Darius Hinks is an author, writing primarily in the science fiction and fantasy genres. He was born in Birmingham, England, in 1972. He works and lives in Nottinghamshire. Hinks' first novel, Warrior Priest, won the David Gemmel Morningstar award.

Fantastic Warhammer book that is all about the lengths we'll go to in order to avoid death.

It does what the best Inquisitor books do which is show that the Imperium's horrific system is the reason Chaos is so pervasive. The Inquistion wouldn't have to exist in a system that actually cares for its people, the abuse of the mining population is the gateway to chaos and the final solution is not delivered by the Inquisition or the belief in the God Emperor, it's the belief in being a good person. To be a human in the imperium is to be stuck between Tyrants and madmen.

The characters and action in this were really solid, with some really fun demonic shenanigans.

What an incredible story.

It's my first exposure to Hinks' writing and I was utterly captivated from the first page. Some descriptions were so visceral they made my stomach literally turn. Absolutely breathtaking as I was holding my breath for so many moments. For a book that is relatively short - it managed to pack so much within its pages that it was hard to catch a break and I didn't want for one. I can only wish for more to come in the future, I had an absolute blast reading it.

Religion and the blindness it imposes on cultures is always an emotive subject and the depths that those subsumed is really the subject matter for this, interesting and intriguing, great narration enhances the experience

I don't know. The story is kind of okey, the characters are interesting enough to keep your attention. But this is definitely not on the same as Eisenhorn or Ravenor. Maybe if the author fleshed out the character in more books, but as of now it is a nothing burger unfortunately.

Barf. This book is to sell an overpriced piece of plastic. Forgettable characters, plot and story. Waste of money. Doesn't do anything but establish a shoddy at best story of a character that I am hoping has no further play in the Universe. Don't waste your money.

I would say if you liked the eisenhorn books, this is pretty close to the same thing but with some additional psychic aspects. As well as coteaz basically not able to die and has power armor.

Another amazing entry from Darius Hinks. I couldn't put the book down, and finished it in one sitting. Characters were showing a lot of depth as well as real human emotion and drive. Had the biggest smile on my face after reading it that lasted for a few days. When thinking back on it, I find that Coteaz is written with an astounding amount of layers that really does this legendary character justice. Pacing is great and the world is vivid and vast. Every character in my opinion is well crafted and their interactions are a chef's kiss.
Combat is one of the best in black library's books.
