Sprite

Demon eyes is the first thought that springs to mind and the little girl takes care to hide them behind dark sunglasses. Yet when her mom abandons her, Odd discovers that loneliness and fear of the unknown are far worse than being a freak. My favorite book. The character, Odd, took over what was supposed to be a horror story and changed it to suit herself. She became the story.

Such a sweet book. This is the story of Odd(Audrey) a 12 year old girl who has three huge problems:
1. Odd's eyes are grotesquely red and tend to freak people out. It's so bad that she can't go to school or really anywhere without her sun glasses.
2. Odd's mother is an alcoholic, selfish B***** who abandons her on a whim, leaving her with a few dollars, a motel room that's paid up for a week and a promise to return. A promise she breaks.
3. Odd's world sucks and seems to be populated with the lowest form of people: pedophiles, rapists, crack-heads, and perhaps worst of all, people who have just given up on life.
Despite all of this Odd perseveres in her search for her mother and does so in such a way that I fell in love with her. I cried when she cried, and laughed when she laughed, and hurt at her every predicament. On a journey across America she finds there is more to life than she ever thought possible. I highly recommend Sprite.

I'm giving this book 5 stars despite the sloppy editing in some places. The story is that good! The author has figured out a way for a person to have a birth defect that the majority of people will find quite hard to take, but is easily hidden. You'll experience most emotions through the course of the book and love the growth of the main character. This book is another example that there are really great people in the world!

Sprite wasn't at all what I was expecting. I thought it would be paranormal fantasy. Instead it is maybe the saddest story that I ever loved. By that I mean I don't really like these sorts of books, but I was just caught up in it so fast and couldn't put it down.

Sprite by Peter Meredith is a change from the author’s usual genre of horror. Instead is a story of a little girl trying to survive on her own and wanting love so much. The more that you read, the more you want to read.
Sprite, aka, Odd, aka Audrey Wyatt has a genetic condition called ocular albinism that cause her to have red eyes. She is afraid to let people see her eyes because they react with screams and some even accuse her of having demon eyes. Her mother habitually abandons her while she bar hops. Sprite has had no love from her self -centered mother. Her mother’s focus was on getting men to buy her stuff and support her.
Sprite has missed a lot of school and has no friends. She wears sunglasses to prevent people from seeing her red eyes. Her glasses are a shield from their reactions. She desperately needs someone to love and care for her.
One day, her mother leaves her with a little bit of money for a few days of rent and Sprite has to scrounge for food as she tries to find her. Can you imagine having only a small bowl of pretzels to eat for a few days?
This very neglected and vulnerable twelve year old girl has been in foster homes so many times before and her latest experience was terrifying. She hears that her mother was in California and sets off on journey from the Midwest to find her. Mind you that with her sparse education she had little knowledge of how to find her or even where California was. On her journey she learns how to love a person, and is finally loved but also that the outside world was even scarier than she could imagine.
The characters are very well drawn, and as the pages go on you really sympathy for Sprite and want the best for her. The only negative that I have about this book is that the evil characters seemed a little one-dimensional. I didn’t feel comfortable about the ending.
I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to my friends. This e-book was free and I was encouraged to read this e-book by the author but that had no influence on my review. My thoughts are my own.

Excellent book, bought and read in one sitting! literally couldn't put it down. I would recommend this to everyone, be warned though you may end up a little weepy!

This book was so so so so sad. It was sad, depressing, harsh--yet it held so much hope. I cried a few times in this book, not gonna lie. This book was great. It really was.

Sprite
This is a story that when I first started reading it,I wasn't sure what I was expecting. But as I continued to read it,I found myself captivated with the little girl named Odd. It is a truly thought provoking, heart wrenching story that comes back to you while driving, watching TV even working in the yard, making you wonder about people and their actions.
This is a story that should be among the required reading in High Schools. Maybe it would wake up some of the people and make them think twice before they start something that they don't know how to handle.
I Highly recommend this Book.

I originally read an excerpt of Sprite prior to the full length of the novel being available. With just an intro, I was hooked, and got my full copy as soon as I could. I fell in love with this little girl, bit by bit, until I wanted to adopt her myself!
The author does not waste the readers time with grammar issues, so common in many kindle books. The writing is beautiful and simplistic, making it easy for the reader to endear themselves in the complex emotional events in the book.
My only warning is this: make sure you have tissues close by.

All I can say after listening to this is ... WOW. So powerful! So relevant! Such a warm, sad, tragic but wonderful story. Beautifully written by one of my FAVORITE authors, Peter Meredith! He has so many great books out! I highly recommend this one, it's something everyone should read, feel, experience.
Masterful Job! Narration was great also, really enjoyed the entire experience.

I got sucked into this book in a surprising way. I started with the sample and was so into it that I was confused when it ended. Needless to say that I bought the book and then read it straight through except when I had to stop to get more tissues. Yeah, it was a tear-jerker, but a good one.

Sprite...what can I say? I'm a grown man and I cried while reading this book. Peter Meredith brings a 12 year old girl to life with his words. It felt like I was reading about an actual person and sometimes it hurt my heart to continue, but I couldn't stop.

Wonderful heart retching book
This is not typically my kind of book book but I had read other books by this author and decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. It’s a poignant story about a girl who faces life alone and meets good and evil people on her journey. Great story!

Good read
Unexpected ending. Story told well with more than a few surprises. I like this author’s books. I especially like his apocalyptic novels but I stopped reading after the second Generation Z book because of the dual personalities of Jillybean

Emotional read
I chose the book because the cover caught my attention while scrolling. Not my typical read at all. Loved the book and all her ups and downs. I wish there was more of a conclusion at the end. Or at least a follow up. Wonderful story.

What a heart crushing book. I finished this two days ago and I couldn't bring myself to pick up another book. Odd is a beautiful person. She isn't a character, not in my mind.

Beautiful young lady...
Books are my greatest entertainment...a well written book is wonderful. This one is emotionally well written. Did it affect me? Oh yeah...
Odd-drey is a beautiful blond haired 10 year old little girl with a strange eye problem. Severe albinosm has left her with red very sensitive eyes. Her mother(if you can call her that) insists she is a demon child. Odd & her mother exist in a world of bars, drugs & sketchy men. Cheap hotel rooms, it's all she knows. Her mother leaves for California with a truck driver promising to return the following week. The days come & go ...Odd is alone.
What can a 10 year old do? No money, no home...just the promise of foster homes where no one really wants this strange child.
Written with tremendous emotion, the author gives us Odd's world. Nasty foster homes, a system that is obviously broken, disreputable people who want the money more than the child.
Odd is different..a sweet loving child who is looking for something she's never had. Adventure & tears will follow as Odd makes her way cross country. She will find love but at what cost?
This is truly a remarkable book. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice, solid read! Get your tissue ready, you're goons need them!

Never have I felt so intubated by a character in a book...
OMG and ARE YOU SERIOUS... Is all I can think after a sleepless binge read adventure as this awesome book have me! I love Peter Meredith's characters , he breathes life into them like no other but I'm utterly speechless over how good this book is!! I've never cheered and then cried reading a book before. What a journey this book took me on!! If all books did to me what this book did... My husband wouldn't let me read, especially at bedtime. It terrified him being woke up in the wee hours because I was just sobbing.. Then laughing.. Then sobbing again. Peter Meredith..You take reading to a whole nother level!!! (I don't even know if that last sentence is grammatically correct because of my overloaded emotions at 5am) This book deserves another grading scale because 5 stars doesn't even come close to how awesome this story is!!)

This was a heartbreaking and tearful read for me 'Odd' a young 12yr old real name of Audrey is called a freak, but amongst the people of America she manages to meet up with some good folk amongst many bad ones. One person she sees more of a sister is Connie a young girl herself but a couple of years older than Odd.
Connie has experienced some real hardships, and although Odd is much smaller and weaker she wants to protect Connie. Here is a short passage that sums it up
'Tears came again. Great round jewels. Pearls of the soul. And Connie only grew more dazzling. Odd, though smaller and far weaker, wanted to go to her and protect her.

Talk about an emotional roller coaster! This book had me sad, angry, happy, fearful, mad as hell, happier than I had any right to be and mostly CRYING! I shed so many, many tears over the course of reading this wonderful book. Peter really pulled no punches with this one and you just can't help feeling all the feels possible. Give it a read if you haven't - I promise there are no Zombies (which is my go to typically) but there are monsters....very real monsters.

Another great tale from a master storyteller. Enchanting characters and a brilliant storyline. A great read!

I loved little Odd (Sprite). Such remarkable strength in one little girl. I have no words to say about her mother only that there are so many of them out there just like her. Sprite is a product of our world of selfishness and uncaring for others, of using and taking advantage of those less fortunate. The story broke my heart and I know where I wanted her to end up so in that I am disappointed that I didn't get the ending that I wanted. However she will find a way.

Oh dear Lord. This book kept me glued to my kindle. I literally want to hurt Odd's Mother AND now Father.....oh and the foster parents. How people could allow a child to live that way. How can they treat her that way.
The book was a excellent read. I have enjoyed this author's books forever. On the day of his funeral I read Sprite. One of his best. You will be missed.

Heart Filling Story
I loved this story. It really hit home for a child of an Alcoholic Mother and a mentally disabled Father . You would think I would not enjoy a story such as this but Sprite's struggles and small sweet happiness makes me feel like maybe finally I can find Heaven .

Such a heartbreaking read. It was such a good bad story and I kept thinking people are so awful and cruel and I do know this from my own experiences in life. Odd and Connie were so relatable and I understood them. Mr Meredith is a very very talented writer to wring out all of your emotions and tears.

Simply brilliant
Literally had me hooked from the start and I don't think I've read anything quite like it. It stirred every single emotion in me and didn't just tear at the heart strings it absolutely ripped them out numerous times. Simply brilliant and very thought provoking, a real master piece from Peter

Awesome read
This book took me through all the emotions known. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I am hoping that there is more to Sprite and let’s hope that the universe turns in her favor. Great author!!!
