Making The Best of It

Rate this book
After a stressful and anxiety inducing first year of high school, 15-year-old Taylianah Lukai and her family move from Honolulu, Hawaii to Baton Rouge, Louisiana during the summer of 2011. Taylianah believes that this can be her new start--an escape from all of the drama, rumors, heartbreaks and of course, her ex-boyfriend. She promises herself that this year will be better for her emotionally and mentally. Taylianah learns to stand up for herself, fight for what she loves and open up to those closest to her. She wants to be happy and enjoy life like everyone else. Even though life is unpredictable, she’s determined to make the best of it. This story is told mostly from Taylianah’s perspective but is also, at times, told from the perspectives of Chazz and her friends Kanani and Andre.

For The Young

Well that was definitely interesting, but this is what you get from a young adult novel. While I can appreciate drama and more drama because that is what you get when you deal with young people, what I can't get with is when there are holes in the story.First I read that Tay's mom was a doctor her reaction to a illnesses is just unbelievable. Also there are just to many secondary characters that really don't have anything to do with the story. This story all reads like one long phone conversation. While this is an valiant effort,it needs more work. Also a raise the roof on the teen saying no to early sex, knowing what they want.A really cute story just needs a little bit more work.
