Excellent mystery!!!

Paul Pilkington did an excellent job with his characters. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I originally bought the kindle version for the first book, but when I got done, it wasn't enough. So I went back and bought the trilogy. Couldn't put it down!!!

The One: The Complete Emma Holden suspense mystery trilogy — Paul Pilkington (3 book set)

Per usual, brief descriptions here; complete reviews within titles. Overall review at end.

Book One: The One You Love (Prologue + 70 chapters) July 14-16, 2018 High 3 stars.
Emma’s fiancee has disappeared on her hen party night. Dan was suppose to show up at his stag party, but never did. When Emma and her brother, Will, go to his place, they find a violent scene has taken place, with Dan’s bro left for dead on the floor. What’s worse is that Dan has disappeared and no one knows where; he’s not answering his phone, but he’s leaving messages around town. Did Dan commit the crime? Lots of twists in this one; a real page-turner.

Book Two: The One You Fear (Prologue + 37 chapters) July 17-19, 2018 Low 3 stars.
Emma and Dan go on vacation to a swanky apartment with a view to try and put the past behind them. Emma’s starts seeing her nemesis from book one and becomes paranoid. They decide to head back to London only after a few days. Emma keeps seeing her nemesis, although that’s unrealistic. Really slow plot until last five or six chapters, then book picks up. The first 3/4 has a plodding plot; the last few chapters are written much more like the first book.

Book Three: The One You Trust (Prologue + 48 chapters + Epilogue) July 21-23, 2018 High 4 stars.
While Emma and Dan are on their honeymoon, Lizzy starts receiving disturbing messages. Who can she trust? Will has second thoughts about his new love interest, and Edward strives to be a good dad, but still struggles not to overprotect. Is the nightmare finally over, or just beginning?

This was a real bookends kind of trilogy. The first and last books were the strongest, but the middle one is needed for more background build-up for the third. I really liked the characters. I felt connected to them and none of them were icky, not even the dad who seemed pretty aloof, but was really just trying to hard. I loved how the characters grew in each book, and how there was an acceptance to who and what each were.

Very well written, with finely drawn characters. A real pleasure to finally read this series. I never thought at the end of this trilogy I would be saying I loved it, as it had a vibe about it from the get-go. But I do truly love this book.

I knocked a 1/2 star off the set and the third book for having an epilogue. It really was not needed at all, unless there was a significance here that I am overlooking.)

Four stars.

The first book was the best.

I really enjoyed the first book, it kept you in suspense. The second book was okay and the third one was a little better than the second one. I felt like the third book had a lot of jumping around in it.
