i had to drag myself through the mud for this one. the plot is actually very interesting and i feel like it could make for a GREAT series if it wasn’t so painstakingly slow. EVERYTHING was explained. i.e “i looked at my dog. i think he needs to go outside. i get up. i pet him. i grab his leash. we go downstairs. i put my shoes on.” etc etc. obviously that isn’t pen and paper what was said but that’s the gist. i would like to know how the story ends but all the extra words just isn’t worth it

Very interesting book

It's not often you read a book about a career you've never heard of. A personal confidant to the stars. But with a catch. No one can ever know you are associated with them. New clients only come from word of mouth. This book covers many things, grief, internet bullying, adoption, birth parents and many other things. I am looking forward to book two.

She’s Done It Again

Oh my goodness! I love reading Maggie Miller. Her books are straight through reads. This book evokes so many emotions. It has characters that you love and hate, interesting twists and life-like situations that somehow often, but not always, end with fairy tale endings. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Different

This is a different kind of novel than what I usually read. I love mysteries and thrillers, but I was in the mood for something with a lower body count. This is the first book I’ve read from this author. I’d say it’s more of a slice of life than a story, really. A majority of the book details the characters sleeping (or not), making coffee, taking showers, cooking meals, walking the dog, etc. Almost like a journal. That being said, the characters are interesting and well developed. Even the minor ones. The only plot line I didn’t understand was the one concerning the MC’s job but maybe you need to understand Hollywood better to “get” it. The book ends abruptly on a sorta cliffhanger, so if that triggers you, be warned. But I’m pretty sure I’ll read the next one so it didn’t really bother me.

I enjoyed this book in general. Good characters, vivid settings. I did not like that the book did not have an ending and you have to read the next book to figure out what happens. I don’t mind reading a series where one or two things are left on a resolved, but literally not a single storyline was wrapped up by the end of book one. My other complaint is that there are too many times in dialogue and the character thoughts where there is too much detail. I feel like a good editor could’ve cut out a lot of extraneous logistical details, like moving a coffee mug from one edge of the table to the other, or standing up, or sitting down, or clipping a dog leash on, or taking a dog leash off. That just wasn’t necessary.

Where to begin yes, this girl makes a living at listening to people talking and keeping their secrets. Wow if only I knew because half the time I don’t pay attention. You could talk to me and I guarantee that I won’t repeat it because I probably didn’t retain it! Well, then, of course she gets left the monstrous Beach House with the single neighbor. This happened to me four times already in this life. It’s an age old story. I think I was doing OK until the sister came to visit and I was listening to the audiobook, and for some reason, the girl reading the story, doesn’t know how to pronounce the word pasta. And then they keep saying it. Yeah if you’re looking for brainless background noise, you found it. I think that’s the intent and I just chosen violence today.

I loved this book. There is no heavily controversial characters, which is always something I enjoy. It has a clear story flow, and while I listened to it on audio book as I was driving, I would go and buy the physical book just so I can read it again and highlight certain sentences that made me shout as I was driving. I will say though, the ending of this book bugged me. Not because it was bad, but because it was abrupt. I went and immediately bought the next book in the series after the ending of the first book because I needed to find out what happens next.

This was a fun beach read which I listened to on Audible. Harper is a mysterious woman who is escaping a past relationship with a celebrity and she learns she has inherited a beach cottage so picks up and moves. Her sister Frankie decides to come join her and they begin to establish a routine at the beach. They had been given up for adoption as kids and only reunited when they got older. Harper resumes her role as a celebrity confidant and coach for her next door neighbor, Mitch, a celebrity author and grumpy old man whose wife recently passed away.

Interesting concept. A personal confidant is something missing in every life. Someone to hold your secrets without any worry about them becoming known. What a great idea. Too bad it's so missing in most people's lives. The only thing I didn't like about this book is you have to get book 2 to continue the story. It would have been better to know that going in. Otherwise, good, multi layered story.

This isn't for me. I'm not a fan of books with so much detail of the unimportant things. As in, she sat in her Herman Miller chair...instead of her office chair. When it's done so often that I notice it and it pulls me out of the story, I usually dnf.

Hideaway Bay #1

This was a great book about 2 sisters who reconnected after being adopted separately as children. Harper works for wealthy people and Frankie is an assistant principal. Both have drama in their lives so they end up getting together at Harper's house she inherited from a client. I really enjoyed how this book played out.

I liked how it went through the mind of all the characters, who are all so likable, and how it showed so much progress in their thoughts throughout the book. There was a lot of different plot lines that were interesting and unlike anything I’ve read before. I’m interested in reading the rest of the series!!

Loved the 1st book, Maggie Miller did a great job of connecting Frankie and Harper's lives. Love all the characters she is adding to put a lot of excitement and turmoil into Hideaway Bay. Can't wait to read the 2nd book.

This book was great with all of the drama of Harper inheritance of Armstrong's house and meet Mitchell. Her sister visiting and finding out about their birth mother. Harper's reputation being smeared. I look forward to seeing how everything works out.
