Moving to Thornhill, Pennsylvania, after her parent’s divorce wasn’t ideal. Ella Kendall was leaving behind everything she knew: her home, her school, her best friend, and her father. But she did it with a smile on her face because her mother needed her. She was looking for an adventure and was sure they would find in Thornhill, but all Ella saw was a quaint Halloween town and old worn-down house that sat right next to a graveyard. It was okay though, because she didn’t believe in ghost. And after a couple of days in town, she decided maybe Thornhill wouldn’t be so bad. There were nice people in town and the school wasn’t so bad either, if you didn’t pay attention to mean girl comments. Still, everything was going fine until they stopped by an antique shop where they met the town psychic, Gloria, who insisted on reading their palms. Ella was fascinated to talk to the psychic until she gave her a parting gift. A candle. One night while home alone, curiosity gets the better of her, and she does as Gloria said. She lit the candle. Suddenly, not believing in ghost isn’t an option. Not after a guy appeared before her. He couldn’t remember who he was or why he could only be seen when the candle is lit, but some sort of magic pulled them together. Now she’s rushing home just to see him and spending all her spare time trying to help him remember something about his life. But time is running out, the candle is getting smaller, and what happened to Liam is still a mystery. She’s in trouble. The guy she’s falling for will soon disappear, and she has no way of stopping it. Will solving the mystery of his death keep him here or send him to wherever he is supposed to go? She wanted him to know who he was and finally be at rest but doing that would mean breaking her heart. The only thing that can save him is a miracle, but those never happen in real life. People don’t get second chances. Not even if they really deserve them, like Liam. So they just have to make the best of the time they have. Love each other while there is still light and hope that somehow the magic extends beyond the candle.
Thankyou so much for letting me read this book as an advanced copy. This book had my attention from the first sentence. It’s one of those books that have you invested throughout the story. The ending had me releasing happy tears. It was just too good. I highly recommend adding this to your tbr ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 (5 stars)
Have you ever read a book that absolutely kept you up all night because you just couldn’t put it down? This one was that for me! Talk about an emotional roller coaster! I was laughing, I was crying, and I was falling in love! Could not love this book more! The ending had me bawling like a baby for all the right reasons! I’ll definitely be keeping this one around to read again and again! Thankful for the opportunity I got to read this one early and will be waiting for the release in October!
this book had me in my feels. 😭 Imagine moving to a tiny Halloween town 🎃, living next to a spooky graveyard, and thinking, Cool, it’s just a little creepy, no big deal. Then BOOM you light a candle, and a GHOST HUNK appears in your living room. ente the sweet, mysterious, and swoonnn worthy ghost boyfriend. 💕
Ella was such a relatable main character. She’s doing her best after her parents’ divorce, supporting her mom, and trying to adjust to this strange new town. But let’s be real the second Liam showed up, I was hooked. Their connection was Immediate. Their banterrr is top-tier. The way she risked everything to solve his mystery… sooo goodddd
Tropes to love: 🕯️ Paranormal Romance (Girl falls for the ghost haunting her house? YES.) 🏡 Small Town Vibes (Everybody knows everybody, and there’s a psychic involved. Of course.) 💔 Tragic Past (Liam’s story will wreck you in the best way.) ⏳ Race Against Time (The candle’s running out, and I was STRESSING.) 💘 Forbidden Love (How do you date a guy who can’t leave the afterlife?!)
This book is spooky and magical, but it’s also so full of heart. The ending left me wrecked in the BEST way… it’s bittersweet, hopeful, and unforgettable.
My Ghost and the Candle Rating: 🌟⭐️⭐️🌟 (3.5 rounded up) Clean read
Ella has moved to a new town with her mother that is relatively small and a classic Halloweentown for the season. Ella joined her mother at her parents’ divorce when Angela wanted a new adventure. The duo happen upon an unusual antiques store where Ella is given a candle with explicit instructions to make sure she is the first to light it. When the power goes out, she does just this and finds herself in the presence of a friendly ghost - a boy ghost. And there’s an undeniable pull between the two.
This is a YA but even so it felt very young. And it felt doomed from the start with a growing affection towards a ghost (i.e. DEAD person). What starts as a doomed romance ends as a highly unlikely but sweet HEA. I enjoyed the unusual nature of this story but was considerably distracted by how young it was and how lacking in reality many aspects were.
This book was very good. This teen, love, mystery, ghost story was very entertaining. I really enjoyed trying to figure out what happened to Kevin. This story was very character heavy with some plot. The romance was tame, but very plausible and enjoyable, with some funny moments as well.
Ugh this one is hard for me to say too much without giving anything away, but I would definitely recommend it!
This book is a wonderful ghost story. That just may warm your heart. It’s about a young girl from a divorced family who ends up living with her mom. She starts a new school, new life, moves to a new town. As she is dealing with the divorce her mom and her run into this shop. She picks up a candle and takes it home. The young girl now has to balance her school life and the life that was brought back to her with this candle.
A very sweet story for any age group. It has something so lovely about it but it needs the reader to just accept the story line and go with it. Accept that it is an about choosing to be unselfish, about loving with the whole heart, about being understanding even in difficult situations and also about believing in happy endings and not questioning too much.
I love this book so much, I couldn’t put it down it was such a great read for October. It had me laughing and crying. It was such good read for a young adult and thank you for letting me read this book.
This book was enjoyable to read. I love mystery’s. I needed to know what happened to Kevin so I didn’t put the book down till I did. This is a great young adult book. More about the characters than the romance but it’s still there in the background. Even better to read this during spooky season
It was a sweet book, though maybe too young for me. Should be a YA book. Too many typos and bad grammar. The correct abbreviation for you are is you're not your. Oh well, keep at it and keep writing, I'm sure the next one will be great!
