Kenya’s Word is another great book about teaching self love my favorite quote from the book is ” Black is not a bad word, black is beautiful.” The story is interesting to children’s and includes a rich thick plot. This story is written from the point of view of Kenya a young black girl who’s sent on a hunt of misinterpreted instructions and finally getting it in the end. A bias I might have in this story would be towards black children with afros because I see myself.

A young girl realizes black is beautiful. Nice illustrations, nice story. A bit on the long side -- didn't need quite so much back and forth about her favorite word to get to the point. But I did have to laugh at the taking-the-tarantula-to-school part... and the ensuing chaos. Teachers apparently don't like big, fuzzy spiders at show and tell. (Don't ask me how I know.) :-)
