Butting heads leads to knocking boots in this wildly sexy enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, small town cowboy romance by Jessica Peterson.

My dad and I have been estranged for years. But as his only living relative, it’s no surprise I inherit his massive cattle ranch when he dies. Something that is a surprise? The stipulation in his will, which requires me to live on the ranch and actively manage it for a year before I can access my inheritance money.

I haven’t stepped foot in Hartsville, Texas, population one thousand, since my parents split when I was six. Now a city girl through and through, I never imagined having to move back to cowboy country. But I need the money to invest in my company, and a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

There’s just one giant roadblock to my plan: the ranch’s foreman, grumpy cowboy Cash Rivers. I don’t care how good he looks in his Wranglers and chaps. He’s rude, he’s growly, and he wants me gone. I’d fire him in a heartbeat, but I need this cowboy to teach me the ropes of running a ranch.

We’re enemies from the get-go. But turns out, Cash is really good at this ranch thing. He’s got strong hands, an intelligent mind, and let’s just say everything really is bigger in Texas. Working alongside him leads to conversations beneath the stars. Throw in some cheek-to-cheek dancing at the local dive bar, and it all feels so right that I start to fall in love with life on the ranch. And maybe with him, too.

But my stay in Hartsville is only temporary. And you know what they say about cowboys: they may break horses, but they also break hearts. If only Cash hadn’t already lassoed mine…

CASH is the first standalone book in the brand new steamy, interconnected Lucky River Ranch Series.

”You’re a cowgirl now, honey. And cowgirls can’t be tamed. Wouldn’t dare to try.”

I’m almost always gonna eat up a cowboy romance and here was no exception. I’d happily wear the hat for cash 🤭

The story goes as this; City girl inherits a ranch by her late father who she didn’t have a relationship with and is forced to take ownership of it —not knowing whether she’ll keep it or sell it—while the grumpy cowboy that’s in charge of it was promised it. With this between them, they find themselves at odds with their pre conceived notions about each other which is the driving force to their dislike to love dynamic until their time together and helping her navigate the ranch changes that.

Onto the list of my favorite cowboys goes Cash, who is a family man through and through, and I adored how he showed up and loved those closest to him. This man was the greenest and filthiest flag, caring and so damn thoughtful with others and mollie. I just love a man that can communicate and is in touch with his emotions. He knew what he wanted but struggled to go after it until incentive kicked in and I was glad to see him put himself first with the weight of familial responsibilities. The transition from city girl to cow girl was something haha

Took me a a little, but I soon warmed up to Mollie as I began to understand her in seeing how she struggled with regret when it came to her grief. Other than the direction of her life and trying to please everyone. i liked her determination in general but more when it came to acclimating to the ranch life until she didn’t need to because cash showed her she always had it in her

mollie and cash? The dislike to love, banter, tension, communication and more so the emotional depth here was fleshed out phenomenally. I loved seeing them slowly let go of the pre conceived notions they had by opening up and getting as personal and vulnerable as they did. It warmed my heart whenever they had deep conversations as I enjoy that type of intimacy in baring yourself to someone and feeling seen and heard. both of them on opposite ends of a door besides being in a bathtub were two of my favorite scenes. They were so supportive of one another’s dreams and in a way that was ultimately the sweetest by the end 🥹

other facts; there’s a slight breeding kink, no third act, one horse trope, small hint of insta love maybe? The length of time they got together could make it feel that way but *the build up to their feelings and knowing what they wanted was enough for me*

I honestly had the best time with this. It was the same yet much different from other cowboy romances I’ve read. The found family here made me excited for more and I can’t wait for Wyatts book!! the drama at the end sets up his book quite well 👀 undecided on 4-4.5 stars ✨

some quotes

“Mollie luck, if theres one thing you don’t need, it’s someone telling you what you can’t do. You know what you’re capable of.”

“We all deserve a happy ending. I won’t get mine unless mollies in it.”

“Ask me to give you what you want.” i stare at him. “I can’t--“ “But you can.” He steps closer, melting his hips into mine. “Because you gotta know by now, I can’t deny you anything, Mollie. Not a fucking thing.”

"Because truly, there is nothing sexier than a man who shows up for the people he loves. He's showing up for me."

“I’ve never wanted to burn anything down. But i’d burn down this whole town if it meant never seeing that look in her eyes again.”

❥ small town
❥ found family
❥ ennemis to lovers
❥ cowboy X city girl
❥ grumpy X sunshine
❥ no third act breakup

I honestly didn't expect to love 'Cash' the way I did, to say that it took me by surprise is an euphemism. the storyline was raw and unflinching in its portrayal of grief, set against the backdrop of sun-scorched Texan landscapes and an agonizing slow-burning romance that left me breathless.

Mollie, expecting to inherit her father's ranch and wealth after his passing, is instead surprised to learn that she must reside at the ranch for a full year to claim her inheritance. as she navigates the daily struggles and lives of the people who loved her father, she finds herself falling deeply in love with the land and the memories it holds. however, her emotional journey is complicated by two challenges: Cash, the rugged and judgmental ranch hand, with the undeniable & unwavering attraction between the two of them; and all the what ifs linked to her long lost relationship with her late-father, which push her further to stay.

i honestly adored the bittersweet interactions between Mollie and Cash, which were marked by intense tension, witty banter, and palpable sexual attraction. the romance unfolded at a perfectly paced slowburn, with tender moments, heartfelt declarations, and even swoon-worthy jealousy-fueled confrontations, and hilarious family dinners. I also found myself deeply moved by the protagonists' poignant monologues about their shared loss of a father figure, as well as their distinct experiences of grief. throughout the story, the author masterfully balanced the sweet and steamy moments, crafting a captivating cowboy romance that left me breathless. the characters' complexities and vulnerabilities made their emotional journeys all the more compelling. overall, I highly recommend this novel to anyone seeking a beautifully written love story that will tug at your heartstrings.

many thanks to Valentine PR for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Maybe this will be the first cowboy romance I like?! 🤞
Well, it wasn't.

I didn’t like it. I found the characters to be annoying and one dimensional with no real connection. They went from disliking each other to loving each other real fast which didn’t make any sense and then the plot kind of disappeared because ofc they have to have sex in every chapter now. And that’s just boring to me..
Also, the sex scenes made me cringe.

2 stars because I managed to finish it.

4.5 ⭐️ Alright y’all, this book was exactly what I wanted it to be: steamy, small town cowboy romance with just the right amount of grumpy/sassy sunshine goodness. Cash had me hooked from the start with its enemies to lovers tension, forced proximity setup, and a grumpy MMC x feisty FMC dynamic that had me eating it up.

And Cash Rivers. Whew. That man is the definition of rugged, broody perfection. He’s got strong hands, a sharp mind, and enough growly attitude to make you wanna fight him and kiss him at the same time. The banter? A+. The slow burn? Worth it. And the chemistry? Let’s just say everything really is bigger in Texas😏😏

But what I loved most was how the story made me fall for the ranch life right alongside the main character. The small town charm, the dive bar dances, and the way Cash slowly opens up. It all felt so natural and immersive. The only reason I’m taking off .5 is because I found it predictable at one point, but honestly, that didn’t take away from how much fun I had reading it. This book delivered on the cowboy romance front, and I’m already itching to read the next one in the series.

If you love spicy, swoony cowboy romances with a stubborn heroine and a gruff yet sweet cowboy who doesn’t stand a chance against love, Cash is a must read.

Thank you naz for reading this with me! i’m so glad we chose this one🤭 💗

Long live Cash River—this man singlehandedly Carries cowboy romance. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am to the author for making my first experience with a cowboy romance SO memorable. If all books in this genre are like this, then I’m officially hooked.

I’ve been in a terrible reading slump for the past couple of months. November and December were especially brutal. I kept picking up books, but none of them managed to capture my attention. Then I started this book, and it was like a breath of fresh air. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one sitting. Not exaggeration. I spent the entire time with a huge smile on my face. It’s the kind of book that lifts your spirits, fills you with warmth, I’m also so happy that I have the ARC of the second book I’m absolutely planning to binge it tonight fast!

this book revolves around 26-year-old Mollie, who has built a successful life in Dallas, running a boot company with her best friend. Everything is going smoothly until she learns that she’s inherited her father’s ranch. But of course, there’s a catch. a grumpy sexy cowboy named Cash, who is none too thrilled about her taking over the property 🤭

"You're a cowgirl now, honey. And cowgirls can't be tamed."

۫ ➷ Mollie: she was such a fantastic fmc. I found her to be incredibly relatable. Her relationship with her father, though complicated, really hit me in the feels. I think a lot of people will see themselves in her, especially if they’ve ever faced the pressure of balancing personal ambitions with family obligations. I loved the fact that Mollie rides horses and suffers from chronic stomachaches? That detail had me laughinggg because I relate so much. Mollie’s character is multi-dimensional: tough and independent, yet sweet and optimistic. She wears armor to protect herself, but there’s this softness beneath the surface that makes her so endearing.
I also really appreciated how the author flipped the typical gender dynamic in a romance. Mollie is the one with the bigger fortune in this story, and I thought that was such a refreshing change. It was empowering to see her be the one in charge, not just financially but emotionally as well. Her maturity and emotional intelligence were evident in every decision she made. She didn’t shy away from difficult choices, and her fearless approach to life was inspiring. I just adored her so freaking much 🥹

"I don't play. And I'm not nice."

۫ ➷ cash: where do I even begin? This man is the embodiment of everything I’ve ever wanted in a book boyfriend. I need to marry him—like now. I’ve always said that men who know how to get things done are the hottest, and Cash is a walking example of that. He’s practically perfect in every way: strong, caring, vulnerable, emotionally mature, kind. He’s the kind of man who’s strong enough to take care of everyone around him but still has the capacity to be gentle and loving.
What I loved most was the way the author depicted his role as the oldest sibling. Instead of showing him as burdened by the responsibility of taking care of his family as all authors love to do, the author showed us a man who loves his family deeply and takes joy in supporting them. Cash isn’t weighed down by his duties. he embraces them. He’s saving money for his niece’s college fund even tho she’s a kid, he’s always there when his family needs him, and he does all of this with a sense of responsibility that never feels like a chore. It made me fold so hard.😩 his vulnerability was equally important. This is a man who knows what he wants. he wants a partner, someone to share his life with. He’s not looking for someone to complete him; he’s looking for someone to stand by his side. when he finds that in Mollie, it’s nothing short of beautiful. That bathtub scene, ugh my heart when he stood outside the door, calming her and talking her through her distress 🥺 was one of the most tender moments in the book. It’s the kind of love we all dream about: steady, supportive, and deeply caring. I NEED HIM BIBLICALLY!!

"He knew you'd show me I was always a cowgirl at heart. Because at heart, you're a good guy who's just a little rough around the edges."

— the chemistry between them was so so good!!
The way they banter, tease, and challenge each other is absolutely top-tier!! Their relationship evolves in such a natural, heartwarming way. The pacing was perfect. fast enough to keep the story moving but still deep enough to allow for meaningful character growth. Every moment felt earned, and I couldn’t get enough of it. may this type of love find me amen 🙏🏻 the spicy scenes were so sexy, and btw cash eats 😺 for his own pleasure, that should already tell you what kind of man he is and it makes me feral!! anyway this book was an absolute delight. It was the perfect mix of heart, heat, and humor. The characters are well-developed, the story is fun yet emotional, and I’m completely hooked on the series. I can’t wait to see where it goes next.

to any chessnut springs fans out there: READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!! this book was so addictive and gave the cowboy vibes/like elsie silver writing i needed!!

i don’t usually LOVE cowboys in romcoms but tell me why cash had me kicking my feet and giggling!! the hate banter him and mollie served in the beginning was so addictive!! i needed them together by the 1st page i was so obsessed. mollie was also so fun to read about! the way she processed her guilt and grief was very relatable and overall i loved her as a character!

the dynamic between the two main characters was EVERYTHING and more. i love a good enemies to lovers trope where they ACTUALLY have a reason to hate each other and this delivered so well!! the angst was phenomenal and the chemistry was off the charts. it might seem toxic but i love when the mmc automatically assumes things about the fmc and we can see him realizing how amazing she is and how he was wrong!!

while i loved mollie…i’m not gonna say the second hand embarrassment wasn’t strong. sometimes she made me legitimately throw the book across the room but overall i loved reading her.

the only reason why this isn’t rated higher is that after they got together i feel like the story slowed a little(?) they just seemed already in love with each other despite only knowing each other for a month, maybe? it still heavily enjoyed reading them though and ate this up so quickly!!!

THIS GOT ME OUT OF MY SLUMP!!!! I admit, I picked it because it looked predictable and cute, and don’t get me wrong, it certainly was….but it was also just a great cowboy book.

-grief plot that I actually enjoyed and didn’t have to painfully read through

- plot in general was well done.

-sassy fmc that wasn’t insufferable

-mustache 🤰🏻🥵 (no explanation)

- found family

-fmc is a small business owner for cowboy boots 👢

❌One thing that bothered me❌

Pregnancy scare!!!! 🙅🏻‍♂️🙅🏻‍♀️ nope nope nope

But that’s about it for bad thing tho!

What to Expect:
➼ Dislike to Love
➼ City Girl x Cowboy
➼ Forced Proximity
➼ Small Town
➼ Found Family
➼ One Horse
➼ Grief & Loss
➼ No 3rd Act Break Up
➼ Cliffhanger
➼ Dual Narration
➼ Dual First Person POV

A cliffhanger ending in an interconnected standalone romance?! Well I never… I’ve officially seen it all! 😉

This was alright… I think listening to the audio was a bad choice for this one. The country accents were so fake and over the top and I think they made the whole story feel less believable to me. For whatever reason the spice didn’t really hit for me either. The dialogue during the intimate scenes was just kind of cringey. I do wonder if the accents/narration played a role in that for me, but it’s hard to say. What it comes down to is that I just wasn’t fully buying their romance.

I did appreciate that there was no 3rd act break up and that they were both willing to compromise to make it work. If she had just moved to the ranch, it wouldn’t have felt right since she spent her whole life feeling like her dad had chosen the ranch over her. I was also glad they didn’t hold onto their animosities towards each other for very long once they actually started to get to know each other. Honestly, the found family vibes were also good, so there was definitely a lot to love in this one. I just wish it had clicked for me a little more personally.

On a side note, the idea that there are people who own ranches bigger than Rhode Island was absolutely mind boggling to me. Gonna have to do some internet sleuthing to see if that’s actually true… 👀 Texas is wild.

This was a fun and quick read but i got a little bored during the second half of the book. I feel like i wanted some more romance between them to compensate it with their previous hate for each other. It wasn’t bad but i expected a stronger bond between them. It was definitely a fun read despite it’s flaws.

When the grumpiest of cowboys meets his girl and everything else fades awayyyyy 😭😭😭 Cash, what a man, what a man he is!!!! Please oh please let the rest of the brothers be as sexy and manly as him 🔥!!!!!!

I am so happy I buddy-read this book, Ash, if you’re reading this, I’m so sorry my review is so late 😅 i hope you still love me lol

Anywayyy, this book has all the steamy cowboy vibes we all want 🤠 The grumpy cowboy with the “you don’t belong here” energy and the girl being all from the city and not wanting to be there either (like she got a choice 😩) AGHH AND THE WAY THEY START TO LOWER THEIR WALLS AND BE THEMSELVES AND THEN START TO FALL IN LOVE… PLEASE SOMEONE JUST AHHH!!! ← sorry but this is literally how I was feeling the entirety of the book 💗 my little heart.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒘𝒃𝒐𝒚𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒘𝒃𝒐𝒚𝒔.”

Also: the barn scene. Period. Nothing else needs to be said 🔥🚨

Besides that, I also love how Jessica not only gave us amazing characters that you get to understand who they are in their core, but I adored the way there was also humor and all types of emotion woven into the story 🥹 It did all start with how Mollie’s dad died and how Cash was his right hand, so you see where I'm getting at… Family is everything for Cash, and Mollie has a lot of trauma around that topic, so you also get to see the seriousness beyond the love story 🥺

I will 100% continue this series and I know I’m behind on it BUT OMG I am so readdyyyy because you kind of see how the next book starts by the end of this one and WYATT I’M COMING FOR YOUUUU!!!

pi-Zap-8 '𝐂A𝐒H' Is the first full length romance book in the new 'Lucky River Ranch Series' by author Jessica Peterson. Spoken in dual perspectives (Mollie & Cash).

I purchased this after seeing it pop up a time or two on my newsfeeds and couldn't wait to dive in once I'd gotten out from under my Arcs, and I'm so glad I did, this pulled me in straight away! And you've gotta love a good cowboy book and Cash didn't disappoint.

🤠 Small town
🤠 Hot cowboys
🤠 Enemies to lovers
🤠 Forced proximity
🤠 Opposites attract

Not gonna lie, I didn't like Mollie to begin with, she came across like a money grabbing cold selfish b*tch but delve deeper into her character and she had more depth and hurt feelings towards her father with regrets that they both didn't push harder at reconnecting.

Cash was everything, he'd missed out on so much in life, when his parents passed away he stepped up and took on the father figure role to his younger siblings, putting his own life on hold. Even as he grew older family came first.

This was the perfect no frills cowboy romance book that didn’t need all the unnecessary angst, real to life living on a cattle farm, the scenery, the characters made this such a unique book which has me excited for the next brother to fall in love.

I loved the push and pull these two had from the get go, the slow burn, the enemies to lovers, until they realised they were both placed in a situation out of their control and maybe just maybe it was the perfect set up by her father.

Mollie and Cash were so sweet, I can't wait to meet the next couples in the series 🧡

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it was so spicy so often, and I felt like I was getting pretty bored. I think it would have been better if they had reduced the spicy scenes or spaced them out a bit more.

Even so, of course I will continue with the following books.

GIMME CASH NOW.
Am officially in my cowboy Era 🤠

After Mollie’s estranged father dies, she is expecting to get an inheritance of cash that she can turn around and place into her boot business. Instead, she inherits the entire ranch, and a stipulation in her father’s will requires her to live there for a year.

Meanwhile, ranch foreman Cash was under the impression that the ranch would be left to him. Mollie’s dad had been a surrogate father to him after his own parents passed away, and he couldn’t understand how she could have been so cold towards a parent that loved her so much. So not getting the ranch (which he was hoping could help him restore his own family’s neighboring property) was a real stick in his craw.👀

➻“Honey, I’d marry the shit out of you. Not because it’s the right thing to do, but because I’m in love with you.” 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️

There is nothing but distrust and dislike between Cash and Mollie at first. Yet as Mollie learns the ways of ranch life, she falls in love with the land, and eventually even with moody Cash who's hatred quickly turned into love .

➻"That's really what you want?" He searches my eyes. "Anyone who has no clue how fuckin' amazing you are?"
My heart must explode into a million pieces because I feel its ardent beat everywhere: in my lips, my skin, my stomach.
I'm hit again by the urge to cry.
"Don't," I whisper.
"Don't what? Tell you that I was wrong? That you're everything I thought you weren't? Big-hearted and generous and smart as hell and, yeah, fucking beautiful? Sexy as hell?" Cash's eyes graze my face. "Tell me to go, then. Tell me to let you go, and I will. But you gotta say the words, honey,

Perfect cowboy romance!! Exactly what I needed!!

It's got a little bit of everything; witty banter, found family, and a little enemies to lovers! Written so well too. It grabbed my attention right from the start which is impressive considering my lack of focus lately. The introduction to the story felt effortless!

I love how I can relate to both Cash and Mollie. even though they're complete opposites.

Cash with his sense of duty and mountains of responsibility; him being apprehensive about starting his own family because he feels like he already has too many people to take care of & who depend on him.

And Mollie, who feels lonely and lost, anxious about making the wrong choices for her life, and feels like she doesn't belong anywhere or with anyone. The stomachache she gets because she unconsciously always have fear about the uncertainty of her future Is SO real. I'm afraid I can relate to that way too much lmao

Seeing them talk through their personal problems with each other was healing for me in a way. I enjoyed their little moments of vulnerability.

Also, does this remind anyone of The Simple Wild?! Daughter trying to connect with her estranged father in his little town. Finding out father has a family consisting of the people who live in that little town, and she realizes those people know her father better than her... butting heads with the father's grumpy right-hand man? Right-hand man thinking the daughter is just a spoiled city girl? Mom who fled the little town and took the daughter with her because that life was not for her?

It's not a bad thing especially because I just finished reading The Simple Wild and was in need of something similar, but I couldn't help but think to myself didn't I JUST read this? 🤣

Anyways - very charming book and a perfect little yeehaw romcom. This was a near 5 stars for me, but the thing in the middle with her contacting Palmer put me off a bit. She didn't do anything wrong, I think it's just a me thing. I think it would've been better if it'd taken a different direction. But otherwise very good!

This made my small town heart so happy 💕

Cash is a TRUE cowboy and would do absolutely anything for Mollie. The hate to love banter in the beginning was soooo good. I really feel like this book was a beautiful mix of the simple wild + king of country and I really really enjoyed it!

I loved the character growth Mollie goes through because her mom absolutely drove me insane 😂

If you’re in the mood for a small town with a broody cowboy and a female main character that takes no shit, this is for you!

“Show me how good you can swallow it. Every last drop, Mollie. Don’t you fucking stop.” HE SAID WHATTT 🥵

-small town
-cowboy
-on a ranch
-hate to love
- forced proximity
-opposites attract

Cash was such a great, feel-good, and fun cowboy romance. I mean, who doesn’t love a cowboy book? I loved the ranch setting and watching Mollie come into her own as she learned more about not only the ranch, but her dad. Cash was a great hero. He started gruff, but he was charming in his own right by the end.

❤️‍🩹 “I think I always believed that, by being super successful, I could fix something that was broken.”
“What’s broken?”
“Me, I guess? Like if I’m perfect, then I’ll be loved.”

mollie, honey i wish i could give you the biggest hug 🫂 she was so nice so positive so kind to everyone around her. she was like a sun hidden behind a cloud, she was carrying the grief of losing a father she never actually had. it made me so sad that mollie and her father never been able to amend things between them but i’m glad she found peace and her place in the world, thanks to her father🥹

at first, i thought Mollie’s mom was gonna be the villain of the story, only to realize she was just a heartbroken woman who had to choose between her dreams and love🥹 i still don’t like how she kept(kinda) mollie and her dad separate all those years but also i get where she comes from and her dad could’ve try harder for them too. i’m just happy that this family is in a better place now🤍

❤️‍🩹I wish I had a person—the person—to talk to and take care of. Someone who’d take care of me too. Life is heavy. It’d be nice not to have to face it alone for once.

my baby!!! only man i’ll ever love with a mustache😌 he had the grief of not only losing his own parents but also the father figure he had💔it broke my heart seeing how he tried to keep things together for his siblings without having someone to rely on.

he was rude to mollie at first, i get where his anger and resentment were coming from but seeing him fall in love with her was so beautiful🥹 seeing him finally let go, finally let someone to take care of him…

❤️“You’re a cowgirl now, honey. And cowgirls can’t be tamed. Wouldn’t dare to try.”

this is how you write a mature couple. this is how a couple in their late twenties/early thirties should communicate and solve their problems. from their banter in the beginning to sweet way they fell for each other was beautiful to read🤍 but also the spiceee🪭🪭 excuse me who gave them the right to be so hot?? no one does it like cowboys i swear and in this case like cowgirls😌💋

anyways i absolutely adored this😌 they served city girl x country boy, he falls first, forced proximity tropes so well🤭 and no third act ?? please this was written for me💅🏻

i can’t wait to continue this series!! the brothers gonna serve i know it because we have a childhood friends to lovers??? single dad?? yeah sign me up. i can’t wait to see who mollie’s friend will end up with🤭(single dad please🙏🏻)

Save a horse ride a cowboy more like save a horse ride the broody most delicious man name Cash!!! This man and his moustache really was all that, like I just know he not only has BDE but he’s so hot! But to top it off, he’s actually really sweet, caring and goes to bat for the people he loves deeply. This really was just the best time from start to finish and any book where they go from hating each other to lovers, SIGN ME UP!! + he calls her a brat, IM GIGGLING!!
