. But love was never to be on the table, and Louisa isn’t sure she wishes to play his risky game.
Robert, the Duke of Boroux, tired of society and its demands, decides to take matters into his own hands. Instead of a silly wife only after his title, he will ask a lady who knows her own mind and may just be the perfect woman to become his duchess. But when things beyond his control change his perception of what a marriage should look like, his entire world is turned upside down. Now his greatest struggle is to convince the woman he is falling in love with to love him back.
What will happen when two obstinate people are on opposing sides and neither will relent?
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a socially-anxious duke is in need of a lowly viscount’s daughter that can work a room so he doesn’t have to talk to anyone. One of my favorite aspects of the MOC trope: the faulty reasoning that blows up in their faces, in the best way.
I loved every marriage of convenience millisecond of this. Audra Wells went down my wishlist, and, favorite trope was not enough, she also had to give me my favorite characterization: stoic, icy, repressed, lonely-boy-on-the-inside, and if he’s a duke, even better. And a twofer, not-what-he-seems hero? She set up his catch-feels downfall so well. Oh, I knew I would struggle with this one not to spoil. Ugh, it’s just so layered and such absolute ironic fun how the conflict is flipped *continues to struggle not to spoil*
This author always knows how to write a memorable Regency scene but how these are woven into all the figurative and literal layer-shedding was particularly masterful in this one. The themes of letting down walls and facing fears so we are open to happiness was right on for these two fools in love. Plus stand-out sizzling kissing scenes? That is the sound of no complaints you hear.
Regency fans and especially marriage of convenience fans need it!
Very grateful to the author for an ARC!
This stand-alone but fourth in the series. Releases August 13!
Content notes: Kissing Only. Vague allusion in discussion of marriage consummation. Mention of family death grief. Mild peril and violence.
This is a wonderful marriage of convenience story! I just love Robert and Louisa. Louisa is afraid to fall in love because she doesn’t want to hurt like her mother did when her father died. Robert has been taught to always behave as a Duke. They both are wearing masks and they need to reveal who they really are/feel to each other. I really love how Robert took the first steps in making their marriage real. I also appreciated how he calls Louisa out on hiding behind a mask. I really loved watching them open up to one another. I loved seeing Henry and Violet again and of course the dog, Prince. And that epilogue was just great! Overall a great read and I definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!I read this with an online book club and so so happy I was able to squeeze it in. It will definitely be a top read for me this year. Audra is quickly becoming a favorite author.
Robert comes to Louisa with a proposal, a marriage of convenience. He needs a duchess and thinks she will be the perfect fit. Louisa. She is thoughtful, beautiful, kind, and intelligent. She also has a witty tongue that gets her into a bit of trouble on an occasion, and a mind of her own. I love her fierce independence and fiery, but kind spirit. Her determination .She says all the awkward things, which I totally relate to. I am constantly saying awkward things. So I related really well to Louisa.
Robert. Stoic, serious, a bit like Darcy. I loved his character and how Louisa begins to crack his shell, help him to bring down his mask, much like Elizabeth does with Mr. Darcy.
Their love story was so fun to watch as it unfolds. It's a gentle, slow burn, but whewee, that ending! I swooned, and then cried, and then laughed and swooned some more. That epilogue was so cute. Seeing them with their children was so adorable!
I loved the pond scene with the dog. I was laughing at Louisa's determination, and Robert's reluctance. Boxing lessons-hahaha! Finding him napping in his study/library-swoon. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'm purposefully being very vague.
I highly recommend this adorable, sweet regency romance with a bit of angst. I wasn't sure they would have an HEA, so I stayed up late to finish to make sure they would. Absolutely loved it so much!

“No. You don’t have to chase me. I don’t require your love.” “You may not require it, but you already have it.”
* Inquiring minds want to know what Robert does to unwind… * Well. I still don’t like Lady Jessica * I just know he’s gonna be so tender underneath it all * Oh my gosh not the punching 😂 * I love the simple everyday things that Louisa is starting to love about him * Um okay that kiss 🥵 * Oh no.. she’s breaking his heart and mine * Nooo. He’s so tender and she’s being such a dummy * Ahh that love confession 😍
Ahh, Audra Wells does it again! I loved Robert and Louisa’s story. There was so much emotion and swooning and laughing. You just get it all! Plus who doesn’t love a marriage or convenience that starts to sizzle? (With kisses only, I promise)
Louisa is stubborn and fun. She is independent but also so kind and caring. I loved getting to see her slowly let Robert in and decide to let love win.
And Robert? Be still my heart. I love him! I love his stoic exterior and tender heart. He was so sweet and loving and quirky and I’m obsessed.
I loved the themes of love and loss and how we can’t just let fear of striking out keep us from playing the game.
“Who would have thought that underneath the duke’s crusty exterior, he was a gooey puddle of sweet jam? And she wanted to slather him all over a biscuit.”
“I would rather sit here with all the love in my heart than look back and have nothing to miss.”
Thank you to the author for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Firstly, happy release day to Audra Wells, and thank you for accepting me on your ARC for an Improper Proposal. I finished this book last week and could barely contain my excitement for release day!
Onto my thoughts…I loved the period and setting of this Regency book. Audra Wells easily immerses her readers into the world of ballroom dancing and lavish gowns. I felt as if I was truly there in the moment with the characters because of Audra’s vivid, captivating imagery/elements. I learned more about the Regency period and Audra included tidbits and terminology that expanded my knowledge of the era.
Next, all the characters in the book felt extremely dynamic and developed in An Improper Proposal. From Robert, Lousia, and even Robert’s mother, I felt myself drawn into the character’s minds and desired to learn more about them. Both Robert and Lousia proved to closely hold secrets and personal factors. Audra used expert skill and timing to reveal these obstacles and maneuvered the couple’s personal issues to impact the relationship. Personally, this aspect of personal issues and whether they would be resolved or not kept me gripped to my iPad and I just had to know how everything would end.
Lastly, I loved the romance in this book. Audra managed the timing and slow burn aspects to absolute perfection. I didn’t feel as if the pacing was slow or bothersome; it honestly made me read quickly because I HAD to know. Also, Audra artistically mastered the banter and pining so well. UGH, you’ll have to read it to see what I mean. With the marriage of convenience trope in play, I really couldn’t stop thinking about this book and how it would all end.
I highly recommend this book! If you love regency romance, angst, and a charming sidekick of a dog, try it out today!
“Now,” he said, his voice low as he leaned close to her ear. “Should you happen to swoon at my brute strength, that is another story altogether.” Louisa quirked a brow at him, but the grin tucked into the corner of her mouth gave her away. “You have become quite unbearable, Your Grace.”
Oh this book! It’s wonderful, sweet, touching and swoony! It had me smiling, laughing, my heart was breaking and then that ending had me melting into a puddle! If you enjoy marriage of convenience stories, a spunky heroine, a stoic Duke with a gooey center, then you are going to adore this book!!!
Louisa is bold, outspoken, hilarious and lovely. I loved getting to know her more. The Duke is serious and perfectly proper. Their opposite personalities made for such a fun dynamic! Robert is dreamy and I loved watching him win over his wife! Swooon!
Read for: 🤍Marriage of convenience 🤍He falls first 🤍His nickname for her 🤍Fun scenes 🤍The chemistry and banter 🤍Swoony and touching moments 🤍Loved the character growth and change in both characters🥹 🤍Prince, love that pup 🤍the ending and epilogue
This book is a beautiful conclusion to a series that I love! You are going to love Louisa and Robert so much! It was a joy reading their story. If you’re looking for a sweet regency romance that’ll make you laugh, smile, feel all the feelings, and swoon, definitely pick this one up! I think you’ll love it! Don’t miss this whole series. . . . Thank you to the author for the arc copy. All opinions are my own.
Robert, Duke of Boroux, has gone through life masking his social anxiety with outward terseness and aloofness interpreted by all as natural ducal arrogance. He clumsily offers for Louisa, a few seasons past her debut, who excels in navigating the social scene. Louisa is unimpressed but has her own agenda and marriage to the duke might allow her to hide in plain sight.
My first book by this author. I am impressed by the writing. Louisa's reason is weak in my opinion but I do like the interactions between the main characters. Will definitely try more of her books.
She would have to be very astute being married to this man. He did not give his feelings away freely. Though, neither did she.
She tucked her lips in, hiding her obvious smile. “You are rather adorable when you are nervous.” Adorable? Not dashing? Handsome? Attractive? “Thank you,” he said, like the idiot he was. Perhaps one day he would be able to keep up with his wife, but today was not that day.
His wife already seemed able to read his mind, which was a rather unsettling thought. Yes, he knew she was adept at reading a room, but he had not considered her being able to read him. He had gone to great lengths to make sure he was unreadable. And that’s the way he preferred it.
And he was left with no words—only a gaze that filled him with a faint sense of dread, for he knew what the feeling was. Longing. He—Robert, the Duke of Boroux—liked his wife.
“Though, selfishly, I do wish you would let me see behind that mask.” Louisa’s soft voice washed over him. His eyes floated up to her. “Funny. I was thinking the same thing.” Her gaze snapped to him, and she pinched her lips. “I do not wear a mask.” Like hell she didn’t. “Your quips are a sort of armor, Louisa. A way of hiding what you really feel. I plan to peel every layer back until I find what’s beneath. You can keep laying them down, but the more you do, the harder I will try.”
And he was left with no words—only a gaze that filled him with a faint sense of dread, for he knew what the feeling was.
Longing.
He—Robert, the Duke of Boroux—liked his wife.
✨✨✨✨✨
Just so you all know, I called this match immediately upon finishing An Improper Scheme. And I am so glad I was right!!
When I first read An Improper Agreement it became my favorite regency romance, and Wesley and Clara, my favorite enemies to more couple. That story was crazy good. While I enjoyed the other two books in this series nothing compared to book 1…until this one dropped in my inbox. I don’t think they have been unseated as my all time favorite, but I would say if it was a race it would have been a photo finish. Robert and Louisa are that good together!
Marriage of Convenience is my second favorite trope (enemies to more will always reign supreme), add in a mild grumpy/sunshine, a vow to not fall in love, a “Did you touch my wife?”, he falls first, and a harrowing escape…you’ve got a downright swoon fest!
It was fun and flirty, it had beautiful depth, it was sweet and sassy, with tenderness and slow burn goodness. And that carriage kiss! My, my! Robert literally sweeping the woman off her feet—where are the smelling salts??
This was the perfect ending to a wonderful series.
“Why not choose happiness while you have it? We are not guaranteed anything in life. If you have the opportunity for happiness now, why not take it?”
-Charming and witty Louisa Morgan never intended to fall in love, so when the noblest and stuffiest of men offers to marry her for the sake of convenience, it feels like an offer from heaven itself. Things change, however, and the rigid grumpy Duke of Boroux begins to wax poetic, doing his best to win Louisa’s hardened heart. But love was never to be on the table, and Louisa isn’t sure she wishes to play his risky game…
“You don’t have to chase me. I don’t require your love.” “You may not require it, but you already have it.”
Friends don’t let friends miss out on such wonderful stories. I am telling you right now that, this dear story is one to not miss! I also don’t think there is anything better than watching two wonderful but two completely different people fall in love who in every which way, absolutely don’t want to fall in love!
“Remember you belong here.”
The sparks of chemistry, tension, and banter between Louisa and Robert is simply the best! This regency marriage of convenience romance story is well-written, delightfully witty, and endearing!
“It’s all right to be scared, Louisa. It’s how we choose to navigate that fear that matters.”
While this may be the fourth book in this dear series and can very easily be read as a stand alone, you don’t want to miss out on the rest of the series. They are just wonderful as well! If you enjoy tender moments, delightful humor, all the feels, great adventure, and deep heartwarming and heart wrenching moments, then you will thoroughly love seeing how Robert and Louisa’s story come to be! It’s a story worth reading!❤️
I love when authors bring characters back from previous books! Which is exactly what happened with Louisa and Robert, the Duke of Boroux.
Robert feels the need to find a wife who will support him in society.
Louisa doesn’t want to fall in love and plans never to get married. When the Duke of Boroux offers for her, she feels safe to accept because he has a rough exterior.
Louisa and Robert have to learn how to open up to each other and recognize that falling in love is worth it.
I love that the book began with Robert’s perspective and we get to know his heart from the beginning.
Louisa is a hilarious and outspoken character. I loved her thought processes. “Take that, you pompous man”.
Overall this book was witty, hilarious, charming, and heartwarming. Audra Wells is an auto read author for me and I love this book!
"My life is still happy, Louisa. Because I let love conquer the darkness."
This has truly been one of the best series ever written, in my opinion. Each story gets better, all the feelings, characters...and Louisa and Roberts's story just might be my favorite, though it's a hard close to Clara and Wesley's from the first book. 😅 I love how Prince was a big part in it, how he slowly got close to Robert, it was so heart melting. 🩷 I'm never a fan of marriage of convenience books, it always seems to get out of hand with too much spice, but this was done sooo well, definitely the best book with that trope I've ever read. I can't wait to see what Audra Wells writes next, she's most definitely on my list for favorite authors now! If you like clean, regency romance, marriage of convenience, sweet character books, then I highly recommend this book & series! 🩷
✨Live life to the fullest, enjoying every moment with a heart so open that it keeps expanding and growing✨
*I received an e-ARC copy, all opinions are my own
I loved this book y’all. It lines up there with book one in this series as a favorite. Audra Wells deserves way more hype and love for her historical fiction books. I have enjoyed this entire series and I can’t wait to hear about future books.
I looooooved that Robert was a stoic man who had to learn to let people in. I loved that he fell first and worked to actually show who he was and how he and Louisa could have a good and loving life together. Louisa did frustrate me a smidgen with how stubborn she was being over something that didn’t make total sense, buuut this book caught me at a good time for reading and I let it be. I loved all of the pugilism aspects and the protectiveness, the kissing scenes, the forced proximity, GIVE IT ALL TO ME.
It’s a short and fast paced book that really brings the heated swoon. I loved many of the quotes and general themes. I adored these characters and this one just stole my heart.
“To live a life without love, a heart so hardened that it goes on as it always has. Or, live life to the fullest, enjoying every moment with a heart so open that it keeps expanding and growing."
Oh my heart… I devoured this!!! I mean what’s not to love with a marriage of convenience that pulls at your heartstrings. I love a good slow burn & this one was perfect 🤌🏼 when they finally kiss it was 🔥 & had me melting 🫠. Seriously such great chemistry & banter… I love when the guy falls first & you will definitely fall in love with Robert!!! So many beautiful themes of love, loss, & being vulnerable enough to let people see who you truly are. I love the thought that love is a choice & that living life to the fullest requires us to open our hearts & with that might come pain. But love is always worth it!
“My life is still happy, Louisa. Because I let love conquer the darkness."
Louisa Morgan has sworn to never fall in love after watching her father die & her mother mourn his loss. So when Robert the rigid Duke of Boroux offers to marry her for the sake of convenience, it feels like the perfect solution. They both wear masks & have walls around their hearts to protect themselves. And as Robert lowers his mask to let Louisa in he realizes that love is worth the risk. Now his greatest struggle is to convince the woman he is falling in love with to love him back.
This is the fourth book in the series & I can attest that it can be read as a standalone since I haven’t read any of the previous books. But after finishing this one I have already bought the first book & I’ll be reading them all.
“And the stars whispered her name.” “I choose you. I choose us, Louisa." “I don't require your love." "You may not require it, but you already have it."
“Fate can be a cruel mistress." "Or … Perhaps fate has other plans for us."
I really enjoyed this book, it may even be my favorite of the series. It’s a marriage-of-convenience, regency rom-com, with a smooth and steady pace, the sweetest romance, and the most perfect of MMCs. I loved the humor and the relationship development, and I absolutely loved Robert’s character.
Unfortunately, there were two things that held this book back from perfection for me. 1. Louisa’s fears seemed a bit far-fetched to me, especially towards the end. 2. The ending felt abrupt. This big plot event is introduced with the news article, but then it ends with no word indicating what happens. Why even mention such a non-event then?
Regardless, I loved the book and it’s absolutely 5-stars. I highly recommend the entire series, and am sad to see it end… I’ll definitely be reading more of Audra Wells’ books.
Content: There’s no foul language or sex. There’s pugilism, so some minor violence there, but nothing graphic or excessive. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There is no mention of faith or God
Marriage of convenience is probably my favorite trope, especially for historical romance books. And this book hit all the marks for me!
𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙇𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙙: So much!! I simply adored Robert! He’s reserved and slightly grumpy but I loved that he fell first and hard!! He was so flirty when he was pursuing his wife. And I can’t forget his protectiveness and the “don’t touch my wife” vibes!! Louisa was outspoken and quite funny. I really loved her spunky personality. The romance was slow burn, and I melted every time Robert called her “Duchess” 🫠.
𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙙: Only that this is the last book in this series…
𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨: This book was full of swoony moments and the perfect amount of pinning. It’s the fourth book in a series, but can be read as a standalone. Highly recommended!
What is a series that you absolutely love where the books are all fantastic it's hard to pick a favorite? For me, that's the Improper Agreements series by @authoraudrawells ! I think it's time to do a series reread!
You know what we need more of? Sports regency romances! I don't want to give too much away, just know that's how I feel. This book isn't real heavy on the sports. It just gives enough to where it had that feeling of action that you get from a sports romance.
Marriage of convenience is my number one favorite when it comes to regency romances!! Robert and Louisa were seriously amazing together! Their story was absolutely perfect! I loved that their marriage happened pretty much in the beginning so we got to see them work together as husband and wife through the whole book.
Right from the start Louisa is really against falling in love. But as she gets to know Robert, she feels that start to change and she is determined to fight it. The thing is, Robert is also determined and he will try everything in his power to get through to his wife and understand why she is so against falling in love! After a while, he really gets through to Louisa and starts to help break down her walls! My goodness, I love this fictional man!! 😍🤣 The way he flirts with his wife! 👌🏻
I loved Louisa in the previous book, An Improper Scheme, and I loved her even more from the first thing she says in this book!! She's a fantastic FMC!!
Things I loved about An Improper Proposal - "Duchess" - The reason why a handkerchief is needed -Robert's POV from the beginning - The Lavender room - "My wife" -The library scene -The epilogue 🥰
And so much more!!
Just read this book, guys!! ...Read this whole series actually!! It's one of my favorite regency romances!!
This book can be read as a stand alone but it is best enjoyed when you read the others first, especially An Improper Scheme! 💗
Thank you so much, Audra, for allowing me to read an early copy of this incredible book!!
If you love the marriage of convenience trope, then look no further!! This book has become my absolute favorite of this wonderful series! I wholeheartedly loved Robert and Louisa’s story and could not put this book down!
Louisa didn’t want love. And when the Duke of Boroux proposed marriage to her she accepted knowing it would just be a marriage of convenience. What could go wrong?
Robert wanted a confident wife who knew herself that could help him in society. And that woman was Louisa. What neither of them expected was to start having feelings for the other. But what do they do when attraction and longing wasn’t part of the plan?
Robert, oh sweet Robert! I love a serious, slightly grumpy MMC who shows his tender side and turns the swoon on full blast! Robert had it all.. the flirting, the protectiveness, falling hard, and his little secret which was the cherry on top! He also had the patience of a saint. If nothing else, just read this book for Robert!!!!
Louisa was a feisty heroine who thought she knew what she wanted. She didn’t want love, due to seeing her mother suffer after her father passed. Watching her try to overcome her attraction to Robert was fun. He slowly won her trust and her heart. She was doomed from the start.
This book was filled with so many surprises and flirty, witty dialogue. These characters have my heart and I’m still in a hangover from this book! I can’t love it enough!! Well done Audra!!!
Things I Loved: 💜The awkward proposal 💜He falls first 💜Robert’s mysterious secret 💜“Did you just touch my wife?” 💜Adorable banter 💜He rescues her 💜Boxing lessons 💜The flirting! 💜Prince 💜Anytime he calls her Duchess 💜The Spectacles 💜The Epilogue!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this sweet and swoony romance - Louisa and Robert were everything I wanted in a marriage of convenience plot. Their banter was amazing, and I'm a sucker for a he falls first trope too! Everything ticked all my boxes, and I ate it up!
Marriage of convenience = No chaperone! That’s what we call a dope trope😎 Fave book of the series. Robert, the ever stoic, hand tapping, secret charmer pulled all the way from book 1 meets Louisa, the second-rate dog trainer who bleeds confidence and likes wearing masks. Jessica has always been a thorn, she can go fry an egg ✌🏻
This book was absolutely adorable. I love a good marriage of convenience. Robert is a socially awkward Duke in need of a confident wife and Louisa has no desire to fall in love and risk her heart. I love that they decided to at least be friends and not hate each other. But our Duke falls fast and hard for Louisa as she fights the fall. Their banter and chemistry is the best and I loved the way the story played out, even when Louisa frustrated me at times. I loved this sweet regency romance!
The whole, “I can’t love anyone ever because my parents were in love and my father’s death was too hard on my mom” issue just never works IMO. It doesn’t make any sense. You have an entire family of people who you love and friends who you love and would be devastated to lose, but you draw the line at your husband? I don’t know.
I also just didn’t feel the tension between Robert and Louisa and while I liked Robert and his backstory, I just couldn’t connect with these two as a couple. It was fine, it just wasn’t memorable to me.
Another awesome clean regency romance by Audra Wells!! I liked the marriage of convenience becomes true love. They went on a long journey to get their HEA, but it was worth the wait! I enjoyed the many layers to both main characters and the growth they went through! I highly recommend this book and it was my favorite of the series.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
Somehow I felt this book was the best out of the series! A sweet and adventure-y marriage of convenience to something more story. The premise and interaction between the characters felt like Archie and Bridget at times, but still original enough to be a well-written story.
Lord Drake has needs. He needs his mother to stop harassing him to marry. He needs people to stop expecting him to socialize. It is much easier to keep his protective mask intact if he is at home and only performs his necessary House of Lords duties. But... There is one last who catches his eye. He doesn't love her, but she is strong, confident, at ease in her own skin, and doesn't allow the station of people to change how talks with them (with frankness and humor). He doesn't need to love her. Love means feeling. And feeling means the option of getting hurt. No. She would be an excellent duchess. And they would get on agreeably. So...a year after dancing with her one time, Lord Drake proposes a marriage of convenience.
Miss Louisa Morgan is shocked. How could the Duke, of all people, be making her an offer?! They knew little of each other, and what little they do know is from glances across the theatre or ballroom. But ..maybe that's okay. Her brother has married 6 years prior, and, while he has assured her a happy home with him for as long as she wants it, Louisa would like her own place and to secure her own future. She's not romantic anyway, she tells herself. A marriage of convenience, where both parties respect each other and go about their own, separate lives together would suit her preference perfectly. Afterall, the cold, stuffy Duke was surely a kind man, but not one who would tempt her heart beyond a cordial friendship. Lydia determined to marry Lord Drake, much to the display of her brother, Lord Wood, who hoped she'd marry for love. But, he is satisfied that Lord Drake is not a cruel man, and in fact seems to be willing to meet all his brotherly stipulations. So ... the two wed.
Lord Drake is surprisingly kind and supportive to Louisa. She knew he wouldn't be cruel or demanding, but she hadn't thought he could be so personable. She was determined to draw him out of his shell.
He is a man of meant secrets, though, and when she gets out involves a mistress, she determines to follow her husband secretively. She follows him through the streets of London until he arrives in a less-than-savory part of town. She sneaks behind the nearly windowless building he's entered to see if she can find a way to peek in and catch him at whatever he's doing. She spies on him and finds her is not having an affair, but a man of ill-intent sneaks up on her and her struggles draw the attention of Lord Drake to the alley where he makes short work of dealing with the man.
Louisa has a problem. She's starting to be attracted to and love her husband. Even worse, he's made it clear he's willing for their relationship to turn from cordial convenience to love. And ... He's going to wait for her to be ready! She cannot love! If she gives away her heart, it can be broken either by cruelty or death! She fights against her feelings. She runs away from her feelings. Can she fall out of love with her husband? Will absence make her heart realize how foolish it has been?
Spice is sweet and mild, though a bit more frequent in this book. A good amount of pining, a few conversations about marital consummation and heir production, and a few multi paragraph kissing/ make-out scenes. The kisses aren't explicitly detailed.
I really enjoyed this series and am considering purchasing paperback copies to keep in my "library of friends."
This author totally won me over to the marriage of convenience trope and I’m driving her bandwagon now. Get ready to jump in with her newest release!
Meet Robert. Stoic duke who wears a mask of indifference. He chooses Louisa to be his bride and the agreement is settled. I LOVE HIM!!!
Meet Louisa. Stubborn and determined to keep the duke as far from her heart as possible. GIVE IN!
This is my favorite book in the series. It’s tender and laugh out loud funny at times. It’s heartbreaking and I yelled at Louisa, melted over Robert, and just basked in all the feels. So enjoyable. Robert has all of my favorites wrapped inside. And the ending. And epilogue.
It’s absolutely romantic and watching their story unfold was like waiting for that North and South kiss. You know the one I’m talking about. So I highly recommend!!
Can Robert find love if his walls come tumbling down? Or will Louisa walk away and box her heart from being bound?
Oh my YES!!! This book was so good! I’m not big on marriage of convenience stories but this one certainly hit all the right marks! Robert and Louisa are a new favorite for sure!
That being said, did I want to shake Louisa for most of the book until she saw sense? Absolutely I did, but she’s such a great character and her dynamic with Robert was just spot on. They truly brought out the best in each other, removing the masks they had built up over a lifetime. Both had inner struggles and obstacles but together they could conquer whatever life threw at them.
There were so many swoony moments and I absolutely cheered for each one! Robert is a patient man and he certainly won my heart right from the start. I love where they ended up and the epilogue was the cherry on top! Highly recommend this story!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An Improper Proposal is a love story involving two main characters who agree to a marriage of convenience. One has sworn to never fall in love, the other needs someone to help be the societal presence of the dukedom.
What is it about marriage of convenience and romance? I am such a sucker for this trope! The forced proximity and the...."already married so anything can happen" vibes just get me!
I loved Louisa's outgoing nature and her ability to take down Robert's walls. The chemistry between them is off the charts. Hello swoony kisses! I also enjoyed Robert's hobby piece and the little shenanigans after. Very unique and a fun turn of events. You will have to read to find out!
Brief thoughts: I felt Robert's character arc very changeable throughout the story. One minute he is "stone" faced and fidgety in crowds then extremely flirty and outgoing. I also struggled with Lousia's reasoning for avoiding marriage.
Overall a sweet fun read. I look forward to see what Audra writes next.
✨Book Review✨ An Improper Proposal by Audra Wells @authoraudrawells
Happy Book Birthday to this wonderful story!!! I am so excited for this to be out in the world.
Marriage of Convenience is one of my most favorite tropes and this story DELIVERED! We know a bit of Louisa from An Improper Scheme as she is Violet’s best friend. She is confident and smart, able to navigate social situations with ease. Basically she’s a 10, but she’s sworn off love.
Robert is the tight laced Duke of Boroux. He is strictly proper, rich, and in need of a wife-Ducal duties and such. Basically he’s a 10, but awkward and aloof.
What could go wrong?
I adore stories of love conquering darkness and fears. We all have different fears and need love in various ways, and Robert & Louisa’s story highlights that dichotomy so beautifully.
