It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas . . .
When Rocco Moretti gets the chance to buy a coffee shop in a small Illinois town, it feels like a miracle. And in true Christmas Falls tradition, Jolly Java is a holiday-flavored one.
He sets up shop and starts experimenting with recipes. The only problem? His changes go over like a piece of coal on Christmas morning. Instead of serving up cups of holiday cheer, he's getting a solid "bah humbug" vibe from the town.
He needs another miracle, stat.
Enter Deputy Mayor Taylor Hall.
Taylor wants the mayor's job when she retires, but his holiday dream is melting because he doesn't have a family to win over the voters. The mayor told him even a boyfriend would help.
The only problem? Taylor doesn't have one.
But Rocco needs the town's acceptance, and what better way than dating the deputy mayor? Faking it till they make it will be a means to an end. That's all.
But sharing the holiday season wins over more than the town's hearts. With each date, each mistletoe kiss, and every steamy night in front of the fire, it wins over theirs as well.
Come Christmas morning, there's really only one miracle Rocco wants under his tree.
For the love they've been faking to become real.
Christmas Season 2 revisits a small town that thrives on enough holiday charm to rival any Hallmark movie. It's a multi-author M/M romance series.
A lifelong Oregonian, Beth Bolden has just recently moved to North Carolina with her supportive husband and their sweet kitten, Earl Grey. Beth still believes in Keeping Portland Weird, and intends to be just as weird in Raleigh.
Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. She’s published fourteen novels and five short stories.
I always love a Moretti story so I was very happy to see Rocco getting his own HEA! I swear every book with a Moretti makes me so hungry though, their food always sounds so amazing and then I get mad because I don't want to cook for myself, I need a Moretti chef!
I really liked this approach to fake dating, it was slow burn and reluctant and it was being done for actual reasons, not just because they had a crush on each other! That other job candidate was an awful human and I'm kinda intrigued around what's going to happen with the wife that was left behind because she was so delusional!
Taylor's past hurt was definitely holding him back and it was so enjoyable to see him loosening the reigns on his controlled persona so that he could really embrace the Christmas Falls community spirit, and also find love and happiness for himself.
Rocco's business venture and his epic failure were really endearing - he just wants to make his mark in the Moretti kingdom and I wanted to hug him when he kept getting sad! I also really wanted to try his Marzipan Latte too and I'm not even a fan of Marzipan or coffee 😂😂
Can't wait to see what comes next in Christmas Falls!

I received an ARC of this book from Neon Rainbow, and this is my honest review
Beth's Moretti family are amongst my most favourite fictional people in her connected world and I've been dying for Rocco's romance since getting first appeared.
That she's back in Christmas Falls, which is a truly delightful multi author series, is just a bonus on top.
This book's plot combines two of my favourite tropes too, fake dating and idiots in love, as Rocco hatches a hairbrained scheme with the Deputy Town Mayor Taylor, to help him win the City Manager's job and to rehabilitate Rocco's café reputation following a monumental error to remove pumpkin spice latte from his menu!
Of course from the off the reader knows where this is going, as the chemistry between them is sizzling hot, but they're also both super kind guys, who genuinely love the town and want it to thrive.
No spoilers here off course, but this was just what I want in a festival set novella, and Beth always brings the right level of detail to flesh out the narrative without turning it into an info dump.
Add in the right amount of swoony versus sexy, and you get a really lovely romance with plenty of humour as well.
#ARC kindly received from the author via Neon Rainbow ARC Reviews, I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was cute. Fake relationships that turn into real relationships are usually a lot of fun to read, and this was no exception. Both Taylor and Rocco were fully realized characters with a lot of charm and sex appeal. No wonder they fell for each other!
I loved this! It was such an easy, low angst read, full of festive feels and with an enjoyable romance between the new guy in town, Rocco, and the current deputy mayor, Taylor. Both have something to prove to the small town of Christmas Falls and when the idea comes up of a fake relationship, it seems as though it will help them both get what they want. What they didn't really anticipate, was falling for each other. I really enjoyed how the story unfolds. The Moretti name is famous for fans of Beth's series'. To have one in Christmas Falls makes it even better. Rocco is a sweet guy who just wants to make it on his own, away from that crazy, huge family of his but he made a misstep in making too many changes too soon at the coffee shop he took over. Taylor having only lived in town for four years and being single goes against him for the job he's hoping to get and so being in a relationship with each other is a win win for them both. It's a low angst romance so there's no dramatics when it comes to a fake and real relationship, and the two men obviously belong together. They get along so well from the start and have a great chemistry. The townspeople are a fickle bunch but clearly care about those in their community and everyone gets their HEA. Highly recommended and a wonderful addition to the new Christmas Falls series. There is discussion of grief as Taylor talks about the loss of his mum, years before, that still affects him. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Coming back to Christmas Falls is like a group hug from friends you haven't seen in a while.
And when it involves a Moretti, well, even better!
Rocco is new to town, and if you have ever moved into a small town from the city, you will understand this book so much more. How they don't always like new comers. How dare you make or suggest changes. I felt Rocco and his bakery dilemma to my core.
I also felt the "you have to be married/partnered up to be what we need" deal that Taylor is dealing with.
And I love a Christmas fauxmance. The small town festival. The town watching Taylor and Rocco fall in love - even when they don't even realise they are doing it.
There are some townspeople that I just love in this series and they make me really want to visit and be their friends!
I love that we saw more of the Morettis et al, and hope we get more in the future.
This book was fake dating cuteness. Rocco is new in town and made the terrible mistake of changing the beloved Jolly Java menu too soon and too fast. Taylor is the Deputy Mayor with aspirations for City Manager when suddenly there’s competition running against him. These two devise a plan to help build each other’s reputations and it works. As is the case with all fake dating, it works a little too well.
I did enjoy these two together, they had some really cute moments together … but unfortunately, they just left me wanting more. More of them getting to know each other and pining for each other and falling in love.
And I wanted more of Christmas Falls. Last year’s series had so much charm and whimsy imbedded in this town, whereas here there was no sparkle … just dull activities that didn’t live up to the magic.
Tho now I’m dying to try a marzipan latte, thank you very much. 😂
It was just like reading a good book on a snowy day with a warm cup of… coffee. Well, with a cup of tea for me since I don’t drink (or even like) coffee. However, after reading Flake It Til You Make It, and just like Taylor did, I would be willing to taste Rocco’s marzipan latte, or anything that he would cook or bake!
I spent a great time while reading Rocco and Taylor story. It started with a mutually benefiting fake relationship that soon turned into a real one. I loved the small and grand gestures they did for each other, and I especially enjoyed the Moretti’s family gathering in Christmas Falls. If you’re familiar with the author’s universe, you’ll recognize a few characters from previous works. All in all, you’re up for a really good time with this story and probably some cravings too!
Thanks to Neon Rainbow ARC Review, I received an advanced reviewer copy (ARC) for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Leave it to Beth Bolden to deliver a low angst, fake dating masterpiece that’s high on swoon and heavy on holiday magic. She captures the very best of small town holiday romance, layering nostalgia with tons of emotion in a hurt/comfort romance that’ll leave you feeling warm & fuzzy inside. I loved this one from beginning to end. That Moretti charm is in full effect, and it’s just what I needed. Did I mention it’s swoony? The swooniest..
I love Rocco Moretti. How could I not? He’s sweet, passionate, caring, and ambitious. Being part of the large Moretti clan has given him the confidence to embark on a journey of confectionary greatness, working to carve out his niche and build something all his own. Taking a chance on a coffee shop in tiny, holiday-obsessed Christmas Falls is risky, but he thinks he has the recipe for success: purchase town icon, make sensible updates, and prepare for many successful years to come. Imagine his surprise when putting his stamp on things leads to a sour reception.
Taylor Hall embodies the magic of Christmas Falls. Growing up and making annual visits with his family means he understands how special this community is and the need to cultivate and protect it. I admire his dedication and devotion to the town he’s adopted as his own.
Rocco and Taylor are the absolute sweetest. United by their outsider status, their decision to join forces for their mutual gain is genius. Fake dating to improve their chances of winning people over? What could possibly go wrong?
If their obvious attraction is any indication, plenty. The spark is there from the very beginning, and watching it grow into more is the stuff dreams are made of. I dare you not to get absolutely swept away by all the warm, gooey affection between them.
*I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book*
Loving being back in Christmas Falls! And this time we have Rocco and Taylor’s story! Rocco Moretti knows he messed up. He bought Jolly Java with so much hope that he could make it a success. Mixing the old and new. But perhaps he was a bit too ambitious with his menu. And in doing so he scared off the locals. Now barely anyone comes into his shop. He needs a bit of help getting back into the town’s good graces. Enter Taylor Hall. Taylor has been in Christmas Falls for the last four years as the deputy mayor and when a spot on the town council opens up, he wants it more than ever. But his boss, the current mayor, advises him that he needs to step out from behind the scenes and be seen by those in town doing good. And it doesn’t help if he is in a relationship either. And when Rocco comes up with the crazy idea that the two of them should pretend to date to help one another? Well both are a bit desperate. And it doesn’t help that the two of them may already have a crush on each other. But a real relationship isn’t a good idea…right? Well, we’ll see how long these two last! I really loved Rocco and Taylor’s story! It was also a big reminder that I still need to read the other Morettis’s stories! Especially after seeing them make some cameos. But Rocco and Taylor were so sweet. I loved how these two fell in love and took their time as they figured out if they could take the chance on one another. Another great addition to this series!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
After reading Rivalry, I totally fell in love with Beth's writing, and have since fangirled over everything she's brought to the table. I adore the way in which she brings characters from her various series together, I do love a good crossover. Rocco, one of THE Morettis, has moved away from his somewhat smothering family.
He's trying his hand at running a coffee/bakery shop in Christmas Falls, which isn't going great. Here he meets Taylor, who has problems of his own. Taylor needs a significant other, and Rocco needs a miracle to save his business. The solution? A fake relationship, of course! What follows is a heartwarming journey as Rocco and Taylor navigate the complexities of their fake romance. As they spend more time together, the lines between fiction and reality begin to blur. The chemistry between the two is palpable, and their performances as fake lovers are both funny and endearing. They're really convincing together. Rocco is just so adorable, funny, sexy, kind, gentle, respectful and loving. He's such a likeable character, and just what Taylor needs in his life. I really liked seeing them together and seeing their relationship develop and grow. The ending is glorious, I loved reading about all of the Morettis turning up to celebrate Rocco and Taylor together 😍
Flake It Til You Make It is the second book in the ‘Christmas Falls: Season 2’ series. It stars Rocco Moretti, a coffee shop owner, and Taylor Hall, Deputy Mayor of Christmas Falls. This is told in third person from Rocco and Taylor’s povs.
First the cover. I’m not sure who that is on the cover. I don’t think it’s Rocco because if I remember correctly, Rocco had very dark eyes. Unfortunately, this doesn’t look like Taylor either. So, I don’t think the cover fits either character.
The blurb is pretty accurate. It explains the basic premise of the plot with the actions of the characters revolving around that plot. Rocco bought a treasured coffee shop in the town and then changed the whole menu around, which only irked people off and they stopped patronizing his shop. He wanted to get back in their good graces but didn’t know how. Taylor was newish in town. He wanted to apply for the mayor’s job when she planned on retiring soon. He needed to appear more committed to the town, and that included having a partner to form a family. The mayor suggested he fake date. Taylor didn’t like that idea but it was the only way. Rocco agreed to help.
The trope was grumpy and sunshine. Rocco was hyper, loved to experiment with new foods and drinks, and was determined to succeed. Taylor was uptight, focused on his current job, didn’t advertise his achievements, and preferred working behind the scenes. He needed to show the citizens of Christmas Falls that he could socialize and show his face more about town as their representative. The author did a good job of creating two distinct characters. However, I did have trouble believing in these two as a couple. Maybe it was because they were too different, maybe because both men were determined to do things on their own. Maybe because Rocco was excitable and didn’t seem like a match for Taylor. Whatever the reason, I had trouble believing in them as a couple.
Even though this book is a stand-alone, there are returning characters from Season One’s books. I’d suggest at least reading the first book from Season One to get an idea of what Christmas Falls is all about, and a little background of some of the residents of the town. One of the scenes includes Rocco’s family descending on Christmas Falls for the holidays. It introduced a lot of his cousins and their partners, which looks like they all have books of their own from another series. I may check those out because the whole family sounds interesting.
Flake It Til You Make It has lots of Christmas atmosphere with a fake-dating couple. I couldn’t quite believe in Rocco and Taylor as a couple, they just seemed too different and Taylor didn’t seem to make enough personal changes to work at being a couple. Honestly, this story didn’t stick with me so, I’m going to have to give it 3 Stars.
It’s a holiday hug and a cosy evening reading with the drink of choice. it’s fabulous
Rating: 5🌈
How I live for the Morettis! Doesn’t matter what series or circumstances Bolden is putting them in on their way to a HEA, it’s a culinary Italian fabulous journey.
Christmas Falls that imaginary small town that’s all things Christmas is now getting the Bolden touch again in it’s second season as a Moretti has moved to town!
This story was everything. I’m a huge fan of Bolden’s, her ability to create real life stories and relatable characters, pulling the reader into their relationships and circumstances. But here? It’s a holiday story, where we get familiar characters, heartwarming themes, a wonderful romance, mouthwatering food (wanted that lasagna so bad), and the fabulous Moretti clan. Be still my heart!
Rocco Moretti has moved to Christmas Falls to carve out his own niche in the Moretti family of chefs and restaurateurs. He’s bought out a longtime favorite coffee shop, Jolly Java, to make his own and settle down. But things go wrong almost immediately.
Bolden sets up a faked boyfriend story during the holidays but with a twist when the Deputy Mayor Taylor Hall, needs a boyfriend for his interview and Rocco needs helps winning the town back after a goat cheese fiasco. Let a lovely heartwarming romance and relationship between these wonderful men begin. With the town fully invested.
This romance and the development of the men’s relationship made my night. It’s a holiday hug and a cosy evening reading with the drink of choice.
Highly recommended any time of the year but especially at Christmas.Don’t miss out on the recipe at the end.

AHHHH! We're back to Christmas Falls for Seasons Two!! Here's Beth Bolden's "Flake It Til You Make It."
["It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas . . .
When Rocco Moretti gets the chance to buy a coffee shop in a small Illinois town, it feels like a miracle. And in true Christmas Falls tradition, Jolly Java is a holiday-flavored one.

For the love they've been faking to become real."]
This one was a little angst-y, but the pure adorableness of it all made it better. These two were a little stupid to think that their already-their feelings wouldn't grow and grow while they "fake dated." But the fluff and the steam and the town's support were perfect.
And the constant use of their in-case-feelings-happen safe-word. Goodness flipping gracious. So many feelings, sooooo many uses of their safe word. ;) But it brought them together, and without it, who knows where they'd be.
Plus all of the cookies and meddling friends and all of the references to a series I haven't read yet (but reeeeeaaaaally want to right now).
Having read a few of Beth Bolden's books featuring Moretti's, I had a vague idea of what to expect when we were introduce to Rocco, the new owner of Jolly Java. Just like the other members of his family, Rocco has some really big ideas about the direction he wants to take his café, but some of those ideas don't necessarily appeal to the community of Christmas Falls. They're rather averse to change, and Rocco, well, he wants to change a lot.
But when he introduces himself to Taylor, the deputy mayor, Rocco decides to take matters into his own hands. He comes up with a plan where both men get what they want - Rocco gets his café back in the good graces of the town, and Taylor solidifies his candidacy for the open city manager position. They just have to be a little sneaky to do it.
They can pretend to be hopelessly in love for the sake of getting what they want, right? Right. But of course, nothing goes quite according to plan.
It's not long before both Rocco and Taylor start catching feelings. For Taylor, it's been a long time since he's let himself feel anything for anyone else, and he's afraid. His last relationship hurt him terribly, and he doesn't want to feel that way again. He also wants to prove his commitment to the town, and to the community. But Rocco breaks through most, if not all, his defences in a very short while. Though Taylor's broken through all of his own reservations, too.
There are a few hiccups along the way, a few minor moments of tension, but soon Rocco and Taylor learn how best to communicate, and how to tell each other just how much they care for each other. And in classic Moretti dramatics, Taylor gets to meet the entire family and generally get adopted by a group of extremely rambunctious Italian chefs.
Seeing some familiar faces was very fun, and hit me right in the nostalgia. But it really is great to see all of the Moretti men happy and settled. And while Rocco and Taylor may be new members to that list, there's a lot more Christmas Falls magic left to uncover - including who this elusive Secret Santa may be.
Starting out as a slow burn, means to an end, fake-situationship, this book takes you on a journey of not only love, but career success.
Rocco had bought the coffee shop, Jolly Java, from the previous owners. Making a mistake he couldn't afford to do, he set himself up to fail right at the beginning.
Enter Taylor, Deputy Mayor, here to help citizens and business owners.😏 His goal is to be promoted into an open position, but he is single and a workaholic.
With the two of them fake dating each other, their hope is to get Rocco business to succeed and help Taylor prove to the town council he is perfect for this job. With all that comes some tension and a little bit of fun drama that was a really nice touch.
It is a slow burn. It took a while to get to a true 'light bulb' moment. It was a bit irritating it did take sooo long because of how it was written, however, the big reveal was sweet as cookies, I had tears pooling. I dont think it could have been more perfect.
The Spice was hott! 4/5🌶! Their chemistry was amazing and I loved how the author went into detail describing how they were learning about each others bodies and what they liked compared to the other. Everyone likes their own 'stroke'.
The ensemble was great! Season 1 characters were a part of the plot, and a scene or 2 from book 1 & 4 of Season 2 were overlapped from their perspective. So far, this season has been better about crossover plot/character development from book to book compared to last season.
Big Italian Family Representation!!! Rocco is a sweetheart. Omg! I picture him as a little Mighty Mouse. Lol! I love how Taylor just excepts what he's gotten himself into and goes with the flow of all the excitement. Rocco's family also has their own books: ON A ROLL RIDE OR DIE SWEET AS PIE CHERRY ON TOP I will definitely be looking into them to experience the loud and rambunctious family.
Well that was fun! Flake It Til You Make It takes the fake dating for the holidays trope to a whole new level. It’s a return to Christmas Falls and the romcom vibes are off the charts. Rocco Moretti has angered the good folks of Christmas Falls by renovating Jolly Java and daring to change the menu. Their cold shoulder is effecting his bottom line. Taylor Hall has aspirations of being mayor one day. But for now he’ll settle for City Manager if he can convince the town council he’s a better candidate than the new arrival candidate who claims to be local royalty and has aspirations of state office. Taylor and Rocco may agree to fake date to help their professional prospects, but it’s obvious these two lovely men are destined to be together. And Rocco Moretti is no stranger to fake dating- having seen it work out with his own family. This is such a fun, low angst story. Bonus points for Taylor getting Rocco so completely. When Rocco tells him “Food is a love language, you know?” he sees how much the town rejecting Rocco’s attempts to show them that hurt him. Their fake dates are adorable. And wooing with fireplaces, almond cookies, and Prosecco are a master class in doing things right. I wanted to add how much I liked this wasn’t overly saccharinated and Beth wasn’t afraid to make some of the townspeople a**holes. They may live Christmas 365 days a year, but they’re not so good with change. Or overlooking a man who epitomizes the spirit of the town for one who was born there. Ugh. No. These two transplants are just what the town needs, and happily they get over themselves. (And as someone who can’t stand PSL I totally get Rocco’s reasoning.) There is a huge family reunion (hello boisterous Morettis and Taylor’s quieter but gregarious father!) The epilogue is amazing and left me with a huge smile on my face. I may never think of goat cheese the same way.
Let me start with saying I have a huge soft spot for these Christmas Falls books! Combine that with my love for Beth Bolden’s books/writing and this is of course a match made in heaven. I was excited from the moment I read the Indigo Bay books and found out that this year’s Christmas Falls book from Beth would be about Rocco. And what a book it was!
It is great to see Rocco finding his own way here in Christmas Falls and his match with Taylor is terrific. It is sweet, hesitant,”genuine”(wink) and sexy.
The fake boyfriend trope is not new or surprising yet the author has a way of working around that part and made sure it didn’t come out boring or overdone.
The build up to Rocco and Tayler getting together in the complete sense of the word is slow but not too slow. It is lovely to read how they turn each other around and being hesitant. I loved reading it.
I’ll even admit that I loved that more than the part when they get together and there are a lot of sexy times there.
I am a huge fan of the story and the build up and while I definitely like some sexyness in my stories, it is the story itself that makes me want to keep reading.
Adding in the Christmas joy and the family feeling of the town of Christmas Falls and you have a winner.
But that wasn’t enough! Beth Bolden decided to throw in a Moretti family gathering and blew that out of the park! So awesome!
I happily enjoyed reading this book and will definitely enjoy more of the Christmas Falls books but like I said the combination of this series, the author writing the book and the main character was a win/win for me.
Throw in that this author is also a queen in epilogue/bonus scenes and there is even more to enjoy.
I absolutely adore the Moretti family, so when I saw that Rocco was getting his own romance in the town of Christmas Falls I was eager to find out more. His and Taylor's story was a delightful and cozy romance that perfectly captured the spirit of the holidays--and I will be the first to admit that I am super picky about my holiday reads. I enjoyed Taylor and Rocco's banter in the beginning, their sizzly attraction that built over fake dates that didn't feel all that fake, and their journey to win over the locals and turn their dream careers into a reality. For a relationship that started out as simply a means to an end, Rocco and Taylor's developed naturally into a meaningful, deep bond that exposed the loneliness they'd both been feeling without a partner to share their lives with. Between Rocco opening up about his passion to create a cozy space for the town to gather in and Taylor sharing why preserving Christmas Falls's traditions was so important to him, these two had my heart all the way invested in their happiness and success. I loved watching them grow closer and become more integrated into the town, and despite a few little ups and downs their journey was wonderfully low-angst and uplifting. I thought Rocco and Taylor's chemistry was incredible, and their romance was the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. All in all I can't think of anything I didn't love about this story, from the characters to their love connection to the town itself and all the people Rocco and Taylor interacted with along the way.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
3.5 stars - This installment of the second season of Christmas Falls was full of small town antics but left me wanting more from the couple and more Christmas Falls in general.
Rocco Moretti is the new owner of Jolly Java and after making some changes to the menu, he’s lost a number of Christmas Falls regulars and is struggling to win them back. Taylor Hall is the deputy mayor with his eye on the prize of becoming city manager next, but a former Christmas Falls native challenging that has him scrambling to be the most appealing option. They craft a plan to get Rocco back into the Christmas Falls residents’ good graces and to show that Taylor has roots in Christmas Falls - fake dating, of course!
They try to keep things professional, but they’re both feeling things they shouldn’t and things get complicated for a bit before they finally talk things out. While they were cute together, I felt like Rocco and Taylor’s story was built so much on the fake relationship and navigating that that they didn’t really spend much time getting to know one another, which made the story fall a bit flat for me even though it had promise. And, even though this is a standalone story in the Christmas Falls series, I felt like I was missing a lot of backstory because I haven’t read any of the Moretti family stories by Beth Bolden. As someone who likes to know all of the characters’ backstories, I was a bit frustrated.
I also missed some of the Christmas Falls fun - even though Rocco and Taylor attended some festival events together, it just felt perfunctory some of the time, not like they were seriously interested in becoming part of the town. Not my favorite trip to Christmas Falls, but still looking forward to the rest of the stories!
I absolutely adore Christmas Falls and this story was yet another fantastic addition to this series. Taylor is determined to get the promotion he's been wanting for years, but the town doesn't see him as qualified because he's not 'settled down.' Rocco lost the citizens of Christmas Falls's support after changing too many things on his menu too fast. Both of them need help getting the town's support, and what better way to do that then fake dating.
The thing is though... It didn't stay fake for long, even though these two men fought against their feelings. I thought this was a great romance story full of holiday cheer, and a wonderful small town community. I liked the chemistry Rocco and Taylor had with each other, before they had agreed on fake dating there was a connection between these two. And once they did start fake dating and getting to know one another better, that connection and chemistry grew exponentially.
I loved that the passion and dreams that both Rocco and Taylor have was so pronounced in the story. I liked that there were multiple scenes of Rocco making coffee, and baking his scones and pastries, and how there was multiple scenes of Taylor trying to win the town over. I thought both of their professions was written well and in a very believable way.
Seeing the Morretti clan make an appearance made me smile, it was so nice to 'see' them again. The fake dating trope was featured in this story as well as found family, and small town shenanigans. And this isn't a trope but goat cheese also played an important role too.
This book is part of the multi-author Christmas Falls Season 2 series. Each book is a standalone read. This is the story of Rocco Moretti and Taylor Hall. Rocco has bought a local institution coffee shop. In his rush to put his stamp on it, he has taken away all the local favorites. He made the rookie mistake of too much change too fast. Suddenly, he has no local traffic coming through at all. He is trying to correct his mistake but he needs a way to show everyone that he is now a local too. Taylor has always loved Christmas Falls. His family would visit every year for the holidays. He has lived here now for about four years. He has the job of deputy mayor. He is trying to secure the job of city manager. His boss and friend tells him that city council isn't sure he is here to stay. He has to show them that he has a reason to want to stay. Rocco and Taylor meet one night at the bar. A wild premise to help both of them is suggested. A fake relationship that will allow both of them to get what they want. This is their story. As with any story that includes a Moretti, food plays a major part in this story. I liked how Rocco and Taylor went from relative strangers to friends. The two of them were a perfect foil for the other. The book is well written and easy to read. I really loved this book. It is low angst, fake dating holiday book that you will be sure to enjoy.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved reading this sweet and spicy fake romance story. We all know that in the fake romance trope the couple will end up together. What makes each story different and fun is the way that the author gets the couple to their HEA.
I was so happy that there wasn’t too much relationship angst in this story. Other than them not wanting to admit they want the fake relationship to become real, there wasn’t any real painful drama between Rocco and Taylor. There was a spark of attraction the first time they met but neither was in any position to begin a romance but when they decided to fake date to help each other the attraction couldn’t be contained.
All of the fun activities taking place in this story almost had me wishing I still lived where the air is crisp and there’s sometimes snow at Christmas. (I said almost – LOL) I loved the coziness of Rocco and Taylor snuggling by the fire and the mentions of ice skating and hot drinks to keep them warm.
I love how this book was connected to other books that Beth has written and yet it stands perfectly fine on its own. I’m a fairly new fan of her writing so I haven’t read all of her books about the Morettis (Rocco’s family) but I still enjoyed the cameos found in this story.
The Christmas Falls: Season 2 books can easily be read as standalone stories so jump in anywhere.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
dreamy sigh* Rocco's romance was swoony and full of holiday magic, a perfect low angst read. It's almost like a smore in book form. Rich, sweet, warm and absolutely gooey.
Rocco Moretti is an absolute delight. I've loved all the Moretti's, but he cracked me up the most. He's endearing, his high hopes and big dreams instantly making me sympathetic to his small business owner struggles. You can't even hold the PSL against him, he's just too earnest and sweet!
Taylor Hall is also hard working and dedicated, with a more serious nature that makes him no less romantic a figure. He's a pillar of Christmas Falls community, but his behind the scenes work leaves him in a position where he feels he needs to look better to get the promotion he wants.
Rocco and Taylor are both feeling a little like outcasts and unite to prove they've earned a place in Christmas Falls. While I adore the town and the series set up, I loved getting to see a little imperfection in the Hallmark worthy setting. It made it feel even more real (and seriously, I wish I could visit so bad lol).
It's a clever and unique set up for fake dating, which I appreciated. Of course, there's nothing fake about the attraction they have to each other. Watching them grow into a power couple was magical, and Rocco's fierce loyalty was SWOONY. Taylor was *chef's kiss* stoic in the streets but passionate in the sheets.
Make yourself a hot cocoa and cuddle up with this one, and enjoy being swept away!
When Rocco Moretti gets the chance to buy a coffee shop in a small Illinois town, it feels like a miracle. And in true Christmas Falls tradition, Jolly Java is a holiday-flavoured one. He sets up shop and starts experimenting with recipes. The only problem? His changes go over like a piece of coal on Christmas morning. Instead of serving up cups of holiday cheer, he's getting a solid "bah humbug" vibe from the town. With the town’s city manager retiring, Deputy Mayor Taylor Hall is looking to make a leadership move, but his dream is melting because the city council still sees him as an outsider. He needs to prove he's in Christmas Falls to stay, and what better way than by getting a boyfriend? Even a fake one. Rocco needs the town's acceptance, so why not date the deputy mayor? Faking it till they make it will be a means to an end. That's all. But sharing the holiday season wins over more than the town's hearts. With each date, each mistletoe kiss, and every steamy night in front of the fire, it wins over theirs as well. Come Christmas morning, there's really only one miracle Rocco wants under his tree. For the love they've been faking to become real.
This was a sweet Christmas story as the two men who were fake dating fell in love and also solved their problems too. I liked the way that they were able to use the Christmas events as their dates. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
Rocco wants to run a successful coffee shop, but he makes too many changes too fast, and the town boycotts his place.
Taylor is the deputy mayor and wants a job doing more city planning, but the board doesn’t think he’s old enough and he’s single so he won’t be committed to Christmas Falls.
The two hatch an idea to fake date, and as people see them together, they begin to shop up at the cafe. Taylor is at a number of festival events with Rocco, so people also see all the work he’s doing, it’s just he’s more visible instead of working behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, a real romance is forming, and both Rocco and Taylor want things to work out for the other. Rocco manages to find Taylor’s Mom’s cookie recipe, while Taylor gets Rocco into the cookie exchange he’d been refused for.
They get all their wishes when Taylor is rewarded the job he wants and Rocco gets a busy shop as he’d envisioned. Their families come to visit for Christmas, which adds a sense of celebration to all they’ve achieved, not least of which is finding each other.
A fun story, I love Rocco, a Moretti related to others from other Bolden worlds, and someone who wants to share his love of food with everyone and be part of his new community.
I received this ARC for free and am glad to provide my honest review in appreciation.
This multi-author series was my favorite last year and it's holding the top spot with this season. This installment from Beth Bolden will definitely be hit for readers new to and familiar with her books. For those familiar with her characters, you'll be happy to see a familiar name in Rocco Moretti. However, this is a bit of a double-edge sword as I think the story is most enjoyable if you are familiar with the Moretti family already.
Rocco is new to Christmas Falls and makes the mistake of changing things up too soon when he takes over the local bakery/coffee shop. Desperate to endear himself with the locals, he gets help from Taylor. For his part, Taylor is vying for the city manager position and has some competition for the office, so he needs to stand out to the city residents as the best choice. Together, they decide that fake dating is the way to win over the town.
As is always the case, fake dating leads to very real feelings. It was fun to see Rocco and Taylor attending festivals and events around Christmas Falls, though I would have liked to see a little more depth in them getting to know one another. There is a bit of a miscommunication/not being forthcoming about their evolving feelings, but they get it figured out with relatively little angst. Overall, it's a sweet holiday read and a fun example of the fake dating trope.
The Christmas Falls series is fantastic, and Beth Bolden's contribution to Season 2 is just as fascinating and fulfilling as her contribution to the first season of these great books.
The plot is simple, Taylor Hall wants the job in City Hall and Rocco Moretti wants to overcome the mistakes he made in changing the inventory of a coffee shop he bought. The locals were not happy with the changes, and to demonstrate his desire to make good to the people of Christmas Falls, he returns some treasured entrees. Taylor believes a fake relationship with Rocco will show that the two see a future in Christmas Falls worth giving the City Hall job to Taylor and to make Rocco's store loveable and popular again.
We know they are to end up together for real, but the journey is the pleasure in this book. There's some angst, some self-doubt and way-too-much angst over each of the two men's past partners.
But true love wins out and the journey, acceptance, small town love and great friendship makes this a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold night worthy. It's a beautiful story, weaving in facts from last season's entry, and pieces of the new Christmas Falls in season 2.
Beth Bolden has done a marvelous job with this series entry and I'm on to the rest of the books in this year's edition.
Back to Christmas Falls we go! Rocco Morretti is a new to the town and bought the popular coffee shop, Jolly Java and was eager to introduce the town to delicious new flavors of coffee. However, he made the mistake of changing too much too soon especially with getting rid of the Pumpkin Spice coffee and his business has suffered. He even added the Pumpkin Spice back to the menu but is still floundering. Taylor Hall moved to Christmas Falls several years ago and is the Deputy Mayor. He loves the town and hopes to be selected as the new town planner so he can help the town grow but not change its charm. He is warned that the town council is worried that he doesn't have anything that ties him to the community. He and Rocco meet and decide to "fake" date to help each other out. Taylor will help talk up Jolly Java and Rocco will help by showing that Taylor is in a stable relationship. The two men soon find out that they really enjoy each others company and are attracted to each other. This was such a sweet story and it was great to learn more about each MC. We get to see characters from other books and learn how their relationships have progressed. It makes me wish I lived in Christmas Falls.
I hate coffee and nobody will ever make anything that includes coffee that I would drink. Even the thought of pumpkin spice-flavoured coffee makes my stomach roil so I'm with Rocco (although tea runs through my English veins, so maybe I'm not his ideal customer either). For a community that practically exists to welcome outsiders to their Christmassy town, they weren't very nice or welcoming to Rocco and it didn't really ring true. They're not an isolated community that doesn't hold with new-fangled things, and they've embraced any number of newcomers in the two series so far. Although Rocco and Taylor went to some events, they didn't have much interaction with anyone else so it's a good job all the townspeople are nosey parkers who gossip as if it's going out of fashion. The fake dating was never really fake but there was a bit of a disconnect between them, somehow. I loved Rocco but Taylor was so closed-off, he was a harder sell until he finally let Rocco in. I loved seeing Jem and Murphy briefly, and although I haven't read the books starring Rocco's relatives, I was taken with Luca and Oliver and the rest of their big family so I may have to add some more books to my TBR.
Is it already time for another season of Christmas Falls? The holidays are fast approaching and my favorite time of the year for reading is here. I enjoyed season 1 of this series and how all the authors came together to make the town of Christmas Falls a winter wonderland. My first read in the new season with this book and I think season 2 is off to a great start!
Rocco Moretti has come to Christmas Falls to make his own mark on the world separate from his large and successful family. He’s ruffled a few marshmallows after taking over the Jolly Java and making some changes to some well loved favorites. A chance encounter with deputy mayor Taylor results in a fake dating arrangement to hopefully benefit both of their careers.
I loved the relationship with these two-one of my favorite things about the fake dating trope is when everyone else realizes there is that spark between the two characters and they are the last to know. That’s how it felt with these two. They have a chemistry together and the unsaid attraction builds into something more and I love reading that.
I can’t wait for more Christmas Falls holiday fun. I loved seeing cameos of characters from last season and looking forward to meeting all the new ones from this season!
