All Chris Donahue wanted was a place in his child's life.
All Pinky Black wanted was his love.
Chris Donahue was still obsessed with the married woman he had an affair with and the child they had created together. Though he wanted to, he found that he couldn't move on with his life without his son.
Pinky Black knew that Chris' emotions were engaged elsewhere but she wanted him to forget his obsession with Kelly and love her. That shouldn't be so hard? Should it?

"If It Ain't Broke" by Brenda Barrett was another one of this author's beautiful reads that I thoroughly enjoyed. This author was able to offer the reader four wonderful written stories that we all 'off the chart' EXCELLENT.' Wow! this series was of Chris and his new life...wife, daughter and even his ex-lover child Mark, which was his.
My suggestion if you haven't read this series...please do because it is a wonderful Christian read and a series that does have a good ending!
I liked the ending...prayer for the week:
"God, give me grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, Courage to change the things which should be changed and the Wisdom to distinguish the one from the other. Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, Trusting that You will make all things right, If I surrender to Your will, So that I may be reasonably happen in this life, And supremely happy with your forever in the next. Amen."
Beautiful said and all that is left is pick up this read as well as the series... you will be truly blessed from the read. Well done Ms. Barrett for a wonderful series that was enjoyed from Book One through Book Four of the Three Rivers Series.
I could not put this book down. I read book 1 and skip right to book 4. I will go back and read the others later. But Chris and Pinky's story was great. A story of finding true love and redemption. All the things that was happening in Chris life finally brought him to his knees again. Loved it. He learned to give it to God. He knew but somewhere in there he forgot. All Pinky wanted was Chris love and she had it all the time but she needed the words and not the action.
This author has excellent ideas and a propensity to craft an engaging story. It is almost as two people are writing. Some of the words and synonyms are distracting, from an amazing and beautiful story.
This book is dramatic, romantic and emotional. Pinky was Chris secret lover so she find her way to work where he is to get his attention. He fired her so many but always call her back. Chris had a fling with Kelly the pastor's wife she got pregnant move from Jamaica to Grand Cayman without telling Chris she was pregnant. Chris found out and started to check into legal advice about his child. Chris married Pinky so he could prove he had a stable home for his son. 3. months into the marriage Pinky got pregnant had a rough pregnancy had a baby girl. Call off legal custody call in love with Pinky and his daughter. It's a beautiful Christian love story. Love it.
I enjoyed this book but didn't like the characters.
I love Brenda Barrett 's writing style, but this book wasn't one of my favorites because I didn't care for the main characters. I especially disliked Pinky because she was too childish.Chris wasn't too much better, going after his son so vigorously, and then dropping the pursuit once he found out Pinky was pregnant. I didn't feel the need to root for either character. I didn't care if they ever got together or not. What I liked was the story itself and if the characters were more relatable, I would have enjoyed the book more.
Chris wrestles with the sins of his past. He is finally convinced that he should try to get shared custody of his son Mark who was born after he had an affair with Kelly who was and is married to Theo. He is told to have any chance at joint custody he needs to be married. He decided to marry Pinky his ex-housekeeper who had confessed her undying love for him. So they marry but unfortunately, things didn't work out as planned. Chris made the statement that God has a unique way of teaching His wayward children a lesson.
A great series! I really enjoyed this novel & how the author showed in the midst of seemingly irreparable situations God can give you a happy ending. My only complaint is a lot of grammatical errors but definitely a message comes forth in this series. Chris just had to realize time brings about a change and his time with Kelly had come & gone and during a very critical time in his marriage to Pinky he finally comes to realize it's time to decide what is most important in life!
It took me actually five days but I finished the entire Three Rivers World collection. Author Brenda Barrett truly outdid herself, giving readers an opportunity to smile, laugh, scream, and cry (yes I did all of the above). Her ingenious decision to end with Chris with whom it started was absolutely brilliant. If you desire a series that is sure to stir fresh emotions, try these four books, which ends with this great read If It Ain't Broke.
This book makes you think and you actually see the characters in your minds eye. I loved it. Love the fact Chris got his happy ending and a better relationship with God. It felt so real and it gave me a different outlook on my actions of late and I realize there're things, that I need to change. Lord give me strength, please.
Good book. I read this in a day . I knew Chris actually love and cared for Pinky. But he was so stuck on Kelly and his son. I'm glad kelly and then decided to let Mark met his father and other relatives. Kelly was definitely stubborn for keeping their son away from him.
This book had me making side eyes quite frequently. It was probably my least favorite in the series. I did not like how everyone was against Chris seeing his son & for the life of me, somebody needed to put Pinky on some medicine! Read this one at your own risk, ai could have skipped over it. 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Excellent read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Chris and Petrine (Pinkey) had a tumultuous relationship. Chris had sort out his past feelings, so he could move into his future. There was plenty of ups and downs for all involved, but God and love will prevail.
It appears you got to go through to get through. Life can deal you some rough time but getting to end is so sweet when you put everything in the Lord's hand.
An absolute phenomenal series this has been in Three Rivers!! So happy to see what the love of God can do in a person's life. Forgiveness... Whewwwwwwww!! Can heal even the hardest soul. Another story of redemption. Really sad Brenda has chosen to end it.
I loved this book and the entire series!!! Great way to be reminded of how God and will turn our situations around if we just trust Him! Great characters... Great storyline with real life situations!! I loved it!!!
I literally could not put this book down, hence me going to bed at 1 a.m. Lessons learned: deal with your issues before marrying another, don't marry for any deceptive reason and finally, communication is very important. Great read.
The characters in the storyline were representative of what is currently happening in today’s lives of people; causing them to reconnect with the one who connects it all!!
Don't know how I started the first book but I was drawn in from the beginning. Just finished the last book and thoroughly enjoyed the series. Will be reading more from this author.
A very good ending to the Three Rivers series. Chris & Pinky both had to show out. The book flowed well, as did the entire series. Can't wait to see what else Barrett has to offer.
