Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village

Rate this book
Christmas trees decked with fairy lights twinkle in every window, carollers fill the streets, and charity worker Hannah is gearing up for the season of giving in the little Irish village. But it’s not just the cold winter winds that are chilling her spirits this year…

When twenty-three-year-old Hannah Kelly finds out that the beautiful rolling hills around her hometown could be destroyed by a new building development, she rushes back to Emerald Bay to rally the community. But arriving home at The Shamrock Inn, there’s another shock in store… the handsome and sparkling-eyed lead developer, Tom Flynn, has checked in as a guest. Is this Hannah’s chance to save the village?

Hannah tries to convince Tom the beautiful area needs to be even though he’s as stubborn as the donkey in the local nativity play. But when sharing that this is also where her late grandfather first met and proposed to her grandmother, his gentle hug as she sobs makes her wonder if maybe they aren’t so different…

As sparks start to fly, Hannah decides to invite Tom to experience the joys of a Kelly Christmas Day. When Tom’s hand catches hers as they peel brussels sprouts together, Hannah’s cheeks start to blush. But it turns to a flush of anger as he ducks out to take a call – about work starting in the spot she’s fought so hard to save. And the voice on the phone is strangely familiar…

Can Hannah figure out who is behind Tom’s project and stop the plans? Or will following her heart be the key to saving the little Irish village and Christmas for everyone?

Grab a mulled wine, curl up by the fire and enjoy this beautiful winter romance, perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Maeve Binchy and Debbie Macomber.

Hannah Kelly arrives in Emerald Bay to do everything possible to stop a developer from ruining the quaint village she loves. Upon arriving home at The Shamrock Inn, Hannah meets the eye catching developer, Tom Flynn who happens to be a guest at the Inn. She sees this as an opportunity to save the precious village. She has plenty of time to convince him to change his plans. As Christmas Day approaches, Hannah invites Tom to spend Christmas with her family. As Hannah and Tom enjoy the day together, her happiness comes crashing down when she discovers his plans are to proceed with the development as expected.

Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village, written by author Michelle Vernal is a wonderful story of family and friends. I loved the banter and the characters touched my heart. Vernal is great at pulling the reader into the story. I loved the Irish Village at Christmas with its twinkling lights and snowflakes falling, it was exactly the escape I needed. As the Christmas Carols were playing in the village stores, I felt like I was actually there. This rapid read was enjoyable and put me in the Christmas spirit. I recommend this story to kick off the season.

'Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village' is a heartwarming story following Hannah Kelly, a headstrong and contrary environmentalist and her quest to preserve her village's heritage. It is the fifth book in the 'Little Irish Village' series but is also completely accessible as a standalone.

Hannah Kelly, the middle sister in the large Kelly household, works as an environmental campaigner away from home. When she hears that her precious village Emerald Bay is threatened by a large organisation attempting to build on conserved land, she leaves for Christmas early and takes matters into her own hands. At her parents' village inn, she meets Tom, a businessman from Dublin, here to stay for most of the festive season. As she struggles to win her campaign against the new proposed development, Hannah and Tom lock heads, but not without other family issues joining in, too. Not only this, but the ghosts of the past- and present- threaten to open holes in this quiet village and loving family.

I enjoyed this book; it was fun and cosy and I really enjoyed getting to know the Kelly family. However, I felt that the plot lacked drive in the middle of the book. It was also slow to begin and the description of the book was not marketed to reflect the actual plot. Whilst the description emphasised romance, the main driving force behind this book was actually Hannah and her journey in warring with the planned development and discovering herself. Indeed, the "romance" element did not start until the last 25% of the book (and there is no such scene which has two characters peeling brussels sprouts together). I also felt that the Christmas atmosphere was lost in the middle and at times I was frustrated with the main character.

All this being said, I adored the speech of the characters and could hear the accents so clearly. At times, the setting descriptions were truly beautiful and I loved the focus on the famine cottage which gave it a sombre atmosphere. Kitty Kelly is also the best person ever!

Overall, a firm 3* read. Thank you so much to Bookouture for providing me with an advance reading copy. I look forward to its publication!

Good addition to the Emerald Bay series. This is the story of Hannah, the middle daughter of the Kelly family. In previous books, Hannah stands out as the environmentally conscious activist member of the family. The book opens with Hannah's first foray into protesting for a cause at the age of eight, then moves on to the present day. Hannah works for the non-profit group Feed the World with Bees, where she also has a massive crush on her boss, Dylan. When Dylan shows her an article about a huge garden center planned for her hometown, Hannah rushes home to rally the community. She doesn't expect to find a guest staying in the house. Tom Flynn, an architectural project manager from Dublin, was sent to do the advanced work for the proposed development. Hannah takes an instant dislike to him because of it.

The initial meeting between Tom and Hannah was hilarious, leaving Hannah at a slight disadvantage. In addition, she is so focused on her mission that she comes across as very judgmental. I liked seeing Tom call her out on it. They are thrown together on several occasions, and Hannah discovers that there is more to Tom than she realizes. I liked Tom. He is charming and has a sense of humor even in difficult moments. Neither Tom nor Hannah expected the sparks that flared between them, complicating their interactions. A few bumps along the road to their happy ever after are mainly caused by Hannah's distrust. Fortunately, Hannah's journey includes some self-examination and rethinking of her priorities. I loved the scene of Tom and Hannah at the cottage as they finally cleared the air. The ending was sweet, and I loved seeing the whole family together.

I love the Kelly family, and this book is full of Kellyisms. The teasing among the sisters is hilarious, but they have each other's backs when support is needed. Kitty Kelly, the grandmother, shows a different side of herself when the proposed development intrudes on a special place in her history. I loved the history she revealed and how it brought her past to life for the sisters. There is also a bit of intrigue involving an American woman who appears to be stalking Hannah's mother, Nora. The resolution of that mystery was a shock to everyone.

The village residents add humor and depth to the story. I especially enjoyed Eileen and how she roped Hannah into helping with her latest project. The scenes with the teenagers were funny and moving.

Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village is the 5th book in The Little Irish Village series, but only the second one I have read. I had no issues reading this as a standalone story. Hannah Kelly is an environmentalist and has fought since she was a young girl tying herself to an evergreen to keep it from being chopped down for the town Christmas Tree. Now there is an area in her own village in danger of being developed, so she heads home to the The Shamrock Inn, where she grew up. There is a visitor staying there, hired by the development company to check out the feasibility of the project. Although there is chemistry there, Hannah can't want a relationship with Tom, the man who is set to ruin the green space around them. As Tom and Hannah spend time together while she tries to convince him to abandon the project, she shared some family history with him and also finds out that someone else is behind the project. Can she rally the community and convince whoever is behind the development to leave their village alone?

This is a wonderful story of community, family, friends and the importance of saving the environment. I loved seeing Hannah in her comfort zone, working in the inn and spending time with family and friends. She had feelings for a co-worker that weren't reciprocated, so I was happy to see her get away from him and realize maybe he wasn't right for her. Hannah's grandmother was delightful. She shared stories and family history with Hannah that had her taking stock of her own life. There is a mystery that intertwines with the story regarding a woman who has been skulking around Hannah's mother, as well as someone who might have ties to the area behind the development. I had some suspicions, but hadn't figured it all out. I was frustrated at times with Tom's behaviour as he seemed to flip flop about his feelings toward Hannah. This is a sweet story that all comes together nicely in the end. I began listening to this one, but the audiobook had a glitch so I read the rest. The narration I heard was nicely performed by Aoife McMahon and if Audible gets the audiobook fixed, I would recommend this format.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read "Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village" in exchange for my honest opinion.

The story starts out with 8 year old Hannah Kelly tying herself to a pole with a placard to "Save Ireland's Trees". When she grow up she moves to Cork City where she works for Feed the World with Bees. She is crushing on her co-worker Dylan but he doesn't seem to know she exists. Her family owns the Shamrock Inn. Hannah has 2 older sisters - Imogen and Shannon and younger sisters Grace and Ava who are twins. We have met the Kelly family in other books and I still will state that the best character is Napoleon the knicker thieving cat.

Hannah is back home in Emerald Bay because she has heard that a one stop-shopping centre with a Christmas Tree Farm is to be built - destroying an abandoned farm with a famine cottage on it that is very important to her family. Though at the start she isn't aware just how important.

Tom Flynn arrives to scope out the site for an investor and is staying with the Kelly family in Room 5. Hannah takes an instant dislike to him for working for someone that would destroy a piece of history.

There is a bit of intrigue in this story as an American woman in a red coat appears to be stalking Nora. What she has to say will shake the family and rewrite their oral history. The reader will learn a lot more about the Kelly family to add to what we know from previous books.

Hannah soon sees Dylan in a different light after a violent protest. And questions whether there is something else out there for her that she could be doing to help others.

Ms. Vernal has beautifully woven the past and the present together seamlessly. The stories are easy to follow and all the characters are ones we have grown to love from the previous books. Hopefully there are still many Kelly family stories to tell.

Okay let’s just say that I love holiday romances I love them could read them the entire year.
But because I do O have read many and many of them. So I might be a bit more critical because i either love it or it’s a meh for me personally.

To the book now.
Hannah works for a small non profit company, her boss shows her an article about the village she grew up in.
The article shows that a company wants ti buy ground in the village to build a mall and a Christmas tree farm.
Hannah can’t let this happen so she goes home earlier than planned to hopefully stop this. Because that ground is sacred to the community.
Will Hannah stop the build? Or will she lose her heart in the process?
The architect assigned to the project is just her ideal guy, if he weren’t trying to ruin the town.

Now my thoughts I really love the concept of the story. It really grabbed me in the start and i was into the book.
Also the first meeting between Hannah and the architect. Chefs kiss and the earlier moments you could feel it sizzling.

But the she found out who he was and she became a real judgmental character. It actually quite annoyed me.
It also got really slow and i had to barrel trough the story.
Then at like 65-70% it picked up again.
And did the story get good again that I couldn’t put it down.

If we don’t count the middle part I would’ve given it 5 stars, because i also got a little emotional with grandma’s love story. And I was laughing quite a bit.

Lets end this with the saying that princess Lea was the star of the book. For a little chihuahua she got a lot of spirit and fight in her.

Saving Christmas in the Litle Irish Village by Michelle Vernal is a heartwarming read that is perfect for cooling weather as we hurtle toward the end of the year.

Hannah Kelly is passionate about the environment, all creatures and her home town, where her parents own a pub, the Shamrock Inn. After a devastating breakup, Hannah returns home to her family, including her four sisters and their hilarious cat Napoleon who has a penchant for pilfering pants.

Hannah has another reason for returning home. She has heard that a local farm with a great deal of sentimental value to the community is going to be demolished to make way for a retail park. Hannah's conservationist heart is fired up to prevent this travesty,

Then there is Tom Flynn, an American who has come to stay at the inn. He claims he is the grandson of the families beloved elderly neighbour Maeve Doolin, who Hannah will protect at all costs

Despite the rocky start, Hannah and Tom become close as they spend time together, albeit because Hannah initially wants to suss him out and find out if he is really who he says he is. However, Hannah discovers that Tom has a secret, a secret that is very likely to put the kaibosh on their budding romance

A delightful story interspersed with great humour and likable characters, definitely a book to add to your fall/ winter tbr!

Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and Michelle VErnal for this lovely ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

Life in Emerald Bay is always entertaining with the Kelly family. There are plenty of siblings to carry the stories and a general feeling of joyousness and warmth in the Shamrock Inn. This festive novel centres on Hannah, who has a social conscious and is heart and soul living for projects which will make the world a better place. The environment is her passion. The fear that a conglomerate will take over part of the village and build a huge garden centre spurs her to come home early, to scupper the plans. It seems she is a chip off the old block where her gran is concerned and she is not the only one ready for a protest.

When Tom appears as part of the planning process, Hannah leaps to all kinds of conclusions about him and spends most of the book discovering that he has hidden depths. There is so much warmth and family love in the story, as Christmas approaches. The sisters are all fiercely loyal to each other and I do enjoy their banter. in the background id a family mystery to solve. The villagers add all sorts of humour and in all, this is a joyful and heartwarming festive tale.

In short: enemies to lovers with a Christmas twist
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book

I adore the books set in Emerald Bay with the Kelly family and I'm quite sad that this is the last of the series. (I think)

Michelle Vernal has a lovely writing style that keeps you thinking that you are emerged in a warm hug. The community that she creates with the cantankerous and the chilled, the nosy and the nice, the do-gooders and the dears, never fails to raise a smile while I am reading. I like the way that her characters aren't all on pedestals to be Disney princesses but they are real with flaws and stubbornness and dodgy episodes galore with their knickers.

Hannah, I must admit, wasn't the favourite sister due to her seemingly alien views about most things and her ferociousness to get her own point across. This book in her point of view wasn't bad though and it was good to get to know her from the inside out. I really enjoyed knowing more about the family history and some of Nora and Kitty's backstory.

I'm going to miss visiting Emerald Bay and hope that there is a new series to sink my teeth into soon.
My thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Michelle Vernal to the opportunity to read this ARC, all opinions posted are my own.

This book was promoted as an addictive, cozy holiday romance. I was expecting a sweet story and not loads of sexual tension from the very beginning of the book. I stopped at 5%.

I love the Kelly family and I enjoyed this story. This boisterous family of five sisters leaves me with such a warm feeling! They feel like friends and I want to be part of their circle. Add in the quirky, caring residents of Emerald Bay and I am ready to move there. This book is about Hannah who wants to change the world without destroying it. When there is a threat to the village she heads home to try to stop it. What she finds is family ties to the land being threatened by a developer, an uncomfortable revelation about her crush, and an attraction to the developer’s representative who is different from what she expected. Now she has to figure out what she wants for her life. It is a part of the Little Irish Village series but can be read as a stand-alone, but once you read one you will want to spend more time in Emerald Bay with the Kelly family.

Aw, and just like that, the final Kelly sister has her happy ending.
This has been a lovely series set in the stunning Irish countryside, following a family who love, laugh, cry, and show us all how a family should always come together for each other.
I loved seeing the evolution of Hannah in this from eco-warrior to role-model. It was brilliant to see her recognition of toxic behaviours and journey to a better life.
Of course, this series wouldn't be as fun without the colourful characters contained. In this one, Princess Leia played a huge part and provided many comedic moments.
This is a super easy book to race through and is light, heartwarming, and full of hope. Making this the perfect read to curl up with this christmas.
I've enjoyed this series immensely and look forward to seeing what comes next.

Hannah embarks on a mission to save her hometown from building project giants whilst keeping the true spirit of Christmas alive. Tom may be the one standing in her way but there is more to it than see the eye and Tom is much more compassionate than Hannah thinks. Spending so much time together is blurring her view of him and there are definitely some sparks flying. This book is full of so much Christmas spirit and excitement that it has me jumping for joy. I love how alive the story felt and the characters are hilarious and had me giggling so hard especially Hannah and her underwear incident. I am still laughing now while writing this. I enjoyed everything about this book as there is everything to like and it really is a heartwarming romance with plenty of happiness.

Hannah returns home to save the local historic paupers cottages from being revamped into a snazzy garden centre and Christmas tree farm. She’s secretly in love with boss Dylan a dynamic activist who gets the job done but by any means. Her parents have let a room to Tom who is working on a secret project in the bay and once Hannah realised what it is she vows to save the cottages. What she doesn’t expect is to really like him. Then the past comes back to completely uproot everything in the family and Hannah knows there will be a pride to pay.
This was lovely and I really need to read some of the other books in the series too.

The last of 2024's Christmas books, all of which I really enjoyed. I got to feel a part of several families, all in Britain. This one was the Kelly family, in Emerald Bay, who own and live in a pub. The first book I read by Michelle Vernal was "Christmas in the Little Irish Village", and focused on Shannon, one of the daughters. This one follows that one chronologically and focuses on Hannah, who is outspoken about ecology and works for an organization, "Feed the World with Bees". She finds out a developer is buying a piece of property connected with her family and build a garden center and Christmas tree farm, and she tries to rally the town and her family to oppose the project. Of course it isn't that simple, and there is a handsome man involved.

As a lover of Christmas and holiday romance, I was thrilled to dive into "Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village" by Michelle Vernal. This charming tale immerses readers in the festive spirit of a quaint Irish village, filled with warmth, community, and a sprinkle of romance.

The story centers around a determined protagonist who embarks on a mission to save the village's Christmas celebrations.

While there were parts of the plot that felt a bit predictable, the feel-good vibes kept me engaged throughout.

✨ small town romance
✨ Christmas spirit
✨ opposite attract

✨ oooo. I struggle to read this book I got to be honest. It was a lovely plot covering Ireland in a small village with full of life but the romance in this is quite repeated?! I mean I felt like it’s the same plot over from the author other book. Probably it’s just me, but this book is okay:)

✨ the story of opposite attract together is okay, not much love for the characters but it has an edge on each povs.

✨ Thankyou @bookouture for the opportunity to read this book for a honest review.

This was a really cute, Irish Christmas story!
It had cozy Christmas vibes and a bit of a love story.
I liked that Hannah stood up for what she believed in and wanted to make a change in the world.
I did, however, find her very annoying and judgemental at times.
I loved her bond with her sisters and her family.
Princess Leis stole the show. Everyone loves a chaotic pet!
I would definitely recommend this!

Another charming story set in Emerald Bay and I
wonder if this is the last book as Hannah was the last sister to meet her Mr Right. I would love to see a crossover between the O’Maras and the Kellys as we know that Maureen and Nora are cousins but completely differ in ent characters so it could make for an interesting storyline.

When I first requested this i didn't realise it was part of a series, however it can 100% be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this and loved watching the relationship grow between Hannah and Tom. Although I think Kitty is 100% the best part of this book. I will be going back and reading the previous books in the series now.

I was delighted to read this Christmas catch up with the quirky Kelly family. There was certainly no dull moments as Hannah tries to save their village. I did find her slightly annoying to start with but I suspect it was meant to be that way. A warm hug in book form which I recommend for a fabulous Christmas read.

Saving Christmas in the Little Irish Village: An addictive cozy holiday romance. Michelle Vernal

I have loved reading this series of books about the little Irish Village, it reminds me of growing up in our little Shropshire Village. The characters were so realistic and many so funny that it was a laugh out loud book too. Hopefully some more might come along to read later. 💕

Heart warming

This is a little festive gem of a story. As Hannah returns home in order to save a beautiful part of her town and ,as she discovers, her family history from developers, she had no idea how much her life was about to change. Beautifully written, I love the stories of the 'Little Irish Village '.
