Nika Michaels lived next to her mom and stepdad in a beautiful, scenic spot nestled in the Blue Mountains with more vacation homes for the rich than permanent residents. Their location overlooked the city of Walla Walla, Washington, and some of the nation's most fertile agricultural land, the Walla Walla Valley.
Nika was not just a casual prepper. She was convinced that the unraveling of society was a matter of when, not if. Her dedication to preparing for civil war, economic collapse, or any other potential calamity was almost obsessive. She had a plan for her entire family.
She did.
But when the surprise EMP attack of October 28th on the entire Lower 48 states of the nation made her fears a reality, she discovered just how difficult making that plan actually happen would be—mostly due to the majority of the local population of 33,000+ residents who had no plan at all…
I am an avid reader of prepper books so I enjoy reading about preppers. This book has a good plot outline but should probably be at least two books to cover the various plots. It reads like an outline that has been put together with occasional dialogs. There are a huge number of characters but it's hard to get connected with them since there is little character development. The characters are likable but bland with no distinguishing characteristics. I dislike that this group of preppers not only had huge resources prepared, but they continue to go out and loot and strip every store close to them like lemmings to the sea. They leave nothing but dust bunnies at each location creating a death sentence for everyone else in the surrounding communities. This would not go over well in most places. There is no tension or conflict in this large group which I find unrealistic -even the children are perfect angels. The building appears effortless, never a lack of materials, bad weather and no busted knuckles, etc. I plan to read the next book and see if this is just a rough start with the story and characters being flushed out more fully in the next installment. I think the author is trying to include too many plot points and forgets that they are telling a story. I still enjoyed the effort.
I love the fact the story was set in Walla Walla and the Tri-Cities but my goodness halfway, not even halfway through the book, I had lost track of names and how people were related. The whole story was which store that day they would empty and who would go. And more people and more names were added every time they left.
I really liked the book. I've lived in Washington state all of my life until years ago when I moved to Idaho b/c WA state went full communist and I had to get out. I am familiar withe the areas where this novel takes place. I really want to read Walla Walla 2 but I don't see it anywhere. So the ending of the first book left me hanging.
Another excellent book in this series. Can't wait for the next one. Would like to say thank you to all these brilliant authors for taking me on these adventures. Impatiently waiting for the next installment.
Read this one twice and ending a cliff hanger. Wish I had a list of people as it is hard to remember all of them. Characters are unusual but well written! Some surprises in the story so write the next one fast! Thanks!
This is my home town and it was exciting to know where everything is when reading . Great story and I'm excited for the next book. Enjoyed it a lot. You will be happy with this one.
Good start, but SO MANY characters. I went back and made a list with key info of characters- at least 90! Not sure I buy their ability to clear so many unbothered businesses, but it's the author's story. Interested to see where she goes.
