Peridot has fallen, taken to the one place a magick-born does not want to end: the Descendants' headquarters. Alone, she must learn to embrace her magick and bond with the ancient being inside of her to break free from captivity.
With the treaty unsalvageable, the Descendants' plans hold dire consequences for all who remain loyal to humans. The odds are stacked against them and with the threat of new arrivals from overseas, Euan and the Resistance have no choice other than to prepare to make a stand and fight.
If Peridot can only reach them in time, she could be the saviour the Resistance so desperately needs. Elsewhere on the mainland, Vallaeartha searches in vain for her daughter, desperate to reach her before what she fears most comes to pass.
If Peridot should fall into the wrong clutches and fail to control her magick, her powers could seal the fate of the Earthlings world, once and for all.
Ray's passion for writing comes hand in hand with a passion for animals and the environment which prompted the creation of the Earthlings trilogy. Earthlings is Ray's debut novel with a prequel to follow shortly after the trilogy is complete.
It is Ray's dream to open The Peridot Animal Sanctuary and Wildlife Reserve in England and that dream inspired the Earthlings trilogy to life.

I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Lovebookstours.
Dominion is the second explosive book in the amazing Earthlings trilogy by the amazingly talented Ray Star. This book was just as good as book one and started straight after where book one left us. We learn more in this book, and the story gets explained and explored more in Dominion. I found the new characters introduced to be fantastic additions to the story and especially loved Buck. Each character is cleverly connected to one another, and the story reads from multiple POV. Peri searches for Euan and to free the Humans. The Descendants run New England, and the Earthings and the Resistance are trying to find a universal and peaceful way for both animals and humans to not only survive but coexist alongside each other. I love how the author has created such s thought provoking story where the human race is now experiencing the life and situations animals go through in our world of today. It really does open your eyes and makes you think! I honestly can't wait for the final installment, but at the same time, I don't want this trilogy to be over!
“We are elementals, we ask of no one. Be strong, we are born of the stars, never forget that”
Dominion kicks off straight after the events that unfolded during “Earthlings” (this must-read series and one that must be read in succession to understand the plot and storyline) and we are thrust back into the dystopian world of a new England that is run by the Descendants, whilst the Resistance and the Earthlings are trying to find a peaceful way for animals and humans to coexist whilst also fighting for their survival.
This was a series that caught my attention in the first book, and this sequel has just smashed my expectations through the roof, this book is just phenomenal, I could sing its praises all day (and I have already been doing so!) I was completely gripped and engrossed into the world and just hoping and wishing for Peri and Euan and the resistance to come out of their harrowing situations with their lives intact, especially the huge action sequence at the Descendant headquarters, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!
This book is told from multiple perspectives, we spend time with Peridot, Euan, Ela, Alan, and some of our amazing new characters – the ancient ones (no names as *spoilers darling*) who I absolutely love and I am so excited to read more about them all in the next book – which is my highest anticipated read now, especially after that ending! Each characters development has been brilliant, and I love the way that they are all connected in one way or another, plus the found family trope throughout this book really shines and I am completely there for it. The way that the author has been able to provide the ancient ones with their own personalities whilst residing in their respective Elemental was fantastic, I really love the way that Peridot and her ancient one had conversations and showed separate personality traits depending on who took the lead charge in her body, it was so well written and highly captivating, plus the storyline with Terran was beyond emotionally charging, I absolutely adored his character and his speeches he really felt like such a rally and beacon for a lot of the resistance fighters in this story and his character was developed and revealed fantastically well!
The plot in this story is the same continuing storyline that has been developed in book one, and is just explored more in Dominion, with in all honesty more harrowing and graphic scenes, there were a few times I had to put the book to one side as the scenes were too much for me to take, especially Jack’s chapter, that broke my heart! And the chapter from the Master’s perspective, just like in book one, this is a dystopian world in which humans are experiencing the same situations that animals in our real-world experience (you know animal testing etc) so to read it from an alternate perspective really does make you (and the reader) think! Plus, I love that the inclusion of Magick is still at the forefront, and we are watching as Peridot is trying to learn to control her powers, and you get a real sense of her still being an young adult and experiencing so much pressure on her young shoulders but still a willingness and want to learn and make the world a better place, I really feel like her character could resonate with a lot of people.
TW: Violence, death of multiple animals, humans and infants, animal and human cruelty, confinement and mutilation
This book has left me speechless. Dominion is book two in the Earthlings series and, holy moly, it's even MORE incredible than the first book in the series!
Let me tell you, Ray Star has absolutely CRUSHED it with this book. The first book was great, but Dominion? It's on another level entirely. The banter is *chef's kiss*, and the multiple POVs keep things fresh and unpredictable. The world Star has created is deliciously dark, twisted, and so addictive you literally cannot look away.
In Dominion we dive right back into the action where Earthlings left off, and our girl Peridot is in some serious trouble. She's been snatched up by the Descendants - basically the last place any magick-wielding hero wants to end up. Now she's got to dig deep, tap into her inner magical badass, and bond with this ancient being inside her just to have a shot at breaking free.
But wait, there's MORE drama! The treaty? Totally toast. The Descendants are cooking up plans that spell doom for anyone still team human. Euan and the Resistance are looking at some seriously long odds, with whispers of new threats coming from overseas. They're basically gearing up for the fight of their lives.
Here's the kicker: Peridot might just be the wild card that could save everything. She's got to reach the Resistance in time, or it's game over. Meanwhile, her mom, Vallaeartha, is tearing the world apart trying to find her daughter before something REALLY bad goes down.
The stakes? Astronomical.
If Peridot can't keep her magick in check, she might just accidentally doom the entire Earthlings world. No pressure, right?
I'm not exaggerating when I say this series is an absolute MUST-READ. If I could shout from the rooftops about how good "Dominion" is, I totally would, but it's really cold out, so I'll leave my adoration here instead. Seriously, drop everything and get your hands on this book. You can thank me later!
"...the earth needs feeding too." It's no surprise that I loved this book as much as the first one, maybe even more, because we got to know more of the changed world and how animals are taking over the human world, how they are treating them same way, and somehow reading those parts was heartbreaking and still poetic. Morbid in a way, but I was devouring page after page and tearing up, and smiling, and being all emotional all over again. This story, the magic in it, the themes and the characters, everything is my favourite thing! My sweet Peridot, she's so beautiful in her bravery and empathy, even though she thinks that latter is her weakness, I still love her that way. "... you've got to get your humanity back or we don't stand a chance of saving her." I have so many quotes saved up, so many relatable and quotable things that I wish I could just put them all here, but there's some major spoilers and I don't want to spoil anyone. There's this mythical entity involved that made me so happy to read about, somehow it got even more intense with that inclusion and the essence of magick became all the more intricate and ancient. "Circle of life they used to call it. Well now they're experiencing that themselves." Some very strong and moving things said by an animal that show us that no matter who is doing what to whom, all these done to anyone is heartless and horrible. After all the things all the animals have endured from us, they can now repay us, and still, some of them are so kind and forgiving. They all, every single one of them deserve a peaceful world and here I am crying again because I just love these books so much. And that ending! Good thing that the third book will be out in a few weeks, because that ending left me speechless, I need more!
OMG! All the stars for this one. ALL. THE. STARS!!
I love this series. Book one, Earthlings was fantastic, a top read of the year for me but goodness me, book two, Dominion blew me away.
Dominion picks ip right where Earthlings ends and had everything I loved from book one, and then it stepped it up a WHOLE HEAP. This is definitely one of my favourite series of all time!!
I adored everything about it. The author has created a brilliant dark, twisted, magickal dystopia and combined SO MANY great aspects to bring together what can only be described as a one of the best book series I've read.
The great banter, awesome characters including two awesome familiars and the brilliant plot concept are all expanded and developed in Dominion and given an even darker twist.
The whole idea of animals being in charge (led by an evil chicken called Alan) and farming humans to breed, and eat, is a scary, startling concept. Combined with magic and mythical entities this sounds like it should be a lot to take in. But it works. So well!!
I Love Peridot and Euan. Their friendship and the animals in this. Like the animals have the best personalities and are so well written.
My only worry? I KNOW I'm going to be BROKEN by the end of book three.
A MUST READ SERIES!!
Thanks to Love Book Tours and the author for my gifted book. All thoughts are my own.
I am loving this fast paced and intense fantasy series. This carries straight on from book 1, Peridot has been captured, her mother is hunting her down, and Euan is fighting with the resistance as they tackle the threats of the enemy and trying to free the human captives. I loved seeing Peridot's powers and confidence develop, and her connection to her mysterious and dangerous ancestors. Her elemental powers are volatile though and harnessing them is still out of her control. She is at war with herself in trying to help or to avoid harming innocents. Her conflict really shines through, especially when it comes to talking about her mother where she still feels betrayed and vulnerable. I really enjoyed the additional povs in this book too and seeing new characters perspectives. Terran's backstory was emotional, and I loved seeing more of his character and abilities, including his heartfelt speeches. The Dystopian world is harrowing, the conflicts are violent and tragic, and the need for magick to win the war against the animals, and for humans survival is paramount. The journeys of all the characters are full of danger and drama, but their paths weave together by destiny and fate. I loved the additions of mythological ties in this one, and am intrigued to see what's in store for book 3.
Earthlings is such a good series! I was gripped right from the start and I just had to know what was going to happen. I really recommend reading the series in order otherwise you may struggle to follow what is happening.
This book picks up right where the first one ends. Star is a fantastic fantasy writer and I love the descriptions of Magick. Peridot is such a genuine and realistic character and I just can’t wait for the next book!
I received a gifted copy of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.
Eek!! Book 2 picks up seamlessly where book 1 left off. About two-thirds of the way through, I found myself thinking, maybe it's just going to be a Duology, I can't see how there can be more to come. Well!! How wrong was I! Roll on book 3! There is more upsetting content in this one. In this dystopian world, however, it works. It's still terrifying to think of, though! Great new characters introduced and plenty of writing time for those we have come to love in book 1. The last few paragraphs shook me! Give me book 3 like yesterday!
Brilliant second book in series, told from a number of perspectives the tension builds as Peri tries to find Euan & free the humans. More beautiful characters are introduced - Buck being one of my favourites.
There is more magick, makes me want to go outside & stare at the moon absorbing power from the elements 😂
Even more thought provoking than the first book.
“Unnatural light floods my irises making me squint, I catch a glimpse of rickety light bulbs hanging from the ceiling along the corridor that leads to this room. Sunlight would be welcome but I glimpse no windows. Feel no fresh air, hear no bird song or rustling leaves from outside. Everything here feels unnatural “
Imagine the above, this is everyday life for around 90% of pigs in the U.K.- the first time they feel outdoor air is the day they are taken to the slaughterhouse. Imagine never feeling the sun on your face, the earth under your feet, instead feeling cold concrete and slatted boards, no fresh air, no nature… when your natural instincts are to roll in mud, run through fields, snort & forage.
You can certainly understand why the chickens, pigs & cows revolted in this series!
Thoroughly absorbing & captivating book with a serious message, freedom for all
Earthlings was a book I read in November 2021. When I looked up when I’d read it I couldn’t believe it was so long ago so I decided to do a quick reread before starting on the next book. Dominion picks up immediately after Earthlings so my wait to find out what happened to Peridot (Peri) was nearly over. Dominion starts with Peri being taken to The Descendant’s Headquarters and she is still yet to find Euan. Dominion is the next step in Peri’s journey.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dominion and the action was definitely stepped up in this book. When we are introduced to Peri in the first book she has lived a sheltered and protected life away from the main land. So she doesn’t know what’s going on in the outside world. That is until she meets Euan. When she leaves the safety of her home and ventures to the mainland to find Euan she realises the true extent of the world that she lives in. The Peri that we meet in Dominion has grown up quickly and gained a lot of life experience in a very short period of time. She experiences for the first time how humans are treated. She sees it for herself but also suffers cruelty by the hands of those in charge. Despite all this the one thing that spurs her on is the hope that she will find Euan. Dominion is the story of three characters: Peri, Euan and Vallaertha. Peri is determined to find Euan and defeat The Descendant’s. Euan has escaped captivity, is on the run and is working with The Resistance. Vallaertha upon discovering that Peri has left ventures to the mainland to find her daughter before those that Peri encounters uncover the true power that Peri holds. Peri has come into her own in this book and become a stronger character but she still doesn’t understand the true extent of her magic or how to control it. Peri has always been told to keep her magic a secret and not to reveal her powers to anyone. She initially conceals who she is until she realises that the only way to defeat The Descendant’s is to reveal who she is to those around her. Peri has to take one of the biggest steps she’s ever taken before and put her trust in strangers. Her powers of healing are growing and she uses this power to heal those around her. Seeing her yield her magic illustrates that she will be a very powerful Elemental. The surprise for me in this book was the character of Vallaertha. In Earthlings Vallaertha is pictured as an oppressive, over protective mother who is hiding a lot from her daughter. My opinion of Vallaertha did change in this book because she was trying to protect Peri from what was out there and wanted to make sure that Peri had the guidance that she never had especially as Peri doesn’t understand how to control her powers which are still growing.
This book also ending on a cliff hanger and it was a jaw dropping one at that so I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.
I liked that everything set off from the end of earthlings so that you don't miss out on anything, I also like the little recaps throughout to tell you important bits of information without being repetitive. My favourite parts were finding out who Peridots elemental is and her having a chance to bond with them and fully come into her powers and being her own person away from the island. I also love that we got more chapters with Euan and how cute Euan and Peridot are together and how comfortable they fit together as well as seeing how Euan has grown and interacting with people in the compounds. There were also a few twists and things being revealed which kept the story on edge. I think this is a great middle part to the trilogy because it shows the growth from book 1 and the lead up and major points such as the rescue to book 3. It also had an emotional impact with all of these Build ups and the friendships found along the way, it was also nice learning more about the past of elementals and I think the characters are defined well in their personalities and who is likeable and who isn't and perhaps leading to more changes for them.
A Mesmerizing, Thought-Provoking Fantasy Masterpiece
Mind-blown doesn’t even begin to capture my reaction to the powerful narrative in Dominion! This sequel takes everything that made Earthlings exceptional and transforms it into something truly extraordinary.
The plot evolves beautifully, introducing new characters on both sides and expanding the world-building in ways I never saw coming. I couldn’t put this book down. The story is so immersive and compelling that I found myself questioning everything, from my views on food systems to the nature of good and evil.
The characters are brilliantly and masterfully developed. Peridot, her friends, and especially her complex, often frustrating mother (Valleartha) are portrayed with such depth and authenticity. I love how the author humanizes the characters, revealing their flaws and vulnerabilities. This makes their growth feel earned and relatable rather than forced. The fraught, multifaceted relationship between Peridot and Valleartha is one of the most compelling elements of the story. I couldn’t help but feel both sympathy and frustration for Valleartha—something I rarely encounter in YA fiction.
Dominion also delves into heavy, thought-provoking themes around food systems, animal rights, and environmental issues. The chickens and cows serve as poignant metaphors for blind hatred and the scars of long-term abuse, adding a chilling layer to the story. As the book explores slaughterhouses, it takes a darker, more graphic turn, but it’s done with purpose—infusing the narrative with raw emotion. The magical system, centered around the elements, is unique, exciting, and evolves in a way that mirrors the characters' growth. Peridot’s journey is utterly captivating.
Dominion is more than just a fantasy novel. It’s a beautifully written, deeply impactful story. I can’t wait to see where this trilogy takes me next!
So book two picks up right where we left off and let me tell you what an opening! The Resistance may have won the battle (barely!) but they have not won the war, at least not yet! Peridot has been captured and must learn to control her powers as she is just possibly humanities only change of survival! Along with her friends and family of course! I loved this book, this story just keeps getting better and better! I never thought these words would come our of my mouth, but I really hate Alan the Chicken, well technically he's a cockerel but you know what I mean! So Peridot is part of the Resistence, bonded with her familiar, has found her best friend, and has been captured by the Defendants! What else can they throw at Peridot and her friends? Well let me tell you that was just the beginning! Talk about a rollercoaster ride from the first to the last page! And my goodness what a cliffhanger! I loved the frist book and I'm glad to say this did not disappoint, the plot twists continue and are, if anything, even more twisty! The character development is great and we learn more about the backstories of some of the side characters, and I do love a great side character! Ray is a great story teller and I cannot wait to read the conclusion to this series, but also I don't want it to end!
This book starts right where Earthlings left off, and you fall (pun intended…) straight back into the action with a bang! Peri and Euan are on their respective missions, trying to reach and help the Resistance in their battle against the Descendants and that pesky chicken called Alan.
I loved this sequel, it more than held up to my expectations after having loved the first one so much. It is action packed, emotive and for me graphic enough that you don’t forget the parallels and the wider meaning, but not slapping you in the face with it. I thought the character development was well done, especially Peri’s with her Elemental and the maturity she shows in trying not to lose control of her Magick and what that would mean for everyone around her. I still have mixed feelings about Val and she very much still annoys me, but I absolutely loved Ela and her sheer determination to escape and reunite with her son.
A very solid, enjoyable, action packed read that I cannot wait to continue in the next book!
For anyone who has read and enjoyed Earthlings, the first book in this trilogy, Dominion will not disappoint you. It begins where Earthlings left us, and the pace never lets up, leaving you gasping for breath. The author Ray Star has expertly woven in an imaginative cast of new characters, including the wonderfully depicted Bayard, whose story I found particularly moving.
Ray has done a superb job of combining great storytelling with a powerful real world message. I can't wait for the third and final part.
This is Book Two in the Earthlings Trilogy. I feel like you need to read Book One first, as this follows on where Book One finished. You won't be disappointed with either of these books. This book brings more characters to add to the ones you love in the first book. Each one of the characters bring their own abilities and experiences. Each one of the characters is connected to one another. There are many surprises along the way. This book explains and explores deeper into Dominion. The transition between these book was seamless
I devoured Earthlings in a few hours, so desperate was I to continue this wonderful series.
Seamlessly continuing on from the previous book, Dominion's dystopian world is being run by the Descendants and the Earthlings are striving to get the animals and humans to live together along with the help of the Resistance.
We reconnect with some familiar faces and some new. Just how cute are Peridot and Euan together? And Buck's pretty awesome too!
Told from several different POV, Dominion is an exciting addition to the Earthlings trilogy, full of magick, fantasy and excitement.
I've fallen under the spell of the series and can't wait to read the third and final installment of the trilogy.
Dominion is book 2 in the Earthlings series and here we pick up where book 1 left off.
It's a brilliantly dark tale, and the concept, for me, is quite unique. A world in which animals rule humans and farm them to breed and eat is quite a scary one, with an evil chicken leader to boot.
It's a dystopian world, with mystical and magickal aspects and it was nice to see Peridot's confidence grow as her powers also grow.
It was also good to see new characters and to see the world from their points of view.
There's drama, there's danger, there's violent and quite harrowing conflict in the war of humans vs animals.
But will the humans succeed in their battle for survival? Be sure to pick your copy up to find out.
So all in all, this was a brilliant follow up read. It's fantasy with a twist and I'm sure it'll have you staying up long after you should have gone to sleep turning the pages.
It's a story of friendship, loyalty, and kindness, and the writing itself is just beautiful.
The pace Is just right, and I read this in three sittings.
It was great to be back with Peri, Freyja, Phoenix and co!
I started book two like I had never left the world created by Ray Star. Once again I found I could not put this book down and just wanted to keep reading.
There was also plenty of new characters to meet and get to know. I was one hundred percent invested in the characters and the story too.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this fab series!
An entertaining sequel to Earthlings. I was so looking forward to the continuation of Peridot and everyone's journey and it didn't disappoint. I still find the self-discovery and maturing of Peridot both in life and in regards to her powers fascinating.
I loved how it picked up exactly where it left off and threw me straight into the action again. Seeing the individual stories start to combine ready for a big battle was gripping and I struggled to put the book down.
I did find there was less action then the first book, and less comedy (it felt like the middle of a trilogy) - but it had a great and shocking ending.
Overall, of course I need to read the next book as it's so addictive - I still hold out hope for something that happened near the end too.
*I received a complimentary copy of the book from LoveBooksTours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
When I say I dived straight into this book as soon as I finished book one im not joking, Star left us on the precipice and I had to know what was going to happen next. With this book we got to dive further into this story and explore more of New England. When I say this book is even more gripping than book one im not kidding, I couldn't look away from this for even a second and found myself not putting it down until I finished the whole thing.
I really enjoyed that we got to see this story unfold through multiple POVs and get to really know some of these new characters that are of course done so well that at times they felt realistic to me. And like the first book we get to see some amazing character development from these new characters. Action packed and filled with adventure, this is hands down one of my favourite fantasy's ive read this year. This newest addition to the earthlings series is phenomenal and if you're like me and love a good dystopian fantasy with a unique magic system then you need to stop what you're doing and read this series asap! I cant wait to see where this author takes this story next.
Dominion is book two in the Earthlings trilogy and it quite literally begins where book one ends, so I would highly recommend reading these books in order as it will be difficult to pick up what has happened if you don’t. As anticipated, having read the first book, Dominion is a fabulous read. I love the way the story unfolds, being told from different perspectives, and the author does this really well. The details shared about key places, and not just characters, allow me to create such vivid imagery, which is a beautiful gift for the reader. Whole scenes play out in your mind as you read the author’s well chosen and well written words. This book also sees new characters join the story and I really enjoyed seeing the impact they had on the storyline when they were thrown into the mix. I enjoyed this book so much and I read it almost in one sitting. I’m excited for the next book as I know it will be a great read. I highly recommend this book. My thanks to the author and to Love Books Tours for gifting me this book. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
Peridot and Euan are back! Dominion follows straight on from book one (Earthlings) and your straight back into the action.
This is a great follow up book and just like the first one it's hard to put down. You learn more of Peridot's powers and this time her mum's back on the mainland 😬
Not only a great fantasy story featuring my fave theme of witch vibes but also a very eye opening account of switching the roles of humans and live stock...it really gets the mind doing some serious thinking.
I love that the book features talking animals and in this one you meet Buck (featured on the cover) - and in a way their personalities are just how you'd imagine them to be.
I don't want to give too much away and I can't wait to get stuck into book three 😁
Dominion by Ray Star. Book 2 of Earthlings. Omg. It's like I've never been away. Book 2 starts where book 1 finished. It was great reading about Peri, Phoenix, Freya, and Euan. I love this series. I love the book cover. I signed up just on the covers alone. I loved the setting. I love how everything is described. It's like I'm there watching everything happening. I love anything with magic in it. I am looking forward to the next book. I would definitely recommend this book.
Oh my! What a gripping read, I couldn’t put it down. Eye opening! Cannot wait to get stuck into the final book! I need to know how this story ends! Such a beautiful read! X
I’m bawling, sobbing, every emotion I could possibly be going through, i have just gone through. I was gripped by the first chapter and didn’t want to put it down through out. I bought this book aswelll as the first book from the author at a local fete (potter street). These have easily become my favourite books by far, I cannot wait to read the third book! I wish it was out now. I don’t know how I’m going to cope not knowing what happens!
Oh wow! What an amazing, exciting and brilliant story and second book in the Earthlings trilogy! As Peridot rushes to save Euan from falling to his death, Phoenix and the others are struggling with the aftermath of the battle where many have fallen. Soon Peri wakes up in the Descendents headquarters, alone and unable to tap into the energy of the natural world. Deprived and imprisoned she soon begins to learn more about herself and the ancient one that resides inside her. Meanwhile Phoenix and the others are dealing with the aftermath of the battle and are determined to find Peri, while Vallaeartha’s mission to find her daughter takes her on a new journey alone.
This is such a brilliant book and i can’t believe how much I have enjoyed every page. The book begins at the very moment the last book ‘Earthlings’ finished with Peri desperately trying to save Euan during a vision. I love this book, with such a dramatic opening and how the story remains fast-paced throughout. The book switches perspective between various characters, always in the first person though, and I like how this is never confusing with each character given their own chapter header icon and each point of view giving a different perspective to the events that are happening.
It’s hard not to give too much away without spoiling it, but I will say that this book takes off right after the first one with Peridot trapped at the headquarters of the Descendents, and the others in the resistance trying desperately to find out where Peridot has been taken. I love what happens in this story and how we find out more about certain characters especially the being that Peridot shares a body with and how interesting that connection is. There are some new characters introduced into the story, I especially like Ela and some of the new animals including the stag later on in the tale, and I love that we see more of what goes inside Alan’s mind too! Despite the large cast of characters, each one is introduced in previous chapters to not make it confusing in any way, and in fact, having the chapters switch viewpoints made the action in the story feel so interesting and vivid.
Although I really did love this book, I did find getting back into it a bit tricky. The action was exciting straight away, but because it had been some time since I’d read Earthlings, I had forgotten some of the side characters, and there wasn’t really any explanation or mention of what had happened in the previous book so I was a bit lost in the first few chapters as to who some characters were until I could remember them, however if you read the books together it won’t be a problem and it wasn’t too confusing as the main characters are still very memorable and I like how some side characters become main characters lie One-Forty.
The book has a good build up towards an amazing last few chapters and I love how I couldn’t predict what would happen at all. Although there was something about one of the characters that I guessed early on, the story was written in such a way that I kept second guessing my own assumptions and in the end there are some brilliant revelations that I wasn’t expecting. On top of this I love how the final chapters lead to such a dramatic ending with so much happening and some new things revealed about Peridot and her mum. Every moment of the story played out like a movie, in fact it was so vivid and the action so brilliant that I felt like I was watching a movie in my head and I could see this becoming a brilliant movie on screen!
The book has a brilliant ending, and although it’s a good ending, it’s not the end of the story for Peridot and the others, and I can’t wait to see what will happen in the last book ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. Overall this is such a thrilling and exciting read and one which I think everyone should pick up. It’s definitely even better than the first book which I felt had a bit of a slow start, and this one will definitely keep you glued to the pages long into the night as you desperately want to see what will happen to Peridot and everyone else. It’s also an amazing read due to the environmental messages in the story and I love how this book doesn’t shy away from showing the brutal effects that modern day farming can have on the planet and more importantly on sentient beings. It’s definitely a book that will make you think about the way we do things on this planet and although it does show some of the brutality and there is some violence mentioned, it’s not too dark and not gory which makes it easier reading for teens who might be more sensitive.
As I said this book is brilliant and I would recommend it and the first book in the series as you’ll never have read anything like it and it will definitely flip your view on the way humans have affected the planet and the natural world. I just love this book and story so much, and this second book in particular, it’s so brilliant, exciting and is one of my favourite books I think I’ve ever read! -Thanks to Eden Green PR for a free copy

💻📖🎧 Book format & quality 💻📖🎧 Excellent font size and page colour. I find this font shape challenging but with the font size and page colour is almost a non-issue.
🌻SpLD comments (from a dyslexic)🌻 I particularly liked the chapter lengths in this book. Small chunks that are easy to digest and I can dip in and out of.
🎨 Artwork 🎨 I love the artwork on the cover it definately caught my eye and I wanted to dive in to see what the story was. I particularly liked the details through the book, with artwork at the start of every chapter..
✒️ Style & Plot 📉 This book was part of the Earthlings Trilogy, Book 2 . I will be reviewing Book 1 soon but I needed to get this review out. I love the authors world and character building. The story line was gripping and the interplay between characters was excellent. This book works well as a stand alone but I'm left with quite a few questions which hopefully book 1 will answer. I particularly enjoyed how the author wrote from the perspective of particular characters and I think this book would make an excellent audiobook. This book is deep with some challenging topics but honestly I loved this book and it is in my recommend must reads for 2023

🤓 Author Synopsis 🤓 The ‘genre-defying’ sequel to the multi-award-winning, best-selling EARTHLINGS trilogy, readers have proclaimed ‘life-changing’, DOMINION is a magick-fuelled coming-of-age YA fantasy exploring family dynamics, true friendship, and the desire to do what is right, against all odds. Perfect for fans of Lauren James and N.K Jemisin
Peridot has fallen, taken to the one place a magick-born does not want to end up: the Descendant's headquarters. Alone, she must learn to embrace her magick and bond with the ancient being inside of her to break free from captivity.
With the treaty unsalvageable, the Descendant’s plans hold dire consequences for all who remain loyal to humans. The odds are stacked against them and with the threat of newarrivals from overseas, Euan and the Resistance have no choice other than to prepare to make a stand and fight.
