(I'll be a little bit serious this time now because my previous review of this is too silly & uses too many gen z slang and emojis. And thank you to all the people who liked this review, this is now the top and the most liked review on this book, the first review that anyone who visits this goodreads page would see, i deeply appreciate it 🫶. This review has spoilers for this book that has non-existent plot and only consists of too many torture and rape scenes)

This is the fourth ever book published by author Mique Watson that questionably features the same topics across the first three books he ever wrote. The first book he ever published, 'Them' is a paranormal book that had a great idea but only overshadowed by the depictions of torture and rape scenes. The second book he ever published, 'Broken Dolls' is a home invasion book that sparks my first ever suspicions for the motivations of the author in his profession of writing. The third book is 'Broken Dolls: Deliverance' which is in no matter any related to the first Broken Dolls book and focuses in the point of view of a child as a rape victim, then somehow becoming a child sex worker...weirdly contradictory.

Then this fourth book is published and now we follow a 47-year-old pedophile (I am going to be direct when it comes to my language because that is what he truly is) named George as he cheats on his wife with a 16-year-old named Chasten.
Perhaps you could say I sometimes have a craving for pretty boys like yourself

We have a detailed flashback of George as a 13-year-old having (suspiciously too much in detailed depiction for a "horror book") sex with a 10-year-old.
...how he had lost his virginity to his younger brother’s best friend when he was thirteen. The boy was only ten, and George teased his little coc...

All throughout half the book we just have 16-year-old Chasten and 47-year-old George flirting and sexting for over 50 pages.
but he couldn’t neglect the power imbalance as far as age and size went. In comparison, he was an apex predator and Chasten was a small animal prime for slaughter

We then proceed to get the most suspiciously romanticized aed seemingly normal sex scene with Chasten and George outside George's car in the woods and the point that I woud like to say in here is the fact that Chasten acts as if its the most normal, totally normal, even sexualized idea of having sexual intercourse with a 47-year-old man which is not only wrong but also makes you think why Mique Watson would write such a sexualized atrocity of a 16-year-old.
“Well, you know I get chatted to by guys like you all the time. I know you wanted it! You were lucky to have me.”

And then we get a flashback to Chasten's history and backstory as he experiences various traumas regarding his father's domestic abuse and other traumatic events. I think this part serves as a distraction and a diversion and doesn't give a reasonable excuse upon why Chasten would have sex with 47-year-old George. Mique watson, you can't excuse pedophilic actions just by saying the child had trauma, therefore "yeah, the sex part with george was totally not for my own pleasure and benifit and has a reason for being in the story".
“Who’s your Daddy?” George whispered.

“You are,” Chasten said, clear jubilation in his eyes.

So now Chasten figures out that George ran away from him because......... George has a wife at home 😑, so now he gets mad that both of them couldn't enjoy being with each other because of marital and ethical wrongdoings, so Chasten partners up with a pedophile who films kids being tortured named Daniel as both of them plan to get revenge on George.

And we follow what is suspiciously the most out of place and uninvited two consecutive child rape scenes of a pedophile couple, Sabine and Fred... These two scenes are NOT in any way related to the ongoing storyline with George and Chasten.

Then as a last chance to make this book sort of 'wholesome' the author decided to write about george and his son going to the beach and surfing in the waves. Pretty lovely and heartwarming right? No, because in the middle of it the author decided to...
George noticed himself avoiding looking at Ron as he peeled off his water-resistant garment; he couldn’t bear to look at a body that so closely resembled Chasten’s too soon. The memories were too fresh.

It's seems that the author wanted to get a major deep dive into the specifics and the depictions and descriptions of child torture and mutilation, child rape, and the sexualization of child sex. BECAUSE AFTER THAT WE GET ANOTHER CHILD RAPE SCENE THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ONGOING STORY ONCE AGAIN! Just now with even more detail, with "FutureCorpse70" an anonymous internet user, telling what to do with the bodies of a child nmaid Alex and her mother Liv as they both git raped and tortured at the same time. (Nothing to do with the book's story)
The man whose username was FutureCorpse70 watched in excitement as the bunny girl and the leather man humiliated the young boy.

And when all the filler scenes finally stopped being fillers, the story came back and left with Chasten and Damien playing a sick game with all the members of George's family.
So, Daddy. Would you rather suck your son’s dick, or forfeit your wife to a fucking death sentence? Make your choice. You better make it quick, though; I am losing patience with you.

Then after all of that, the son (also a child again) managed to be so out of character that FOR ONCE AGAIN, THE CHILD IS THE ONE WHO WANTS IT. (uhh, the sex part, i mean)
“Daddy …” Ron said.

Ron then pinched his nipple and licked his lips. “This is what you like, right, Daddy? You want me to be your good boy?”

“Oh, son …”

It's one very suspicious thing to write about a 16-year-old (Chasten) who wants to have sex with a 47-year-old (George). Its ANOTHER EVEN MORE SUSPICIOUS to write another child wanting to have sex with the same 47-year-old (George), but this time it's his son, Ron.
“Do you like that, Daddy?” Ron whispered.

“Yes, just like that, son …”

If I had a nickel for every time Mique watson wrote a sexualized child in the exact same book, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. TWICE... IN THE SAME BOOK.
He wasn’t like one of those waxed Pornhub fuck-dolls—he was real.

“My boy, my son …” George whispered.

Think about this entire review...think about every quote, think about every scene, think about every paragraph, think about the motivations and the reasons the author would write this...THINK WHY SOMEONE WOULD WRITE AND PUBLISH ALL OF THIS.

Because in the extreme horror/splatterpunk genre we have a variety of authors. We have edgy emo authors: Aron Beauregard, unpredictable immature authors: Matt Shaw, actually GOOD AUTHORS: Jonathan Butcher & Wrath James White, plot-driven authors: Nick Cutter & Kristopher Triana, authors who hate their own books: D.E. McCluskey, flop authors: Judith Sonnet & Edward Lee, experimental authors: Chuck Palahniuk & Urs Allemann, classic authors: Marquis de Sade & Samuel R. Delany, and authors who forgot about grammar and spelling: J.F. Gonzalez.

This is the first ever author that I am genuinely concerned with his being as a person because I want to propose a warrant in PDF document file format (get it?). I feel like Mique Watson is getting a little bit "too comfortable" at writing child rape and child sex that it really makes me wonder who Mique Watson is as a person.

that they were pretty much untouchable in the eyes of the law and could do whatever they wanted to whomever they wanted.


Probably the longest review i have ever written (written in 2+ hours w/quotes), I genuinely despise this book and a little bit (the author)

So Sick!!

Call Me Son by Mique Watson is one of the most vile, disgusting and disturbing stories I have ever read.
I recommend it to Splatterpunk fans.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Mique!

I’ll start with the good—I am extremely difficult to upset, trigger, nauseate, or shock. I have an iron constitution and am a jaded horror aficionado, but I found this book genuinely revolting and had to skim a lot of it which is really unusual for me. It wasn’t the content itself, imo, it was the highly bleak, nihilistic, pornographic way it was presented. Gave me a similar feeling to Cronenburgs Videodrome, which is a compliment. I hated being in the headspace it put me in, and that’s the goal with extreme horror. So huge hat tip to the author for pulling that off, even if it made it extremely difficult to read.

That being said—while the tone was conveyed successfully, the writing itself left so much to be desired. Clunky sentences, weak character development, loads of plot and character inconsistencies. The characters were constantly contradicting themselves in ways that were transparently convenient to the author but made the story feel weak and unreal. It felt like I was presented with rushed, shoddily sketched characters and contrived scenarios just so the author could indulge in writing the most depraved and horrific sexual torture imaginable. Which, I get it. It does what it says in the tin.

Maybe this is a me problem, but I don’t think extreme horror and splatter punk NEEDs to suffer in the department of writing quality and character development. I’m ok with the torture! I’m here for the gore! but I also want to know WHY. Otherwise everything feels faintly boring and cartoonish—ok these people are doing inhuman acts which feels numbing and fitting because they don’t feel remotely human. They’re not characters, they’re NPCS. To me these horrific acts are made more horrifying when you understand the psychology and can even relate to that psychology behind them— but if the charaters dont seem remotely like real people then the horror lies exclusively in gross out tactics which feels cheap.

I badly want there to be extreme horror that’s character driven, psychologically complex, and written in a literary style. But this is not that that book, and it’s not any other contemporary extreme horror book I’ve picked up lately.

But! If you’re just looking for slice em dice up rape em suck their eyeballs out of the sockets and chew them like a grape and spit the oozy jelly on their face style horror with no other explanation that idk people are evil and the world sucks I guess—then maybe you’ll enjoy this book! Especially if you can overlook technical errors and amateurish prose. I will say the author knocked the creative torture methods out of the park, there was some truly wild stuff in here and it takes a lot to surprise me. So overall not bad for what it was but I suffer from wanting extreme horror as a genre to be…better.

If you’re looking for extreme horror look no further. This is bleak, disgusting, and disturbing. Mique does a fantastic job at writing the most creative and visceral gore and depravity. This gave me a sort of For the Sake of 2 vibe by Judith Sonnet and I also noticed a lot of similarities to the movie Knock Knock. I highly recommend both btw.
I do however wish this had more character developement especially with Chasten. I don’t think he was acting quite in character and I wish there was more reasoning behind his actions. I’m just a sucker for character development and the psychology of their actions. If you don’t care and just want the NASTY- you got it, babe!

Full on hard core sexual violence, incest, torture and death, but it seems that actions may carry consequences after all, even in the obscene world of the ultra-sick, snuff movie industry.

Beware what you wish for as strings, ropes, pokers, hammers and guns may also be attached as part of the overall package. This is the story of one man carrying out his own private, secret fetish on the sly- but no harm done, no-one is ever likely to discover his one act of weakness...surely?

A highly impactful, dark and extreme little horror story. Enjoyed it.

Rating: 4.2 stars of pure blackness.

Believe me...I've read plenty of extreme horror and splatterpunk books in my time...but I can honestly say this has to be one of the most disgusting,shocking and vile books that I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
It was sooooo good...yes it was disgusting...yes it was shocking...yes it was vile, but it was well written and the words just flowed with ease.What a story!! Wow!!
I was addicted from the very first page and it just got better and better as I turned each page.
Mique Watson is one "amazing awesome author" and I can't wait to read more from this writer.
It deserves so much more than 5 stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 so I'll add 5 moons🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 too

Spoilers ahead:
I’ve read some of the authors previous books. Some have been ok, but I really enjoyed broken dolls: deliverance. I was excited about a new splatterpunk book.
Going into the story, it was pretty good. I was interested in the characters and their motives. However, about halfway through, things got weird. All of a sudden, the main character, George, went from a kind, sensitive, guilty, family man to some sex crazed lunatic who wanted to use and violently take this woman who was at his house. It was so weird. There was no lead up to the change and the whole beginning of the book, he condemned his coworker who cheated and used women. George was talking shit about his wife and her body when just in the previous chapter, he was riddled with guilt about cheating on her.

Then there’s the extreme horror part- I’m sorry to say, but there was nothing new or exciting about the horror in this book. The idea of red rooms are in countless other splatterpunk books and are super played out in my opinion. There was no motive for any of the torturers or even the boy, Chastain. There was no backstory at all! It just seemed to be extreme with no purpose or agenda- it was just to shock. Honestly I was so bored with the book that I ended up skipping paragraphs or the torture scenes.

Finally, when George gets captured, he goes from being some sex crazed psycho to this poor, guilty husband who loves his beautiful wife again? The character keeps switching up. I felt like there wasn’t any continuity in the characters and no development.

All and all, it was just another splatterpunk book with little to no substance in my opinion.

Outrageous. Shocking. Repulsive. Vile. Disturbing. Smutty. Depraved. Revenge…

There are SO many words to describe this book, it is just pure chaos the moment you open the first page. This hooks you in for a long drive of misery, torture, and a neverending world of craziness, yet, this leaves you feeling like a punching bag at the very end.

CALL ME SON is a brutal story from start to finish. We follow George, your avenged American father, one who has a beautiful family and a beautiful wife to attend to. One day, his drive for lust becomes bored from not receiving it, and soon, he feels a void growing in his life. In search of something more, he joins a dating app and connects with Chasten, or “C.” Their connection quickly intensifies, leading to plans to meet in person for “desirable love.” George's temptation pulls him deeper into a spiral of chaos, leading him down a path where his desires take a dark and dangerous turn…

The entire time I was reading, my mouth was wide open—I was completely captivated, unable to stop turning the pages. It was so gripping that I finished it in a single day because it was THAT GOOD! I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from Mique, and I’m incredibly grateful to have had the chance to read his work early. His growth as an author is evident, and his books keep getting better. CALL ME SON has quickly become one of my favorites among all his works, even though each one is amazing in its own unique way. Mique's storytelling continues to impress, and this book is a standout example of his talent.

Overall, it was a great book, but it did have some flaws, particularly in the area of character development. While the story itself is compelling, I felt that the characters could have been more fully fleshed out. If Mique had spent a bit more time developing the characters, it could have been an absolute masterpiece. That said, it’s still a remarkable work in many ways.

Everything else is pure perfection—truly, chef’s kiss. I would recommend this book to anyone, but with a caution: it’s not for the faint of heart. It contains just about every trigger warning you can imagine, so readers should be prepared. If you can handle the intensity, it’s a must-read!

Oh boy. Okay so this was a delicious slow burn and something I was not expecting. Mique wrote in the beginning of the book how he hopes this story ruins your day. Lol! I didn't ruin mine. Nice try. Better luck next time. Challenge accepted, Mique? ;)

Anyway. We meet George, who I instantly didn't like by the way. He has a good life, a loving wife, a family, two beautiful kids, a successful job but of course, something is missing and he wants more.

George ends up on this app and meets Chasten. We find out that George is into some things that involve someone younger. Did I say how much I did not like him?

One thing leads to another and George and Chasten meet. Things take a turn for the worse and George makes a decision that doesn't just affect him.

We learn that Chasten isn't such a sweet kid after all.

Like I said in the beginning, this book was more of a slow burn horror for me and once the "stuff" started happening, it happened fast. It involved a lot of blood, gore, fluids, gore and so on. It was extreme.

I did predict one part and was wondering why George was so surprised when this certain thing was revealed. He clearly didn't understand who he was dealing with and I was like, "Do you know nothing about the people on the dark web?"

This was another perfect extreme horror by Mique. He compared it to Broken Dolls but I think this one is completely different. Still gruesome with plenty of triggers but definitely a horror masterpiece all on its own!

This author always has great execution with his storylines and excellent prose. Another well done book by Mique.

The first half is very immersive as you get to know the MC as tension, curiosity and suspense builds up. The second half does not give you a chance to breathe, IT DOES NOT LET UP. Page turner for sure. My jaw dropped several times through out. There are some gut punches that leave you feeling sick.

For those who love splatterpunk with heavy SA, this one is for you!

Vile, disgusting, depraved. Not for the faint of heart. Super quick read, perfect for when you are need of a fast paced appalling read.

Smutty books usually are not for me, but beyond the smut lies a good story that amps up into sexual depravity.

This quick read is brutal, bloody and depraved in all the right ways. It’s bleak, unrelenting and builds up to a crashing crescendo that lasts until the very last page. It’s the caliber of tale weaving that extreme horror readers have grown accustomed to seeing from Watson if you’ve been following him since “Them”.

George is a married man with a proclivity he’d rather keep hidden from his daily life. He loves his kids, his wife…but this desire claws at him from the inside. Enter Chasten who nurtures this desire through text, then things snowball from there. Deception leads to scorn, scorn leads to anger, and anger leads to bloodshed as George does whatever necessary to rectify his devolving predicament and preserve those whom he loves.

Solid read, Watson marries a good balance of smut with gore and a hefty helping of depravity and madness. If you’re a fan of his previous works, don’t hop off the Mique train, you’re not gonna want to miss this one!

Wow

What can I say other than wow. A selfish man risks his whole family life for a bit of fun with a young man on a dating app. Without giving anything away revenge gets served bitterly sweet.
Ultimate payback, with nods to A Serbian Film. Gross and utterly depraved and fantastically well written.

This is the second book that I’ve read by this author. I decided to give this book a chance after seeing the positive reviews, (against my better judgement) after I hated “Be My Friend”

Unfortunately, for me this book is more of the same. Although objectively the book is disgusting, featuring torture porn and snuff films as well as other taboo subjects such as paedophilia and incest… that wasn’t what bothered me.

The writing of this book was clunky and immature, it felt almost like a first draft that hadn’t been edited due to quite a few typos.
There was also a lack of consistency in how the main character expressed his relationship with his children.

The plot felt rushed, and to echo a few of the other reviews that we’ve had on here, there was no character development it all just seemed to be rushing towards the gore content.

The way that he reacts/thinks towards Sabine when she arrives at his house comes so out of left field, there is no indication in any of his previous internal monologues that he has this side to him. Having such aggressive sexual inner thoughts towards her is so incredibly different from the family man who doesn’t want to cheat on his wife and has a twisted relationship with his attraction to young boys. It made no sense.

Also, the way that l he was comparing his son‘s body to Chasten’s and the descriptors that he uses towards him made the twist regarding his son at the end so obvious and painful.


At the end I got to the point where I was rolling my eyes every time the words maw or gelatinous were used, which dragged me out of my reading experience.
This is the last thing that I want when I’m reading. I want to be so involved in what��s happening that I lose track of time and be so engrossed in the story that I can’t stop reading.
In this case, I had to force myself to continue reading, and the only saving graces were:
It was incredibly short
It didn’t take me long to finish,
It was available as part of my Kindle unlimited membership.

The book makes you cringe, but not always in a good way.

It certainly had a lot of moments where you're cringing from the depraved torture, but other moments it's due to just the cheesy language/unrealistic dialogue I find a lot of authors think is how fucked up people talk but...really isn't.

It also lacked in any sort of character development, and the backgrounds given to the characters were minimal at best. Certainly not enough to explain their choices, and in some instances had me thinking "This doesn't explain why they'd do that though." Particularly in the case of Chasten who, imo, we needed to see more of in the book. Especially if he was a driving force for the mc's downfall. The little blip of his past wasn't enough to explain his drastic change in character.

I've read a decent amount of this genre, and while I read it in an afternoon it was alright. If you want something like a snuff film, sure it's great and better than most I've watched, but it lacked depth. It was vile for the sake of being vile without any real substance to it other books have no problem providing in less pages. I like gross, but this felt like an excuse to just purge it onto pages rather than tell a good story about gross.

I found it leaves you wanting more--not for the story itself but the meat it's lacking.

George has it all, a beautiful loving wife, great children, a nice home, and a good job. But his temptations tell him otherwise. He decides to download grinder and when he meets a 16 year old boy named Chasten, he's ready to do what he's always wanted. After he got what he wanted, he panicked and left Chasten alone and used. George and his innocent family would soon regret that decision.

Another uncomfy but great read! The online conversations between Chasten and George in the beginning were gross but very accurate. There are men out there like this, who talk like this with young boys and damn it felt real. George was an asshole and deserved more than he got. I loved the snuff part of it and the torture scenes were excellent. This ending, I wasn't expecting but I really enjoyed it! I wouldn't mind more from this world.

Until we met Damien the writing kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters development was perfect and the story was fast pacing but slow enough to get to know the main character and the others.

Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of splatterpunk but when I read a list of depravity, it's like I'm not interested anymore, the shocking aspect of it doesn't hit as hard.

And same problem with every Mique book, even if I really like him as a person and I see great potential in his books. It's always based on a book or a movie, nothing wrong with that, but there's too much of it. If I can exactly pinpoint the scene of the movie it's based on, maybe it's too much.

*Spoiler* It felt like the mother didn't remember what happened to her. It's like she was at home when everything was going on. If she had remembered her reaction wouldn't have been the same.

Call Me Son is the latest nasty piece from the dark and demented mind of Mique Watson.

The first half of this book reminded me a lot of Dennis Coopers work the Sluts. It’s graphic and a well written depiction of online dating culture.

The second half… well. It got intense! There was no shortage of visceral violence. Mique has a unique way of writing the most horrendous, vile actions into something borderline poetic and beautiful.

There was a scene that reminded me of that scene in a Serbian Film, only this was worse. I say that as high praise.

If you’re into splatterpunk and want something dirty and nasty then this is definitely one I’d recommend.

Not my favourite by this author. But still a solid, compelling read.
Some reoccurring themes that are possibly overdone in this genre.
Sad in places.
Would love to see the future development of Ron, after such trauma.

2.5 stars rounded up to three. For what it's worth, this was a quick and entertaining read - it's just a shame the interesting & unusual premise kinda fizzled into a run-off-the-mill EH story. And yet, this book managed to stand out from all of the EH I've read lately.
