Rescue Angels #1

Keeping Laryn

Rate this book
Now that he’s opened his eyes to love, he’s flying high…and losing her could be his greatest crash and burn.

For three years, Laryn Hardy has been a Night Stalker mechanic. Tirelessly working on their choppers, keeping the pilots safe with her skills…and falling ever deeper in love with Tate Davis. But the hotshot airman sees her as nothing more than a sparring partner, and it’s too painful to be overlooked by the man she’s wanted forever, which is why she’s been exploring contract options elsewhere. But when one interested party gets a little too pushy, she decides to lay off the job search. Just in time, too—because out of nowhere, Tate suddenly seems to have realized she exists.

After a recent mission went FUBAR, ending in the necessary destruction of his chopper, Tate “Casper” Davis got the berating of a lifetime from his spunky mechanic. But not before he saw the emotional toll Laryn suffered over his ordeal. In that moment, he saw the feelings she’d been hiding…and the beautiful, talented woman who’s been right under his nose. As if tending to his chopper on the job isn’t enough, Laryn also proves she’s his safe space at home, when Casper finds himself in a vulnerable position he never imagined. Yeah. She’s it for him. Now he just has to convince her.

Unfortunately, the couple are just days into exploring their new connection when they’re deployed halfway around the world—bringing Laryn that much closer to a person determined to learn US military secrets, force her to use her skills against her government…and steal her away from Tate forever.

**Keeping Laryn is the 1st book in the Rescue Angels Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This one was interesting, but also pissed me off. I hated how unseen Laryn felt, to the point she was going to maybe leave her job and part of that was due to her feelings for Tate, which was her issue. But it drove me nuts how after the almost crash, now Tate saw Laryn as a woman and felt like it was time to get to know her more. Pissed me off more that, as Tate got to know Laryn, he and his team realized how much they excluded this very valuable member of their team and didn't see how others did the same. They were in their flyboy bubbles.

With all that being said, I did think Laryn and Tate were good together and I'm glad that things worked out for them, am glad that the team saw how they excluded Laryn and made changes. I was especially glad for these things when the drama at the end happened and it gave Laryn relief knowing that Tate and the boys would be there to help.

Loved this intro into the NightStalkers! It is thrilling, exciting and left me breathless! Getting to know this crew and watching them find their ladies will be riveting. Laryn and Tate have that special spark that made me smile while their story fell into place. I already look forward to the next one. Amanda and Edge.

finalmente i nightstalker (tutto attaccato sennò mi ba@@@)

Meh. I’ve read better from this author. Upset that it took 3 wasted years and an accident for both of them to get off their asses. And then, we’re supposed to believe they’re magical? She almost quit! Had a hard time of this and only read it cause I truly liked his brother’s story. Almost wish I hadn’t bothered. I will continue with the series because this author’s name will get me involved every time but I hope future stories are more engaging and quicker paced.

Casper & Laryn

Casper, aka Tate, had his eyes opened on his last mission to rescue his twin. We met him, and Laryn, in Nate's story & I've definitely been looking forward to their story!

I love the banter Tate & Laryn have throughout the story - even when they're getting spicy, they keep up the banter!

We get to know the new team & enjoy a rescue of some familiar faces. There's a kidnapping & lots of great protectiveness. And the way Tate is all in & determined to let Laryn know he's sorry for how he acted before... 💚 And Laryn!!! BA! Love her lots!

I love the whole team!!

Casper (Tate) & Laryn

I am so happy that we got Blink’s twin’s story! I love their story. I am kind of disappointed that it took Casper three whole years to notice Laryn as more than someone he works with. I don’t blame her for considering leaving her job. I guess that makes this story more realistic. Other than that, I loved everything about Casper and Laryn’s story. There was so much going on. She is totally in the thick of things with her job. It’s a different view point. Loved it! As always!

Loved it, although I could see how invisible Laryn felt during all her life. It's unsettling to be the odd one out, but still, she was comfortable with what she was and that's important. But to think that she was ready to uproot her life due to Tate's lack of interest... just how long does it take for a guy to take his head out of his ass and see what's right in front of him? And once he does it... why is it that suddenly all of his team, who apparently hadn't really seen her either, are all on top of her and her so called defensors? NOW they opened their eyes?
Pfff... Men.

Y'all already know that this book was SUPER FANTASTIC as always. But I've never had so much anxiety while reading a SS book before. Do we get to see some of our familiar men from previous books. OF COURSE! But when the SEALs from Hawaii showed up? I FREAKED!!!! I couldn't concentrate on anything going on around me even though I was supposed to be working.

We met Laryn briefly in Nate (Blink) and Josie's book. She's the mechanic that's in charge of the crew working on the helicopters for the Nightstalkers. And she's had a crush on Tate (Casper) for years. Enough that she is tired of being treated like a sister and ready to relocate to another country with a new contract. But will he finally notice her?

I loved the banter in this book. Casper and Laryn are perfect for each other. And she's tougher than she looks in her greasy coveralls. Beautiful story and excellent opener to a new series. Can't wait for the next book!

This was a good start to the new series.

We met Tate in a previous series and it was interesting getting to know him. Not my favorite male lead by any stretch, but I did like him.

Tate and Laryn have been coworkers for years, but never anything more. Laryn has pined and loved Tate from afar, but as an arrogant pilot, he's never noticed her as anything other than an excellent mechanic. Finally Tate has noticed Laryn and he's quick to let her know.

I liked that this book also went against the norm and discussed male's being taken advantage of. In a very difficult scene , we see the typical scenario switched. It's absolutely something that happens so I like that we didn't go with the full cliche this time.

Overall, a good start!

A very fabulous start to a new series. The two of them worked together for the last three yrs. but only after a mission went sideways did he realize what’s been in front of him. Naturally. Anyway, though it almost takes halfway through the story to get to this point and with them being deployed together and with the thread hanging over her head, it’s about to get tough. When the mission to extract Mustangs team (hear, hear - the Hawaii based Seal team is still active) and Tex gets involved (double hear) all bets are off.
Both the narrators did a fantastic job as well. I’ve listened to this specific duo quite a lot and they absolutely know their stuff and how to generate the perfect voice to get all the emotions across.

Casper and Laryn 🚁

Keeping Laryn is the first book in the Rescue Angels series and I will say I’m a bit miffed because life got in the way of my reading and I wasn’t able to read this as quickly as I wanted to😢 But I finally finished and I loved it, and the hint of who is up next❣️

Laryn has had feelings for Casper aka Tate for years but it’s unrequited love. She starts to think that he will never notice her and so she starts putting out feelers for other jobs out there, thinking it will be too hard to watch him. When he goes in to rescue his twin brother, Nate, in a previous story, he soon starts to see his mechanic in a different light.

Now to ensure he keeps her safe after discovering some of the feeler put out, resulted in not so welcome offers😳

It's high time this author creates another character similar to Tex. By now, I'm sick of finding out that in every damn book, Tex is the only person who people call to find information. Are other people dumb? Bring on some other people for a change. Samn damn thing she's repeating.

Resta se stessa, fino all'ultima pagina.

Good to the last drop; I mean word!

I'd like to thank Susan Stoker personally for writing another marvelous story about a special group of fighting men and the women who love them. Susan has long been one of my favorite one-click authors, mainly because of her empathy for our military special forces. As a former Army nurse and wife of a retired special operator/ sniper, I appreciate the effort and research she puts into every novel. Susan's stories are full of suspense, action, and, of course, steamy hot romance!

Keeping Laryn is the starter novel for her new series, Rescue Angels, which features a team of Army Night Stalkers. Night Stalkers are the latest addition to the military's special operatives—specially trained, elite pilots who operate with stealth and mostly at night. The characters in Keeping Laryn are some of the strongest, sexiest, alpha males Susan Stoker has created thus far. Tate Davis, the male protagonist, is confident and competent, and so well-developed that you are bound to carry a strong image of him throughout the book. Tate embodies many of the traits of team leaders I knew during my military career. Yet, Tate stands out because, despite his dominant personality, he is not afraid to be loving and vulnerable with the woman he loves. That woman, Laryn, his lead helicopter mechanic and the main female character, is smart, independent, and witty. The banter between Tate and Laryn, even during sex, is some of the best dialogue I have ever read. Tate and Laryn are real, relatable, and believable. No one knows how to create three-dimensional characters like Susan Stoker!

Keeping Laryn is more than a happily-ever-after fairytale romance. Susan packs a lot of hold-your-breath, edge-of-the-seat, suspense in this novel. You will be constantly waiting for the next twist and turn in the plot from the first time the lovers meet to the very end of the book. Susan carefully develops her plot, weaving danger and threats into every mission. Her villains are designed to make you wish them dead, and to cheer when good triumphs over evil. And while you may wonder if the hero will rescue the heroine in time, you are convinced that in Susan's novels, the hero never fails!

I am so excited about a new series by Susan Stoker, I pre-ordered the entire series as soon as Susan told us it was available. If you like military suspense and romance, you need to pick up Keeping Laryn as soon as you can! Good job, Susan! I predict another award-winning bestseller!

Sometimes love is right in front of you

I loved, loved this military romance with its perfect balance of love, real life issues, nail biting danger, fun banter, and spicy romance. This heart warming story includes two strong, intense, and passionate main characters who are real, relatable people who have flaws and make mistakes, but are really just trying to just do their best being messy humans. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in, like Laryn. So I love when they finally see their worth and their truth and get swoon worthy HEAs. Laryn is the head helicopter mechanic who works on Night Stalker MH-60 Army helicopters. She is comfortable in her role in a male dominated field but feels lonely at times. Tate is a Night Stalker army helicopter pilot. Tate and Laryn have worked together for three years and when his group of pilots was stationed in Norfolk, she was moved with them. Most of their interactions have involved teasing banter, but Laryn has had big feelings for Tate almost the entire time. When Tate’s helicopter was recently shot down (Protecting Josie) things shifted between them and the journey to their HEA began. To get to there, they’ll just need to be honest while dealing with the potential danger to Laryn because of her expertise. Laryn and Tate’s love story has a little bit of everything and expect to feel all the things - fear, love, anger, tears, joy, and so much all encompassing, nurturing, protective love. Susan Stoker is a master of balancing a story of romance, danger, and personal growth. And while most of us will never be in the dangerous situations the main characters are a part of, the author nevertheless makes who they are as people so relatable and real that it is easy to fall in love with them. I cannot wait to hear what happens next for the rest of the pilots in the Rescue Angels series.

Tate finally loses the blinders and sees who is in front of him

How has Tate missed what an amazing person Laryn is? He's always known she is smart, feisty and sassy, but now he sees that she's not just a hell of a mechanic....she cares. She is emotionally invested in each and every mission, but especially theirs. Yes, she asks about the handling of the helicopters, but she asks about their mission success and their well-being first. Their verbal sparring and banter has basically been three years of foreplay and flirting, and now he has seen that, seen past her abrupt demeanor to the heart underneath, he cannot unsee her. Smart and sassy, but also caring, beautiful, invested, honourable and loyal. She knows that just because something is a little rough around the edges, that doesn't mean it's not worth saving, caring for, maintaining, loving.
I love that she keeps him on his toes, she matches him, challenges him and questions him, but most of all she trusts him and believes in him - who can ask for more?
It is awesome to get to know Tate and his team better, we briefly met them in his twin Nate's book last year, but here we meet the whole team properly and see both the individual personalities and the team dynamic. This promises to be another fantastic and addictive series, a great first book and we are eager for the next.

I really wanted to enjoy this military romance, but ultimately it fell flat for me. The story hits all the same beats I’ve seen in other Susan Stoker books — the strong, competent heroine who’s secretly in love with the hero for years, and the oblivious alpha who suddenly “realizes” she’s amazing only after a dramatic event. In this case after 3 years he suddenly realizes she's the one for him. It feels like a rinse-and-repeat formula rather than something fresh, and that predictability drained a lot of the tension for me.

The constant reminders that both Laryn and Tate are the best at what they do became tiresome rather than impressive — it reads like tagline after tagline instead of real character development. The plot itself is extremely straightforward: Laryn is put in danger and Tate rescues her. There weren’t many twists or surprises to elevate the story.

Unfortunately, the Kindle version I read also had noticeable typos and formatting issues, which pulled me out of the story more than once. Between the predictable plot structure and the editorial issues, this one just didn’t land for me.

Very intense but oh so good!

Laryn has always had a crush on the NightStalker pilot Casper. Despite him only ever really seeing her as the mechanic of their helicopters.

And when years pass & he still never really notices her, she starts to question if she needs to move on to something different.

But after an incident that leaves one of their helicopters in need of repair, Casper starts to realize that he has been overlooking Laryn for too long.

He starts pursuing her & realizes he really likes everything about her. But he finds out that someone has been threatening her to come work for them & it makes him uneasy.

And when they end up in the same part of the world where that person is, makes him really uneasy.

And then she is taken & Casper is doing everything he can to get her back.

There was plenty of suspense within this book that definitely had me on the edge of my seat. And the romance was perfect. These two were quite the match & I loved it.

Absolutely amazing job!

A well oiled machine

Tate/Casper and Laryn. This new couple was teased in another series when Nate (Tate’s twin) was rescued with Josie. This series is the Bight Stalkers and I am so excited for it as their exploits have made it in a few other Susan Stoker books and I loved them! Their relationship is interesting as it is kindergarten crush worthy u til Tate realizes what is right in front of him and of course Laryn doesn’t believe him. She is fierce and capable and has an amazing skillset that she excels at. The danger is immediate and the depth of bad actors it took to enact the danger was mind boggling. Tex made a timely appearance and we also got to see Mustang! The other Night Stalkers were a hoot and I loved how they all touched base with Tate about his intentions as their effort to protect Laryn. An easy and great read! Ready for the next and well the rest of this series!

Brilliant, sassy and unique

I absolutely loved this book!

In all seriousness, I love everything Susan Stoker writes. BUT, Laryn is an awesome character.

Laryn Hardy is a contractor for the US Army, but she’s not just any contractor. She’s a helicopter mechanic! That in itself is awesome, but how she banters with the pilots she looks after everyday made her one of my all time favs.

Laryn has had a crush on Tate AKA Casper for three years while she worked with his team of Night Stalker pilots, but he never seemed to notice her. Now, something has changed and Tate finally sees what’s been right in front of his face the entire time.

Tate is definitely an alpha male but he’s also considerate and caring at the same time. I loved how he treats Laryn and how he wants to protect her at all costs.

This book was awesome from start to finish and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

The h is a helicopter mechanic for the Army. She's not in the Army anymore but an independent contractor. She traveled with a
specific crew as their personal head mechanic. When she met the H, who is a pilot, it was love at first sight for her.
They've now known each other for 3 years and have gotten into the friend zone area where they tease each other and are
comfortable in the other's presence, but don't talk about
anything personal.
". . . she was the most sought after helicopter mechanic in the
country. Even internationally. She'd even gotten serveral
very lucrative offers in the last couple of years to work overseas
for other countries' governments, but she'd turned them
all down. Because of a stupid crush."

The H is 34 years old and she's 35.

Overall it was a good story. Enjoyable enough to read once and will have me read the blurbs of the other books in this series.

Laryn Hardy is the top mechanic for the Night Stalkers helicopters. She has worked for the army for three years. Tate “Casper” Davis is a Night Stalker and after barely coming back from a mission, he finally sees what’s right in front of him. Laryn has had a crush on Tate for years and has been putting feelers out for another job because she can’t stand being nothing but a buddy to Tate. They work a lot but he wants to date her. When she tells him about a phone call she received from a man, he becomes her bodyguard. Altan Osman is from Turkey and wants Laryn to work on the helicopters he has and make them as operational as the U.S. But she turned him down and he plans to get what he believes he deserves. When she’s kidnapped, Tate and the other Night Stalkers will stop at nothing to get her back.

Loved this story. It will absolutely have you on the edge of your seat. Steamy. Action. Friends to lovers.

A woman helicopter mechanic and a night stalker helicopter pilot. Perfect pairing. Perfect storytelling.

Loved hearing Erin Mallon be one of the narrators on this one as she’s a favorite of mine.

These characters are written brilliantly but who’s surprised. It is Susan Stoker of course. A female mechanic who is well respected and extremely knowledgeable and talented. She’s crushed on Tate “Casper” Davis for years never thinking he’d return her feelings. But Casper finally realizes everything he’s wanted is right in front of him. Laryn Hardy is everything he wants. But danger lurks. I swear my heart was in my throat once again because of Susan’s beautiful writing but Casper and his team come thru of course.

Loved this first book in Susan’s new series and loved that TEX was a part of it with other special appearances too. Fabulous story and I highly recommend the audio book.

Love Laryn and Tate. I love her strength and confidence and the trust she shows in Tate.

They have worked together for three years. She is the Night Stalkers mechanic and that is all he sees her as. As she puts out feelers for a new job but realizes tat she doesn't want to leave. One of the people who contacted her about a job in Turkey doesn't take no for an answer and threatens her, Tate steps up to protect her because he finally pulled the blinders off and really sees her now. But what happens when she gets kidnapped right from under his nose? Will they find her before something happens to her?

Great Banter!
Laryn Hardy has loved Tate Davis for years! As the mechanic for Tate’s Night Stalker helicopter, Laryn keeps Tate and his team safely in the air. It’s a thankless job; for three years, Tate has squabbled with her like an annoying sister. When she can’t take any more, Tate’s eyes are open to the remarkable woman in front of him the whole time. Just as they explore their new relationship, Laryn is kidnapped while on a mission with the Night Stalkers, and Tate will stop at nothing to retrieve her.
Tate and Laryn never stop their banter, even after they’ve found love, which is so much fun!
Erin Mallon and Aiden Snow give stellar performances in this exciting start to a new series from Susan Stoker!

Strong female in a position usually held by men. That also brought its own problems because the h was in love with the H. He finally has an epiphany and sees her as a women. His team realizes the same and she is included in the boys club. Keep in mind she’s worked with this team for 3 years.

We know who the villain is and of course he causes drama. I did enjoy the suspenseful ending and great setup for next story.

Lovemaking outside of marriage, very descriptive and bedroom door wide opened. As with with type of genre, crude words used.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romantic, and a lot of steam. I can’t improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)
