Avery Shaw thinks things are bumping right along—her ongoing war with the ducks invading her pool notwithstanding—but she’s quickly disavowed of that notion when her arch nemesis Tad Ludington’s task force invades her backyard and arrests her cousin Mario on suspicion of serial murder. Mario has been in trouble before—not of his making—but this time the deck seems to be stacked against him…right up until Avery realizes that Tad is bringing charges with zero proof. He can’t even prove that women are dead. When Avery digs in, determined to make him look like an idiot, she discovers an unfortunate problem. There isa serial killer on the loose…and no bodies have yet been discovered. So Tad is on to something, and there’s nothing Avery wants more than to take his prize from him. That means partnering with Sheriff Jake Farrell, who demands to be in control just as often as Avery. Together, they’re going to butt heads…and figure out that there really is a monster on the loose in Macomb County. Avery is working hard, but there are others working against her. Between Tad, a local attorney out for blood, her own co-workers, and the history of the women themselves, she’s got her hands full. Giving up isn’t an option in Avery’s world. There’s one thing Avery Shaw doesn’t do. Lose. How is she going to win this time?
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Finally, finally an Avery Shaw book with an ending. It hasn't happened in awhile. This is probably going to be my favorite book out of the whole series. I enjoy them, I get a laugh out of Avery most of all, but the endings are never endings (unlike this one) they just end when she finds out who the person is, and I find that incredibly annoying. BUT not this time. Thank you for a satisfying ending.
Avery and Elliot have been dealing with a free our of ducks taking over their pool for hire a while now, nothing they have tried has suffered in relocating the ducks. The ducks even our their eggs by the pool nd 're reading their chicks in it. Avery has decided it's war and the first chapter where Elliot lists L20 the household equipment he has locked.up.or disabled so Avery cannot make.use.of it is hilarious, long may the ducks saga continue (they even have names now). Aside from that things start with a bang when Tad Ludington bursts in with his newly formed crime task.force and arrests Avery's cousin Mario...........climbing he is a serial killer. Avery .......furious ........has no choice but to investigate and when she finds Tad may, for once, be right must work quickly to identify the murderer and clear Mario.......................
Avery and Eliot continue their newlywed nesting - in a hilarious fashion, with the battle of the duck family nesting in a pool, terrorized by Avery’s naked grandpa showing up to swim in same pool ignoring duck fam, and oh, Avery’s evil nemesis is baccccck. That is not a spoiler, it is the norm for Avery.
But the events that follow are shocking. Avery as a reporter for the local paper has an unhappy habit of scooping all the media for miles around, (which infuriates everyone). She does it again, realizing a list of missing women is connected. When murder is uncovered and a shocking chain of events is discovered, and the murderer is unmasked, will Avery be caught in the crossfire?
Great writing from one of my fav writers and one of my series. Terrific book 25, hilarious snarky and sarcastic anti heroine, great sidekick hubby and an absolutely worthwhile read
Another in one of my favorite series. The prologues to the story are always good and the ducks are back. I still think they should put up some kind of screening all around the pool with one door that they use to get inside and keep out the ducks.
So, the story starts off with the arrest of Mario for several murders! This, obviously, upsets Avery rather a bit. You can guess who is behind it. Tad, of course.
Fortunately, Mario has a good lawyer and a no-nonsense judge.
There's also a rather neat use of plastic penises.
The serious portion of the book deals with a thug that kills women so it's up to Avery and her co-horts to find the killer and bring him to justice.
With another task force set up in an old sex shop, Tad's once again allowed his ego to override any kind of logical reason. Turning up at Avery's and arresting Mario as a serial killer, Tad seems to think he's finally got a winning hand. But when you try and railroad a judge into locking someone up and present zero evidence, it's just not going to happen.
When that person has a cousin who has no fear, a mouth that runs, a competitive streak a mile or two wide, and really enjoys taking control, you really should think twice before you start anything... Tad didn't... Tad has it coming!!
I don't leave reviews often because I never know what to say. This is my favorite series. Don't get me wrong.... I love all of her series whether she writes under Amanda or Lily but Avery Shaw is my favorite. This book did not disappoint! I laughed out loud almost the moment I started reading it. Avery is so darn funny and snarky you can't help but laugh. I'm going to try to do better about writing reviews. You won't regret downloading this book. You will definitely enjoy it!
Avery is back and in full form. I love Mario, he cracks me up. Her Grandpa is a trip. He came in huge for the family this go around. I am enjoying Avery and her ever evolving levels of maturity. Her relationship with Elliot is great. She puts that man through a lot. The mystery in this book is very satisfying. Everyone is back including Andre. Loved it. Great addition to the series.
Where do I begin? As always, I love the mystery and humor in this series. Avery Shaw is such a great character, and the author, Amanda Lee does such an incredible job with the characters. I hope this isn't the last in the series, but if it is, there are other great series by the same author. Amanda is amazing and my favorite author ever!!
Loved this one, we have invading ducks, one falsely accused cousin, a very colorful grandfather, and a serial killer. What could possibly go wrong? It all comes together and Tad still blames Avery for it all. We didn't see that coming did we? On to the next adventure!💚💙😉
Really enjoyed this book. It’s has lots of twists and turns. Love how everyone works together to solve this one. Of course Avery, Eliot and Jake but also Grandpa had a serious role as well as Lexie. I also enjoyed that Avery did a bit more thinking before leaping. Highly recommend.
Avery is always entertaining. One of these days, she is going to get those ducks out of her pool. Anytime Avery can make Tad Ludington look stupid, it is a good read.
Amanda Lee is so busy with all the series she writes; it is incredible. I always am in a happy place when I read her books. Lisa M.
Just WOW! Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. Absolutely the best Avery Shaw book yet. Moments had me laughing out loud & other times I was on the edge of my seat. Definitely worth 10 “ducks” (stars!)
Avery is one of my favorite Amanda M. Lee characters and series. These books never disappoint! The story keeps you reading and the cast of characters are fantastic.
Avery Shaw is an absolute hoot! In her unending attempts to humiliate Tad, this story really proved she’s on top of her game. Murals & mini penises are just a small (no pun intended) part of the laughs in this story, as her revenge continues!!
This is literally my favorite series. Every time a new Avery Shaw book comes out, I know it's gonna be a good time. Please don't ever stop this series, I love it when Avery unleashes her fury.
I love Ms. Lee's stories! Out of all the different books I read she is my favorite author. She has a fun sense of humor that she writes interesting mysteries around. You won't be sorry to buy any of her books.
4.5 Stars This was easily one of my favorite books in the series. Avery was great in this book, full of the snark we know and love, but she really is growing as a character with Eliot at her back. Loved it!
You never know what is going to happen when Avery is involved but you know it will be an adventure. Everyone else is just along for the ride and trying to keep her legal.
Awesome read, Avery is chasing a serial killer but she's chasing more than one bad guy, but she still manages to make Tad furious. Can she once again get her story before it gets away.
I think this is my favorite book so far! I love all of Amanda's/Lilly's books, but this one took me 6 days to read because I couldn't stop laughing! Thank you Amanda for all your hard work!! I can't wait for the next Avery Shaw book.
I think Bossy Nos & Circulation Woes is my favorite Avery Shaw Mystery so far. Amanda M. Lee writes a great Mystery. I enjoy her characters and her plot twists. She kept me guessing. Great job. I am looking forward to the next Avery Shaw Mystery.
These books are a real treat to read. Laugh out loud moments. Too long between new releases, but well worth the wait. Thank you for this series. I look forward to every new story.
I absolutely want to be Avery Shaw when I grow up. Another entertaining and exciting story. I can’t wait to see what adventure she gets into next. Loved it
