The whole of Scripture, Old Testament and New, is being published in a single volume, featuring the beautiful Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition (RSV2CE) translation along with introductions, outlines, and explanatory notes for each biblical book, extensive cross references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and an array of visual and educational aids to bring the message of Scripture into clear focus for Catholic readers. More than any other study edition of the Bible on the market, the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible is “like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old” (Mt 13:52). It draws insights from the best of modern scholarship as well as the best of the Catholic tradition of interpretation through the ages. It explains the historical, cultural, literary, and archaeological background of Scripture, while at the same time looking to the Fathers, Doctors, and Councils of the Church for insight into its theological and spiritual teachings. The result is a veritable library of Bible study resources, all under one cover, designed to help readers understand the written Word of God and apply its lessons to their lives today. It is simply the most ambitious undertaking of its kind in our generation.
Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author

The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Old and New Testament is hands down one of the best resources I’ve come across for diving deeper into Scripture. What makes it stand out right away is how approachable it is. Sometimes study Bibles can feel overwhelming, but this one strikes a nice balance between being scholarly and still super readable.
Edited by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch, it’s packed with notes, commentary, and background info that really help the Bible come alive. The footnotes explain tough passages, connect Old Testament prophecies to their New Testament fulfillment, and give you cultural or historical context you might otherwise miss. It’s like having a Bible scholar sitting next to you, quietly filling in the gaps.
One thing I really appreciate is the focus on Catholic teaching throughout. The commentary doesn’t just skim the surface—it highlights how Scripture ties into Church tradition, the sacraments, and even the Catechism. It helps you not only understand what the text says, but also how the Church has understood it for centuries. That makes it a great tool for personal study, Bible study groups, or even just preparing for Mass.
The design is another big plus. The layout is clean, the print is easy to read, and the notes are organized in a way that doesn’t distract from the actual Scripture. The introductions to each book are short but insightful, giving you a clear sense of the author, historical context, and main themes.
Overall, the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible is both practical and inspiring. It encourages you to not just read the Bible but to really engage with it, ask questions, and deepen your faith. If you’re looking for a study Bible that’s faithful, clear, and genuinely enriching, this one’s a fantastic choice.
The scholarly notes and observations that come with this Bible are absolutely brilliant. I have spent the past year on a theology course and it was absoltely invaluable to have this for the scripture study aspects of the course. I treasure this Bible for the context it provides and the absolute detailed care and incredible knowledge that has gone into its production.
Excellent resource even for Protestants who want to understand traditional Roman Catholic theology. Be aware that the volume is immense...at my age I might have to move it around with a hand truck...
