Father Mauro lived a peaceful life in a small town ministering to his community. That is, until he found a wounded demon (?) in the bushes of the church garden. While Raoul looks like a demon, complete with horns and a tail, he doesn’t act like the typical demon. Playful? Yes! Mischievous? Yes! Outright evil? Well… that depends on the definition. Does seducing men of the cloth count as evil – especially if they like it?
Takanaga Hinako (高永ひなこ) is a Japanese author of Boys' Love manga. She has also provided illustrations for several BL light novels by other authors, including The Guilty by Katsura Izumi. Her first manga story, (Goukaku kigan, Prayers for a passing grade?), was published by Hanamaru Comics in 1997; it was later reworked as the first chapter of Challengers. Most of her works have been translated into foreign languages. She was a guest at YaoiCon 2007, invited by Juné, the US publishers of her popular series Little Butterfly. When not making Boys' Love manga, she spends her time collecting Wallace & Gromit merchandise and playing Final Fantasy. Takanaga doesn’t like beer and people who are ignorant.
She comments that her biggest influence on her art and writing-style was KOUGA Yun, a famous shoujo manga artist whose works she read as a teenager.
Mauro is a young priest who finds Raoul beaten in his backyard. Raoul has horns and a tail but is sure he’s not a demon. Despite his reservations, Mauro takes him in and Raoul starts to become ill. When he finally has sex with Mauro he feels much better and suspects he might be an incubus. All of a sudden his older brother appears and Raoul is a demon, but fell through a crack in the time space continuum (or something like that) and they want him to return home. He loves Mauro though and becomes depressed. Mauro accepts their love. It was a cute story about him accepting his lover was a demon which kind of goes against the whole priest thing.
There are a couple of other shorts, one about a student teacher who is accosted on the street by a young man who thinks he’s attractive. It turns out the boy is one of his students. Ooops. This causes problems as he’s very aggressive in his pursuit. It was done in a bit of a humorous manner.
There is then a short about Raoul’s older brother and his part-time demon lover and a tiff they have over a gift that the lover gives him. On the whole I enjoyed this manga. Nothing amazing but some cute stories and it tends to be the style of drawing I enjoy.
The title story (a priest takes in an injured demon who turns out to be an incubus, three guesses where that’s headed) is fine but nothing to write home about unless you’re into the sexy priest corruption, but the middle short story (a boy falls for his best friend in high school, doesn’t realize why he feels so strongly about him, is absolutely shocked when his friend confessed to him and then offers to wait for his reply since he’s moving away...) was adorable and worth the price of admission on its own. I just love friends to lovers so much??? The art is lovely, as per usual with Takanaga-sense I.

I am reading this mangaka after yeeears of finishing "The Tyrant..." and look at it, I still like her even if she writes non-con. Too bad this wasn't a whole story, but actually 3 (4? a bit of the incubus' older brother and another incubus who can't keep it in his pants).
Story #1: a priest and an incubus. Their love was sweet, the incubus was very earnest and his older brother was funny.
Story #2: teacher and student. Ehhh, the student was silly but his feelings were cute but then he goes and rapes his teacher so...
Story #3: the purest love maybe, between 2 classmates. One of them confesses and waits (a year?) for the reply of the other.
I love this author! Her stories are always really cute (but also incredibly sexy!) and her art is absolutely gorgeous. I only wish every story in this book were fantasy-themed like the ones about the demons and incubi. When the stories suddenly switch to modern-day tales, although they're great stories, it kind of broke the mood a bit.
Anyway, I love Hinako Takanaga and this is not a disappointing addition to my collection of her yaoi manga.
This is a pretty cute story with cute art. Unfortunately the story doesn’t follow the main characters, the manga consists of multiple characters doing other stuff.
I've outwrong Takanaga-san a long time ago. I still quite like the style, though it's not my prefered one, but the stories and characters...yikes. Big ol' yikes.
Definitely the most whimsical of Hinako Takanaga's works I've read, but also for good reason the steamiest. I hope she does more stuff like this one someday!
This is a manga of short stories that needs to be read as a bit of fun and not taken too seriously. As in, all the stories feature ukes who think that they don't want their semes (or in some cases, a gay relationship at all!) but of course we, the reader, know that they mean yes, not no, just as their seme does... See what I mean? Plus the magical glowing penis makes an appearance in all the sex scenes, it's been way too long since I read a yaoi manga that is censored in that way ^_^!
I know this is going to seem sacrilegious to say as a yaoi fan but I actually enjoyed the gay romance story the most. The boy slowly coming to realise that he does share feelings for his school mate after they part ways for college was really sweet, whereas the other stories felt a bit rushed and PWP-ish in some ways. Although I have to say, the priest and the incubus were a very hot couple but the older brother and his lover, wow! I would have liked to see their story explored further...
This is a oneshot collection and most of them are silly stories with nothing really going for them except for Takanaga-sensei's artwork. One of the stories I found interesting though because it didn't seem to mesh with the others. There was no sex at all and instead it focused on the growing relationship between two friends when one of them fell for the other. However happiness wasn't immediate because the other guy didn't feel for him that way.
In my opinion, this volume is really only worth reading except for that one short story but if you're not someone who loves to read and enjoy short stories then this compilation won't make you happy at all.
Is Raoul a boy with an unfortunate condition or is he a demon? If a demon, what kind is he? Could a demon be in love with a priest? Could a priest love a demon? It’s a hopeless cause, right? With humor, good story-telling and great drawing, Ms. Takanaga shows the gradual progression from fear to love in this unusual love story. More humorous than angst-ridden, the title story has plenty of drama, sex and romance to make any yaoi reader very happy as well as Ms. Takanaga’s unique style of drawing slender, beautiful young boys.
The cover story (in multiple parts, about 1/2 of the book) is lighthearted, fun and spicy. So are most of the side stories, though the main one is the best. There's one more serious romantic story about two high-school friends, one of whom is waiting for the other to respond to his confession of love...for more than a year.
One of Takanaga's best, in my opinion. I enjoyed this more than Challengers, and the tone is similar.
I enjoyed this volume. I love how Hinako Takanaga draws, and her stories I have enjoyed all of them. In this volume Father Mauro is leading a very quiet life until he meets Raoul. Is Raoul a demon since he has horns and a tail, but the way he acts is nothing like a demon (except when he is trying to get the father to sleep with him). Raoul brother makes me laugh in this.

3,5 stars This manga contains four stories, and only the first, and a little bit of the last, belong to the cover art. I really don't know what how I should describe them, other than "it's nice" again.
didn't like the main part of the story cause i hated the protagonists, they're boring (2-stars) but the bonus story (dealing with the protagonists brother and his lover => demons) was HOT (maybe 4-stars). this was worth buying it xD
This was a fun, quirky and lovely little read. I adored Baldur, bless his cold little heart. All the stories were sweet little reads, and I enjoyed them immensely. Recommended to anyone who likes their yaoi with a a dollop of sweetness, silliness and lust.
The primary story of this book - involving the Father and the Demon is a fun read and I thought the artwork quite good. There is ample room to continue this story so I hope the author does at some point in the future.
The story "Before Winter Comes" is a sweet story as well.
