Veda is damaged. When Veda was 12 years-old she and her mom left behind their hometown and the scene of an ugly divorce to move into an odd little house with a peculiar past located in the rural town of Belmore, Missouri. When Veda meets the coolest girl in school Sass (aka Sasha) on her first day at Belmore Middle School she thinks things are beginning to look up for her. However, what ensues is a twisty and tumultuous toxic friendship that grows between the two girls throughout their school years until disaster strikes in the form of Sass’s death at an innocent teenage sleepover. Now, an adult Veda attempts to unravel the trauma of her friend's death within her childhood home by researching the mysteries that surround the house and its former occupants. But what Veda finds isn’t the happily ever after she was hoping for. Told through multiple narrators and back and forth timelines, Soil is a novel that explores what people can be capable of when pushed to their limits.

In the 1980s, Stacy heard her mom say a sentence that would transform into a dream and eventually become her reality. Her mom told her, "I could see you becoming a writer." This statement sparked a possibility in Stacy's mind that would take years to develop into her passion. Fortunately, with the unwavering support of family and friends, the dream she had envisioned years earlier finally came to fruition.

In addition to her love of writing and reading, Stacy has a particular fondness for horror stories, which she incorporates into her work. Her books are published through a small independent publishing company called Solstice Publishing, and they encompass multiple genres, including psychological thrillers, mystery, drama, and, of course, horror!

When she isn't writing or scaring herself unnecessarily, Stacy enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, exploring their home state of Kansas City, or traveling and finding new adventures together. She loves connecting with her readers and sharing her passion for books with them!

I enjoyed the concept of this book. The interest was there and I read it rather quickly; however, the "repeating" sentences was a little rough for me and A LOT of unnecessary added detail that didn't add to the story. I feel like this could've been a quarter the amount of pages shorter. However, Veda and her mother move to a brand new built home on a piece of land that Veda finds out later has a bit of a hard history dating back to the late 1800's. When she digs a little deeper she finds out the reason, the true reasons, for all these deaths in the homes before...built on that plot. Elizabeth's story was interesting to get to know and the author really makes you feel for her and her innocence. This was a great concept for a book but the execution fell a little flat for me.

A Haunting Page Turner
I enjoyed this horror novel for its haunting story that goes back through generations. The protagonist offers analysis of her own nature, that of the people around her, and her views on the society she lives in throughout. One can detect the subtle differences in her outlook as a teenager as compared to her adult perspectives. The ending took me by surprise. I appreciated the vivid characters in this book and the spheres of healing woven into the story to address their frightening, devastating experiences.

I couldn't put it down!

This was a great first book from a budding new author!

The chapter endings drew me in and made me want to keep reading the next chapter way too late into the night!

I hope she continues to share her writing with the world and that the world appreciates her talent.
