This is amazing! A incredibly well written apocalyptic adventure, a really frightening idea, a couple of really great main characters, that I felt you could connect with straight away. I was completely absorbed in this story, it kept me up late reading, it was oh so good! I can't wait to see where this series will go & I do strongly recommend! You will not be disappointed!
This book hooked me from the start with all the danger and excitement of this crazy post-apocalyptic world. Skies of Fire was one of the most intense post-apocalyptic books I have read, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. It was my first Lindsey Pogue book, and I am definitely going to be checking out her backlist.
The other thing I loved was the cowboy vibes mixed in with the end of the world danger. Ava and Knox have grown up in a world where the threat of natural disasters is always looming, and scientists have warned the world will end. Earth has been affected after an asteroid hit the moon, and some people prepared while others were skeptics. Ava and Knox were tied together from a tragedy where Knox’s father hated and blamed Ava. She is struggling to survive, deal with her medical condition, and take care of the woman who raised her after her mother died. Knox is trying to keep his father’s ranch going and deal with a family torn apart. However, now there are multiple disasters happening at the same time, and they are forced together to try to survive.
They have to deal with newly erupting volcanoes, fires, sulfur in the water, sinkholes, and tornadoes. They are in a race to survive and find a safe place to flee to. Knox and Ava were thrown together, but they had such a beautiful connection and trust in each other. I really loved how they were the best team and how hard they fought to survive.
I highly recommend this to anyone who loves post-apocalyptic/end of the world romances. I absolutely loved the horses in this, and I was very invested in their safety.
This is a standalone in the Surviving Earth Chronicles, but it is tied to K Webster’s book Waves of Fury. I can’t wait to read that next to find out what Knox’s brother went through when there was a tsunami in San Francisco.
Lindsey Pogue does post-apocalyptic romance like no other. In SKIES OF FIRE, the landscape is changing thanks to an asteroid that knocked the moon off its axis. Years have gone by and people have since forgotten that lil tidbit. That is until devastation comes knocking in the form of wildfires, volcanic eruptions, and other catastrophic events, and it’s now a race for survival. Knox and Ava, two people with a lot of emotional baggage, are two survivors who find themselves working together to save who and what they can. I really enjoyed this one! I loved Knox and Ava together and how they had to work through so much of their own struggles in order to move forward with one another. The romantic element was perfectly balanced with the chaotic world, and I liked how their relationship added a bit of brightness to an otherwise bleak tale. Post-apocalyptic and apocalypse stories are one of my favorite subgenres and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of reading about the myriad ways of how the world could end. While many of the means are far-fetched (I’m looking at YOU, alien invasion), other ways are taken directly from science and current events, like this particular approach. We’re currently in the midst of raging wildfires, super storms, several impending volcanic eruptions, so that added a bit of realism and made me fear this apocalypse even more. All told, this was a solid end-of-the world/survival thriller with plenty of spicy romance. 4 stars.
I absolutely loved this book. The chaos the characters dealt with was intense and felt realistically possible with the phenomenons that led to and caused the natural disorder. The emotions were relatable and the scenarios well written. I felt like I was there so many times. There were laughs and a few tears, pain happiness and fear. There was just enough romance to tie everything up perfectly. The spice wasn't graphic, sort of fade to black or vague enough to set the scene but not too vividly.
I really hope there's more books for each of the characters because this world has completely drawn me in. Hook, line, and sinker! I can't wait to read the next book in this series which is written by K. Webster, and author I've already enjoyed previously. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic romance. Might be a few trigger but I loved it!
A new post-apocalyptic romance series by Lindsey Pogue that's just as good as her others.
I really enjoy stories in a post-apocalyptic world where everything changes and it's about survival and returning to the basics of life. I loved Knox and Ava together and how they had to work through their own struggles and the history in their past that was passed onto them by others. They had steered clear of one another because of mistakes made by their family members but always had an interest in the other. The romance was perfectly balanced with the chaotic world, and I liked how they had each other's back no matter what came their way.
Full of extreme weather, disaster situations, drama and romance.
** What sort of clothes does one need when fleeing the end of the world?**
CALLING ALLL APOCALYPSE LOVERS!! This book. This is the one. I feel the need to build an underground bunker and start buying prepper kits from Amazon after this book. This book had me completely captivated from the very first chapter. It was written so well that I thought I was fleeing for my life at times. The plot was immaculate. This book had a way of bringing out alll emotions. Tears, happiness, sadness, anxiety, stress just all of them. My heart was about to pound out of my chest at some parts. I absolutely loved the concept of this book and how it was Mother Nature herself that was destroying the world. It felt so real like something that could legitimately happen. Knox and Ava are so strong and they just make each other stronger. They had to go through so much to survive. This was definitely 10 outta 10 highly recommend.
I waited so long with bated breath for this book and I wasn't disappointed. The storyline has everything you need Romance, Action, Happiness, Heartbreak, it really has it all. The main characters Ava and Knox have an amazing chemistry on the page and I loved how their relationship grew along with the story. Of how the craziness of the world brought them together in more ways than one. There were times when I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happened next with some amazing action scenes sprinkled throughout. An honest 5 star read!!
I absolutely devoured this book! I'll be honest here. While I love a post-apocalyptic movie, I haven't read too many books with the subject. I was very intrigued by this storyline, and I'm so glad I read it. This book is very much a slow burn and, in my opinion, relatively low on the spice scale, but I was not at all missing it (which is saying something with the kinds of books that I read 🤣). I was consistently on the edge of my seat 😬. I was brought to the verge of tears... more than once 🥺. And yes, I verbally rejoiced for the little victories that these characters achieved. If you want conflict and drama, read this book! If you want intense adventures, read this book! If you want a genuinely good story, read this book!
This book was an absolutely BONKERS RIDE and I couldn’t put it down!! Ava and Knox have known each other most of their lives, but a tragedy ten years ago left their tentative friendship in tatters. Whole Ava has been struggling to stay healthy and afloat, Knox has been dealing with his broken family. Then Mother Nature goes absolutely haywire, and these two are stuck together, for better or worse. The events of this book are a literal nightmare: all across America are horrific natural disasters. Fires, floods, volcanos, tornadoes…there’s literally no safe place. Ava and Knox go from barely speaking to having no one else but each other (and Lucy who is the sweetest, goodest girl ever!!!). We travel with them trying to outrun one natural disaster after another, and while falling for each other. This book was scary and exciting and I had no idea what would happen next! I was routing so hard for Ava and Knox, both the get through this mess and to get their HEA 💜 -Weather apocalypse -Friends to strangers to lovers -Family tragedies -Forced proximity -Slow burn romance Thank you so much to LP for this arc!!
Well that was one heck of a ride! I don’t typically read apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic reads but I really enjoyed this story, I was hooked right from the start and didn’t want to put it down! It’s got extreme weather, disaster situations, drama and then there’s romance – it really has it all!
This story follows Ava and Knox, who are supposed to be enemies thrown together in extreme life or death situations where they discover that they are going to have to depend on each other for survival and maybe they just don’t hate each other as much as they thought. I really loved this journey, it was exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more. I felt like it was a good mix of disaster story and human story, like I really got to know Ava and Knox as people in the midst of all the other drama. I loved them together and was completely rooting for them the whole time.
Fun, entertaining and surprisingly touching, I really loved this book from start to finish, a definite must read!
Another epic story by Lindsey. Honestly this one was a little different from her other ones that I've read but still amazing. The description of the world and the characters, she always makes it feel like you are right there. Following Ava and Knox on this torrential journey had me guessing what else could possibly happen next. I loved the passion between Ava and Knox. This is a must read book if you love post-apocalyptic with romance and adventure.
This is a great novel from an author who is a master at writing vulnerable and flawed characters. Ava and Knox make the best of the moment when the earth snaps back at humankind. This book is heartbreaking and affirming.
On the brink of an impending apocalypse, Knox and Ava find themselves incredibly alone. With constant tremors and an impending super massive earthquake, they are forced to put aside their differences and lean on each other for safety. I loved the drama, the action and the chemistry between Knox and Ava, as they escape a crumbling Texas and find their way to Kansas in search of family. Lindsey Pogue's writing is fast paced and vividly describes the chaotic landscape. The romance is subtle and not overly done, which is good considering everything is falling apart around them. I think this is a perfect mix of thrill and romance, and definitely a must read for those who love angsty science fiction.
I absolutely loved this book! I've been reading Lindsey's books since the Ending series and this might be my favorite so far. Knox and Ava start out thinking they are enemies, but soon realize they need each other to survive. The story had non stop action and lots of emotion. I would love to see this become a series.
Prepare to be on the edge of your seat riddled with worry and anxiety (in the best way) on this post apocalyptic journey. Volcanoes, sinkholes, and earthquakes are ravaging earth. Ava is alone and in desperate need of her medication. Knox is in need of supplies when the two of them are thrown together as mother nature begins to turn on Texas. And it isn’t just Mother Nature that Ava and Knox must be weary of, people can’t be trusted either in this new reality.
Skies of Fire kept me up at night wondering how Ava and Knox were going to survive. I was so invested in their survival that I could not put the book down. Five Stars. This is a must read book!
This is a stand-alone in the Surviving Earth Chronicles. Make sure to read Knox’s brother’s story in Waves of Fury by K Webster.
This book was so good. I love a good post-apocalyptic, weather going crazy, end of the world story and this one was great! The visuals described in the book about what was happening around them were so good I felt like I was transported there, I could see it happening. The story is action packed and definitely more action than romance but it really takes you for a ride. Ava and Knox's chemistry was undeniable, and the slow burn was just delicious. And Harper... Harper had me with tears running down my face. Definitely a great read!
I know I’m a little late for this party, but I have much to say. #TLDR review: Lindsey Pogue slayed the post-apocalyptic world yet again with a tumultuous, tender, and tantalizing tale worth reading again and again.
In *Skies of Fire*, Lindsey Pogue (LP) crafts a world as vital to the story as the characters. Her skillful world-building creates a setting that is an expansive, post-apocalyptic landscape ravaged by a mysterious plague. As with many of LP’s novels, the environment isn’t just a backdrop to the action; it’s an active participant in the plot, shaping the choices and fates of the characters in powerful, often unexpected ways. The world feels as alive and complex as any character, with its rhythms, dangers, and unspoken rules. I find this characteristic in LP’s writing foundational, as it is an essential part of her muse and one that emanates from the epic storytellers of old. In this way, “Skies of Fire” is a compelling reminder that a setting can become more than just a backdrop—it can become an essential part of the story’s soul.
Set against a desolate albeit beautiful, post-apocalyptic Earth, the environment is unforgiving, marked by deadly storms, ancient ruins, and an ever-present threat of chaos. This world isn’t merely something the characters move through; they interact with, fight against, and sometimes even come to understand. Pogue’s vivid descriptions of the vast, empty skies, the decimated cities, and the remnants of a once-thriving civilization create a palpable atmosphere of awe and fear. The environment constantly shifts, and I find it often mirrors the characters’ internal struggles and growth. This world serves as both a crucible and a mirror for the protagonists. In the vast emptiness, there is a constant tension between the hope of survival and the despair of the unknown. As the characters navigate this dangerous new world, the setting pushes them to their limits, forcing them to make choices that reflect their strengths and vulnerabilities. The weather, the terrain, and the remnants of the old world all seem to have an uncanny way of shaping the course of the story as if it is a living, breathing character whose motivations and goals are intertwined with those of the protagonists. The setting of “Skies of Fire” stands out because it evolves alongside the characters. The once-pure skies, now filled with ash and peril, serve as a powerful metaphor for the characters’ journeys—both fractured and filled with glimpses of hope.
Enough about the world-building – let me give you a glimpse at the fully realized main characters, Skyla and Ronan. Skyla is fiercely independent and self-reliant (a common theme for LP). The threats to her safety and survival honed her instincts and sharpened her resolve. Throughout the story, she becomes not just another “B-A” gal; her compassion and loyalty are cultivated and shine through her internal struggle to balance survival and humanity. Ronan is a protector and survivor. He’s guarded and holds a tremendous sense of duty. His journey through the desolate landscape and remnants of civilization causes him to confront his vulnerabilities, chip away at that chiseled exterior (in more ways than one), and grant access to emotional and mental fortitude that creates the perfect collision and culmination to his relationship with Skyla.
"Gertie Got Us". Sixty years ago an asteroid knocked the moon off its axis signaling the eventual destruction of the Earth. Volcanoes, tsunamis, sinkholes, and tornadoes dominate the landscape. The Government has diverted all available resources to prepare for the worst. Moon Maniacs and Doomsday preppers are ready. But to Ava this is life; she has never known any other way. Her priorities are paying bills and taking care of her dying grandmother. Knox's family owns the most successful ranch in town but since his mother died and his older brother took off, his father has been spiraling downward. These two are forever linked in tragedy, but the day the world starts to fall, Ava and Knox find themselves together in a fight for survival.
Amazing! I am a huge post-apocalyptic fan but it seems that most are based on destruction by human events or outside invaders. This is the first one I have read about the destruction of the moon's balance on Earth, turning Mother Nature deadly. Of course, it was fiction, but it was done so well that it seemed frighteningly realistic. It was exciting, intense, horrifying, and spellbinding. I loved every word in this book. Each character was well thought out, the journey was suspenseful, the danger was terrifying, and the emotional turmoil was fierce. The end is near, but not yet. There is more to come and I can't wait.
This story deals with a bunch of difficult topics and emotions. There is obvioisly a lot of loss and grief and uncertainty since this is the apocalypse and we get to experience not only the horrors of nature but also the failing society (which I found much more chilling). Despite their initial differences Ava and Knox really grow together as a team and also as a couple. That being said, I think the romance is more like a side dish (at least for the majority of the story), since there is so much more going on.
The characters are fantastic! Knox is the son of a rancher. He is bred for toughness and is good at focusing in the task at hand, how ever unpleasant that might be. He doesn't like to show emotions (given his upbringing), but they are never far from the surface. Ava keeps herself busy, partly out of necessity, partly because that makes her life easier in a way. It is easy to imagine how someone like her would fall into step next to someone like Knox.
There are a lot of tragic events that happened before the start of the story - so our characters come with a lot of emotional baggage / trauma. I loved the way the backstory was incorporated. The one thing that I really didn't like was the conflict between Knox's dad and Ava. That part was too dramatic and soapy for me, but I'm glad that so many other things happened that kept my interest.
This was the first story I read by this author, but it won't be the last. Solid 4 Stars!
Picture it - it's the end time and the world is quite literally on fire. You're all alone and scare. You have no idea what to do or where to go. All of the sudden, coming through the haze you hear *clip clop clip clop* and a distorted figure begins to appear on the horizon, heading towards you. What is it? Who is it? As the figure takes shape you realize it's the hot cowboy from the ranch on the outside of town. You know, the one you have a very complicated relationship with? Well, he's on his horse and he's here to save you. Let's Ride! . I absolutely loved this book! It was such a scarily realistic take on the end of the world. The characters were all so well written, and the setting was beautifully described. I felt joy, fear, anxiety, sadness, relief, literally all of the emotions! If you are a fan of apocalyptic stories then I highly recommend picking this book (and series) up. . BRB on my way to start building an underground bunker in the midwest
Vibes: I ate this up! End of the World x Cowboy Romance with a side of adorable dog! I was absolutely obsessed with apocalypse books as a kid but haven't really read many as an adult, so not only did this bring back all those vibes, and apocalypse books are so much better as an adult! Knox is the perfect MMC, and Ava was really relatable. The world was crazy, but everything 'made sense' as to how it was happening, and after living through our own 'end of the world' a few years ago, the reactions of the people made almost too much sense. The book was not overly spicy, but it had its moments; it was really the emotional connection between them that made me invest in their story.
Overall & Spice: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️/5
Side note: I read this one prior to K. Webster's Waves Of Fury, and I would recommend reading this one first out of the two. Definitely enjoyed this one and can’t wait for more in the series!

Disclaimer: This book was provided to me as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in exchange for my honest opinion.
This story had a bit of a different twist on post-apoc.
This story starts about 50 years after a meteor collides with the moon. This causes the Earth to experience some crazy weather changes and earth quakes. However, society as we know it today is still functioning. The story picks up when the weather conditions worsen, causing the collapse of society.
Knox and Ava are just so sweet. I loved seeing their partnership. We learn that neither really hated the other one, but because of actions of their family members, they are not friendly. Both characters eventually decide that together they are stronger and form a very strong connection.
I really liked the story until about 60-70% of the way through. There is a side character that becomes a bigger part in the story. I think this addition put a damper on the developing relationship and pushed it to the back burner. The story felt less like a post-apoc romance after that addition.
Overall, this was a good post-apoc romance (open door) with a great story about forgiveness and family.
Ava and Knox have known each other since childhood. They were set on opposite sides of life when Ava's uncle murdered Knox's mother. Now, as the world continues its destruction after an asteroid hit the moon fifty years before, their Texas land is breaking apart before their eyes. Huge fissures in the earth release molten lava, setting the land afire. They know they must escape together, but to where?
This story is high-angst, apocalyptic, and hair-raising. It also has a beautiful romance that emerges from the darkness. Read Waves of Fury to bring the two stories together as brothers attempt to reunite.
This book…just WOW! I don’t know where to begin with this one because it is just so impactful. It begs the question of what would you do if facing the end of the world as you knew it and that is just what is happening to Knox and Ava. These two are put through the wringer as they navigate the Earth destroying everything that they know. This storyline is so well written that it brings up so many emotions and has one thinking about being prepared just in case. If you love a post-apocalyptic storyline then do not wait to grab this one for your shelf. It is a must read!
I want more! This stand-alone novel had the action, the tension, regrets, resolve and passion - it had it all. The end of the world has come for all of them, even the preppers are caught off-guard. I really enjoyed reading about Ava and Knox fighting it out to survive the worst that mother nature ravaged on them. It all played out like a film in my head, Lindsey has a great knack for describing these scenes and her fully fledged characters, their stories, their sorrows, their hope.
Ava has been an adult since her family died. And she has felt like an outcast since her drunk uncle wrecked. It's hard to avoid being the center of small town gossip. Never having lived on a stable Earth the aftermath of Asteroid Gerta hitting the moon, life has been a struggle. Then the volcanos erupt close to home and tsunami wipes out the west coast. Unlikely people become allies in the effort to survive.
I wasn’t sure going into this one since it’s the same universe, but a different author. But very enjoyable, definitely a different writing style from the other book . I enjoyed Knox and Ava’s story. Wish there were more books in this post apocalyptic world.
Great story, great characters - there's lots of action, but it doesn't come at the expense of character growth. You really come to care for Knox, Ava, Harper, and everyone else. I have no idea how much the science tracks if we were to lose the moon in an asteroid strike, but the book well-written enough to sound believable regardless. Looking forward to the next!
Knox and Ava form a duo during earth's upheaval. This is an action packed novel that takes many twists and turns. During the chaos Knox and Ava find common ground, even if their backgrounds are totally different. Read this adventure and be prepared to be swept up in the story of Knox, Ava and their survival.
