The first three books tell the story of Richard & Lizzie is not for the faint-hearted. Richard has way too much money and is obsessed with Lizzie, to the extent of using & abusing her for his own satisfaction and I think his treatment of her is very divisive. With Richard’s games, Lizzie’s innocence gets shattered—but now who’s playing who? Richard is a villain—the games are violent, twisted, and dangerous. Just when you think it can’t get worse, you meet Roman and Aurora in the final two books. I enjoyed Roman’s retelling of events with Richard & Lizzie, and the way the obsessed brothers were competing with each other. The author’s detailed and authentic descriptions brought scenes to life.

writing is good but the barbaric kink is gross

I like the concept of the story but when it played out the men weren’t alpha buttheads but truly psycho. Did they chill out by the end of the series, sure, but getting there made you want to condemn them to unhappiness. They deserved it

A dark series with morally black men that is filled with non con and manipulation, so if that is not your cup of tea.. this will def not be for you.

SPOILER: Aurora and Roman were actually my favorite pairing out of this series.

Elizabeth and Richard

Wicked Games

Elizabeth is from American, but moved to London 6 months ago, after her parents died in a car accident. She has always wanted to be an actor, so she peruses a career in theater, winning a leading roll. She absolutely loves. But when she meets the owner of the theater, Richard, after their last showing, she gets weird vibes from him. But he is very forward, buys her a dress to wear to wear to their celebration party and has her change in front of him. At this party she is drugged and wakes up in a strange place with pieces of her memory missing.

She is set to believe that she is living in Victorian times, but she does not believe them. Richard tries to break her through punishments to make her believe they live in the past, without an technology and during a time when women had little to no control over anything.

However, Elizabeth is strong throughout this book and is constantly fighting back against Richard. She's desperate to escape him and he's desperate to mold her. This entire book is her trying to escape and him capturing her.

Sinister Games

I actually started this book off hella confused?? Because the author said here is your daily does of min fuckery!!

Elizabeth and Richard meet in London when he saves her from being ran over by a car and then treating her to a fancy dinner. At first Elizabeth is like, I can get used to this, but then Richard becomes over barring and she's like.. wait a damn minute.

Sinister Games I just that, sinister af. Richard saw Elizabeth in the park reading a Jane Austen novel (I believe it was JA) and knew she would be the perfect fit for the life he wanted to live - a Victorian one. We learn that there is this unique drug that is in trail for memory wiping. Which Richard starts to feed to Elizabeth, so he can mold her to the perfect partner. But our girl Elizabeth is a FIGHTER.

Anyways, he is insane. LMAO. This is definitely more morally black.

Savage Games

But sometimes good fighters loose their battles??

Richard breaks Elizabeth down and her memory starts to gloss over. She's compliant and obedient. She also starts believing that she is the one who wanted all of this and that she is the one manipulating Richard.. bat shit crazy.

Richard is ready to take their relationship to the next level - marriage. So he plans their marriage and they just get married. He was like 'I knew it would be too stressful for you to manage, so I did it.' *insert side tongue emoji*

The antics are up in this one though, because someone is trying to kill her.

So, this first set of 3 books was insane. I was actually rooting for Elizabeth to escape Richard and him be like "yeah, I fucked up let me grovel." Instead our girl just got brain washed.

Aurora and Roman

Cruel Games

Roman is Richard's half brother and I would say he is more morally grey than black, but he still sets his sights and takes.

Aurora's had a pretty rough life, her mother seems to hate her and her step father is a weirdo. She tried to keep to herself, she's a talented pianist and has dreams of pursuing an education in Paris and career as a musician when her family ends up in debt to a powerful man and as form of payment, he takes Aurora.

This "debt" was completely manufacture though, because he actually spotted Aurora first and knew he has to have her. So what better way than to manipulate a situation to get what you want?? He's also kind of used to that since he's the bastard child anyways.

Vicious Games

All Aurora ever wanted was to feel and be loved, but it was hard to know if what Roman was doing to her was love?? In the end the push and pull between the two was like "I never knew my father" and "I've never been loved, so I don't know how to navigate any of this the normal way." and it worked.

IDK, these two just worked for me.

You know those books that you read where you think "What is happening and why am I not able to put this down?!" - this is one of those. Please check the TWs!!!

These books were a wild ride (this was 5 books in one about two different couples). These are not your typical dark romance books; they are psychological mind f*cks that are written beautifully!! The spice is unhinged but super steamy, and the MMCs are beyond redeemable.

If you're okay with the TW's then I highly recommend this book!!!

(I purchased the special edition omnibus, and it is a gorgeous book!)

The Dark Obsession Boxset by Zoe Blake is a compilation of the entire series…five stories that follow two brothers!!

First, Wicked Games begins the twisted, torturous, decadent ride through the lives of Richard and Lizzie. The author has created an incredible, vividly realistic life for his ward….at all costs!!!! I was hypnotically, thoroughly, and completely absorbed in this incredible, ruthless, brutal world!

Their story continues in Sinister Games. This portion of the tale is an excruciating, disturbing tale that will leave you breathless!!! There are dangers lurking….and her faith and resolve are wavering. She no longer knows who or what to trust. This story grabs you, shakes you up, tosses you down…but, never lets go or relinquishes control!!!!

Their story concludes in Savage Games. This portion of the story is a look back in time…..to where and how it all began. This shows the slow obsessive control he gains over her… It is compelling and you just have to keep reading, though it twists your mind to do so!!!!!

Cruel Games begins the gut-wrenching, intoxicating story of Roman and Aurora. He is enchanted the first time he sees her. Almost immediately, his games begin. She is caught up in all of his machinations. Whew!!! This story was addictive!!! Roman is domineering, possessive, unrelenting, and completely unapologetic. He gets what he wants.

Their story concludes in Vicious Games. These two are playing a deadly game….one that you hope never ends!!! Roman is ruthless, unforgiving, immovable, and knows what he wants. Aurora is determined, unstoppable, never gives up, and is the perfect foil for Roman. Couldn’t put it down!!

whoa! Now I read a lot of dark content books, but this one went next level within the first chapter!

I purchased the audiobooks and there was actually no trigger warning about the fact that there was going to be a full-on described sexual assault... in the first 10-minutes!

And it's too bad because this interesting mix of M Night Shamylan themes combined with disturbing episodes of The Twilight zone could have made for a very interesting story.

However I'm at the point where my mental health is valuable to me. I would rather ditch a book than go by how other people are reacting. So this goes immediately to my dnf and books that pissed me off shelves.

Fortunately audible lets you return a book within 24 hours if you didn't like it. I'm glad because a whole series of this? no thanks.

I've read some of her other books and they were dark but not like this. definitely walk on by

Best ending ever.

Okay, so this is a complex book/series to review. Let me start by saying i enjoyed reading the series. To beign with it seemed to be more assaults than story. However, it does evolve, and the author does a great job of immersing you into the story and the characters. The storyline is completely different from the regular boy meets girl and falls in love cliche. It's very intense with very few things to laugh about. But the ending is my favourite i have ever read.

A warning to readers, these books literally dive nose deep into what is essentially domestic violence. If you are sensitive, perhaps leave these ones alone.

I’m a fan of dark romance, but The Dark Obsession Box took things to a level that was simply too much for me. While I appreciate Zoe Blake’s skillful writing and ability to craft a compelling story, I had to stop at Savage Games. The constant mind games and the way Elizabeth’s character was manipulated became overwhelming. I kept waiting for her to wake up and take control, but that moment never came, leaving me frustrated. If you enjoy extremely intense dynamics, this might work for you, but it crossed my personal line.

The Dark Obsession series is an unpredictable, wild ride!

It is an absolute must-read if you love your men unhinged, highly possessive, and obsessive. It holds a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorite series. Roman is my number one book boyfriend with his dark and sinister nature. But don't worry—his brother Richard is just as unhinged and diabolical as Roman, adding another layer of depth to the captivating storyline.

Shudders from the cruelty that so called mother had for daughter. And her step father… feeling only disgust at what she endured. Relationship of Roman and Aurora? Difficult to describe. And the games played? Well let’s just say runs in the family.
