Rate this book
Drew Mallam’s life changed forever in a moment of madness. Haunted by his crime, Drew feels a calling to seek redemption on the Camino de Santiago.Drew tackles the physical and mental challenges on one of the epic long distance Caminos the Via de la Plata from Seville. On The Way Drew encounters other pilgrims with their own reasons to answer the call of the Camino.Camino Calling addresses the hopes, fears and expectations pilgrims have on The Way.The daily toil of walking the Via de la Plata from Seville is a Calvary which causes Drew to search his soul.Drew experiences the many highs and lows of Camino life as he moves step by painful step closer to his goal. Can the Camino give Drew peace of mind and stop his nightmares? Millions have made the pilgrimage to the tomb of Saint James the apostle in Santiago de Compostela, Spain for more than a thousand years. Countless others are planning to follow in their footsteps, Camino Calling is a novel written for them. Camino Calling is fiction - not a memoir. It is written to appeal to those who have already completed one or more Caminos, as well as armchair pilgrims. The book explores spiritual issues of faith, belief and religion as well as PTSD and adult topics of a sexual nature which some readers may find challenging.

Camino Calling will appeal to readers of The Path to Rome by Hilaire Belloc, South from Granada by Gerald Brenan, As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning by Laurie Lee, A Time of Gifts by Patrick Leigh Fermor, La Familia de Pascual Duarte by Camilo Cela, Eight Feet in the Andes by Dervla Murphy (in fact anything by Dervla Murphy), Under a Sickle Moon by Peregrine Hodson, Clear Waters Rising by Nicholas Crane, Like a Tramp, Like a Pilgrim by Harry Bucknall, Off the Road by Jack Hitt (and the 2010 film The Way starring Martin Sheen), The Way, My Way by Bill Bennett, Ich Bin Dann Mal Weg (I’m Off Then) by Hape Kerkeling, Spanish Steps by Tim Moore, Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, On Foot Across France by Tim Salmon, and The Man Who Broke out of the Bank - and went for a walk in France by Miles Morland.

Would you read a book that the author would not give a 5-star review for? Of course not.
As the novelist I enjoy reading and re-reading Camino Calling. I sincerely hope you do to. Hope it reminds you of Caminos you have walked or inspires you to hike The Way to Santiago de Compostela for religious, spiritual or a million and one other reasons. Buen Camino!
