Evie Rose writes gleefully improbable bitesized instalove romances, with heroes who are all-in obsessed for their heroines.
She loves possessive alpha heroes, age gap, tons of spice, forced proximity, pining, and swoony romantic bits. She's the darker alter-ego of bestselling author Eve Pendle.
This was a fun read with two good main characters. Mafia boss and his virginal assistant. Both have the hots for each other. He finds a list of her acquirements for a husband, and father for the children she wants. He then offers to give her the baby she wants and marriage. Nice novella read.
Another good read by Evie Rose! This was fun to read just like the others. You can’t help but fall in love with Sophia and her quirky inner monologues. She’s been working for Dexter for 6 mo and knows all about the business, to include organizing his hit lists and cleaning his bloody clothes. And yet, she’s hopelessly in love with her boss but feels she needs to move on as “he’ll never feel that way about her”. So she makes a list for an ideal husband in order to move on. But in a funny twist of fate, the list ends up in Dex’ hands and sees himself in every line Sophia’s written. So he makes her an offer, one that she just can’t refuse. The chemistry was really good between these two and loved the humor throughout with the dual POV.

Safe! Celibate hero, no details on past, heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero! No otros, no cheating or sharing or abuse. Hea with epilogue years out
Groom Gamble is part of the Marrying the Boss series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, age-gap, virgin gets her mafia boss romance. Sophia is a 23 year old sweet and shy virgin. Dex is a 39 year old hunky, ruthless, mafia kingpin, and her boss. Sophia has been in love with Dex since she started working for him. In desperation, she makes a list of the qualities of her dream man, who describes Dex, to be used for a matchmaker to find her a husband. She really wants to have a big family and feels her clock is ticking. But Dex gets the list in error and tells her that he will marry her and give her babies. She is shocked but excited. He tells her it will help him fit in with the other mafia leaders, but really, he is in love with her, too. OMG, these two... I just wanted to slap them both to communicate. But they were so cute together. Dex is pretty much a pleasure Dom with a breeding kink, and Sophia was completely on board. The way he took care of her was so hot. Their chemistry was INSANE and we got a great HEA once they both realized they wanted the same things. I loved it! I can always count on Evie to deliver a scorching hot mafia romance, and this did not disappoint!!.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Sophia and Dex. The author does a great job developing the story and painting her scenes perfectly. She takes you into their lives with romance and chemistry and kept me turning the pages with the humor and drama. She tells the story in the dual POV, moves it quickly and smoothly and delivers an enjoyable age gap/mafia romance.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
Liked it just fine, but the book was simply too short to really get invested in the story. I would've liked more world and character building instead of just all the sex they were having. I mean, I'm fine with lots of spice, but it shouldn't be 80% of the book. This was okay to read just this once, but I probably won't ever re-read it.
Dex has loved Sophia since she became his assistant. Sophia has loved Dex too. But she doesn’t think he sees her like that. Fast steamy read with a morally gray hero that captures your imagination and keeps you turning the pages. I loved it
Sophia and Dex’s office romance was a spicy fun listen. Sophia is looking to have a baby and once her boss Dex finds out he offers to be that person for her. The story is a quick novella and I enjoyed listening to this story. Shane East and Evelyn Rose narrated this book in duet and did a great job with their performances. Thank you Evie for an audio copy!!
I adored Dex and Sophia's story! From how they meet and get together to where they end up, never a full moment. Their confessions...gah.. so romantic hot.
Evelyn Rose was the perfect Sophia. She did so well portraying Sophia's sweet innocence. She is definitely one of my favorites! Shane East gruff mafia voice is one of my favorite things ever. Perfect for Dex.
s h e l v e s : age gap alpha angsty boss cameos (London Maths Syndicate lol) cinderella instalove mafia marriage of convenience men in suits moves her in mutual pining office ott possessive protective rich hero sits her in his lap virgin wife her up
e n d e a r m e n t s : ♥︎ darling ♥︎ little one

I don't mind the age gap so much but I hate repetition in books and I am almost certain she's used the stupid nick "little one" before in her other age gape books. I am also friggen tired of the whole virgins wearing plain old white cotton undies and bras and being the size of a prepubescent teenage girl. Seriously, age gap is fine but there are other heights and weights out there, other body types than barely an B cup at best... it's just disheartening when it's always the same friggen shit. At least the fmc isn't blonde to boot because if she was I would've just tossed this book into the shredder (or rather just deleted it).
I don't know, I guess I'm just sick of these one trick pony authors that literally just write the same shit all the time. How do they make money? I mean surely you've got to bring something new to the table once in a while to keep people entertained.
As far as the story itself goes, it was.. meh at best. I wish I had another word to describe it but it was just, I don't know, there. I skimmed over a lot of the sex because, frankly the whole virgin claiming BS is over used and over rated. I mean, technically so is the mafia genre but this author doesn't really delve too deep into it, it's more of a subplot at best - a very boring one when she keeps referring to it as a math club or whatever. Also it's so blatantly obviously that these big strong mafia bosses like children for women. Tiny, dainty little things with personalities to match. It's boring.
Worst thing about this book? Her first time with him is literally at work while he's taking a phone call but ohhh he loves her so it's ok that his thoughts don't match his actions. Especially considering his office; their place of work is in his mansion where he has his own fucken apartment and he could have taken the time to make it special for her, but nope, let's go with sex in his office while on a phone call. So. Fucken. Stupid. And very unrealistic since he literally fucks her for almost a week straight but never reaches orgasm himself because he wants to wait until she's fertile. It's definitely a work of fiction because the amount of blue balls he would have would have him coming while he's sleeping.

It’s impossible not to fall for Sophia, with her hilarious internal monologues and sweet, almost naïve charm. For six months, she's worked for the enigmatic Dexter Streathman, fully aware of the dangerous world he operates in. After all she’s helped organize his hit lists and clean the blood off his shirts! Nevertheless, Sophia is hopelessly head-over-heels for her boss—a man she knows she can never have. Determined to move on, she starts planning her future without Dexter, even going so far as to make a list of qualities she wants in her ideal husband. But fate has a funny sense of humor and that list ends up in Dexter’s hands—who, in a perfectly wicked twist, sees himself in every line. So, what does our brooding alpha do? He makes her an offer she can’t refuse (sorry, but who could resist throwing in that line?!). From here, the story kicks into steamy overdrive. With a looming deadline and baby making on his mind, Dex hilariously decides they’ll wait for the ideal time in Sophia’s cycle to let his swimmers take the plunge. For ten excruciatingly long days, their "practice sessions" turn into fiery encounters the send Sophia into the stratosphere but undoubtedly leave Dexter with a serious case of blue balls! The chemistry between these two is absolutely electric. Dexter is all alpha in the bedroom, dominating with a sensual intensity that builds the tension so high, you find yourself holding your breath, waiting for everything to ignite. Had I been reading a paperback, I swear the pages would have fluttered from the sheer sigh of relief when the heat finally explodes. I adored every single thing about this book. Dex and Sophia are a perfect storm of passion, humor, and undeniable chemistry. They’re each other’s match in every sense of the word, and watching them dance around each other was pure, unadulterated fun. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Picture this: a grumpy, possessive mafia boss and his sweet, innocent assistant tangled up in a whirlwind of desire and super hot chemistry.
Dexter’s alpha demeanor combined with Sophia’s innocence leads to some pretty good smexy times, especially when he has her right where he wants her— read-> on his desk, sooooo hot!
I gotta mention the story's age gap and the OTT elements, which add extra flavor to the mix. While their romance unfolds quickly, it’s cleverly told from six months in the future, so it doesn’t feel too rushed. You get a real sense of their journey together.
Why 4 stars then? I must admit that the mafia aspect didn’t quite hit the mark for me—I expected something a bit more gritty and real than fairytale villains. Honestly, I think it could have worked just as well if Dexter were shrouded in shady billionaire drama instead of mafia tropes.
That said, the connection between Dex and Sophia is pure magic! The pinning and chemistry are off the charts, giving all the warm fuzzies. This sweet and steamy novella fits perfectly within the "Marrying the Boss" series, and I love how Evie Rose seamlessly weaves her characters into one fun universe. It’s like catching up with old friends every time I dive into one of her books.
If you’re into instalove stories with a grumpy alpha male who has a huge soft spot for his girl and enjoy the breeding kink, then buckle up, because "Groom Gamble" is just what you need.
It is no secret that she works for a mafia boss. She's even seen moments that most never even hear about. But she knows she can never have him. That 'dark and dangerous' has her desperate to be his, aware as only a young woman can be that he has no interest in her.
Giving up hope, she makes a list of what she considers her perfect husband to hand to a matchmaker. The entire list is based solely on Dex. She wants children and time is getting shorter. Unfortunately, she hands Dex the list by mistake when she gives him the report he is asking for.
Dex goes through the report, finding an additional report behind it... Then he smiles wickedly. Within moments, he is pressing her into marriage, insisting that he gives her the baby she wants.
Chaos follows as he arranges the wedding, moving her things into his house while she is working, ordering more clothes... Dex has wanted her savagely, and now he has the perfect way to get what he wants.
Like many stories, Dex doesn't know she's crazy about him and schemes to keep her. Sophie doesn't know he's crazy about her and thinks this is temporary until he can get her pregnant. He keeps wondering why she sometimes seems sad. She wonders why sometimes he seems hesitant...
Add in a level if danger, and the chaos gets more challenging... Nice story! I enjoyed every page.
Sophia needs a groom and she’s got a system of sorts to make it happen. She’s not a bad catch—a six out of 10 if she’s honest, with a solid sense of humor, and big bonus, an intact v-card. It’s really too bad that the entire list she’s made of all the qualities she wants in a husband fit the criteria for her sexy as sin boss. He’s attractive, sexy, and his quiet praise of “good girl” makes her go quietly crazy with longing. Before she just goes crazy in totality, she decides to enlist a matchmaker and present het very comprehensive list.
Sophia Berry is much too young for Dex. And he knows it. But he can’t deny how attracted he is to her. She’s everything he would want and everything he should want, especially as a morally gray member of the mafia syndicate in England. However, when he accidentally stumbles across her stringent list of requirements for a husband that perfectly match him, he decides to rectify matters and get to the bottom of the issue. The tension skyrockets as she realizes he knows the truth, and he knows she wants a husband who could be him, or if he thinks about it analytically, is him.
The sexual tension is high, the humorous elements are sprinkled throughout and the probability of a good match between Sophia and Dex is quite high as the pages unfold. I laughed at moments and shook my head at others. Dex and Sophia are a delicious match and absolutely belong together—if they would just realize it! Mafia lovers will appreciate the mafia elements, especially if a break from dark mafia romance is a plus. This one isn’t too dark and isn’t too serious, but it has all the elements for an entertaining read. The Groom Gamble is a really good bet for a fun read.

💍 Mafia Romance 🩷 Boss x Assistant 💍 Age Gap (23 / 39) 🩷 Marriage of Convenience 💍 Billionaire 🩷 Fast Burn 💍 Insta-Lust 🩷 Breeding 💍 Morally Gray MMC 🩷 V!rgin FMC 💍 Duet Narration
Sophia is Dex’s assistant who has been secretly crushing on her boss. She’s finally made the decision to hire a matchmaker in an effort to get over her boss. Dex is a mafia boss who has been infatuated with his assistant, but has kept his distance because she is in the younger side. When Dex finds out Sophia’s plans to marry, he offers up himself for the job.
I adore Evie Rose stories and these are my comfort listens. They’re perfectly spicy, sweet, and funny. Dex may be a scary mafia boss, but he’s so gone for Sophie. The fast burn in this story is so good!
Shane Eastwood and Evelyn Rose narrating can do no wrong. They’re absolutely perfect together and have the perfect chemistry.
TLDR: Spicy, sweet, funny mafia boss marries his assistant.
Groom Gamble by Evie Rose is part of Marrying the Boss Series and connected to her ongoing dëlïcïọuslƴ §ëxƴ, ägë-gäp, obsessed & possessive males, witty banter romances set in her London Mafia Bosses World. Sophia is the executive assistant to Dex (Dexter), Mafia Kingpin of the Streatham Faction. She knows Dex is Mafia and helps him stay organized for mafia business. (Other Mafia Couples pop up in this book and it was great to see them contribute to the ongoing conversation about the London Maths Club...lol...) Sophia is writing a list on attributes she wants in a husband for the match-making service she is applying to. Her list ends up with paperwork given to Dex. Dex reads the list & makes a proposal to Sophia... 😏
I am 100% in agreement with Sophia's List! 🥵🔥💋 (You will have to read Groom Gable to find out what is on the List...)
I do love Dex's thoughts about Sophia... 🥰
"...I love her, and she’s the only one who has ever caused this spiralling in my chest. I’ve never needed a woman so much that I can’t wait long enough to get to a bed, and we’re in my goddamned office on a weekday afternoon. And there is no one as beautiful as Sophia..."
💗 Evie Rose Books are always a treat I give myself. I definitely enjoy everything Evie writes!
4.5 stars. Sophia, the female lead, is certain that her boss, Dex, the male lead, wouldn’t be interested in someone like her. But she definitely wants children, so she starts building a list of attributes to approach a matchmaker.
Dex knows he’s not a good match for his assistant, though he is VERY attracted to her. Then he finds her husband attribute list and realises that he meets all her criteria. Maybe he can convince her he’s exactly what she needs.
Sophia isn’t sure marrying her crush when he doesn’t love her is a good idea but he does have good reasoning…
This novella is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, contemporary, age gap, mafia adjacent romance. I enjoyed Sophia’s focus on her goals balanced with her care for Dex and his interests. I enjoyed Dex’s enjoyment of Sophia, and his ruthlessness regarding keeping her in his life. I enjoyed their steamy intimate scenes, and the great enjoyment they found in conjugal relations. I enjoyed the fidelity and relationship focus between them.

This author has a way with mafia romance. Like a really really HOT way! I think I’ve read all of the London Mafia Syndicate romances so far and I’ve loved every. Last. One of ‘em!!
Like the mafia leaders before him, Dex was absolutely OBSESSED with Sophia, his innocent assistant, and wanted her desperately. Enough to leave her be but, when he finds her “perfect man” list and realizes that she’s attracted to older men, there’s no way he’s letting her go. Even if he has to pretend it’s a marriage of convenience to get her to agree.
Sophia was in love with her boss and had been since she started working for him. Lately though, it’d gotten even worse and she had decided to enlist the help of a matchmaker. Not surprisingly, her perfect man’s description fits her boss to a T and when he finds her list, there’s no way he’s letting another man have what belongs to HIM.
This was another awesome read from the London Mafia Syndicate!! Hopefully Ms. Rose can keep ‘em coming ‘cause I for one am not ready to let ‘em go. 5++ Stars!.

"Groom Gamble" is the spicy mafia romcom you didn’t know you needed! It features all the classic tropes—grumpy boss, sweet and innocent assistant, and the kind of possessiveness that will leave you breathless. Dexter Streatham, the smoldering kingpin, is not just here to steal your heart, he’s staking his claim—and you’ll love every second of it.
The chemistry between the characters is off the charts, with tension that builds and builds until it bursts in steamy, forbidden moments that are deliciously irresistible. Dexter’s alpha energy mixed with the heroine’s wide-eyed innocence creates a dynamic that’s as captivating as it is seductive. The power play? It’s everything, especially when things heat up in the office... right on the desk, of course!
If you’re into fast-paced romance with instant love, a mafia boss who’s secretly soft for his girl, and enough steam to fog up your reading glasses, "Groom Gamble" will absolutely satisfy. Equal parts sweet and sizzling, this book is a fun, sexy, and addictive ride from start to finish.
Groom Gamble is a standalone contemporary romance by Evie Rose, although it has connections with Rose's other books in the world of London mafia bosses.
This is a super steamy book, that includes a boss/assistant romance, marriage of convenience to the boss, where the male MC's presence in the London mafia bosses is only an incidental side story. There is also a lot of talk of children and having sex to get pregnant - after all, this is the crux of the story.
The rom com aspect of this book is kind of just the comedy of errors that happens to set up the whole story. On the surface, Sophia and Dex don't appear to have a lot in common. But what they do have is a heck of a lot of chemistry together, just waiting to explode. Sophia and Dex are highly passionate people and once the tinder is sparked, the fire between them really takes off. I really enjoyed them both, even despite Dex's job as a mafia boss, I found myself connecting to him straight away. Sophia is young, vulnerable and very much likeable.

Sophia wants a baby, so she signs up for a matchmaker and makes a list of her ideal perfect husband. Only her boss finds the list, and he notices that he checks all the boxes on her list and more and can't wait to make her his wife so he can put a baby in her.
Evie Rose has done it again. Just when I think her latest novel was the best she has written, she writes another that is even better. I loved Marrying the Boss! It is the perfect mix of humor, spice, and drama, mixed with the horror of the mafia. I found the writing to be captivating, the characters believable, and I liked the twists and turns in the plot.
Groom Gamble centers around Sophia Berry and Dex Streatham, two lonely people, secretly in love with each other. Sophia is the assistant to Dex, who runs a mafia empire. Sophia decides to use a matchmaker to help her get over Dex. Sophia writes a list of what she wants from a potential husband, and the list actually describes Dex. Of course, Dex accidentally finds the list and proposes marriage to her. The chemistry between the MCs is burning hot and the love they have for each other is simply beautiful. Rose does an excellent job describing the character’s emotions. I definitely recommend this book.

Sophia (h23) works as an assistant for Dex (H39), a powerful mafia boss in London, whom she secretly crushes on despite his morally grey actions. Her musings on the characteristics of what she wants in a man describe Dex almost to a T, and when he accidentally finds the list, he's determined to be the only man for Sophia, even if he has to lie about his intentions. Dex convinces Sophia that he can give her the family she yearns for, and she can help him gain influence in the London Maths Society, a group of mafia leaders who are allied with one another. Sophia and Dex's supposed marriage of convenience is steamy from the get-go, and the lines quickly blur in their fake relationship as Dex’s fierce protectiveness grows into a consuming obsession, and Sophia finds herself falling for him. Love seeing another London boss find love and getting to see characters from other related books. Ultra-hot and steamy age gap, marriage of convenience, mafia romance, exploring love, danger, and breaking down barriers.
Groom Gamble is the ultimate spicy, mafia romcom with all the delicious tropes we love—grumpy boss, innocent assistant, and a whole lot of possessiveness! Dexter Streatham is the obsessed, possessive kingpin who’s not just going to make you swoon—he’s going to make sure you know you're his. And let’s not forget the breeding kink! Yep, this book goes there, and it’s steamy AF.
The boss/assistant dynamic was everything I wanted—full of tension, teasing, and that “should we really be doing this?” vibe (spoiler: they totally should!). Dexter's alpha male, possessive attitude and the heroine’s innocence made for some sizzling scenes, especially when he’s got her right where he wants her—on his desk, of course.
If you’re into insta-love, a grumpy mafia boss with a soft spot for his girl, and some seriously hot baby-making plans, Groom Gamble will definitely hit the spot. Sweet, spicy, and utterly addictive!.

Groom Gamble is quite an entertaining spicy age gap billionaire romance story. Groom Gamble is charming, suspenseful, and quite the page-turner of a book. This book had me turning the pages as fast as my eyes could read, and I fell in love with the amazing story. Groom Gamble is the entertaining story of Dex and Sophia, whom I found to be quite amazing characters. I fell in love with both Dex and Sophia, I thought these two were well-developed and perfectly executed throughout this amazing book.
