Hawthorne Hollow is going to the birds. Literally. These birds have an agenda, though, and it’s not good. Scout Randall wants to take advantage of the fact that her current nemesis is trapped on another plane. Regrouping and resting—and strategizing—is the name of the game. A new enemy has other ideas, however. A run-in with a flock of strixes gives Scout more than she bargained for. Then more appear…and some of the townsfolk start acting weird. The newest pack members follow suit. Everybody is acting strangely, but are they about to take flight? Scout didn’t like birds before. Now she downright hates them. It doesn’t help that the birds are trying to kill her…and everybody she loves. Scout isn’t the type to back down. That means it’s time to go to war, and she’s willing to kill anybody who gets in her flocking way. Feathers are about to be ruffled, and it’s a fight to the finish. Who will soar and who will crash and burn? Look out, because trouble is about to take flight.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
This was not one of her best, but her best are VERY good. The character development continues, what I think of as the "soap opera". it bugged me that they never mentioned Raisin's grandmother, who must have been going nuts. I am still hoping to see some character growth with Marissa, she's the comic relief, but everyone deserves some development. I don't like (50's) Superman level characters. (I'd like to see a drop in from another continent that left them reminded that they aren't the center of the universe, even though Poet and Zoe remind us that magick is vast and varied. I'd object more if if was non-stop apocalypse. I sti!l have no idea how she keeps coming up refresh plotr, even if she sticks with her winning formula of mouthy magickal girls with gorgeous lovers. After all, it works.
Scout and.her friends face a murderous Shrike. What's one of those?
A shrike is a paranormal creature, human in appearance but with the mannerisms and habits of a bird. They are evil creatures that have been around since the dawn of time, they mostly stay hidden working behind the scenes, manipulating others (human and paranormal) to achieve their goals. Now one is in Hemlock Cove, Scout has never come across one before and he no idea how to deal with the threat posed. The Shrike is targeting Raisin (the teenager adopted by the group) someone Scout will kill to protect, but why she's in town nd what the Shrike wants are mysteries...........................so, no clue what she wants or how to defeat her this one's going to be tricky........................
What can I say? I absolute adore the Wicked Witches of the Midwest series. I have a lot of fun with the Hellcat and Company. But the Spell's Angels series? I don't know what it is about this lot, but I just never enjoy it as much as the other series - even when the Winchesters appear. This is yet another supernatural side quest as Scout and Gunner push forward in preparation for the return of the (formerly?) bat-crap crazy Lamia. I liked the story, had fun seeing how the showdown turned out, but I much prefer my Spell's Angels to guest star rather than feature.
I love all of Amanda M. Lee's books. The story, characters, and crossover storylines are truly magical. This addition to this series was really good, and I read it in one sitting(even though I said I wouldn't lol). I know this is gearing down to the big finish, but I hope it won't be too soon. I love Scout and Gunner and the rest of the gang and can see so many more stories left to tell before the final war.
The stories involving scout are getting better and better. It’s really good that scout is interacting more with others in the area. It makes the stories much more interesting and complex. It’s great to see the effort. The author is making to connect the different storylines and characters that she’s created. What an impressive growth and skill And breath of talent.
This one was different, I never would have had birds. They are great creatures, I know people have fears about them. Who could forget the famous Hitchcock film "The Birds" its one of my favorites. Its always great to have the Winchester witches join the fight. Will we get a double wedding with Scout, Gunner, Grahm, and Marnie. That would be the icing on the cake!! On to the next adventure!💙💚😉
While it took me a little longer to get into this book, I soon was immersed and couldn’t wait for the story to unfold. I like how Scout, Gunner, Graham and Evan are now extended family to the Winchesters. They are heavily involved in the story but it still focuses on Scout and Gunner. Looking forward to the big proposal. This book is definitely better if read in series order.
So the plot was very good as the progression through the story. Once again Scout has the martyr complex. We get to hear her rehash the whole family, blah, blah, blah. This story was on the edge of excellent. Scout needs to be the bad ass she is meant to be and stop the redundant whining.
Since the old principal left a new one came but Raisin thought she was evil from first meeting. With two meetings Scout didn't trust her, and removed her from school. Next the school was overtaken and under a protective dome. How to remove this and get the school and people back becomes a priority. Good Read.
When Scout is sent out to take care of problems strixes, she has no idea that more bird issues are about to take off. When Raisin is in trouble at school, Scout makes a split decision and takes her out. As the mysteries continue Gunner is infected by a bird. Scout must race time for an answer.
Loveable and creatively written characters., who are often hilarious. Cute and snarky dialogues. Adventures and misadventures, sometimes fierce &/or funny. All togrther fascinating.
I used to love Amanda lee books. Now it's as though they're being written by a different person. The heroines are way too powerful, and I don't like the addition of the loas. Just not the great books they used to be.
Wow! Birds taking over people and making them bird-like is utterly terrifying. The same does for 4 to 6 feet tall owls. Also, something happen to Gunnar that changes the status of their relationship. What could it be?
I can't explain how much I love reading Scout's stories! She has a snarky twist to her that I love and adding in the Winchesters just makes it better! Icing on the cake!
I always like it when the stories from different series intermingled together. I particularly enjoy this story line. I can't wait to see how it turns out with Gunner and Scout. And as always I enjoy the Winchesters!!
I love Ms. Lee's stories! Out of all the different books I read she is my favorite author. She has a fun sense of humor that she writes interesting mysteries around. You won't be sorry to buy any of her books.
I like having the others involved in the story and I especially like how Poet, Raven, Bay and of course Zoe have grown and become less snarky, Scout is just too much, reminds of Hadley. Story was ok, looking forward to the showdown with Bonnie.
Love this series. The characters are unique and interesting. I enjoy the storylines. The interactions of characters from other series is also appreciated. I love the way they are intermingled and kept active.
Giant evil birds... Alfred Hitchcock, look out! (I love the short story by Daphne du Maurier better, but that's neither here nor there). Unexpected strengths and events, confusion, and mayhem. Par for the course!
It's another wonderful story in this series. Everything you want, great characters and chemistry. Mystery, danger, and friends/family who have your back. Can't wait to read the next book. No cliffhanger and hea.
This book introduces a number of new (to me) mythological creatures. I really enjoyed the conflict between the main characters and all of the supporting conflict. Thanks Mrs Lee
We get a break from the over arching plot to take care of a baddie from Hawthorne Holloway past. I enjoy these books and how the characters cross over. Kick butt FMC's are my favorite.
I enjoyed this story even though it did remind me of the Alfred Hitchcock movie. It was an interesting story with the crossover to the Wicked Witches of the Midwest. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this new episode of one of my favourite series just as much as I expected. I loved the characters in this series and meeting the Winchester Witches here and there is just more of a bonus here. I have the next book already downloaded and it will be up next.
With the lead up to the great battle with Bonnie on the horizon, Scout still has daily duties on her plate and the occasional bad guy, or bird or something. Great story!
Great Read, another stand off between a foe and the spells angels but they can't do it by themselves this time and a major member gets taken over. What to do, will things turn out ok? You will just have to read the book to find out.
