Jacob Henderson is a man of his word and a man who protects his family. While he's slow to anger, once he's at that point, it's hard to bring him back from it. Rage takes over him through situations he thought he caused. However, there is a reason deeper than most of the Hendersons know. Besides his mother and his cousin, Karima, only one person can touch his heart and calm his rage like no other. His physical therapist, Mekayla Chatmon, has the power to make him forget about everything troubling him. Whether he can get her to admit she knows she possesses that power is another thing.
Mekayla Chatmon doesn't know what it's like to have loving parents. Being raised primarily by her sister, Keonshay, she bucked the system every chance she got. Her desire for her parents to at least pretend they cared was overwhelmingly strong, even after entering adulthood. However, forming relationships with Keonshay's in-laws proves to be what she needs to pull herself up by the bootstraps and make a life for herself. After moving away and becoming a physical therapist, she finds that when she meets Jacob, her feelings on love aren't typical. She's afraid of it. After over twenty years, she still has issues stemming from her parents' abandonment.
Jacob and Mekayla both have deep-seated issues that are hard for them to overcome. Jacob realizes that Mekayla is the woman to help him through his trauma, but Mekayla feels she isn't strong enough to deal with his demons when she's still trying to overcome her own. Will the two of them be able to heal themselves before embarking on a relationship, or will their demons fester and start a war with one another that neither of them are prepared for?
Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.
Whew, Miss Monica! You really took us through it with this one. Emotions all over, anxiety, sadness, anger, then joy.
I vaguely remember Mekayla, but Lawd the things she had to endure. 💔 Although she has come out on the other side, she still gets triggered, as all of her trauma has not been resolved. She protects her daughter fiercely, as she often has flashbacks, and knows and understands what can happen to young girls. She loves her job as a physical therapist, but her newest client will be her biggest challenge yet.
Jacob has also been dealing with his own trauma. Between Jemeka’s crazy ass and her family, reminders of his father and what went on his family home, and his temper, he is close to the edge. Now recovering from injuries suffered from bull ish, he meets Mekayla his therapist, but he sees her as more. He comes on strong, and almost pushes her away, but steps back and allows things to play out naturally.
The attraction between Mekayla and Jacob is evident, but they can also see the matching pain in each other’s eyes and can feel the hurt the other carries. This could potentially be disastrous with two damaged people, but when you have faith, all things are possible. Jacob took his time and allowed Mekayla to come to terms with their new relationship. I loved that Mekayla appreciated everything that Jacob did for her, even the smallest things as she had not experienced that type of affection before.
Now the damn drama that was coming from every witcha way was crazy! That Anderson family ain’t got one light bulb lit in the whole damn family, as they kept doin’ dumb ish! The secrets that were revealed were next level. Why do our elders hold on to all this ish that can come back to haunt us later? 👀 Come through Shy and Mrs. Taylor. Always ready to get them cases thrown out. I hope Watchful Eyes is taking care of Jemeka’s momma in jail, cause I still don’t trust her!
The female cousins are growing up and ready to cause their own type of Henderson ruckus. That issue with Milana shook me to the core, cause not lil’ Tiff? She looks to be a firecracker in the making. Another great read ma’am. 👍🏾👍🏾
The Hendersons are so popular that they can't escape the drama. The amount of hate this family faces doesn't stop how much their love and unity for each other goes. I love how protective the Henderson men are towards family, doesn't matter if by blood or through marriage. Jacob and Mekayla were perfect together. She didn't want to cross that professional line with Jacob, but he knew she would one day be his wife. Throughout all the drama this family was facing, it didn't stop Jacob and Mekayla from continuing their journey to happiness. Love conquered all for these two.
What a ride. Talk about drama. Not a dull moment with Uncle Mayor with his sarcastic mouth always up in everyone’s business. I was impressed with the author how she fluidly wrote about past trauma and you didn’t get stuck in the trauma. I enjoyed how Jacob loved on Mekayla and showed her how to accept being loved on.
As we all know when you dig deep down in that family tree and shake it hard enough the secrets and lies will always come out. But at the end of the day, nothing beats a loving supportive family whether through blood or one that you just happened to build that bond with. As always I truly enjoy the Henderson.
I love everything about the Hendersons 🥰 This story was right on point and in line with the rest of the clan. As always, a great job was done at addressing issues on the real world.
Although we entered Mekayla’s life post trauma, you could still see the remnants of it, especially when she reconnected with her father and eventually in his demise. Not to mention the trauma she experienced due to her moms negligence and her moms own trauma - she was carrying a lot of hurt and pain and had a lot of triggers that could pop up at the drop of a dime. Jacob had his own issues with his father’s horrible treatment of his mother and his siblings that he had yet to deal with. Also, he was feeling the repercussions of handing out D to just anybody, he caught a case, dealing with an injury, and he had a short fuse when lit. He really needed to get himself together because Mekayla was not going to give him any play until he showed some change. Both of them needed therapy to help wade through and heal from all they have experienced and its impact on their lives and relationships but neither of them sought it out except by discussing things with family, especially Karima. She is the Henderson Whisperer so I guess she counts. There was so much drama going on with them and around them at any given time. I wanted to say - don’t answer the door or the phone and don’t leave the house! There was always something. They stuck besides each other through it all - especially Jacob because he was her life raft carrying her through the tumultuous waters to safety.
Monica, you ha e done it again. If you haven't read about the Hendersons, you should! I enjoyed watching Jacob's growth. He stood 10 toes down for his family! I find that families, especially our ancestors, have a lot of secrets. Some stay buried forever. However, others tend to rear their ugly heads! Mekayla had a troubling upbringing, so much abuse and despair, but that didn't stop her from attaining her goals! I enjoyed how she went through the process to forgiveness for both if her parents and her over protectiveness of her daughter were vital and needed. Hurt people hurt others, and we would like to think that we wo t become our parents. Unfortunately, her mother became her mother! LaTee was so sweet and smart for her age, I li e how Jacob knew in order to live and be with Mekayla, he had no choice but to love LaTee and he made it clear from the onset, kids are the resilient a d k ow when someone is putting on!
The Hendersons are a special family, and they don't play about the people they care about.
Though there were ame serious topics, if you know Storm, they know he's going to be a clown regardless of the situation.
Loved the epilogue and can't wait to read about Karima. She's a special young lady, and there's a certain discernment about her...
Oo wee, this author did not disappoint with the continuation of the Henderson family saga. She is a master of weaving difficult situations in an intimate and delicate manner. This story had a lot going on and to deal with from family rape, to stalking, to murder, to depression, to murder in self-defense, to abandonment, to death of paren, to trust, and eventually a serious romantic relationship. You gonna have read the book to find out the specifics. There were secrets, family secrets that almost tore a few up!
Me Kayla and Jacob had a lot to overcome. He was not so patient to being patient in his relentless pursuit of Mekayla. She tried to deny her feelings, but eventually, feelings and love won out. He spoke what he wanted into existence. Jacob accepted Mekayla and her daughter as his family, periodt. Baby girl immediately identified him as "Daddy." That's connection was strong and real. In return, Mekayla accepted Jacob and all his baggage. They were each other's ride and die. He was definitely the protector.
I liked that this book answered the questions that had been outstanding from the previous stories because the cliffhanger from the last book had me upset. I liked that the family was able to get answers about why there was so much beef between the Henderson and Anderson families and what a tangled web of mess that was. I also liked that we were able to see those issues resolved to the tue point of hopefully not being an issue again.
I loved that Jacob and Mekayla were able to get their happily ever after and that they didn’t allow their previous traumas to keep them apart. I also loved the way Jacob showed love to Mekayla and her daughter. I also loved how the Hendersons always show up and show out for the family and their loved ones at all times.
Now I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next with the Henderson girls and seeing how the uncle and boy cousins and brothers will act when they find their forever love.
Once again, thank you Ms. Walters for the Sidney Taylor & Shyrón Berotte’s cameo appearances in “Make Me Remember (The Henderson Family Saga - Book 23)” these Henderson’s alone are are straight country hood-a-fied gangsters 🤭…in “big city Nome”‼️…But why do people (Anderson’s) insist on provoking those fight’n (& killers 🤷🏾♀️) folks!…They take “I’m gonna knock you out” to a whole other level 🤭🤦🏾♀️🫣‼️Meanwhile, I can’t remember all of these darn Henderson’s four generations deep plus spouses, children, friends, pets & extended relatives too😮💨📝🤦🏾♀️‼️Thereafter, “Make Me Forget…” was a fantastic read! I adore Jacob and husband attentiveness towards Melayka. He was/is the perfect compliment to Melayka (the woman) & LaTee. …Both needed the security of the other to live not just merely exist 🥰🥹…their iron sharpens iron 😻🔥‼️A perfect combination…a family🥰‼️
Make me forget and IMMEDIATELY TOO. This family has gotten a lil too out of control for me, while I enjoy the interconnected tales it becomes too much when we spend so many chapters talking about others. While I know this was the conclusion book I really didn’t need any other stories to be told or wrapped up until maybe the epilogue. It felt like we barely got time with the two main characters cus we was so busy up under Henderson farms drama. Overall it was a decent story and I’m happy that miss girl got the family and love she was craving. I also appreciate that she was giving Storm a lil run for his money cus wheew sometimes big dawg was coming out his NECK. I’m happy Jacob got his happy ending but because so many disturbing details came out it was hard to feel relieved. I also think it was weird that Cassie and ole boy was kinda related but it did make sense cus it’s like YALL THE MAIN FAMILY WHO LIVES HERE in a town with a population of 45 lmao 40 of y’all hendersons so why y’all ain’t think it was some cross contamination? It’s gross either way but YEE HAW
Monica every since I read my first book by you, you have been one of my favorite authors. I believe in promoting our culture and your black love stories do just that I really love the hendersons because nobody ever thinks about the country love but you did and I enjoy it very much I'm glad to know that you're going to consider writing books about the ladies because I was not ready for these seriously. Thank you so much for what you been to our Urban culture and to the love that you express and show through these books. Thank you for exposing the trauma that we deal with and exposing it in a way that it's not offensive. It may trigger some but it's done tastefully and I appreciate the fact that you show the realness of who we are as a people. May you continue to be blessed.
Jacob and Mekayla the chemistry started at the hospital but she was not having it cause her mind was on her and her child, but Jacob was not giving up not going to happen he she had some trauma but when he talked about his and it triggered hers she can of stepped back..... nope he is not giving up now the crazy people the just won't leave them alone two people have died because of their stupidity and the Henderson's don't play and always going to stick together I love that and baby girl start calling his mom Diamond I thought that was so cute when said are you going to be my dad yea I cried...... I love all the Henderson books but this one Chile what can I say Awesome 😍😍😍
Jacob went through it with the drama from Jameka but got himself together; he was very patient when it came to Mekayla and LaTee. Kane was very mature about the situation that happened to him and Jacob. The growth from Mekayla was inspiring especially when it came to Mercedes, Stacy, and Zhori; she got the closure and happy ending she deserved. LaTee was like a mini Mekayla with her slick comments. The information Shyrón and Ali uncovered showed that family secrets can do serious damage and need to be exposed because that was a lot to unpack especially for KJ and Cassie. The drama was off the chain between Tiffany, Jess, court cases, and Shayla’s people; Storm is always going to come with jokes. Hopefully Karima’s or Milana’s story will be next.
I enjoyed Jason and Mekayla’s deeply emotional story. Both characters have quite a bit of trauma from their childhood to deal with which they’ve carried over to adulthood and how they deal with difficult moments, Jason with his anger issues and Mekayla with her hypervigilance and quickness to lash out. I think this made sense based on what they had both been through and I enjoyed this story as a whole- my only issue is that there wasn’t enough space or action for them to heal. Their healing was very co-dependent and I think there needed to be a little more intention given to what was next for them on that healing journey beyond intimacy plastering over the huge cracks. Still a good addition to the series and really love seeing the softening of Storm.
Mekayla went thru some deep deep trauma as a child and teenager, and this book was an emotional roller coaster!
Jacob also went through some trying times and still harbor that hurt feelings from what his dad caused, and also from his lack of judgment with the Anderson’s!
The Hendersons always come thru clutch, and this family is so loving even though they all went through somethings.
It’s was always great seeing my pseudo son Shy, and he and Ms. Taylor don’t be fooling around!
Uncle Mayor got names for all his nieces lol (if it ain’t Martha it’s Pam) ROTFL! Storm making sure he stays relevant lmao 🤣🤣🤣.
This book was the true definition of if it ain't one thing, it's another! Jacob as well as the other Henderson's just could not shake Shayla and her family. They were like thorns in somebody's side. Thank God for Shyron' Berotte and Sidney Taylor. The Henderson family kept those two busy. Jacob may have been going through turmoil, but he also found the love of his life while going through it. He and Mekayla may have had similar pasts, but their futures became solid. They worked together to love and trust. Jacob gave her and LaTee a loving family that she would never lose. The Henderson's finally regained their happiness and peace. Awesome read!
Wow! What a way to continue a series! The Henderson family saga is an all-time great series for me. The way each book is written it flows so effortlessly. It is such a joy to catch up on the other family members, especially Uncle Mayor Storm Henderson! He is such a crazy dude but play no games about family. Luckily for Mekayla, once she was looked at as family, she was truly locked in as such for life. I loved how Author Monica Walters weaved all of the family and friends in and helps remind those of each person's role in previous books as well. It's amazing and sure can draw the reader in. Very well done, keep them coming! 🎉👏🏾
Mekayla had a very hard childhood which makes it very hard for her to trust people especially men. Jacob knows she is the one for him after their first encounter. He was her patient while he was in the hospital but he was determined to have more with her. Her past made it very heart for him to break down the walls she had built up. One thing is for sure these Henderson men go after what they want and will stop at nothing to get it. He proves that he can not only be trusted with her but her daughter as well. I love how they were helping to heal each other in different areas of their lives.
Mannn you took us on a journey! I loved the connection between Mekayla & Jacob! They were hot but let the flame build at the same time. I glad they both sought out a form of therapy for their trauma while helping one another heal. I was worried about Jacob’s physical healing as well. I hope she loosen the reigns on LaTee but I TOTALLY understand why she’s worried. I’m looking forward to diving into Karina’s story & I’m so shocked about Milana but I’m ready to hear her as well! Great work Monica as always!
Jacob and Mekayla’s story was plagued with trauma. From his issues with his father to that crazy Anderson family to her childhood trauma and feelings of abandonment these two had a lot of over come. I liked how Jacob made his intentions known and was willing to wait for Mekayla to make her decision. Once she did, it was full gas for them. I loved how he immediately accepted LaTee as his own and welcomed Mekayla’s family into the fold. I was sad about what happened to Stacy, but glad it helped bring Mekayla closer to her mom and brothers.
Whew child!! Okay I followed directions and read Any and Everything for Love first. So glad I did. The back story was fresh and it helped when understanding Mekayla. I felt for her in that hospital. I had a similar situation with my🤬 stepmother. Baby,,,,Mr. Jacob for the win. My buddy Shy Berotte and Mrs. Taylor do not play. Their law firm need to be called FAAFO-FR.🤣
As always the Hendersons are everything. If you keep reading you might find your family is just like theirs.
This was a really good read! It had all the things--emotion, passion, grit AND the drama was on 10. The secrets that came tumbling out the closet was enough to last all eternity. Jacob and Mekayla's families had too much trauma but were able to heal through the love and support that came with time and maturity. One thing will always be true about a Henderson man--they gon hire movers and tell they lady to break that lease and come to me!🥰 The pop in from previous characters added another layer of greatness--who can get enough of Shy, Jasper and Uncle Mayor❤️
Jacob met Mekayla during his stay in the hospital and then at his home for physical therapy. He fell instantly for her but she had so much past trauma and had a hard time releasing that guard she had up! He wore her down and even when she acted up at the hospital when her dad passed, he got her right real quick! The Henderson clan ain't no joke. Shayla, Cassie and the rest of them Anderson's need to go on. Already 4 of them are dead, 2 in this story alone! Great family saga, we need Jess to have a story next Monica Walters!!!
I waited until I read the entire series. This series gave me all the feels. I found myself reading crying and laughing. I cried through Kenny and Kendrick WJ and Joan not knowing if I could make through to the end. Then I know there would Uncle Mayor and the twins that have my sides hurting from laughing so hard. I loved the way this family loved one another and their backs. I can’t wait for more of the Henderson insta love. Please give me more of the Henderson’s story.
And another one!!! Monica Walters never misses. I was toooo ready for this story after seeing how Jacob was coming behind Mekayla in Make Me Forget. This book had so much going on while also tying up a few lose ends. I love the Hendersons and their welcoming presence. Experiencing how accepting they are always makes me yearn for something I didn’t receive so I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I especially loved Storm because yes he’s still catagory 5 out here🤣 Jacob and Mekayla were so cute together. They were both battling demons but they were both what the other needed to get through. The things that unfolded in this book had me anxious especially Jacob getting that phone call. Monica has a way with throwing curveballs (which is one reason I love her so much) so I wasn’t sure what would happen. It says that Karima is up next for the Hendersons and I’m ready for it. I want to see how the family therapist finds love. She is almost too perfect so I expect her to go through it🥴 I’m not sure what is next for Monica Walters but like everything else I’ll be locked in and ready!
I love this series down! I’ll never stop reading the books that Monica drops. I love that Jacob was able to find his one and gain a daughter in the process. Mekayla deserved to be loved and Jacob was the perfect person for her. He understood that she had some trauma just like he did but he didn’t give up on her. Also, I love how Karima is able to be there for everyone. I can’t wait to read her story. ❤️
I was all in because it's the Hendersons. It pulls you in from the very first page. Jacob did what he had to do. Makayla has been through so much. Watching Jacob and Makayla come together, I was literally holding my breath as I read this book. I can't think of anyone who hasn't read The Hendersons. It's so worth the read. I adore this family. As always, it was an absolute pleasure reading your books. 🥰
This was so wonderful I took my time reading it honestly because some things were triggering for me. I really wanted to be present while I was reading it and enjoy it and that's what happened. Monica Walters did it again with the hendersons and again I say I really wish a producer would take it upon themselves and offer her a big screen deal because this would be awesome! Thank you for blessing us with another fantastic read can't wait for the next one!
It was so rewarding to see Mekayla all grown up. Considering all that she went through as a child, mommy Mekayla was the best. Little LaTee was the life of the party. Jacob being her daddy was so beautiful to read. Considering all he was going through it was refreshing to watch him put aside his demons to love his women. This family secrets got real heavy but I'm glad they all worked through them. Can't wait for who's coming next.
Make Me Remember (The Henderson Family Saga Book 23)
Monica Walters you did it again writing another Great Novel. I loved the storyline and the characters. I love and closeness that this family shared for each other was written beautifully. You could feel the love leap from the pages. You gave us a beautiful black love story with a lot of passion and romance. I smiled as I read each page because you gave us drama and love and action.
