The book club is taking over Anna’s dating life. After failing to find compatible men on dating apps or in person, the Book Babes are stepping in to find her true love. The book she picks each meeting determines her date and their activity. This method can’t be worse than her previous efforts, right?
Brody has pined after the sweet librarian from his corner cubicle for over a year. While he’s a whiz with words on paper, real-life interactions with attractive women trigger his anxiety. Can he figure out a way to reveal his feelings without tripping over his own tongue before Anna meets the man of her dreams via the Blind Date and a Book challenge?
Fans of You've Got Mail will enjoy this hidden identity, slow burn contemporary romance involving letter writing, lots of terrible dates, and a swoony happily ever after.
While Write for You is the fifth book in the City Love series, it can easily stand alone. I have not read any other books in the series and do not feel I missed anything.
Write for You is written in a dual POV, alternating between Anna and Brody. Anna is desperate to fall in love and get married. Brody struggles with anxiety and has been secretly pining for Anna for a year. This story is a very slow-burn romance.
Read for:
✉ Pen Pals
✉ Book club
✉ Blind dates and a book
✉ he falls first
✉ secret identity
✉ bad dates Write for You is a cute story with a unique plotline, but I did not connect with it as much as I wanted to. I got annoyed with Anna for being instantly attracted to each guy she went out with, and wanting something to be there on the first date. It came across as desperation. I loved the idea of the book club, but I hadn't read any of the books they had read, making it hard to connect with that part of the story. I did love the friendship among the members of the club though.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Megan never fails to give her readers a story that pulls on your heartstrings, makes us swoon, and leaves us just happy by the time we finish reading. Book 5 in the City Love series does just that. Doesn’t mean she isn’t afraid to hit us with some real life before we get to our HEA, but she never fails. Within this book she weaves romance and anxiety together, creating the perfect balance to what romance is all about.
I could feel the anxiety within Brody as I read. As someone who also deals with anxiety, I know all too well the feelings he was going through at times. I found myself taking deep breaths for him as I read and had to remind myself “it’s just a book”. He has a past that defines him and at its core the reason for the anxiety. As he works through it, we are filled with hope and know he will be ok.
Anna is our loveable librarian who bring a sense of grounded to Brody. These two have been communicating through letters they send through the mail. Brody discovered who Anna was to him, but Anna still doesn’t know that Brody is her pen pal. She helped Brody get out of his, even though she didn’t know it at the time, and their friendship blossomed into something more.
As Megan never fails to give us a sweet romance, there is always a deeper meaning behind her stories. This book reminded you that your shortcomings don’t define you, unless you let them. She also reminds us that even through struggles and roadblocks do we stop being the things we are meant to be. As Brody struggled with his writer’s block, he never once thought he wasn’t a writer. It was part of his journey, not the end result.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: 📚Author x Librarian 🌲Pen Pals 📚Blind Dates 🌲Anxiety Representation 📚You’ve Got Mail Vibes 🌲Clean Romance
Oh my. This book pulled at my heartstrings. I was expecting a lighthearted romcom and instead got smacked in the face with a deeper look at anxiety and writing and what it means to be a romantic.
To start, the anxiety. Brody, Brody, Brody, there were a ton of times I had to take a breath for him because I felt his panic as it was portrayed. His past shapes who he is but the way he fights and regroups and hopes fills me with hope for him. He manages and it’s so real in the fact that it isn’t solved or well magically cured. It takes time and constant work, and it isn’t ever perfect. I like that even with a support system he is the one that calls the final shots.
For the writing… writing is hard. Writer’s block is something I’m unfortunately familiar with. This story almost felt like an ode to the blurred reality of a writer who is writing yet can’t write yet still has to write. Not once did he not think he was a writer, obstacles and all, and I loved that. Just because the words can’t come, doesn’t mean to stop all together.
And to tie it all together, the romance. The romantical expectations are put to the test for both Anna and Brody. Weaving in their past experiences and current deceptions, it’s a wild ride of trying to figure out where to draw the line between being practical and being wishful.
The sense of time was a little off to me. Wasn’t quite sure of what was happening in a linear sense. It went from prolonged to feeling rushed.
Can’t say more without spoilers but I really appreciated this story’s romanticness for falling in love and writing/reading books.
Spunky librarian Anna is ready to find a guy she connects with but can't seem to get away from dating disasters even when she gets her book club besties to set her up. Author Brody has been writing letters to Anna under his pen name after she helped him find a specific book one time, and now he spends his days in a corner of the library writing his books. He wants to ask her out but struggles with anxiety due to a painful past.
This is a book you can really get immersed in. From the library to the waterfalls, each setting was described in a way that made me feel like I was there. I enjoyed Anna's spunkiness and just the way she interacted with the people around her. She was so fun. I absolutely loved Brody. He was so sweet that you just couldn't get mad at him for hiding his true identity. I really liked reading about his struggle with anxiety. I could tell the author knew what she was talking about as she portrayed exactly what Brody was feeling. Every time Anna got set up with a different guy, I was amazed at the creative and plausible ways the author came up with to make the guy not work out for Anna. Sometimes bad date excuses leave me scratching my head, but these were all very well done. If you like You've Got Mail, hiking, or books you're sure to enjoy this story!
Thanks so much to the author for giving me an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Write for You is the fifth book in the City Love series. While characters from the previous books do make appearances in this one, I do think it could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone.
Oh my goodness, this book! While I have enjoyed all the other books I've read in this series, this is most certainly my new favorite. That is, in large part, to Brody! As someone who has severe social anxiety myself, I found myself relating to him very much in that way (I even met my husband online and got to know him through emails before we met in person, which was so much easier for me with my anxiety!) The author did such a great job of portraying his experiences, and it definitely made me feel seen in that. Beyond that though, he's just the sweetest... I won't give anything away, but the lengths he goes to to share his feelings with Anna!? My goodness! I loved the letter aspects of their story... and the Blind Date with a Book challenge definitely added some fun to the story! There was so much to love about this story--- definitely one you'll want to experience for yourself!
Write for You is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
Megan Byrd truly is a master storyteller. When book club takes over your life , what gives? The Book-babes step in ….Anna picks a book and goes with the flow..it’s truly a magnificent piece of work , it’s so immersive , it’s fun and it’s tongue in cheek great! She has a pen pal , very mysterious. Brody the author loves from afar and it’s Anna who is star . He also has a pen pal but he knows who she is. The object of his desire and from the corner worship. No he’s not a drip , just a sensitive soul. Dating Anna is his goal.. But how can he find a way to her heart? Yes he’s a whizz at the written word but real life he’s quite absurd , a tripping hazard of epic proportions he even needs to sidestep the caution signs for fear of falling . They might’ve made those signs because of him , he seems so dim when he’s nervous and clumsy with it. Brody , calm down , just sit. Think up a plan and go with it. Got it? Well that would probably all be true but the thing that he’s failing at the most is his bread and butter and it leaves him in the gutter instead of bowling strikes when each and every man she dates he has to dream up ways of him not being Mr. Right. Love it ! Will they won’t they slow burn heaven. Very well written by Ms Byrd a simply divine story.
Anna is a librarian, she starts receiving letters from an author, they carry on a relationship by letter, and occasional presents. She then meets Brody at the library, deciding that he's a professor! She's a member of a book club, she tells them all about the men she's been dating on an app. They come up with an idea, a book and a blind date! Meanwhile Brody is trying really hard to overcome his anxiety and to ask Anna out. Anna and the author are still writing and getting closer. they are learning more about each other, and he's using some of her experiences in his writing.
Megan has a way of writing that draws you into the story and drawn to the characters, and this book is no different. I hate when books are compared to films but this certainly has a You've got Mail feel to it. The two main characters are charming and relatable. Brody shows his vulnerability with anxiety and its refreshing to read instead of it always being the female character. Anna is disillusioned with romance and is happy to allow control to her reading group. Brody is worried he's left things to late. Will her blind date set ups work. Will Brody's secret spoil his chances. Curl up and enjoy the closed door sweet rom com book. I'm sure you won't want to miss this
Well-written story with interesting characters and situations. Anna wants to find love, but a string of bad dates set up online which have made her discouraged. She goes to her book club for help and they decide to have some fun linking books with dates. Sounds promising, but some of the members are really bad at finding someone who is compatible with Anna. During all this, Anna has been corresponding with an author.
Brody is an author who knows Anna at the library but he is too shy to ask her out due to his anxiety issues. Brody knows he is corresponding with Anna, but doesn't feel secure enough to tell her so. Sweet funny story. I enjoyed reading the story very much.
If you love You've Got Mail you will love this book. I couldn't put it down. Anna is a librarian looking for love. Brody is a shy author that writes under an alias, MB Winston. Winston and Anna correspond the old school way, snail mail. While Winston knows Anna, Anna does not know that Winston, her pen pal, is Brody, the shy "professor" who has been occupying a cubicle in the library for the last year. This dual POV clean romance will make you love these characters even more. The Princess Bride reference at the end was like icing on the cake! (Who doesn't love Princess Bride?!)

I really enjoyed this sweet romance story. A contemporary story with the old fashioned practice of pen pals and snail mail letter writing. I enjoy receiving personal snail mail and still send cards and letters to others. I also liked the author's choice to highlight the problem of anxiety and how it affects people's daily actions and decisions. Anna and Brody were likeable and well-written main characters. The story flowed well and was a fast read. I recommend this entertaining book.
Thanking the author for a free advance readers copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Ah! This was such a sweet and heartwarming romance! I loved their relationship and all the twists and turns it took. The book club ladies were hilarious and their date ideas sounded like so much fun! Megan always has the greatest settings in her books. The grand gesture at the end was fantastic and the ending was so romantic. If you are looking for a secret admirer romance with all the feels, twists and turns then this is the one for you!
While I love each of the City Love books, this one is my favorite! Of course I said that about the last one as well, so I'm thinking maybe I just enjoy whatever CL series book I'm reading at the moment! The hidden identity aspect of the book made this a fun story, and I loved the dating disasters Anna had to deal along the way.
This was such a cute story. I really enjoyed reading about Brody and how he handled his anxiety. A medication I was on awhile ago gave me anxiety, and I feel like the author did a good job showing that.
It took me several chapters to get into the groove of this book. It starts off a little slow but once it gets going, you end up turning those pages as fast as possible. Adorable romance so many great twists and turns. Love the characters. Highly recommend this romance.
One of my favorite movies is You've Got Mail so , of course, I loved the premise of this story with emails and hidden identity! It was so good I couldn't put it down! Well done!
This book wouldn’t let me put it down! I found myself thinking about the characters and eager to continue reading whenever I needed to get back to real life or sleep. I read this as Hurricane Helene hit the Asheville area and it was comforting and bittersweet to read about Anna and Brody making their way around some of my favorite landmarks. Many of these places are under repair or closed indefinitely now, but the sweetness and heart of this book lingers amidst the cruel reality. Loved the Blind date and a book challenge and their letters. 🥰
What a great novel! This is the latest in Megan Byrd's "City Love" series that takes place in Asheville, NC (which has of course been in the news thanks to Hurricane Helene, but these books show off the best things about the community).
Anna wants to find love, but she has had a string of bad dates set up online. She goes to her book club to ask for help, and they decide to have some fun with linking books with dates.
In the meantime, Brody is an author who knows Anna at the library, but he suffers from anxiety and is too shy to ask her out.
Things happen and friendships blossom, and that's about all I can say without giving any spoilers. But I enjoyed this story so very much! Highly recommend.
Special thanks to Megan for a review copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
I love the You've Got Mail vibes of this book. The characters are loveably flawed and complex. Brody is a writer that has real anxiety when it comes to talking to groups of people or a certain librarian to whom he is attracted. Anna is a librarian with horrible dating luck. When her book club comes up with a blind date/book idea for setting her up she thinks there might be a chance. But she also has a pen pal that she is starting to have feelings for but she doesn't know who it is. Oh the crazy world of dating. This is a fun, crazy and sometimes frustrating road to love.
Mini Review: Write For You by Megan Byrd is book five in the City Love series but it can be read as a standalone. This book was utterly adorable. If you are looking for You’ve Got Mail vibes, a fun set of book club girls, a blind date with a book challenge, and some hidden identity then this book is for you. I can’t even begin to express in words how sweet this book was. I loved the MMC reading his point of view. He was such a sweet and kind character with a good heart. The hidden identity was fun. I kept guessing when all would be revealed and the reveal did not dissapoint. Anna's character was a bit of a thinker, maybe it was the librarian in her but I loved that she took the time to think things over not just over react when things happen. This book is for you if are looking for
*Pen Pals *Book Club *Blind Date and Book Challenges *secret identities *he falls first *An author/librarian *some really bad dates *slow burn romance
This is a sweet & closed-door romance written from a dual point of view.
📖 I received a gifted e-book ARC. The following is my honest review✍🏻
Write For You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Write For You is a dual POV slow burn romance. Anna is struggling with dating, and decides to turn things over to her book club- they’ll set her up on blind dates and choose books that correspond with each date to read. Brody has been pining for Anna for over a year and when he overhears her plan he realizes that he might be running out of time to make his feelings known!
This was another sweet PG romance from the City Love series. I found Brody, with his anxiety, to be very relatable! I loved the letter writing throughout the book and how the two of them developed friendship and feelings, both through letters and slowly in person.
