It was supposed to be a fun and harmless night out on the town. However, now Lina Harrington is officially a missing person. After being kept in an old warehouse for weeks, she has finally been sold to the highest bidder—Xavier Almasi. Lina soon discovers the highest bidder isn’t who she thinks he is. He’s got one mission and one mission only—to kill every person responsible for her abduction. But why?
As time passes, they become quite close as they skate through dangerous territory, risking it all so Lina can return home. Out of nowhere, their plans are halted as familiar faces emerge, putting a damper on everything that they have worked so hard to accomplish. Lina made a promise to herself that fateful day she was taken, that no matter what—if the time came she was going to save herself. After everything she and Xavier have been through will she be able to keep her end of the bargain? Will she be able to go back to her old life? Or has a new woman emerged? A woman who is no longer afraid of anything—even falling in love with the man who saved her.

Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released on September 6th called, The One He Saved. As soon as I read the book description I knew this was going to be a book I would enjoy, and now that I've read it I can say that I was hooked from the beginning and it didn't disappoint! This was a captivating story that was filled with suspense, romance, action, revenge, multiple plot twists, and a happy ending. This is a story that will stick with me, I really enjoyed this one!! 💜📚
"Life can sometimes be filled with some painful chapters. But, what I’ve learned is you can’t skip those chapters, that’s not how it works. You have to go through some pretty pain-filled pages, meet some people that you wish you’d never met, and sometimes do things you’d never imagined yourself doing. We rise from what was meant to destroy us, what was meant to dismantle us. We rise and we bloom." (just like a lotus flower.) -Lina 🪷
Thank you to the author and to the publisher for this ARC of The One He Saved, in exchange for an honest review.
Lina and Xavier have my heart. Lina is a girl who gets kidnapped and sold. Xavier is the man who saved her. This book had plenty of action and so many great twists and turns. This was my first read by Taylor MarQuette, and I really enjoyed it.
I was able to receive a ARC copy of this and can I say that I was blown away! This book had me reeling very early on and even after finishing I feel like I want more!
I love this forbidden, intriguing love story as two souls are fated together while learning to grow as one. I had so many emotions when reading this, but all in all it was a tear jerker for sure. While I may not have given it a 5 star, it is a serious 4.7! I am looking forward to more from this author to continue this story!
This story was intriguing right from the beginning. I was lost in the slowing growth of safeness, sadness, and love between Lina and Xavier. I thought there was plenty of action to keep me wanting to read and all the connections between the characters were great. This was a fast, easy read. I was able to guess the complete ending on who was involved in the schemes. People do anything for money. I thought this was well written and I was longing for more and for the story to never end. This was my first book by Taylor Marquette, and I loved it, and I recommend reading this book.
I received this as an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book is soo good. The FMC & MMC are very enjoyable. I wasn't able to predict some of the plot which is ALWAYS a great thing. If you love books that keep you guessing and are easily enjoyable read this one is for you!
This book is everything I wanted! I could NOT put this book down and finished it in a day. I absolutely love Lina and Xavier and found myself not wanting the story to end! There is revenge, romance and an unexpected twist!
I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down! I predicted a few things yet still had some surprises which I appreciate. The was a forbidden love story that ended on a happy note and I am dying to read more.
I devoured this book in a day! Lina is strong & a total badass. It gives “Taken” vibes and I’m here for it. The plot it captivating and you truly cannot put it down until you finish. Xavier is perfection and I wouldn’t be mad getting more of these two!
This was a page-turner from the start, I was hooked. Dark romance and not what I expected in the best way. Great writing and plot with some unexpected twists. Now I’m definitely looking for more from Taylor!
This book plunges you right into the action, making it an ideal quick read for anyone looking to be immediately hooked. I loved how both main characters were able to heal and grow together throughout the story. The unexpected twists genuinely surprised me and added layers of emotion that made my heart ache. I’m grateful for the chance to be an ARC reader for this book. Highly recommend it!
This book was incredible!! I loved Xavier and Lina. I was able to read this early and it didn't disappoint. Taylor did a really good job balancing the romance part and the revenge part.
This one checks all the boxes. A gripping romantic suspense that has all the elements you need for a classic romance while also grappling through a highly uncomfortable situation. Touchy subject matter warning for those triggered by abduction and assault; however, it is written with enough distance that it protects the reader, where we get through the experiences unscathed. Quick and memorable. Great conversation maker for any book club.
DNF’d at 42%. i really couldn’t connect with the characters at all. i felt like the story was too fast passed and gave us no time to make a connection with the FMC and MMC. i dunno, maybe it’s just me. but this book wasn’t for me.
I want to preface this review by stating that I was given an ARC copy by the author and these are my own personal feelings and thoughts on this book.
I absolutely loved the blurb / brief description about this book and felt it was something I would be interested in. This book does touch on subjects that are hard to discuss for many people and I liked that the author was courageous enough to bring those topics to light. The two main characters, Lina and Xavier, had great chemistry (despite the romance coming on a bit too fast in my opinion) and I enjoyed reading about their relationship and interactions. There are many emotions packed into this book and it’s clear that the author had a good idea of how she wanted things to play out. There was some suspense built up in parts of the book, and there were also a few twists. Some of it was a bit predictable but it didn’t take away from the story.
Now there are some very important reasons that I am giving this book a 2.5 or 3 star review, I want to go with 2.5 stars but I’m rounding up because I can tell the author had great ideas — it just wasn’t executed well. Firstly, there are countless grammatical errors. I was trying to document all of the errors I was seeing as I read and I was stopping on almost every single page. This really took away from my experience as a reader. Next, there were instances where the use of “your” and “you’re” were mixed up and that is something that shouldn’t have slipped past the author or editor. I also noticed there were either misspellings of words, words completely missing from sentences, sentences that made absolutely no sense at all, and so on. There are several instances where the characters are doing things or an item is being described and something contradicts what is happening within the next few sentences. For example, one of the characters says they are opening a bottle of wine and then four sentences later mentions how they are handing the glass of champagne to the other character, and then it switches back to wine again. There is another instance where a character is going to the gym on the third floor and makes a comment about how they had no idea there was a basement. Another massive flaw I noticed was that there is a 4-6 month duration of the book and for that entire time the season is summer. That is obviously impossible (unless it is a fantasy genre book) and savvy readers will pick up on things like that. There was also some very strange sentence structure happening and confusing dialogue. There would either be too much space between dialogue when one character was speaking or no space at all when multiple characters were speaking, making it hard to discern which character was actually talking. Also, this author uses the same phrases and words so often that it becomes extremely irritating. The amount of times that someone’s eyes “bounced” to another person was outrageous and there are many other ways to explain that a character is looking at someone. Lastly, there was also an issue of the author switching between past and present tense. Sometimes this happened within the same sentence. I did try to give the author the benefit of the doubt and assumed maybe the copy I received was not the fully edited version of the book. However, on release day I downloaded the published copy and reviewed and compared it — all of the errors were present in the “final” copy that was released. So many of these errors could have been avoided had there been a thorough editing process.
As I mentioned above, I really like the idea the author had for this book and I did enjoy the story. I also admire this author for being independently published and I like that she is not afraid to put herself and her work out there. However, for many readers I do think it will be very distracting to always be stopping and noticing the multitude of errors. If the author had spent some more time on this book and really tried to work on sentence structure and descriptive writing, it could have been a four or five star read.
Thank you, Taylor Marquette, for allowing me to read and review this book. I hope to see you grow as an author and I wish you the best!
This book was a solid 5-star read for me! From the first page, I was pulled into the action, and the pace never let up. The author did an excellent job with character development, providing enough context for each character and clearly expressing their emotions and thoughts. Both main characters Lina and Xavier had motivations that felt real and compelling. This allowed me to feel deep sympathy for Lina and Xavier, and I was fully invested in their journey—not just in their romance, but also in their personal geowth. I found myself rooting for them to overcome their individual struggles and find peace together.
I’m primarily a romance reader, and this was my very first thriller romance. The thriller elements in this story were so good, creating tension without losing the heart of the romance.
I also loved the way the lotus flower and its symbolic meaning was woven throughout the story. I felt like it added a beautiful layer of depth. The plot twists caught me by surprise more than once, leading to a few audible gasps! I also found the supporting characters, particularly Farrah and Carl, were also written with care, and felt comfort in knowing that troubled Xavier had these two people to lean on.
Overall, this is one of my top reads this year and it certainly opened me up to a new genre for me to explore. This book is perfect for anyone who enjoys a heart-pounding romance with well-developed characters and suspense that keeps you turning the pages! I would love to see what comes next for Lina and Xavier in a potential continuation.
Thank you to the author @Taylor.Marquette for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.
The One He Saved completely pulled me in. From the start, Lina’s story had me hooked. What starts out as a terrifying situation quickly unfolds into something deeper and more emotional than I anticipated. There’s action, tension, heartbreak, healing and romance that builds in a way that actually feels earned.
Lina is the kind of heroine you root for. Strong, determined, and trying her best to hold onto herself through impossible circumstances. Xavier is intense and mysterious, but also layered in a way that makes you understand his motives, even when his actions are a little hard to swallow at first. Their dynamic had such tension, and the way it evolved felt natural, even when the stakes were sky high.
What really brought the whole experience together was the narration by Shannon Smith. She was so good. Her voice brought so much emotion and nuance to both Lina and Xavier’s characters. She captured Lina’s vulnerability and inner strength perfectly, and the way she voiced Xavier gave him that brooding but protective edge. Honestly, she made every scene feel like I was right there, living it all with them.
This story is part survival, part revenge, part slow-burn romance and I loved that it didn’t shy away from the hard parts. If you’re into romantic suspense with heart, grit, and a narrator who elevates every chapter, this one’s 100% worth a listen. Definitely recommend!!!
You will love the Lotus Flower even more after this 🩷
The One He Saved... The title says it all. But what it doesn't tell you is that you’ll discover a new power couple to root for and experience a whirlwind of emotions, from joy to sorrow to a thirst for vengeance.
Taylor takes us on a wild ride, touching on sensitive topics with the utmost care and respect. Survivors of abuse will likely appreciate the thoughtful way these issues are handled.
We follow Lina, who gets kidnapped after a night out and ends up being sold to the highest bidder because she is "pure." Insert plot twists here.
Enter Xavier, her "buyer." At first, you might think, "Ugh, how could you, you selfish billionaire?" But as the story unfolds, you'll be glad he did what he did!
I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say Xavier brings out mixed emotions. At heart, though, he's a total golden retriever... pun intended. 🤭
Lina and Xavier embark on a rollercoaster journey to uncover the truth, face lies, and build what seems to be an unbreakable bond— or do they?
The ending was pure perfection, keeping me on the edge of my seat right until the final page.
I absolutely loved everything about this book and Taylor’s writing.
The One He Saved has been out since 2024, and hasn't received the hype it deserves!!! This book was truly amazing!!! I finished this book in one sitting, because I simply couldn't set it down!!! No one warned me I needed a box of tissues on numerous occasions throughout the book!! The emotions I went through while reading this book.......WOW!!! Lina went through so much physically and emotionally in her life, even more so when she is kidnapped and sold. But, Xavier, the man who bought her isn't the bad guy she thinks he is. Infact, Xavier is a complete sweetheart and downright sexy!! But Lina made herself a promise that she was going to save herself no matter what. But what happens when there are feelings involved??? I guess you need to read the book and find out.....oh...and don't forget the tissues!!!!
There’s a lot to unpack in this story, honestly. It was very interesting for starters. The plot line was engaging, it read like an action movie. The first scene really pulls you in. BUT it may have been too fast paced. While I do appreciate getting straight to it, Some parts suffered because of this. I never felt bad for Lina. Plus I could not escape the thoughts that Xavier cannot be trusted. I found the romance very rushed. On one hand, Xavier saved her BUT he also paid a hefty price for her. Lina was not once wary of who he was or made him prove his intent. He just explained it once, she went with it, they faught the bad guys and then fell in love. Xavier should have gotten major push imo. Instead he won Lina over with his jacuzzi. Overall it was a solid read! Definitely will read more from this author. Thank you for the ARC.

This is one of those books that will forever hold a piece of my heart.
Lina and her best friends hit the clubs for a night out, but she wakes up on a cold concrete floor and finds she has been kidnapped by human traffickers. After being deemed “pure” she is bought for 12 million dollars by a man named, Xavier. With a twist of events, Lina ends up falling for the very man who purchased her.
This book is filled with twists and turns. The romance is beautiful and believable. The mmc, Xavier, is definitely a morally grey man… in the best way. If you love the movie “Taken”… but also love a little romance, you will love this book!
I loved the mc’s (and of course Carl & Farrah!). I hope there is a sequel coming in the future.. or maybe a side character story! I definitely want more!!
Thank you Taylor Marquette for providing me with the arc! I am so thankful for the opportunity to read another one of your fabulous books!
This is my second book from this author and it is definitely different than the first one but still so good. I couldn’t put it down. It was a very emotional read for me. It has some sad parts in it. I liked the interaction with the two main characters. I love suspense and romance together.
I love this quote. "Then just like a lotus flower, we rise from the mud. We rise from what was meant to destroy us, was meant to dismantle us. We rise and we bloom,"
All I can say is I didn't see the twist coming in this book. And I really loved it.
I got to read this early thanks to Taylor and I am so thankful!
So two points: and yes there will be spoiling so please read ahead cautiously!
1: this book was amazing and I really hope we get a second one! It was not a super fast fall but wasn’t a true slow burn either. It was captivating and had the best turns
2: I did not care for the end. I mean I did but I also didn’t. like how he was just like we ain’t helping anyone else…. Like why not? I just want them to save people 😅
I really hope she makes a second book but If not thank you for another amazing read🖤

Thank you so much Taylor Marquette for The Ones He Saved! Wow, wow, wow! I enjoyed this book so much! It had me hooked from page one, and no, I am not saying that to get you all to just read it. It is the truth!!! In this book, we follow the main character, Lina Harrington. What was supposed to be a fun and harmless night out on the town with some friends, it had turned out to be one of the worst nights of her life. Lina has become a missing person. After being kept and humiliated in an old warehouse for weeks, she has finally been sold to the highest bidder—Xavier Almasi. Lina soon discovers the highest bidder isn’t who she thinks he is. He’s got one mission and one mission only—to kill every person responsible for her abduction. As time passes, they become quite close as they skate through dangerous territory, risking it all so Lina can return home. Out of nowhere, their plans are halted as familiar faces emerge, putting a damper on everything that they have worked so hard to accomplish. Lina made a promise to herself that fateful day she was taken, that no matter what—if the time came, she was going to save herself. She finds out that some people close to her were behind her kidnapping. Lina is no longer afraid of anything and falls in love with the handsome man who saved her. I loved how the book ended! I would recommend if you like dual pov's, romantic suspense, action romance, and adventure romance! Cannot WAIT for her next book! 😍😍😍
First I’d like to say I received this book from the author for an arc. And let me tell you the Mfc Lina went out to a club for night of fun to find her self on a concrete floor tied up and starved. This book has some triggers that some might find it hard to read, but this is happening around the world everyday. Xavier comes and saves her and their love story is absolutely incredible. I loved every minute of this book. The author is self published so there are a lot of errors but I’m sure if you see past them you will fall in love with this book just like I did. This book will forever live rent free in my mind.
The book blurb and first chapter really drew me in, but the rest of the book didn't hold my attention the same way. I wish the story dug deeper—things felt surface level for the most part.
The dialogue was confusing at times with multiple people talking within the same paragraph, making it hard to determine who was actually speaking. The author often repeated phrases/words that made reading less enjoyable at times.
Marquette had some really nice ideas for this novel, I just wish the execution had been better.
This book was fabulous! If I wasn’t so busy over the past few days I would’ve read it in one sitting; but I picked it up and read it every chance I got. I was sucked in right from the beginning. I’m a thriller & romance girly, so when the 2 genres are combined into one book & pulled off perfectly👌🏻I love it. Such a good storyline with twists I didn’t anticipate. Absolutely loved Lina & Xavier’s story. I didn’t want the book to end 😫
This book was EVERYTHING! I felt happy I felt sad I felt omg I don’t know how to breathe ! If you have not read this book you need to stop what you’re doing and read this ! I have never been in love with 2 characters as much as I have been with Xavier and Lina. I love Xavier and I love Lina I can’t wait to see your next chapter in life (hopefully there’s one😊) just please with everything in you stop what you’re doing and read this book!!!! Taylor did such a fantastic job keeping her reads hooked with everything.

This book is everything I wanted and I could NOT put it down and read it in less than 24 hours! This psychological romantic thriller is full of romance, revenge and unexpected twists! From the beginning of reading it I was wanting more and to see what happened next! I am hoping Taylor Marquette will do a sequel! Thank you for allowing me to ARC read it Taylor!
Release day is TOMORROW SEPT 6th and it is on KU! Let me know if y’all read it 🫶🏼
This book was incredible. Just wow. Human trafficking is so big today. It’s scary. I love the way the author wrote about Lina and Xavier’s story. Lina was taken during a night out with her friends. You can never be to careful. Xavier saved her. I loved the way their love unfolded. So sweet and heartwarming. There are a lot of betrayal, and unexpected twist and turns. Definitely not what I was expecting. This book just reeled me in from the first page. It was definitely a page turner. Couldn’t put it down. Just loved it. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
I need more lol. Please make this a series. I need a Carl book and even a Nora book. I need to read about Lina and Xavier having babies and wedding even if it is second hand. I wish this book had a epilogue of a few years down the road to that. But I absolutely loved this book. Definitely makes me want to run out and get a lotus flower tattoo 🤣🤣 Some of the twist in this book I didn't see coming. But I loved every minute of this book.
