I'm kinda on the fence...

Part of me loved this book. But the other part of me felt like it was really long.

The characters were fantastically written.

And the storyline was good. It seemed to really drag on in certain places, and I would find myself losing interest!

However, I'm so glad I finished!

Tedious

Come on now, it's like saying all men are bad and just because they are in front of you, they are suddenly the worst...... !!!!!! Where is the the anger towards the "mother" ? ?? This plot is silly to me. So desperate to escape and then the ones who help are the villains??? Where the hells bells is the thank you.

Boo boo for her but really, all alphas are bad...?

This was utterly delightful. For anyone who loved Lola & the Millionaires, this is a very similar sweet feeling omegaverse romance.

The FMC Everleigh is trapped in an abusive bonding to a cruel Alpha. She's trying to escape and is rightfully terrified of alphas given the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse she suffered.

Enter Pack Ashe, made of Rune, Cian, and Kylian, who figure out that Everleigh is their scent match.

Tons and tons of care taking and protective vibes as the pack stifles their instincts to provide Everleigh what she needs - a safe place to heal. Slowly they gain her trust as they court her in the sweetest ways, cooking together, dancing, all intermixed with gentle flirty banter that's never too much to overwhelm but just enough to continue to encourage her.

There's overarching plot about omegas in society and how they're mistreated by alphas and a mystery of how Everleigh came to be claimed by her first alpha and who her parents are that unfolds throughout the book.

DNF @ 57%, at least for now. The sad thing is that the dialogue and emotional maturity in this book is amazing. And some references have already come full circle with swoony moments from her alphas.

But I'm so effing BORED.

I'm more than 300 pages into this book and it hasn't even been a week yet! Every moment of every day, every moment of her skittish fear that runs through her mind every time one of them breaths in her direction, or unknowingly steps on one of her hundreds of triggers, is documented, and it's just dragging the entire storyline down. I feel like we've gone to war and come home already, and then I remember it's only like the 4th night in the story ever.

WARNING: There will be some spoilers in this review! I will do my best to keep it light, but I like to add some of my favorite lines. Keep reading, if you dare...

Here is exactly how I felt most of the time reading this book:

It was one of the sweetest books I've read this year, and I loved every moment of it. For a while now, I've loved RH's and Omegaverse stories. This one really stole a piece of my heart. In my opinion, I actually rank this one up there with Pack Darling and my personal favorite, Havoc Killed her Alpha. Of course, I can NEVER bring down Havoc's book from its place as my top Omegaverse story. However, this one comes close.

Here's my current ranking system for my top 5 Omegaverse series:

1. Havoc Killed Her Alpha by Marie Mackay (Yes, I stand by this one being first because who can ever hate Kai and Havoc's relationship perfection? Not to mention that Kai, Bane, and Angel are so hawt!🤤Okay so mayyybe I'll even throw in Caspian because he makes a complete 180 by the end). lol

2. Broken Bonds Series by J.Bree (So this one may be more RH material rather than Omegaverse, but I'm including it because this girl goes through most of the stuff that omegas go through, so.....maybe its not an omegaverse, but its close enough in my book. lol)

3. Pack Darling by Lola Rock (This one may have shocked many of you. You guys may be wondering why in the world I have put this one in the #3 slot, its sooooo goood! And I get it, *shrugs* I totally love it too, but I have to say after reading it nearly three times, I have shifted it down because of book 2. Havoc's story just was chef's kiss in book 1 & 2, same for the broken bonds series).

4. Runaway Omega by Ember Nicole (This one would have been second, if I hadn't added Broken Bonds in this category. It was just that cute, and although Pack Darling is FANTASTIC, Runaway Omega just had a certain flair that I really liked. Pack Darling would have trumped Runaway Omega for sure if I just based it on Book 1, but once again Book 2 really brought down its rating for me.)

5. Sweetheart by Marie Mackay (This was such a great book, but it definitely gets fifth place because of the guys. Yes, I loved the FMC in this one and I found her situation really unique and tragic. However, the guys really pushed her super far for things that weren't even her fault. The only two guys that I found to be 💯 were Ebony and Drake. My favorite being Ebony despite him being a complete psycho 😍). (I think I especially loved that we got to see a little of Havoc in this series).

Well, that concludes my breakdown of why I loved this book and why I placed it at #4 in my top 5 Omegaverse picks.

So why did I like this book in particular?

Where many of the Omegaverse's have Alphas that are either overbearing or domineering or in need of groveling. I feel like this one was so on point with the best Alphas. They were so good for the FMC and I loved how the author made sure that they treated the FMC just right. They made sure that she felt safe and cared for, without rushing the process. It was sweet.

For example, when the Alphas saved their leading lady and they noticed right away that they were abused. Since they knew she was traumatized, they did their absolute best to make her feel comfortable while they found a safe way to free her from her husband. They even promised to never cross into omega territory, which I found very sweet.

I also loved that the guys were each unique in there own way. They weren't like other characters I've read about, nor did they clash or wash each other out. They blended together nicely and were able to take care of Everleigh so well, because they knew each others strengths & weaknesses. They were able to support each other and find ways to balance their strong personalities.

Kylian (Not sure how this was supposed to be pronounced lol), Rune, and Cian were also hilarious! They had a wittiness that didn't seem forced and it lightened some of the strain of having a nervous omega in their home.

Like when Rune tried to make his family's famous recipe. I won't ruin this scene for you guys, but let's just say that I LOVED that scene and how it tied Everleigh and Rune closer together. I also found it to be HILARIOUS!

Cian and his downplay of his wicked dance moves was also so CUTE! When she started catching on, I laughed so hard. 😍 Not to mention that its what brought them together, despite Cian's serious personality.

Last, but not least we have Kylian who had that knack at really listening to Everleigh. He helped to break down her walls that were created by her husband who beat her into becoming his idea of perfection. He also was number one when it came to defending and protecting Everleigh!! 😻

Everleigh was even an awesome FMC. She was sweet and there for the guys. Even though the guys were rescuing her from her troubles, she did her best too to stay strong and do things for them too. It was nice to see an FMC who didn't break down or whine about everything even though she was working through her trauma.

Overall, this book was sweet, but there was a strength to the characters that were the foundation to their relationship. I also ADORED their pack's version of cozy. It was beautiful that the pack did a really good job at being what Everleigh needed to heal. They cared about her and did everything in their power to make things right. For not just Everleigh, but also for all the omegas.

That's why one of the Song Recs I chose for this book review is: Heart They Didn't Break by Maddie & Tae. These Alphas didn't break this Omega's heart or trust, but they built it back up, seamlessly.

So I give this book a 5 🌟s for sure! It really did deserve #4 spot and I hope to see the same pizazz in Captive Omega (Resa's Story). I can't wait to see what happens! Especially if we get to see a little more of this pack!

Happy Reading!

I fucking hated this book and it infuriated me beyond measure!
This book was the most sexist, ridiculous bullshit I’ve ever read and I’m fuming!
This book is everything that’s wrong with young women these days and it was also a huge knock off from another duet book series that I just read called runaway Omega. 80% of this book was an exact copy of that series.
Anyways, back to why I hated this book.
So the leading lady is held captive for 21 years by her mother, she’s drugged. She’s held captive. She’s not allowed to go to school or leave the house at all. If she ever does anything “bad” her mom punishes, or threatens her little sister.
Then she has an 11 months bad relationship with a crappy controlling alpha.
And so the rest of the entire 600+ pages she hates men /alphas more than anything in this world. Yet has no real hate or trauma towards women even though we know what her mother did for 21 years.
She goes on to be the most sexist bitch ever hating all men saying all men are bad and not to be trusted, which is just disgusting and something I often hear nowadays from young women.
She comes across three amazing alphas whom are billionaires and very successful in their own right.
They take her in and rescue her and do literally everything possible to treasure her and heal her and care for her and earn her trust. They risk their own lives, their business that they took forever to build up and the lives of the two family members that live with them. So basically everything .
And all this bratty bitch can do is still be weary of them, being entitled and be fucking rude.
This is the most slow burn you’ll ever read. I would even call it almost a no burn.
The first maybe 60% of the book nothing happens relationship wise or sexual pretty much. Then there’s one awkward heat with the most awkward and uninspired and boring sex imaginable.
And then we go back to nothing relationship, wise sex wise
Only her hating on men for 600 pages and these poor sweet, kind, loving men groveling and trying to make up for shit that they didn’t even do or have a hand in. But they feel they have to on behalf of all the horrible men in the world. Can you believe this shit? Who the fuck writes that???
They go as far as to give up their entire lives everything they’ve built up and keep showering this stupid entitled bitch with everything that she’s not grateful for and doesn’t deserve. I feel so bad that these men had to have her as a mate. She didn’t deserve them at all.
She turned her back on them and basically said fuck you to everything they did for her for a woman who she didn’t even know at all. An extreme slap in the face and again these men are bending backwards to help her out again neglecting anything that has to do with themselves.
And then they give up their business their lives again to make her happy which I don’t even know if it’s possible.
This book made me want angry cry. I was so frustrated and pissed off the entire time reading this book that I wanted to throw my phone against the wall.
Everything about this book was bullshit and if it was the other way around, people would’ve been infuriated, but we have to accept it because it’s a woman against men?! Fucking stupid.

It was very long and I found myself forwarding through and speeding up the audio. Soooooo much internal monologue. Would have liked the secondary suspense plot to be more of a focus.

This borders that.

Overall, a solid read and listen. This is a sweet omegaverse story featuring a emotionally and physically abused omega who escapes a dangerous situation thanks to some compassionate alphas who turn out to be her scent match. We have an omega recovering from trauma and resisting her attachment and heat out of legitimate fear of alphas, three delicious alphas who are gently and patiently protecting and wooing her without much pressure, a bit of a mystery with her past and background and some broader omega verse politics, and some action/adventure/danger. This started off super strong, but it started to drag a bit for me- I think it's just about 100 pages too long. It did start to feel repetetive with the "alphas are bad" resistance despite these guys literally being perfect in every way and bending over backwards to care for her and protect her. If you want a swoony alpha story, this definitely hits the spot. And their grand gesture? chef's kiss. I. liked our leading omega and felt for her for sure, and I liked seeing her claim her own omeganess. And while the narrative did drag a big, I did like giving her amble time with each guy. Ultimately there was just a lot going at the end with her ex alpha, her mom, her sister, the bigger politics, and I was getting a little impatient for her just to lean into her relationship. Which meant that by the time we got to the big finale heat and then the bigger finale, I was not as invested. But maybe I would have enjoyed it more in smaller chunks (i'm a binge reader and i found myself wanting to skim in the middle to get to the meat). With a tighter focus, this might have been a slam dunk for me given the tropes (broken omega, sexual discovery, sweet protective alphas, heroine in danger, etc.). But again, overall it was solid.

I will say the narrative is VERY meta- there is a lot of internal POV here that felt repetetive at times. And in the audio narration, I sometimes found myself not being clear what was internal POV vs. said out loud given the writing style and the narration. (I found this specially with the female narration- there wasn't much differentiation) It's more internal POV driven than dialogue driven. I did enjoy both narrators (even if I sometimes cringe at narrators interpretation of Louisiana accents) but both were charming and emotive- and I enjoyed the performances.

I am curious about the other characters' books that were set up- so I'll check those out potentially.

This was one looooong Omegaverse read and once again all the Alphas basically rule the world. The book touches on some heavy subjects and really focuses on allowing the heroine to heal after being a prisoner for a year. Personally this book got to be a bit too much especially near the end. There was just too much going on and too much drama. In fact nearing the end is really where things kinda went crazy for me as she meets her mom in a single day, moves in with her and gets all mopey about seeing the guys when they are literally across town. I get she wants to help her mother but it was a little hard to believe she would dedicate her life and possibly future to someone she’s known for maybe an hour. I get blood is thicker than water but I expected her to be more wary given her own history. Overall it was a good read, overly sweet at times with some drama but just very very long!

This was good although I started to get annoyed at like the 70% mark. The third act separation was just so dumb to me and made me sad. Also (spoilers) the whole thing with her mom just seemed so rushed. I think the story could’ve benefitted from more of the cozy, sweet scenes LATER in the book, because the last 40% was a bit of a downer. I was so sadddd. Pretty well written for an omegaverse and good plot.

I really liked Rune but Kyllian and Cian kinda blended together for me. Also I was sad we didn’t get a claiming scene.

Do you ever love a book so much that you grow tired of how long it is?

I know, usually when you love a book you want it to last forever. In this case, by the time I got to page 500 I was ready for the book to be over. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an excellent read and one I will be thinking about for days, but at almost 600 pages, this book is way too long.

Nicole Ember is an author who I have never read before, and I was excited to have the chance to read some of her books early! In preparation for her upcoming release, I decided to read book one, “Runaway Omega” to get a better understanding of the world that these books take place in.

As far as characters go, they’re all very well written. They are full of depth and unique, and I never caught myself confusing one MMC with another (which can sometimes happen in OV RH’s). Everleigh, the omega, did frustrate me quite a bit with how she treated the Ashe pack. While she had a traumatic bonding experience, I felt that she was her own worst enemy at times. Further, when Ever was finally ready for her own happiness, she still sacrificed herself for the sake of her mother. Pack Ashe has a hell of a lot more compassion than I do, as I would’ve walked by then.

One thing that stood out to me about Ember’s take on omegaverse was the mating bite. In traditional OV, the bite is not only a visual sign of your bond, it’s also a conduit between partners. While Ever had a mating bite from Lawrence, her old alpha, at no point during the book does she pick up on his emotions or he on hers. Without the emotional connection, I am curious why there is a bite at all. Is it purely for control? Is it seen as barbaric? The only one who benefits from it would be the alpha, so hopefully we get more clarification on this in the next book!

While I have my gripes about the length of the book, I still stand by it being one of the best OV’s that I’ve read this year. I highly, highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a darker, grittier omegaverse!

Super Hot Why Choose Omegaverse

Quote:📖
You can have him, wistful omega. I don’t want him.

Thoughts: 💡
This was everything I could want from a why choose omegaverse romance. It was dark and angsty with an omega that dared to say no in a society bent on taking her voice. The alphas were seriously hot and ready to fight for their omega and have her back. I’m looking forward to the next books in the series.

I don’t know what is wrong with me, but a story about a traumatised wounded bird FMC and 3 MMCs who only want to help her heal/treasure her? I will gobble it up, and this story was basically built around the hurt/comfort trope. (Steer clear if that’s not your thing.)

My only complaint was that although I could tell the MMCs apart (not always a given with omegaverse reverse harems), I would have liked the relationship development between Everleigh and each of her alphas to be a bit more distinct.

Sensitive topics galore though, so check TWs.

Another excellent omegaverse story. This was so angsty and oh my gosh, these alphas were so understanding of Ever's trauma and everything she had gone through. I love that they continually out her needs first, even pushing her to take space from them because it was what she needed.

Couldn't put this down.

!!!!Spoilers below!!!!

Ok so I wanted to like this one, and I almost did. But for some reason I just could not get into the characters. Everleigh annoyed me, like a lot. I can’t really pinpoint why, but I think it’s because there is so much repetition in this story, but especially with Everleigh. She will have an internal monologue that goes on and on and on, just rephrasing the same thoughts and feeling over again, while being uninformative to keep the details secret from the reader. It didn’t really feel like how a person would actually be. All of these characters seem rather 2 dimensional at best. And nothing about the story was new or surprising. Granted, I didn’t actually finish the book so it could have ended well but I simply can’t make myself finish it.

I had a huge issue with the way the plot points of Everleigh getting snatched by Lawrence and auctioned happened. If there was even a chance he was lurking around, why wouldn’t her alphas take action immediately? If my omega was in danger I would have my place wired with enough cameras and lights to put a movie set to shame. Why not hire security to patrol the grounds? Sketchy or bad people hire security all the time. Why couldn’t Rune & co. do that? Why not get her a bracelet or something with a tracker? Get a guard dog or two? And why let Della go back to work for Lawrence like that isn’t a scary security threat? It just seemed like forced incompetence to pointlessly re-traumatize Everleigh.

The editing isn’t great, it took me out of the story a few times. There’s a whole repeated paragraph when Marco and Ever were in the pool.

All in all, do not recommend. Especially since this is the one and done, the next books in the series are different characters. I will not be reading them.

This book was 300 pages too long. There was actually no reason for it to be so long. A lot of the conflicts felt like they could have been resolved faster or cut out all together. Luckily this was my bedtime listen, so I didn't really care too much. I probably would've DNF this if I was paying closer attention. The male narrator trying to do a creole accent was kind of a turn off. It sounded more like Hagrid from Harry Potter but if he was attempting a southern accent from the 1920s.

I couldn’t put this one down! It was so so much more than I was expecting! It’s intense & twisted & there is so much more going on than you know. Plus I loved all the main characters. They all had such different personalities that blended perfectly. Honestly there were a lot of twists that I couldn’t put it down because I just had to know how it ended. The ending was so good!
