What a reading journey it was!
Mad Dreams by Rohit Ramachandran was one of the best black comedy I read ever! You guys remember seeing the Hangover movie for the first time? Well my reaction was like what did I just watch? Likewise in each page I felt that what am I reading. Well for starters, it’s not our typical sanctimonious book. Well our life is not that sanctimonious either if we think about it, so Mad Dreams is that unfiltered reflection of the relatable dark twists and turns where hope shatters making you a laughing stock or scapegoat in the rat race of a life we have!

This story is told by Manu Manohar. He talks about his recurring weird dream. And it occurs occasionally and his mind voice is a character in this novel, I would say!

Manu is from a middle class family and he has a dream to become an Ad film maker. But you know how middle class parents mind set is. Chasing dreams is considered madness and working on a regular salaried job considered as something they proud of. Can’t blame them, that’s how life molds them.

Now when against all odds when you dream what comes in your way? Of course the college, here Manu’s college offers opportunity but at what scale is each student finds out by the end of their graduation.

Through Manu Rohit brilliantly portrayed how most professional colleges scam students in the name of Campus Placement. Along with that this degree force us to wrap a chain of education loan, and this pays dearly when we thrown out of colleges.

And comes the corporate circus. We have to dance and if we liked it or not, how we all fall into the office politics. How the possibility of being a good workplace tarnished by these inside politics and drama.

Rohit’s observation of person climbing each step of the ladder is so deep and he never shows mercy on these topics.

You might see some name calling, wordings and incidents that might not digest to you. Well life not always gives you lemons, some times they peel the skin and squeez those liquid right into your eyes. This novel in that way is one of those kinds. You need to step into the shoes pf Manu, when reading, you are Manu, and you are not going through things that makes sense, it’s all about survival. Manu talks what comes to his mind, well even mind voice is out there without any filter.

Not everyone have experienced the darkest thing like Manu, but at somepoint we can all relate to him. Sometimes we’re Manu.

There was only a few characters, and one of those character is Manu’s friend and that friendship portrayed so well in this novel.

So if you’re ready to let your prejudiced guards down and ready accept the stinky world as it is, not fooling yourself thinking you live in a bright world, this os one hell of a novel that you shouldn’t miss.

The way Rohit handles the humor is so fresh, it makes you laugh and same way it inspire you to chase your mad dreams. It helps you break that middle class mentality and push you to chase those dreams with all the strength you got.

Rohit’s language has that smooth flow so that you don’t even notice how fast you turn the pages. Overall it’s a guaranteed entertainer. You can go for it and you won’t regret it, and you might thank me later for suggesting this novel to you.

Happy Reading, Let your mad dreams come true!
